Work Text:
It was far too loud not because people were talking but because the voices in Varians head were telling him he was stupid. He knew this was dumb how could he not.
Of course he was willing to do just about anything to get his dad back. Rapunzle had betrayed him with such a simple no second thought action that resulted in Varian coming up with one of the most risky plans he had ever tried. It of course had worked and now Rapunzel and company were on their way to stop him.
The queen was tied to the floor with a gag in her mouth. Varian thinks if she were to talk mixed with the pounding in his head he wouldn’t be able to think, her back was pressed against the wall watching the young alchemist with so much pity in her gaze. Varian was sick and tired of people pitying him. He wanted their help not their pity yet no one listened to him. They would have to now after all Rapunzel had no choice except to come save her mom.
Varian paced his lab fidgeting with the hem of his apron; he wasn't nervous; he was just preparing himself. If he failed, which he wouldnt fail he would be killed. Varian scowled, turning towards the queen and pulling the gag from her mouth, tossing it to the side.
“Varian.” Ariana’s voice shook. Varian realized then how much he messed up, the queen was terrified of him.
“I’m sorry it had to come to this, your majesty.” Varian turned away from the queen.
“I know you're angry but you could’ve asked for help.” Ariana spoke softly, her voice a whisper. Varian dropped the vial he was holding watching as it shattered against the floor.
Varian turned to face the queen, his furry hidden under a level gaze. “I tried asking for help.” Varian hissed walking towards the queen. He kneeled in front of her scowling. “Your daughter wouldn’t help me, this is my way of helping myself.” Varian stood up walking over to where he dropped the vial and picked up the glass.
“Varian I’m sure Rapunzel had her reasons.” The queen's voice shook.
Varian began to laugh. “I’m her friend.” Varians voice cracked “or I was.” Varian paused, “she will surely hate me after this.”
Varian heard the pounding of footsteps outside his home. He walked over to the window watching as Rapunzel and her father snuck through the back entrance.
Everything was going according to plan. Varian turned to smile at the queen.
“Any moment now, your highness.”
