Change In The Status Quo (Pro Hero: Nakahara Chuuya)

Summary:

“...As a heroine in training” Mori continued.

Heroine in training? Who could that be? Gin? Ane-san??? Chuuya looked around at the others in the line for whoever that was about, but they were all facing him. He looked up towards Dazai, who was looking at him with authentic shock and confusion, an expression that Chuuya rarely ever got to see on his face. Then he turned to look at Kouyou who was wide eyed with a shocked open mouth that was slowly turning into a smile.

“Chuuya? Did you understand that?” Mori was facing the group again. “You’ll be going undercover at UA as a heroine in training”

… Heroine?

HEROINE?!

Or, what happens to hero society when you add an ex gang leader/mafioso?

Don't take it too seriously please :)

Chapter Text

Today sucked.

Really sucked.

They’d recently gotten this job because it was meant to be a quiet nine to five position where they could focus on their hobbies while being paid, otherwise known as: the dream .

They work in a store that caters to the upper classes, it’s a clothing store that's usually quiet. Probably because life isn’t fair and the amount of people with enough money to make casual purchases from these types of establishments is too few for it to ever be busy.

But not today.

Because today the entire store was full of a lot of people all wearing black suits and sunglasses. They were sure that these people were part of some organised crime shit. Maybe some mob boss's daughter needed a new winter wardrobe, or something.

The people in black suits weren’t loud themselves. Mostly it was just a lot of shuffling around as they looked through clothing rakes, although, some of them were taking selfies with some of their more… outrages pieces of clothing. But at least they were being quiet about it.

Although the majority of people in the store were being relatively quietthe store was still filled with the obnoxious chatter from what workers could only guess, based off of their eavesdropping, were a pair of siblings. A pair of siblings who were in a disagreement because one of them didn’t want to do something and the other, even though they tried to hide it, was really excited about the thing the other didn’t want to do.

And now, because of all the chatter they have to eavesdrop on, they can’t focus on their hobbies . How are they supposed to think about gay shit under these conditions? What’re they supposed to do now, work?? No???

What this poor worker didn’t know was that these ‘ siblings ’ in question, dear reader, were our very own Port Mafia members; Nakahara Chuuya and Kouyou Ozaki. And what is it you ask what has led to this disagreement? Well, prior to this they were in a meeting with several other Port Mafia members, including the boss. The meeting in question was about the situation between the heroes and the villains and what had been happening outside of Yokohama. Do you see where I'm going with this, dear reader?

High above Yokohama's skyline, at the very top of a towering black building, a meeting was taking place between numerous members of the Port Mafia.

The boss of the Port Mafia, Mori Oguai, was standing near the window looking out to the city below. The sun was setting, and as time passed and the sky darkened a glow from far away became brighter until a dome surrounding Yokohama became clear.

Mori hummed and considered the situation.

‘Villain’s’ had always skulked around the outside of yokohama. Lured in by the idea of a city run by a criminal organisation, likely hoping to attach themselves to this criminal organisation and live on with a cushy lifestyle. Too bad for them, but the Port Mafia had no interest in helping two-bit criminals whose only selling points were their useless quirks.

But recently, in addition to these villains, there had also been others that appeared to be more organised. Multiple of his subordinates had spotted these groups trying to appear inconspicuous. It appeared that these groups were making a large effort to get within the dome. This had needed to be investigated and after sending some people out to gather information it was revealed that these criminals were working for a little organisation called ‘The League of Villains’. A very on the nose name for a group of villains being led by a gamer. Although Mori was sure that this group wasn’t actually being led by this ‘Shigaraki tomura’ but instead by a man Mori had been aware of for quite some time.

All For One, a proud man with such large ideals. He’d been around for so long you’d think he’d eventually grown some brains and figured out how to tell when he was batting above his level. Mori knew that All For One had attempted to have dealings with the previous Port Mafia boss in the past. But, upon meeting the previous boss, had decided dealing with the boss’s lucincy wasn’t worth the little power he’s judged to gain from working with them.

So why try to get into the Port Mafia’s territory? Was he trying to take over the Port Mafia and use their assets for his own gain? Most likely, but he couldn’t be sure.

He needed more information.

Behind Mori the group traded glances. Was he going to start talking soon? Were they meant to be doing something?

This was getting boring, Dazai thought. They’d all been brought up here and all they’d done so far is stand around doing nothing while watching their boss have his little inner monologue.

And the light from the sun setting was starting to get in his eyes, what a pain. Dazai averted his gaze and looked down towards his right where his new partner was standing. They’d only been working together for a couple of months now but Dazai had already been having so much fun riling up Chuuya! Thinking about all the trouble he’s caused for Chuuya brought a… special smile to his face.

Chuuya, sensing the emanate danger, looked up towards his partner. He glared and tilted his head. It was somewhat new, this silent language of theirs, and they were still working out the kinks, but it worked well enough in this situation. ‘What the fuck do you want, bastard?’ his expressions said.

But Dazai’s expression only seemed to say one thing in return:

‘Chuuya, Chuuya, Chuuya, Chuuya!’

Chuuya scowled back at him. Was he misunderstanding the message or was Dazai just being annoying?

‘Chuuya, Chuuya, Chuuuuuuya~’

Yeah, he’s just being annoying.

The only thing left to do was launch a counter attack!

‘Dazai, Dazai, Dazai, Dazai!’

To the others in the room, this back and forth just looked like the two were pulling increasingly odd faces at one another. Standing next to Chuuya, Kouyou, who had been zoning out thinking about what tea she should have when she finally got to sit down, took notice of the two and pulled Chuuya from the back of his collar, closer to her before the interaction could turn physical. Besides this, the two continued pulling faces at each other; much to Kouyou’s chagrin.

On the other side of the line of people stood one of the newest members, Gin. She’d been entertaining herself by looking at the clouds and deciding what they looked like, but it was starting to get old. There are only so many sausage shaped things each cloud could be.

She turned to look up at her superior, Hirotsu, and gave him a deadpan stare. Hirotsu didn’t need to know some crazily complicated silent language to understand what Gin was trying to say. He looked over to Kouyou and saw that she was still preoccupied. He sighed, guessing it was his time to step up.

“Boss”

Mori paused his considerations and turned slightly to face the group behind him. Seeing this the duo that was getting rowdy were quickly grabbed by Kouyou and held still.

“Yes, Hirotsu?”

“Apologise for interrupting, but you called us all up here for a reason?”

“Ah, yes” Mori turned around to face his subordinates. “It’s come to my attention that some members of the outside world are trying to make their way inside ours

“Something’s starting beyond the dome, and they want us involved. Our knowledge about this group is somewhat outdated, and before I can decide what our stance will be in this I need more information”.

Mori turned back around to face the window, looking out over at the dome. “You will all be leaving Yokohama. Some of you will be crafting new identities and living in their society, while others will be moving in and out, circling information around.”

Mori spun back around to face the window. Everyone stood quiet, waiting for their assignments. (And wondering why Mori wouldn’t stop spinning around. Maybe he’s trying to shake the jitters out of his legs after standing in the same place for so long).

“Hirotsu, you and the black lizards will be moving in between the others and helping them out with maintaining their cover.

“Kouyou, you will be infiltrating a criminal organisation known as the ‘Shie Hassaikai’. They’re a weak group, but it seems like they will eventually try to start something, so you will be keeping an eye on them for the time being.

“Dazai, you will be accessing their own criminal underworld while masquerading as a minor villain. Keep out of the spotlight and stay away from the centre for now, slowly integrate yourself into the fold as necessary”

Standing next to Chuuya, Dazai inaudibly groaned, showing his dissatisfaction for the role. Chuuya laughed quietly, knowing that Dazai hated missions that would take so much work and last so long. Then he realised that he wasn't included in the explanation. Did that mean he and Dazai were working separately? Which would be fine if so! Dazai was so annoying to work with!! If they were both busy with different tasks for who knows how long then Dazai wouldn't be able to tease him and Chuuya could finally get some peace and quiet!…

“...As a heroine in training” Mori continued through Chuuyas inner monologue.

Heroine in training? Who could that be? Gin? Ane-san??? They both already had roles to play, but there were no other women here.

… Heroine?

HEROINE?!

“Ane-san!! I don’t need any of this!” Chuuya slumped down onto one of the many provided setting areas. Why are there so many couches in these stores?? Chuuya had read somewhere that USB’s get heavier when they have data on them, maybe it was the same for bank cards?? The more money that had on them the heavier they were. That would explain all the couches… if someone was carrying around something really heavy they’d want to take breaks occasionally. Wait no, that didn’t sound right. Where did he hear the thing about USB’s? Probably Dazai. Fucking liar.

“You’re going undercover, Chuuya. You need to look the part” Kouyou tightly explained whilst moving through the racks of clothing. Kouyou could act serious all she wanted, Chuuya knew how excited about all this she really was. Especially after seeing her reaction when they heard the news.

She was smiling!

At his pain!!

Kouyou turned back around with a dress in her hands. “How about this one?”

“I don’t need dresses! The only new clothes I need to get is a uniform!” Chuuya exclaimed before falling back on the chair in a limp starfish pose.

“But what about when you go out? To keep up appearances you’ll need to make friends with your cohort, and that means going out to social events” Kouyou was definitely more excited about this than he was. Which wasn’t a surprise considering what he had figured out in the last couple of months after meeting Kouyou.

Chuuya knew that Kouyou didn’t really want him doing work for Mori. Sometimes, instead of going on missions, Kouyou would lie to Mori and say that they were busy, then they would just sit and drink tea together. Chuuya knew Kouyou didn’t like Mori very much, she never said anything, but he could tell that she didn’t agree with his actions. But he was the better alternative, especially considering who was in charge before.

Because of this, it wasn’t insane to think that Kouyou would be happy if he were out of the city, with the added bonus of having to pretend to be a normal teenager. Kouyou was always trying to get Chuuya to hold on to his childhood. But Chuuya didn’t think he had much of that left, besides this was his job now. And jobs are meant to take up your entire life, your every waking hour, right??

Also Kouyou really wanted a little sister.

“You’ll be amongst heroes, Chuuya. And even though you haven’t been in the mafia long you’ve already gained some notoriety outside of Yokohama because of that… incident”

Oh my god, she’s talking about that isn’t she! She said she’d drop it!!

“That wasn't my fault! That was Dazai’s!!” The incident she was referring to was something that happened just last month. Because of Dazai’s status as the next in line to be boss, Mori had sent him off to another branch in France, to build connections. And since being next in line would attract people wanting to harm the Port Mafia, Chuuya was sent along as backup. Also, Chuuya wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity to go to France, come on, it's France! The place Chuuya was going to live one day once he took it over and erected his palace on top of the eiffel tower!!

However, that mission didn’t end up going too great. Actually, it ended up with a few broken buildings, a couple of dead government officials and a fresh new bounty. But Chuuya had already been grounded for it all! He served his time! So why does Kouyou keep bringing it up??

Kouyou huffed, but not really, cause she’s a sophisticated lady, so she did whatever the equivalent was. “... As I was saying. Because of your new status as a ‘villain’ there’s a large chance you’ll be recognised. But at the same time if you were to wear a wig it might fall off during training, the same with any temporary facial modifications. And if you were to dye your hair, someone might notice your roots growing in. And if you used eye contacts your sight would be obstructed.”

Deciding the clothing in her hand wasn’t worth buying, Kouyou turned around to put it back in the clothes rack. “The best disguise is not just changing your appearance, but also changing how people view you as a person. Thus disguising your gender and personality.”

“I already knew all that” Chuuya rolled off the side of the chair onto the floor “But i don’t need to wear expensive dresses and skirts for people to think i’m a girl. I should be able to just tell them that for them to leave it alone.” Chuuya didn’t really understand why people were so attached to gender roles and stereotypes, maybe it’s because he spent a lot of his earlier years without it. That was why he didn’t really care about having to be a girl for this mission, he’d still be Chuuya regardless of what people assumed he had in his pants.

Which is why he shouldn’t have wear any of those expensive dresses Kouyou was looking at. Girls wear hoodies and jeans all the time! Why couldn’t he?!

Chuuya wasn’t really used to luxury just yet, it hadn’t been long since he was sleeping on the floor and had only one set of clothes to his name. He liked wearing expensive clothing, it was so much softer than the stuff he used to get, but it was still weird spending that much money on it.

Kouyou looked down at Chuuya on the floor “Chuuya, I understand this will be hard for you. We’ve only just started on your undercover training, this mission will be very exhausting and emotionally draining for you. Keeping up a thorough cover for so long would do that to any professional”. She knelt down and patted his head until he relented and made eye contact. “If there’s anything i can do to make this experience easier for you just say the word and it’ll be done”

Chuuya thought for a second. He didn’t think it was going to be as hard as Kouyou was saying, or at least it wouldn’t be for those reasons. But he knew that being in this store definitely wouldn’t help with what he was actually worried about. “... I’ve never been to school before. or hung around normal teenagers before. I don’t know what to expect.”

Kouyou smiled. “Well, there’s only one thing that can help with that” she got up and started walking towards the exit. Chuuya got up to follow, a confused look on his face, before he could ask Kouyou answered. “Come along now Chuuya, no use wasting our time here. We have some research to conduct.”

They spent the next couple of days binge watching various dramas centred around highschools and Chuuya felt both more prepared and scared of what was to come.
