Chapter 1: "I've got you" (Obi-Wan Kenobi x Hera Syndulla)

Chapter Text

His muscles were cramping from the long battle, his legs were shaking, and the blue blade was burning out chaotic patterns on the surface of the ashen ground. Obi-Wan raised his head to the red sky and sighed heavily, feeling the strength leaving him with every new movement. The limbless body of a rancor with cauterized from the sword wounds was laying in front of him. He raised his free hand, feeling the pain in his muscles, and wiped the sweat from his beard, bringing the comlink to his face.

"Anakin, I need a ship." he exhaled tiredly into the device. Several seconds passed, but no one responded. "Anakin?"

No answer again and Obi-Wan sighed heavily. Where did this young man go?! They separated an hour ago; he simply couldn’t get into trouble so quickly. Obi-Wan raised the device to his eyes and noticed that it was cracked, probably because of the previous battle. Panic crossed his face and he cleared his throat, looking around. Nothing but lava, dry roots and the cracked earth of Dathomir all around. If Anakin survived, he would come back for him, but how long would he have to wait?

Fatigue and tension were steaming in his lungs, dust and smoke filled his nostrils, and the heat unpleasantly dried the Jedi's skin. He turned off the lightsaber, but he immediately felt something approaching, as anxiety settled in his subconscious. Obi-Wan took a deep breath and looked back at the premonition, the sword ignited again with a whirring sound. Soon after the premonition, movement was heard and figures appeared in the distance. Several rancors approached him at once, apparently having heard the cry of their dying brother. Obi-Wan sighed noisily and raised the blade of his lightsaber, gathering the remnants of his strength for a new, more difficult battle. The rancors sped up, closing in on him, and he ignored the bead of sweat dripping from his forehead and down his nose.

He prepared to run towards them, but something stopped him, a feeling of something familiar and safe. He froze for a moment, trying to understand what it was and raised his eyes to the sky. A massive freighter hovered in the air above one of the rocks. Obi-Wan sighed in amazement, immediately recognizing the outlines of the ship. Ghost.

The comlink was broken, but he immediately understood what he needed to do, as if he heard her voice in his head. With a quick glance at the rancors, Obi-Wan took a leap onto the rock, feeling the resistance of the wind against his skin. Finally landing on the hard, ashen ground, he looked at the Ghost and ran towards it, ignoring the roar of the rancors pursuing him. The steps had already extended for him and he ran onto the ramp, moments later finding himself inside the ship. Obi-Wan leaned against the wall and took a few seconds to normalize his breathing. The work of the ship taking off had an incredible calming effect on him.

Having finally calmed down, he attached his lightsaber to his belt and slowly walked across the bridge towards the cockpit, coughing up ash and dry hot air. Opening the doors, he sighed with relief when he saw a familiar figure, concentrated during the flight. Obi-Wan took a few steps around the room before sitting down in the empty co-pilot's seat and turning to Hera, relaxing at the sight of her knitted brows and lips pursed in concentration. After a couple of seconds, she turned her green eyes to him and smirked, clearly noticing the way he was looking at her.

"General Kenobi." Hera greeted.

"General Syndulla." Obi-Wan smiled lightly and watched as they flew away from the surface of the planet. "Where's Anakin?"

“He returned to the ship and was waiting for you, but he received your message and called me to help you.”

Obi-Wan looked at her again in surprise. She was still smirking.

“You were already nearby when he called you.”

Hera smiled wider, looking at him again. For a moment they looked at each other wordlessly, and Obi-Wan discovered some interesting and tickling feeling inside of him.

“I arrived as soon as I learned about problems on your ship. But I don’t mind saving you more often.”

Obi-Wan smiled and placed a hand on her shoulder, causing her to loosen her grip on the helm. “Thank you, Hera. I appreciate it very much."

"It's nothing. I've got you. I always do." She answered and and flew into outer space.
