"Happy Bloodstone Day, science dad!" Esteban's cheerful voice woke the scientist from his sleep. He rolled over to face his bright-eyed son, and perked up when he saw the young boy holding a mug of steaming hot coffee. "I made it with a whole can of an energy drink, cuz talky dad said you would need the extra energy!"
Carlos laughed and sat up, taking the cup in his dark-skinned hands, brushing a bit of his dirty brown hair out of his face before taking a sip.
Wow. Esteban was not kidding when he said he used an entire can. Carlos started to tap his foot, and got up out of bed, walking to the kitchen, where his husband was making pancakes. The bioluminescent third eye on his forehead flicked around and widened in happiness when it saw Carlos.
Soon, the family was sitting around the tree, laughing, smiling, and opening presents.
Carlos could feel that he was welco- no, not welcomed.
This was where he belonged, didn't he?
