the rain falls smoothly, each rain drop making its own tune. the stars shine like no other, the moon making the stars feel guilty for taking up the night sky. the moon has a face like a clock on a wall in someone’s dream; the wolves howling up at the moon to make it feel alive, to make it take a deep breath and realize it’s up in the air, there’s nothing to worry about.
The demon dogs lay on their back, the moons glow reflecting off of their black and white fur. Megumi sits right next to them, slowly petting their heads as he looks out into the deep sea, the color going on forever. The dogs bring him comfort and company like no other, if you were to give him comfort or anything the like, of course he would graciously accept it but the dogs have a special place in his heart. Even though it’s raining he doesn’t mind. none of them do. for the rain brings them comfort in the cold, foggy days and nights.
He knew he should have listened to Gojo. he had told him repeatedly not to get attached to Yuuji, knowing that he was to be executed soon. he should have seen this coming, but all are blinded when love stands in the way. love makes him feel like he’s choking on water in the sea, he tries to get out of the waves, but the tides prevent him from completing his most desired action. He reaches for the crumpled up paper in his pocket and slowly opens it. As soon as he had read the words ‘To my dearest: Megumi.’ on the envelope, he knew that the time had come. He refused to believe it and give in, he wanted to believe that Itadori was still alive somewhere, living his best life.
He took a shallow breath and closed his eyes. The tears that were slowly forming came to a stop as he collected himself. He reopened his eyes and began to read, his mind blank as a soft sheet of paper.
The note read:
“ To my dearest, my one and only person i see as my true lover, the person who brings me happiness and peace like no other.
The sun has set and the moon came up, and i knew deep down that it was time for me to say goodbye to you all. This may be a lil bit too poetic or serious, but i need to get my feelings out and my mind set straight, haha! I wanted to thank you for bringing me these feelings that no one else could make me feel, Megumi.
You brought me so so much happiness over these last months and i’m so glad and thankful for that. I knew our time was cut short due to me being a vessel, but i’m glad you gave me a chance. It’s going to be okay. i can promise that. it may be different without me being here with you, but i promise that one day we’ll be able to meet again and then you can tell me all about your adventures.
i hope you love such a fulfilling and beautiful life, and even though it hurts me to say this- i hope you can move on from me. even though i was jealous of anyone practically looking your way, i think i can let this slide just this once! im sure once you’ve done your duty, we can meet again in a grassy field where the stars shine the brightest! go outside, dance with the wind, let the soft light of the sun carry you, and once your all worn out, let the moons whispering lull you to sleep.

Megumi sobbed. he didn’t know what else to do- he wanted to scream, cry, rip out his hair, everything. he felt so many emotions build up in his body it almost felt unreal. he was hyperventilating, he couldn’t breathe, he placed one hand over his chest, his heart was beating faster than it ever did. he couldn’t scream- he couldn’t breathe, was this it? that can’t be, no no no. Yuuji said he wanted him to live a long life-
a hand on his back brought him back to the present. he turned around so fast, he thought he gave himself whiplash. “G-Gojo..?” He squeaked out, his voice hoarse from crying so hard. “You doin okay, kiddo?” he asked, squatting down to his level. The demon dogs moved their head to the side, confused why their friend felt all of these sick emotions. Megumi ran a hand through each of their furs, comforting them. “h-he’s really gone, i-isn’t he..?” Megumi whispered, his voice sounding almost like a whisper of the wind. Gojo’s face stiffens. “yeah. he is. i’m so s-“ wet skin met his clothes and he stops mid sentence. his face softens as he embraces the teens touch, his only thoughts being wanting to comfort him.
“i’m so sorry.” Gojo says to the crying, almost screaming boy. he repeats the sentence over and over until he realizes that the crying has stopped and the demon dogs were no longer in sight. Megumi fell asleep, his face sticky with tears. Gojo sighs as he stands up, pulling the boy up with him. he puts the boy on his back, and he makes his way back to the school.
