Work Text:

Hanwool quietly hums to himself as he walks to a door, stepping up the concrete stairs. He simultaneously pulls out his keys and unlocks the front door. The whites of his teeth are showing as he walks into the house. He pulls down the hood of his coat, taking it off and calling out-

“Geonyeob! I’m home~”

“Just in time, Hanwool~”

Hanwool’s head snaps towards the voice. His veins go ice cold as he hastily rushes to it. The sight in front of him makes him want to scream at the top of his lungs, but he doesn’t speak. Instead he rushes to Geonyeob’s side and drops to his knees, gently putting Geonyeob’s head onto his lap while tears pierce through his eyes. His pale hands tremble as he gently strokes the soft threads of hair out of Geonyeob’s face.

Geonyeob does his best to smile at Hanwool through the pain. He was silently trying to tell Hanwool not to cry.

The people around them, including Hanwool’s father, watch the scene in silence. All seeming to take in the sad pair of lovers without a care. Almost bored and completely unbothered by the dying man, who holds a bullet wound right into the chest.

How utterly sad.

Having had enough of this scene, Yeonbaek waves his hand, signaling it’s time to end this.

Large hands wrap around Hanwool and forcibly pull him away from Geonyeob. Laughing a bit in his ear at how much Hanwool’s struggling in his arms.

“No. Please, no! Please! Father please!” Hanwool pleads. His begging grows louder the moment he sees one of the others pull out a shiny, sturdy gun from their back pocket. “NO, STOP!! WAIT!!! PLEASE, NONONO, PLEASE FATHER STOP THIS PLEASE!!!!!”

Geonyeob uses his arm to reach out for Hanwool. To get him away from them. To tell him not to worry …but the bullet was faster than his hand.

In an instant, Geonyeob’s head was shattered and the blood splattered everywhere. Splashing brain matter and blood on the hardwood flooring. The sound of a bullet rang loud, but the sound of Geonyeob slumping to the floor was louder.

His outstretched hand never made it to Hanwool’s.

If only he was able to hold that hand one last time.

The horror scene that unfolded in front of Hanwool makes a dam burst of emotions fill him up. Fear, terror, heartbreak, disappointment…but most of all, overwhelming sadness. His brain may not have processed what happened but his body sure has.

Failing around like a fish gasping for water while his voice lets out a blood curdling scream. Voice full of agony and sorrow with a billion unsaid things that he wanted to say so badly to Geonyeob. Things he won’t be able to say again.

Hanwool’s screams are soon muted with a cloth covering his nose and mouth. His vision slowly fades away. His body hitting the ground beside Geonyeob’s with a soft thud. The tears are still pouring out of his beautiful blue eyes…

 ~ 3 Years Later ~

“Hanwool~ You’re husband is here~” Minhwan calls out cheerfully skipping over to Hanwool’s desk.

Hanwool, who was currently chewing on a pencil, perks up. A small smile unconsciously makes its way onto his face in an instant. Hanwool hums a bit as he gets up from his comfy office chair and, slightly, runs to the door where he almost runs straight into a bouquet of flowers. Thankfully he stops himself from doing so.

A hand wraps around his waist, very gently as if not to break him. Their face is decorated with a ginormous smile on their face.

“Yunghyeon! What are you doing here?”

“Can’t I see my husband?”

“I’m working.”

“Not anymore~ I already informed everyone I’m here to kidnap you.”

“Yunghyeon-” Hanwool starts to scold his childish husband who does whatever he likes, but a kiss cuts his words off, and he does not mind it at all.

“Bye Hanwool~”

“See you Minhwan.” Hanwool gives him a tiny wave goodbye, cheeks still red from Yunghyeon’s kiss.

~ ~ ~

Hanwool continues to shuffle around a little, feeling uncomfortable with the dream he had and can’t seem to remember. There is only one thing that comes to mind when he tries to remember what was said in it, Geonyeob.

A large arm wraps itself around his waist, jerking him toward the hard body behind him. Warm breath fans his ear that causes him to start blushing.

“Why are you moving so much?”

Hanwool flinches at the mumbled whisper, not realizing that he had accidentally woke Yunghyeon up with his movement. Whispering a little sorry as he turns around to face his husband.

“That’s not what I asked.” Yunghyeon sighs, pressing their heads together. “Did you have a nightmare? I’ll beat all the monsters up for you~” Curiosity starts to show in his golden eyes.

“No.” Hanwool huffs out a laugh, staring into the same eyes that fill him with warmth. “Do you…um, do you know someone named Geonyeob?” Hanwool cringes at his hesitance, instantly regretting the words he spoke. He shouldn’t have said that. It feels like he really shouldn’t have said that. And the way Yunghyeon’s eyes seem to fill with something darker makes him feel unsettled, like Yunhyeon’s mad.

“Sor-”

“No. I don’t know anybody, why?”

“I don’t know. It's just…a random thought? I don’t know.” Hanwool groans, “I’m probably being haunted by a ghost or something.” Unlike Hanwool’s embarrassment, Yunghyeon gives him one of his brightest smiles, along with a loud laugh.

“Haunted by a ghost? Should I cleanse you?”

“No. It was just a stupid thought that popped up inside my head.” Yunghyeon’s still laughing while Hanwool dreads his existence.

“I’m sure it was only a nightmare love~”

“Mhm, I guess.” Hanwool shuffles closer to Yunghyeon’s body even thought he was still pouting a bit at Yunghyeon daring to make fun of him. He’s probably right, it was probably just a dumb nightmare that he had…although it didn’t really feel like a nightmare. It felt warm. Comfortable. Right.

“Go to sleep dear. We can go on a date tomorrow if you want.” Yunghyeon gently kisses his forehead before placing another kiss on his lips, reassuring him.

Hanwool hums at that, burying his face into Yunghyeon’s thick chest. Very much liking the idea of a date day, just the two of them. Forgetting all of the feelings he had before as he falls back into dreamland.

Meanwhile, Yunghyeon’s dark eyes are watching him. The calloused hand gently strokes the top of his head. The thoughts circling in his mind are darker than the skin above them. Maybe he should schedule Hanwool to get brain surgery…
