Chapter Text
This is going to be fine. Kate thought, or tried to think really. Tried to tell herself at least. It's just like Rachel said, I just have to be confident. She steeled her nerves as she stared at the door in front of her, although I think Rachel and I have very different ideas about being "confident"... She shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts as she reached up to knock on the door. After a few seconds the door opened and Kate was greeted by Dana's eternally gorgeous smile.
"Hey Kate!" she beamed
Kate swallowed the lump in her throat before responding, "H-hey Dana. I was wondering if we could talk for a second?"
"Oh for sure, come on in," she said, turning towards the gym bag she had spread across the couch. "I have to leave for cheer practice in a bit but I have a few minutes to talk if you don't mind me continuing to get my stuff together."
"Oh no that's fine," Kate pulled at the hem of her cardigan, "I was just wondering if you're free on friday?"
Dana turned back to face Kate, a curious look on her face, "I should be, why what's up?"
Kate felt entirely too hot under the watch of those brilliant blue eyes. She tried to stuff down all her nerves. “It would be so much easier to ask her out if she weren't so pretty. All I can think about is how much I want to kiss her.”
Dana's eyes went wide and a huge grin split her face, "Holy shit Kate I never expected you of all people to be so bold."
A moment of confusion washed over Kate before the reality of the situation hit her and she clasped both hands over her mouth in shock, "Oh my gosh I just said that out loud!"
"Yeah you did," Dana chuckled. "So," she continued, a coy tone slipping into her voice, "what time should I be ready for our date on friday?"
Kate covered her face with her hands to hide the fact that she was surely beet red, "Sorry I don't think I'll make it, I might combust from embarrassment before then." She faintly, heard Dana's footsteps getting closer before she felt a soft warmth on her cheek. She lowered her hands to see Dana pulling back from where she'd kissed Kate's cheek.
"I don't know if this will be reassuring at all," she said, a sweet smile on her face, "but you've already asked me out so like, hard part's over right?"
Kate stood in awe of her crush, how she could still be so smooth and sweet and seemingly interested?? after Kate's bumbling announcement.
"So," Dana said, still smiling, beautiful as ever. "Friday?"
Kate smiled back, "Friday."
