Summary:

Sometimes, love is watching the seasons change together.

Kama would know.

based off of a writing prompt for 'kama,' 'xiang yu,' 'absence,' and 'leaves changing color' on discord

Work Text:

“Oh. It’s just you.”

Xiang Yu does not even turn his head to look Kama’s way, which annoys her slightly, but not enough to completely kick him out of the simulators in his unmoving vigil.

Surrounded by nothing else but forest, head tilted upwards, she could have mistaken him and this scene for a still-life painting if she were any less observant.

“You are unhappy to see me,” he states with the sort of pinpoint accuracy only he was capable of. “You wanted to find Master instead, and thought them to be here.”

Geh. 

It still surprises her, his insight, gained through all those years of foresight. Even in the midst of all these different Servants, he could still predict alongside the best of them.

“So what,” Kama retorts flatly, walking up to stand beside him. He’s looking up at the leaves, she realizes, and she looks up at them too. Huh. Pretty, maybe, but nothing that special. “Got a problem with me?”

“No.”

The answer is immediate. She doesn’t know what to make of it.

And so they continue to stare.

“It’s not like you to do this,” Kama says, and she’s meddling, and she has no idea why. She was hardly here to serve as anything, much less a god of love in any capacity.

Those who wanted her for love deserved to burn, like she had been for acting on her duties. Those who vied for her assistance in their affairs could only pray that she would not block them from their paths, because that way she had control and would never suffer again.

…Xiang Yu had never asked her for anything, though. He had never said any words of insult towards her, unlike some Goddesses—rather, he would compliment her for her tactical mind more often than not—nor had he ever approached her for any advice, with his own lover. A wife that he was more than knowledgeable of on how to please.

One that was not here in Chaldea still, even after so much time had passed since the third Lostbelt. How petty could that vampire be, seriously.

He, for his part, says nothing for a moment.

 

“My Yu and I loved to watch the leaves over the season together.”

Kama waits.

“Her smile was always so bright when we did so”

…that was all, huh.

Just a simple pleasure, indulged in and appreciated, simply by being together.

What a sickeningly sweet sentiment. So much so that she could gag. 

She had loved the sakura petals, and it had made her happier than when they went out to see them together. Just her, and—

But…not today. She could hold herself back, just for these few moments. She was still a graceful deity, after all.

With a wave of her hand, the leaves around them shift in color. From vibrant greens, to the red hues of the Earth, and to a pale white. A moderate cycle, ever continuing, ever signaling a return to the beginning.

She could afford to use her powers, her illusions, for something this small.

Xiang Yu has no change in his expression. Though, saying that isn’t really all that unique, since he’s so hard to read anyways in that…mechanical getup.

“...it might not be as special, watching them change quicker than the seasons actually are,” Kama mutters under her breath, “but cut me some slack. There’s not really any seasons for us to actually enjoy right now anyways—”

 

“Thank you.”

Direct. As it always is. As it always will be, with him. The conqueror who, in the end, lamented for his love and what would happen to her.

Kama turns to face him.

“You’re welcome,” she replies. “And be patient. With how obsessed she was over you, she’s bound to come sooner or later.”

And she walks away. 

That was enough meddling in feelings for a week or two.

i love making myself sad with my ideas. i love writing interactions that will probably never happen in this game. anyways, i hope you enjoyed this writing prompt!
