    Summary

The Sight was something Philza had only seen in passing. He never knew anybody who had it personally, but he wasn’t a stranger to what happened to those who possessed such abilities. When they were whisked away for “rehabilitation” it was likely they weren’t going to be heard from or seen again. If they came back at all, then they came back wrong. Disjointed and confused and unable to do anything for themselves.

So when Wilbur spoke to the air and said pointedly, “I miss you, Mama,” Philza felt doused in that cold, icy water that he had spent so long trying to swim out of. He could feel all the color drain from his face. Could feel the breath hitch in his throat as his child’s arms reached for someone that he couldn’t see.

Philza had just lost the love of his life.

He couldn’t lose his son, too.

Or, In a world where having the Sight gets you a one-way ticket to the nearest Federation Rehabilitation Center, Wilbur Soot cannot afford to make any mistakes.

But he makes a lot of mistakes.
