Amity was thrilled. Her crush, Luz the human, had asked her out. Well, they asked each other out. But she had a girlfriend now! She was walking home with Luz after they had cleaned up the mess Hooty made a bit. They had been chatting about a good time for them to go on a date, as well as where to go too. “How about a restaurant?” Amity suggested. “Maybe. Restaurants can be tough for me, some of the foods make me sick.” Luz said, somewhat disappointed. “How about we go on a picnic or something like that? I can pack things that are safe for me to eat, and we can go more places!” “Yes! That sounds perfect. I’ll see you next week at 4?” Amity asked. “Ok! See you then!” Luz said. “Bye! Have a good night!” Luz turned away so she could walk home.
Amity walked into her house. She didn’t see her dad, he was probably working. She didn’t see her mom either. She was probably also working. Amity saw an abomination in the kitchen and saw a stack of dirty dishes. She had eaten with Luz, so she wasn’t hungry. She was a little disappointed that her family had eaten without her, but not surprised. They barely ate together anyway. She walked up the stairs to her room. She was nearing the top when she was ambushed by something. “How’d it go?” A voice shouted, right in her ear. “How’d what go… My walk? I was just walking!” Amity replied, shoving her sister off of her. “We saw you get eaten by that worm tube. Then we saw you walking home with Luz. “ Emira said, giving her sister a look. “We know you like Luz, you blush anytime anyone mentions her.” Edric continued as he came from his room. “I don’t!” Amity said, blushing. “Sure you don’t Mittens. Keep telling yourself that. Anyway, we want to know what happened. And don’t say nothing, we know something happened.” Emira said, grinning at her annoyed little sister. “How do you guys even know about all that? You were in your rooms when I left!” Amity asked. “I spied on you with a spell.” Edric said, sharing a look with Emira. Amity rolled her eyes and began her story.
“As you two know, I took a walk. I didn’t mean to walk to the owl house, it just sort of happened.” Emira gave her a look. “Don’t give me that look, I really didn’t start out that way.” Edric gave her another look. “Ok fine, I did. Next Hooty, the bird tube, ate me. It was gross. He put me in a pellet thing, and put that in the basement. Luz came and busted me out. I was embarrassed , and she seemed so embarrassed that I was in her basement and that Hooty kidnapped me. “Wait wait wait. You were in her basement? Then she asked you out? Did she ask Hooty to kidnap you?” Edric interrupted. “Let her finish!” Emira said. Edric stuck out his tongue at her. Amity continued her story. “So, she was trying to find a way out. I was fixing my hair because I wanted to look nice for her. She also was telling me that she was so sorry Hooty had brought me there.” “Their house demon finally snapped?” Edric asked puzzledly. Emira smacked him. “Don’t be rude!” She admonished him. Amity made a face and kept talking. “That’s what I was saying! I said that to her. Then I started walking to try to find a way out of the basement, and she followed me, but the floor was a pressure plate thing. “I’m gonna go steal some snacks!” Edric shouted as he walked out. “Anyways,” Amity continued. “ Luz fell and ended up hugging me around the middle and it was so sweet but so embarrassing she started blushing.” “Blushing like you’re blushing right now?” Emira asked. Amity started blushing harder. Amity scowled at her sister and stared her story again. “Then we ended up at this dock. Luz walked away from me towards the boat there, which scooped us into the boat. The boat started moving into a tunnel of love. I thought it was so sweet of Luz to set all of that up for me. No one’s ever done anything that sweet and romantic for me before! I hadn’t even realized she felt that way for me. But she seemed to hate it.” “Wait! I thought Luz liked you? Why would she destroy her own attempt to ask you out?” Emira pondered. “I’m back!” Edric shouted. “Shush Ed! I want to hear the end of her story!” Emira whishper-shouted. “I’m getting there,” Amity said. “She kept destroying the tunnel decorations. By then I felt awful. I was embarrassed and sad and a little angry. When we reached the end, I got out of the boat. Luz kept telling me that the tunnel was a mistake, and it wasn’t supposed to be that way. I honestly felt the same way about the mistake. I felt like I should have just left. Then the house started crumbling. I was scared, and Luz was so sweet! She was trying to keep me safe. We were running away from the house because it was still falling down. We were under the tower there, and a piece started falling, then someone screamed and the stone shattered and it was like the world was in slow motion. Me and Luz looked up, then at each other and it was amazing. We ran from that spot because it was unstable. Hooty was outside the door and screaming about how he’d failed Luz. A bird woman who turned out to be Eda brought Luz behind her wing to talk to her.” “ The owl lady's an actual owl?” Edric said skeptically. “No, she’s kinda like a harpy woman?” Amity said.” “Do you ever ask her out?” Emira asked. “Soon! Let me finish,” Amity said. “So, Luz stopped talking to Eda and came to me. Then the ground collapsed. She came over and asked me if I was ok, then she said the most awkwardly beautiful speech I've ever heard. She told me she wanted to ask me something and had for a while. She told me the reason she was acting weird in the tunnel was because she thought I was too cool for it.” “Wow, she must really like you. You are not all that.” Edric said, while Emira nodded. “That’s what I said!” Amity said. “That you're a nerd? Mittens, that is not the way to hype yourself up.” Emira said. “ No, I just said I wasn't as cool as she thought.” Amity said. “ Anyways so she was talking about how she was scared for the future then Iaskedherout.” Amity mumbled. “Don't mumble Mittens.” Emira admonished. “I asked her out.” Amity said, blushing. “ I knew you could do it Mittens!” Edric cheered. “Wait! You stole her big moment?” Emira gasped. “ Yes, but we tried again!” Amity responded. “She asked me, and I said yes! Then she held out her hand, and I held it!” “Wow Mittens, you really are something.” Emira said. “We’ve been waiting for weeks. We knew it was only a matter of time when you kissed her on the cheek.” Edric asked. Amity suddenly huffed both of her siblings. “I love you both!” Amity said. “Anyway, goodnight you two. Thanks for listening to my story!” “ Night mittens!” Edric called as he walked to his room. “Congratulations on your new girlfriend.” Emira said as she also left. Amity smiled at the thought of her new girlfriend.
