Chapter 1: A letter and reminder.

Chapter Text

Stealth Elf woke from her short but healthy rest, waking up early, she got ready, bathing, getting dressed, and having a small breakfast. She then got out of the house and made her way to the training yard.

Putting on the maximum settings, she stretched before starting.

She quickly began ducking, flipping, and dodging any attacks, while kicking, slashing, and destroying dummies, determined to beat her best time.

Yet as she did so, she felt like she had forgotten something. Something incredibly important. Did she forget to take her clothes out of the washer? No, she did that yesterday. Did she forget to turn off the light in her room? No, she remembered doing that. Did she forget to turn the stove off? No, she didn't even use it.

The thought in her head stayed there as she tried to focus on the course, leaping through the obstacles, smashing the dummies, and leaping across the finish line.

She beat her time, she just knew it in her gut, and as she tapped her foot waiting for the machine to process the results her certainty only grew and grew until it finally appeared.

Three minutes and four-point thirty-two seconds.

"Yes!" She said in excitement. "Point two seconds faster!"

With a newly achieved pride in her step, Stealth Elf went through the rest of her daily morning workout and training, which lasted a good two hours and began her return home, the morning sun shining bright.

At the end of her journey back, she saw a Mabu in a mail delivery service, and with a mischievous smile, disappeared and reappeared before him in an attempt to scare him.

"Boo!"

He simply handed her the mail.

"Thank you for your effort ma'am, but I'm too dead inside for it to work." He said before walking away.

To that, Stealth Elf simply shrugged before she walked back to the house and entered it, the smell of Eruptor's pancakes.

After setting down the mail on the coffee table, she walked up to the counter where Eruptor set a plate with three pancakes on the table.

"Someone's having a good morning. Beat your time again by any chance?"

"Yep, nothing big just....a whole point two seconds!" She said.

"Wow. Didn't have something like that happen in a week. Congrats Elf." He said.

"Yeah, congrats Elf!" Spyro said, flying down the stairs and grabbing his plate.

"Cheers indeed. Now let's see what we have in the mail today." Jet-Vac said, coffee mug in hand.

"I'm surprised the mail is even here." Pop Fzz said, having just come out of the Basement. "You know how inconsistent you can be."

"They very much can be," Jet-Vac said, flipping through the magazines and junk mail before finding something of interest.

"Aha! my pension! About time it finally got here." He said pulling out the envelope.

"You have a pension JV?" Stealth Elf said, having already finished her pancakes.

"Yes, I do. I am a retired Commander in the Harhurwin Authority after all. And they never forget a service." The Sky Baron said.

"Speaking of forgetting, I swear I'm missing something." Stealth Elf said, taking a seat near the coffee table.

"Did you forget to take your clothes out of the washer?" Spyro asked.

"No, I did that yesterday."

"Did you forget to turn off the light in your room?" Jet-Vac asked.

"No, I remember doing that."

"Did you forget to turn the stove off?" Pop Fizz asked

Eruptor turned and looked at the gremlin, only slightly annoyed.

"No, I didn't even use it."

"Maybe this has something to do with it." Jet-Vac handed her a green envelope, with the name Stealth Elf written on it.

"Hmph. Maybe." She said before pulling out one of her blades and cutting it open.

Pulling out a letter of a lighter green, Stealth Elf read the letter quietly before her pupils shot open. And she disappeared.

"How could I forget!?" She said, reappearing on the top of the staircase before disappearing again.

"How could I let this happen!?" She said, appearing in the kitchen, before disappearing again.

"I can't believe I did this!" She said, her voice muffled due to its origin being in the basement.

She reappeared in the living room.

"I can't believe I-

Spyro grabbed her arm.

"Calm down Elf. What happened?" The dragon asked.

Stealth Elf, after a couple of hasty breaths, breathed deeply before exhaling.

"I forgot to write to my master and sister for almost three years and I'm the worst sister and pupil ever!" She said quickly, but slow enough for someone to understand.

There was a small but heavy silence for a second before Eruptor broke it.

"Okay. That's a mistake. But an honest mistake surely."

"It was! I tried to write back and forth, but I was focusing so much on making friends, exploring myself, and getting good grades, and the mail system is so inconsistent that I figured taking a day off from writing to focus on other stuff would be fine, then I kept doing that, and then I forgot entirely!"

"Alright, alright, calm down. I'm sure your master and sister would understand." Eruptor said.

"Yeah, just write to them now." Pop Fizz said.

"Why not go visit in person? You wouldn't have to worry about the mail system, and can better explain everything. And I'm sure a nice visit would do both parties well."

With that, another realization hit Stealth Elf.

"Oh my gosh, I forgot to visit too!"

"Oh. Sorry to hear that."

"Okay...okay. Um, would you guys be okay if I left for a couple of days to go see them?" She asked.

"Oh sure, nothing's going on really, and I'm sure if anything happens we can hold down the fort." Jet-Vac said.

"Really? Thanks so much! You guys are the best!" Stealth Elf said. "Now I just need to get ready."

She disappeared and reappeared.

"Alright, I'm off. Thanks again, guys! Bye!" She said before dashing out the door, almost too fast to hear them say bye back.

And so she set off, to the Enchanted Forest. Home. While on the way she reread the letter.

"Dear Stealth Elf.

I must say that I am disappointed that you continue to not write back or visit, however, I hope your studies are going well, and that you feel the best you can. Your sister has recently finished her training in weaponry and martial arts, earning her blackbelt in those fields. She is growing stronger and more able with each day, showing time and time again that you two are most definitely sisters. I hope all is going well, that you managed to summon the courage to talk to that dragon and lava guy about being friends, and that you make sure to learn all you can, and use every opportunity to grow you can use. We miss you, please write back soon.

Sincerely

Master Cami Flage."

There was also a writing in purple crayon "Hi from Whisper." in the bottom right corner.

Stealth Elf somberly smiled over the letter, she had messed up, and that was something she dearly regretted, but she was going to do everything she could to fix and make it up.

And so, Stealth Elf made her way to the Enchanted Forest.
