Before she left for Kanto, Lillie was fairly certain that she and Sun developed a very special connection. Definitely, towards the end of his journey, it started to feel more and more like they were not just friends. After all, with everything that they had gone through together, and everything that they were continuing to experience, spending pretty much every waking moment together, it feels like it’s only natural for romance to blossom.
There are a few times that he holds her hand, and her heart always flutters in her chest, but before she leaves for Kanto, the only thing she actually gets the nerve to do is give him a kiss on the cheek. Softly, she asks for a date when she comes back, but Sun agrees, and so, Lillie leaves fairly confident that she will return to Sun waiting for her, so that they can finally pick up on the relationship they never quite managed to start.
He must have forgotten the time she was set to arrive, though, because he isn’t at home. His mom says that he might be on Akala island, mentioning that he’s been spending a lot of time at Mallow’s lately. Lillie is surprised, since he hadn’t mentioned especially loving that restaurant, but if that’s where he’s eating right now, then that’s where she can find him.
But Lillie doesn’t find him eating in the restaurant. Instead, she gets directed to Mallow’s room, told that that’s where she and Sun can be found, hanging out on their own. By now, Lillie already has a sinking feeling in her stomach, even before she opens the door without knocking. That is where she finds Sun, and finds that he’s eating, alright- eating Mallow out, while she moans for him, their kiss and date clearly forgotten.
