Chapter Text
To say the Hero of the Wild was weird was an understatement. Yes, all the other hero's had their own quirks and oddity’s, but Wild seemed to take it a bit further than what even they would deem normal. Warriors remembered when they all first met him.
The young man was ironically, in a tree. Well, hanging from one actually. The chain had been walking in the woods near Twilight’s tree house when the sound of the rustling leaves from overhead drew their attention. The sound of a branch snapping and then there he was. As the boy swayed haphazardly the chain took him in. His long hair swayed loosely and his tattered tunic was covered in leaves. His arms seemed to be covered in scratches, though one looked off colored and wrapped in some kind of gold binding. Half of his face was covered by a dangling green sash, edged with green triforce triangles. He had a few strange odd baubles hanging from his belt. His feet were covered in calf long leather sandals and had been caught on a broken branch of the tree.
His face was level with Twilights and the hero in question lifted the sash from the strangers face. Two hauntingly blue eyes stared at them with a surprised look and a large half eaten apple in his mouth. Both he and Twi tilted their heads in confusion.
The soon to be dubbed Wild closed his eyes and waved. “Hi, I’m Link.” though his introduction was garbled because of the apple.
There was a long awkward pause before the branch holding Link fully snapped. He fell onto his face on the dirt path with a harsh grunt and rear in the air.
Wind broke the silence that seemed to stretch for a moment after the disaster. “What the fuck?”
After that things were explained and his title was given, Wild didn’t seem at all fazed that he was currently in a different Hyrule. According to him, he figured that out awhile ago. Apparently he had been in Twilights Hyrule for a few weeks. He even got to know the people of Ordon village. They were able to explain the little that they knew about the other Links and such. After that Wild hung around and helped the people while waiting for their group to appear. That event was now several months ago and everyone has learned a lot from their new member and about his adventures.
The chain just stepped out of a resent portal and Wilds face lit up brighter than they had ever seen. He ran ahead and gave a whoop of joy, signifying that this was Wilds Hyrule. It was breathtakingly beautiful.
“You seem to be supper exited Wild. You miss Flora that much.” Legend teased.
Wild turned with a smile, the scars pulling to such a degree that it looked too big for his face. The first time he showed them a smile it had unnerved the group, but now it didn’t bother them. Wild shook his head in a negative fashion. “Of course I missed her, but that's not why I’m exited”. His body vibrated like a bee. “I get to introduce you guys to someone.” He skipped ahead.
“Who?” Wild followed with building excitement.
“My mum!”,he shouted back at them.
This threw the chain in for a loop. All this time with Wild and he never mentioned anything about his family other than when he lost them to the Calamity. After they discovered his memory loss he seemed to imply every one he met was sort of like a family.
“Your mother?” Wind was trying to work out this math problem.”I thought you lost your mother.”
“I did. This is my second mum. She found me not long after I started my first adventure. I was too new at the whole saving the world thing and I got injured. I ended up wounded in a snowy bank, nearly froze to death. She found me, half covered in snow and delirious with fever. She took me in, nursed me back to health and taught me many things about the world as she knew it.” Wild stepped through the trees into a clearing and the others exited right behind. There was a large bolder in the field and scarred hero walked towards it. He turned and walked backwards. “Just", worry flashed across his face,” Just don’t freak out.”
They should have taken that as a sign as to what was to come. They all gave him questioning looks as he climbed up onto a large rocky. The free spirited hero then proceeded to take in a long deep breath and to everyone’s surprise, belted out a roar. It echoed loudly off a near by cliff face for a few seconds before fading into silence. For a few moments nothing happened, but then an answering roar had Legend reaching for his weapons.
“Shit, shit, shit. Wild what the hell are you doing?!”
“What is it Legend?” Hyrule asked as he went to step behind the Vet. Legend didn’t get the chance to answer as the sound of pounding hooves reached their ears. As the sound drew closer the ground began to shake. All the heroes, excluding Wild, seemed to figure that something was not right and were preparing to pull out their wepons. The thundering sounds increased and from across the field a massive figure broke the line of trees.
“Shit, I knew it was a Lyanel. Get back into the woods. Get out of it’s line of sight!” The others were quickly moving away when Wild urged them to stop wit a wave of his hand. “Don’t run! No sudden or aggressive movements. Do that and you’ll be fine. I promise.” The others listened, but not without thinking that their resident crazy teen had finally lost his mind.
With that said Wild again faced away from the group stomped his foot in a horse like display and shook his head as the monster came closer, seemingly doing the opposite of what he told them a moment before. He roared again and arched his back in a strange manor. The beast had a dark mane and a chestnut coat. Its arms, legs and tail were the same color as the mane. It wore a large leather chest guard and had a monstrous looking spear and bow strapped to its back. As the Lyanel came closer the chain had their weapons at the ready, but downward to not antagonize the monster.
The beast came to a stop kicking up dust and huffed an angry sounding snort, blowing Wilds hair out of his face. It roared intimidatingly at Wild and shook it’s large chocolate brown mane. Wild made the same motion just as aggressively as his hylian body possibly could. He had pulled out his hair tie letting his hair free in the light breeze. Its sway mimicked the Lyanels own hair, large and wild. They were eye to eye in a stare down and the chain held their collective breath.
Then, the Lyanel leaned its head down and gave the Hero of the Wild a big exaggerated lick in the face. The collective hero’s jaws dropped as the beast grabbed the boy in a massive hug and lifted him into the air, his feet dangling. Wild was laughing and returned the hug with equal enthusiasm. A loud calming rumble reached their ears as the Lyanel nuzzled the champion head. After a moment it placed him back down and looked at the rest of them, the mood changing sharply as it studied them all with narrowed eyes. Wild jumped off the bolder and gestured to the others.
“Guys, this is my mum, Roarta. She’s the one who watched over me when I was unwell and such when I fist woke up on the plateau. Roarta these are my brothers.“ Roarta released a lout snort in acknowledgment at the heroes.
“Wild” Legend tried to keep calm the best he could as he stepped cautiously closer, his voice straining,” That is a goddess damn Lyanel. A monster! How the 'Fuck' are you still alive?”
“My charm and excellent wit.”Wild waved his question off,”Next question.”
Wind, a bit braver than the others at the moment climbed up the rock. “I haven't seen a Lyanel before. It looks like a boss monster.”
“She,” Wild emphasized. “is just like any other Lyanel throughout my Hyrule.”
At that moment the Lyane pawed at the ground and leaned forward. “Cub, find family?” The voice deep, but not as deep as a one would think a five thousand pound wall of muscle would sound. The sentence was hesitant and rough, as if it hadn’t been used for a while.
“Holy crap, it can talk.” Legend was flabbergast.
This time Wild scowled. “She can. They all technically can to some degree, but why bother then they don’t interact much with others outside their own kind.” Wild waved him off with a hand nonchalantly. “They tend to keep to themselves and their territories” Anyways, lets go. I can whip up something extra special that can satisfy both us and Roarta at her place.” Wild turned to Roarta” If that is okay with you that is?”
Roarta nodded in agreement.” Come. Home safe. Boundary strong.” At that the Lyanel began to walk the way it had come.
Wild leaped onto her back and urged the rest to follow. Wind, Sky and Hyrule were the first to trail after him while the rest lingered for a moment.
“THIS IS CRAZY! We’re all crazy. What... The... Hell.” Legend ran after them in disbelief. “How is this possible.”
They walked maybe 15 minutes before they stood at the entrance a large cave and carefully entered it. Legend continued to grumble and his voice having a quiet echo to it. As they continued onward the rough walls of the cave began to soften out to the point that it looked expertly carved. The Lyanel was unfazed by the dark, but the links pulled out their lamps to light the way. The further in they went the warmer it got. Heat radiated from the walls and the further end of the tunnel began to lighten. It it was a few moments later the group stepped out into a wide open cavern.
The cavern had several levels, each connected by a ramp carved out of the side wallw. Each level had other cave entrances leading to the unknown. In the center was a large fire pit glowing molten hot. A pile of sand was piled next to a wall near one of the exits. Pipe like contraptions crossed the room, one leaving through one of the tunnels. There were work benches and tables that would fit a Lyanel placed throughout randomly, each decorated with different item. Large tools hung on racks throughout the room. Hammers, pikes, clamps and others. Off to the side were several massive anvils and behind those on the walls were expertly crafted weapons.
Four gasped. This was a forge. One far bigger than he’s ever seen. The smallest hammer there was easily twice his size. The smith was sure he was drooling.
Wild leapt down from Roarta’s back and urged them into one of the side caves. The cave had piles of furs and soft cloth strewn about in some kind of nest formation.
“We can stay here for the night. Roarta wont mind us.” Wild turned back to the main room and set himself up near a large cooking pot and got to work on the evening meal. Time and the others looked at each other in discomfort. “Well I don’t think I'm getting any sleep tonight.” Huffed Legend. “How about you guys?”
Wind proceeded to leap into the furry pile. “All good here. If Wilds cool with her, then I am. We’re not dead yet.” Sky and Hyrule flopped next to the sailor. “And you two? Both of you seem quite calm about this development.” Time questioned.
Hyrule fiddled with his fingers and looked to the side in nervousness. “I also know a monster in my world. He helped me out a few times, so its not impossible to see other monsters in other Hyrules doing the same.”
“Sky?”
The skyloftian smiled. “I knew a monster named Batreaux. He was on Skyloft during my adventure. He’s not exactly a monster anymore though.”
This raised some eyebrows. “Anymore?” Wind sat up.
“Yes, I helped him in getting Gratitude Crystals. They gave him a human form and all the monsters on Skyloft disappeared. Ever since then, he’s been helping Sun and I in building the surface.”
“So befriending a monster in not unheard of then. Neat! And this one saved Wild apparently. I think we’ll be fine.” Wind wiggled his way between the two. “Anyway, I want to know the story behind Wild and Roarta. It must be cool.”
“We can still have a night watch, but I don’t think in needs to be a concern. If Wild trusts her then so be it. I have faith in Wild’s judgment.” Sky then flopped onto the furs behind him and fell asleep.
As the others began to settle in, Time overlooked Wild in the main room. He tensely watched as the Lynel came up behind the boy. When it reached him a large hand pat him on the head before going of to the other side of the fire pit. As it past its gaze landed in Time and watched him. The stare down lasted a minuet before it turned away into another cave, hooves echoing.
“She looks different than the Lynel’s in Wilds album.” Time was startled at the appearance of Four by his side.
“Is that so?” hes answered, letting the boy continue.
“She seems a little smaller and her coat coloration looks more like an actual horse. She looks like a bay type? I wonder how strong is she in comparison to other of her kind? Is she an outcast? What is she doing here? Why did she not just kill wild lake any other monster would?” Four had his hand to his chin. “So many questions.”
There was a loud echo as Wild hit his pot, “Dinner time”
Four and Time looked at each other seeming to mentally prepare themselves for what was going to be an interesting meal time. Four joined Wild first while Time went to fetch the others from the room. Some of them exited and some apprehensive about the up coming experience.
