Silver Bullets

Summary:

BLU got silver bullets. Demo is off to protect his vampire boyfriend.

Work Text:

It was no secret that Sniper was a vampire. His pronounced fangs and pointed ears were signs on their own, but when he was caught devouring the blood of one of his sniped victims, the news that a monster roamed the halls of RED spread like wildfire.

All the way to BLU.

When it reached the mercenaries over at the BLU base that the enemy sniper was capable of things no mortal man was, they sent countless request letters to The Administrator for one thing, and one thing only.

A supply of silver bullets.

It was chaos on the battlefield, as usual. Sniper had his camp set up high and out of sight. The sound of many heartbeats rang in his ears. On his first mission, the overwhelming scent of the metallic blood and sound of mortal heartbeats was too much for him to handle all at once, but now? He could handle it like a charm.

As the screams and blood flew around, Sniper waited patiently. By now, the BLU Sniper would have set up camp as well. One of the BLU mercs heartbeats quickened suddenly.

“Ah piss.” He’d been spotted.

The gleam of a metal bullet shined quickly.  Sniper was not phased, but he sensed it quickly. It was when the bullet grazed his shoulder and the purity of the metal made his skin burn and turn to ash was his suspicion confirmed. Sniper hissed in pain, gripping his shoulder. Liquid fire spread through his arm as he ducked for cover. He heard the enemy Scout’s voice from down below.

“He’s over here, I saw ‘em duck!”

Sniper swore under his breath, fiddling for his walkie talkie from his belt. Pressing the button, a harsh static screech signaled that the server was on.

“Mates, BLU has silver. I’m not sure I can make it out this time. If I don’t…just know you guys were bloody awesome teammates, and Demo?”

Sniper locked his lips, closing his eyes.

“I bloody love ya more than anyone else in the damn world.”

——

While Demoman shot grenades out and obliterated the enemy Spy, Engineer and Pyro, he heard a harsh screech from his walkie-talkie, and Snipers voice emitted from the speaker. Hearing the message, Demos eye widened, and he swore in Celtic before sprinting as fast as his legs could carry him to where he saw Sniper climbing up.

A BLU Heavy and Scout were on their way, as well, however, and Demoman in his protective rage threw 2 bombs at the duo, blowing them up into random pieces of flesh and blood raining down. Demo ran up the steps, but not before covering the place in stickybombs, just in case anyone else tried to come after.

Demoman kicked down the door to see Sniper ducked down, gripping his arm and panting.

“Mick?! Are ye good?!”

Sniper’s eyes shot open, looking up at Demoman. His chest kept heaving up at down, but his arm luckily hadn’t turned into ash, as the bullet has only grazed his shoulder.

“Tavish! Oh, darlin’…”

The idea of something fishy going on popped into Sniper’s mind.

“How do I know y’ain’t one of those bloody Spies?”

Demo rolled his eye, leaning on the wall and smirking.

“Your favorite band as a kid was Noiseworks. You once accidentally-“

“Aight, aight, I get it, love.”

Sniper cut him off before Demo could list off embarrassing memories the Australian had told him. Demo’s expression softened before walking towards and kneeling at Snipers side.

“Darlin’,are ye okay?”

“Oh, doin’ just dandy. Just learned that the enemy has one of few things that can permanently kill me.”

“Aye, checks out.”

Demo thought for a moment. Sniper could almost hear the gears turning in his head. Then, he patted Snipers back.

“I’ll stay right here, wit ya and make sure nona dose bloody BLU bastards hurt me Sniper!”

Sniper snorted for a moment. “What?! What about the others?”

“Fuck de oders! Mah main priority here is you, love!”

Sniper knew damn well he wasn’t gonna be able to convince Demo to go back down to help the others, so he admitted defeat. And so it was. Demoman was right there to make sure Sniper was safe and sound until the sun set. The beeping under the tower was evident that an enemy was around, and the explosion was confirmation.

In the weeks afterward, the rest of RED became much more protective of Sniper. Lucky for them, the Administrator wasn’t likely going to give BLU any more silver.
