Dream is a touchy person, making sure to hug, high-five, or touch every new person they meet in some way in hopes that he'll find his soulmate.
George is reserved, hates to be touched, and will avoid it every way he can, scared to meet his soulmate when he isn't ready.
"I'm going to give you the biggest hug when we meet." Dream said through their discord call, leaning back in his chair and watching the screen where George's face was shown on camera.
"You're such an idiot." George laughed, staring at Dream's discord icon in front of him.
"I'm not! I'm just affectionate, you know that!"
"And so is Sapnap. He wouldn't stop clinging to me when he was here."
"You know you like it when we love on you." Dream teased, spinning in his chair.
George rolled his eyes. When he met Sapnap and went to pick him up from the airport in an Uber, his heart was racing. George knew he would be obligated to hug him, endure an arm slung over his shoulders as the shorter man talked about his flight. And in all honesty, he was terrified. George didn't have feelings for Sapnap, not romantic ones, and he was still scared there would be a chance that they would be soulmates. So he accepted the hug with tense shoulders and lightly placed hands, watching Sapnap's neck closely where his own cheek was pressed. Then he saw nothing there, nothing at all, and felt a giant weight leave his shoulders. George was the one to initiate the next hug and a lot of affection during Sapnap's time in England.
"Can you believe you'll be moving here any day?"
"Can you believe you could show me your face any day?" George grinned, wishing he could see his best friend on the screen.
Dream groaned, leaning back in his chair. "Don't remind me."
"Why? Scared Gogywoggy won't like it?" George said in a stupid voice, smiling wide at his idiotic jokes.
"Oh my god, shut up." Dream whined, letting his head fall to his desk. "I'm worried you'll think
I'm ugly…" He whispered, barely picked up by his mic.
George paused, finding himself frowning at the other's words. "Dream, you're not ugly."
"You don't know that."
"Yes, I do."
"You haven't even seen me." Dream protested.
"I don't need to see you to know you're attractive," George said without thinking, biting his lip. The silence felt like it was strangling him as he waited for a response from Dream.
"Thanks," the other whispered, glad he didn't have a camera on to show his red face in his hands. "We should get some rest."
"Yeah…" George took a deep breath, looking away from his camera. "I'll see you tomorrow."
"Yeah, you will." Dream said with a slight hint of amusement but hope in his voice that tomorrow would be the day.
As the call ended, both men felt their stomachs flip in anticipation of the coming day. It was already late, both exhausted but shaking with fear and excitement for what could come tomorrow.
The moon shone through Dream's window, quiet outside at 2 am, as it should be.
On the other hand, George closed his blinds to stop the sunlight from beaming through them before he collapsed on the bed. At 7 am, people would wake up, but that's when George sleeps, so he can stay with his best friend despite the 5-hour time difference between them.
Hours passed, early afternoon when they finally started responding to each other's texts, George waiting around his house like he did every day now. Waiting and waiting for his Visa to arrive.
Somehow, today was the day. He was shaking as he took a photo with his Visa to post later before rushing to set up an impromptu recording setup.
As George sat on his couch, camera set up to record the moment, he heard his heart beating in his ears.
Idiot :)
Dream
It's here
Wait
You're joking
Your Visa?
What else
Of course I'm talking about my Visa
Moments later, George's phone was ringing with a FaceTime request from Dream. He had to take deep breaths before readying himself for what would happen before holding his phone up to his face and accepting the call.
"Are you memeing? Are you memeing me?" Dream yelled with the camera turned off on the call.
"I'm serious." George's smile was wide, cheeks flushed red.
"You're being completely serious?"
"It's finally happening, Dream, I'm coming to Florida! We're going to be together."
"I- oh my god! George I-" He sounded choked up, voice so full of emotion.
George would have to cut this part out later; this moment is for them.
As Dream fixed himself in the mirror, never feeling good enough, but knowing it would have to do, he lifted his phone. "Ready?"
"Yeah," George whispered, too scared to break the moment.
Dream turned his camera on, smiling nervously.
The Brit's breath got caught in his throat as he, in truth, stared at his best friend with lovestruck eyes. "Wow, I-" he suddenly remembered being on camera and straightened up. "You look nothing like what I imagined!" He laughed, still smiling so wide his cheeks hurt.
Soon, this would be in person. They could have this every day: soft talks and tender words. He could have his best friend by his side.
The plane ride there made things worse. George realized he would touch Dream, a new person he'd never touched before. What if Dream is his soulmate? He feels elated when they're together, and he's pretty sure that he's been unknowingly pining for this man since they met. He knew that if the two of them spent the rest of their days together in domestic bliss, he would be happy. Maybe they could finally put some of those jokes into reality and try a relationship. They were the perfect pair.
Then, a scarier question came to mind. What if Dream wasn't George's soulmate? What if they touch and no color explodes on their skin? What if George has to repress the feelings he has for Dream? He knows the blonde has been searching for his soulmate since he knew what the word meant. And if they weren't destined to be together, Dream would never take him.
He couldn't sit still for the rest of the flight, sipping on the disgusting complimentary champagne he was given to try and calm his nerves, but it didn't work. What did help, though, was getting a hug from Sapnap in the airport, knowing he could count on his friend for support when he needed it.
Even with Sapnap assuring him everything would be okay and to just enjoy the meeting at the moment, it was hard to relax. His heart was pounding behind his ribs, only getting louder in his ears as they parked in the driveway.
"Do you want me to get him?" Sapnap asked slowly, holding the camera up to face George.
"Yeah, yeah, I guess I'll meet him out here." George took a deep breath as he exited the car, stepping around nervously and looking at all the doors that Dream could emerge from at any time.
Dream was pacing the house, rushing to Sapnap when he entered their home. This all felt so surreal.
"He's here." Sapnap smiled at his friend, a recurring look that helped ease the blonde's nerves ever so slightly. "Are you excited?"
"I'm-" Dream had to take a deep breath, chest aching. "I'm excited and nervous." His feet hopped around as he tried to shake off his nerves.
"Take your time, we'll be outside."
This was it; the two were finally going to meet.
Dream slowly stepped outside through the gate, making eye contact with George, who looked just as nervous as him. As they got closer, they broke into broad smiles that reached their eyes, and the world's colors seemed brighter.
The taller man couldn't help picking up the pace, running to George to embrace him in a tight hug, their chins resting on each other's shoulders before pulling away, remembering the camera on them. They celebrated loudly as Sapnap set off a party popper, filling the air with confetti and setting his moment as a core memory for all of them. The two met eyes again once the camera was off, smiling like kids who just got a treat.
"You're finally here," Dream whispered.
"I'm here," George said back just as quietly.
Dream reached out, grabbing his hands. "I can't tell you how happy I am."
George's eyes softened, squeezing Dream's hands holding his own. "I bet I'm more happy than you."
Dream snickered, eyes squinting in his wider smile. "Don't make it a competition."
As their hands separated, both of them noticed immediately. The neon drags of color across their hands where their skin had met was impossible to miss.
George raised his hands in shock, staring at the green prints where Dream once held his hand.
On the other hand, Dream stared down at his own, the biggest grin on his face as he looked up at George and back down to the bright blue on his palms. "You're my-"
"Soulmate," George whispered, looking past his hands and at Dream. "I'm your soulmate."
"This-" Dream laughed, tears springing to his eyes as he smiled so wide that his cheeks hurt. "This is the best day of my life!" The man embraced George with a tight grasp, afraid this moment would break and he would be transported back to reality. Because in no world did he feel good enough to be George's soulmate.
George didn't expect his chest to fill with butterflies during this moment. The fear he always felt when thinking about his soulmate felt like a distant memory because this, right now, was safe. It was Dream.
"I'm the luckiest person alive." Dream pulled back, cupping George's face.
"You're lying because that's me." His voice was quiet as he leaned into Dream's hands, staring up at him with eyes full of fondness.
As the blonde pulled his hand back, he laughed at the green handprints left behind.
George reached up, tracing his fingertips over Dream's jaw and watching as blue trailed behind, amazed at the sight. "You look good in blue."
Dream leaned forward, breath fanning the brunet's lips. "You look good in Green."
George took the chance and leaned in, connecting their lips in an electric kiss that made his body warm and alight. He felt the connection between them grow stronger, a weight lifted from his shoulders as he became dizzy from the kiss and swirling emotions. They parted slowly, smiling at each other with lips stained in each other's colors.
This was it. This was love. This was his soulmate.
