Differences

Summary:

Coryo contemplates his love for Lucy Gray on Valentine's Day. That is until Festus Creed comes knocking.

This story is inspired by the song "Differences" sung by Ginuwine and written by Ginuwine and Troy Oliver. I do not own the song and clearly I did not write it, but I did use the lyrics for this story. The lyrics are in italics.

This story takes place separate from the That Fateful Day Series and Santa Baby, but you might find an easter egg or two from That Fateful Day.

Chapter Text

Oh, hey.
Oh, yeah, oh, yeah.
To you.
Mmm, mmm, mmm.
Oh, yeah, babe.

My whole life has changed. (My whole life has changed)

Indeed, it has.

Since you came in. (since you came in)
I knew back then. (I knew back then)

Even at the start of their relationship, he felt something for her that he never felt for anyone else before.

You were that special one. (you were that one)

She still is that special one.

I'm so in love. (so, in love)
So deep in love. (so deep in love)

His love for her will never die.

You make my life complete. (you complete me)

He would be a lost and broken without her.

You are so sweet. (are so sweet)
No one competes. (no one competes)

She is sweeter than honey. Not to mention she loves sweet things. He bought more than enough chocolate for her today. She will probably share it with the kids.

Glad you came into my life. (my life)

He would not have a life if she weren’t in it.

You blind me with your love. (love)
with you I have no sight. (no sight)

Again, he would be lost without her.

Girl, you open me I'm wide open.
And I'm doing things I never do.

He would have never cheated if he hadn’t fallen in love with her. He wouldn’t have put so much on the line if he didn’t love her. He did everything he could possibly do to keep her safe.

But I feel so good, I feel so good.
Why it take so long for me finding you?

If only they had met under different circumstances instead of the Hunger Games. Still, having her in his life is only thing that matters regardless of how it all started.

This is my story and I'm telling you.
It's not fiction, it's surely a fact.

Oh, it’s all real. He could never fake this. Something as pure as love can’t be faked.

Without you right here having my back.
I really don't know just where I'd be at.

He would still be president of Panem, but there would be a hole left in his heart that he would guard fiercely until the day he dies. He would have longed for her but concluded that they would never work out. Of course, that version of himself would be incredibly wrong. That fateful day in the woods nearly cost him. However, telling her the truth instead of lying to her ensured that their love could handle the worst.

My whole life has changed. (My whole life has changed yeah)

He might have ended up marrying Livia if Lucy Gray hadn’t come into his life.

Since you came in, I knew back then. (Ooh, oh, yeah)

You were that special one. (You were that)

Love in the Hunger Games. Who would ever guessed?

I'm so in love, so deep in love.

He couldn’t imagine loving anyone else.

You make my life complete. (You make my life complete)
You are so sweet no one competes. (oh, oh, oh)
Glad you came into my life. (Oh)
You blind me with your love, with you I have no sight.

He has eyes for no one except for Lucy Gray.

I analyzed myself, I was buck wild.
Never thought about settling down.

He was obsessed with restoring the Snow family to prominence and making a name for himself. Love wasn’t even an afterthought but look at him now.

But all the time I knew I was ready.
But not with all my friends around.

Festus and his stupid bets. Coryo would not be surprised if he placed a bet with Felix and Hilarius that he would fall in love with Lucy Gray.

But girl, I put you first now. (I put you first now)

Lucy Gray is always the foremost priority. Her safety means everything to him. The look on Dr. Gaul’s face as her own poison overtook her was priceless. No one threatens his love and his family and lives to see another day.

You made me, helped mold me. (Mold me, baby)

Turned me into a man, I'm so responsible.
And I owe it all to you.

He certainly would not be the man he is today if she weren’t by his side.

My whole life has changed. (My whole life has changed)
Since you came in, I knew back then. (come on)
You were that special one. (You were that special one)
I'm so in love, so deep in love. (Oh, oh, oh)

Lucy Gray is his one and only. There could never be another.

You make my life complete. (You make my life complete)
You are so sweet, no one competes.
Glad you came into my life. (So glad you came in)
You blind me with your love. (Blind me, baby),
With you I have no sight.

Every night when she lays her head on his chest, he feels every bit of her warmth and love. He would follow her to the end of the earth and back. Protect from her threat that comes her way because he NEEDS her like nobody else.

God has blessed me, baby.
Girl, He was good to me when He sent you.
I'm so happy, I'm so happy, baby, oh, yes, I am.

He is the luckiest man in the world. There isn’t a single soul like Lucy Gray.

(Share my world) Come and share my world, baby,
Oh whoa yeah yeah.

President and First Lady of Panem. Three kids. The rose garden. Their bed. Their shower and bath. And even bread pudding with sweet kisses. Sharing his life with Lucy Gray is the best thing he ever did.

(I'm so in love) I'm so in love.
I'm addicted to your love, baby, yeah.

They are addicted to each other. They can’t keep their hands, lips, and other body parts away from one another when they are alone. Tigris had been mortified when she caught them in Grandma’am’s rose garden one day.

My whole life has changed. (Oh, yes, I am)
Since you came in, I knew back then. (Ooh)
You were that special one. (You were that very, very special one)
I'm so in love (You were that very, very special one), so deep in love.

You make my life complete. (You make my life complete)
You are so sweet (Yes, you did, baby), no one competes. (No one competes, oh)
Glad you came into my life.
You blind me with your love (Come on), with you I have no sight.

My whole life has changed. (My whole life has changed)
Since you came in, I knew back then. (You made a difference in my life)
You were that special one. (I knew you were that special one)
I'm so in love, so deep in love. (When I first laid eyes on you, babe)

You make my life complete. (You make my life complete, darlin')
You are so sweet, no one competes. (No one competes, baby)
Glad you came into my life. (No one, no one)
You blind me with your love (No one), with you I have no sight. (Come on)

My whole life has changed. (Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa)
Since you came in, I knew back then.

Indeed, his whole life has changed since meeting Lucy Gray.

“Coryo, are you daydreaming?” Festus Creed asks snapping his fingers at Coryo.

“Huh?”

“That would be a yes. I’m sure it was about Lucy Gray,” Festus remarks with a smirk.

“Really, Festus,” Coryo groans. “As President, I have a lot of work to do.”

“As Chief Architect, I have plenty of things to do too, but I take breaks like everyone else. Now, what did you get her?”

“Get who what?” Coryo asks as if he doesn’t know what Festus is talking about.

“Coryo, quit playing stupid. What did you get Lucy Gray for today?”

“Festus, why do you need to know? Shouldn’t you be wooing Persephone instead of pestering me about my love life?”

“I’ve already wooed Persephone this morning and I am sure my Valentine’s gift I got her will allow me to woo her again tonight,” Festus laughs.

“I really didn’t need to know that. Now if you don’t have business to talk about, then please get out Festus,” Coryo dictates with authority.

Of course, this does not faze Festus Creed.

“Don’t try that authoritative president bullshit on me, Coryo. We have been friends since childhood. Now, what is your Valentine’s Day gift for Lucy Gray?”

“You’re not going to leave until I tell you, are you?”

“Nope.”

“Obviously, a large heart full of delicate chocolates and chocolate covered fruits because we all know she loves sweet things.”

“Of course. Go on.”

“A handcrafted romantic card with a romantic note.”

“Did you actually make it, or was it Tigris?”

“It was Tigris, but I told her how I wanted it to be designed and then handwrote the note myself.”

“Makes sense. Please continue,” Festus says, nodding his head.

Coryo nearly groans out loud.

“Sapphire earrings.”

“Good, good.”

“A romantic dinner at the Gemstone.”

“Smart move. That has my approval.”

Coryo rolls his eyes.

“I bought a gold and diamond necklace with a heart locket that has a picture of us and the kids inside,” Coryo finally reveals.

“Oh, you are sure to get lucky tonight, Mr. President,” Festus chuckles. “I wouldn’t be surprised if fourth little Coryo or Lucy Gray is conceived tonight.”

“Festus get the fuck out of my office and go work on your projects! They better on my desk for review by Monday!”

“Love you too, Coryo,” Festus laughs once more as he spins around to leave the Presidential office.

Coryo flicks Festus off.

“I know you are flicking me off, Coryo!” Coryo hears before the doors of his office close.

Coryo pinches the bridge of his nose and shakes his head.

Hours later, after dinner, Coryo and Lucy Gray walk hand in hand through the rose garden in the greenhouse of the Presidential Mansion. Lucy Gray wears a stunning red dress with slit on the right side revealing a soft tone leg. Sliver heels adorn her feet. A red rose elegantly graces her curly hair. The goddess of beauty if there ever was one.

“I have one last gift for you, my love,” Coryo whispers in Lucy Gray’s ear. He kisses the spot just behind her ear.

“Coryo, you given me enough already,” Lucy Gray smiles.

“I know, but I’ve been saving this present for this special day,” Coryo admits.

“So, what is that my loving husband has gotten me?” Lucy Gray giggles.

“Close your eyes,” Coryo instructs.

Lucy Gray closes her eyes. Just as Coryo reaches inside the jacket of his suit, Lucy Gray opens one of her eyes to get a sneak peek.

“Really, Lucy Gray. Please trust me, my darling.”

“Of course, I trust you. I just like teasing you. You’re so adorable when you get flushed.”

Coryo tilts his head and rolls his eyes.

“Okay, I’m closing my eyes. You can trust me.”

Coryo takes a small box out of his jacket. He opens the box revealing the glittering necklace.

“You can open your eyes now.”

Lucy Gray opens her eyes and sees the necklace.

“Oh. My. Goodness. Coryo, you didn’t.”

“I did, Lucy Gray. Anything for you.”

“It’s beautiful,” Lucy Gray says taking the necklace in her hands.

“Here, let me help you put it on.”

Coryo places the necklace around Lucy Gray’s neck.

“It’s perfect,” Lucy Gray states.

Coryo wraps his arms around Lucy Gray’s torso and lifts up the heart of the necklace. He flicks the locket open. Lucy Gray’s eyes widen as the sight of them and their children come to view.

“Coryo,” Lucy Gray gasps.

“You are my heart, Lucy Gray. You and the kids are my everything. My love for you eclipses the stars themselves. I am the luckiest man in the world because you are in my life. My life would be completely different without,” Coryo declares lovingly.

Lucy Gray turns around in Coryo’s arms to face him.

“Coryo, you mean everything to me too,” Lucy Gray says with joyful tears watering her eyes. “You, our children, the Covey, and Tigris are so precious to me. I love you with all my heart. I couldn’t ask for a better gift.”

She wraps her arms around Coryo’s neck and kisses him passionately. Coryo responds by returning the kiss and tightens his own arms around Lucy Gray. Their kisses bloom into a fire of love and desire. Coryo presses Lucy Gray against one of the greenhouse walls. A hand slips through the slit of Lucy Gray’s dress and finds her panties. He begins to rub her clit in circular motions.

“Coryo,” Lucy Gray breathlessly utters. She raises a leg and presses it against his crotch.

“Lucy Gray,” Coryo groans.

Their kisses intensify. Coryo can feel himself wanting her more and more. He continues rub Lucy Gray’s clit making her wet while Lucy Gray caresses his face and neck. Their lips are locked in a battle that moves back and forth for domination.

“I think we need to move this to the bedroom,” Coryo suggests.

“I think you are right,” Lucy Gray giggles.

They continue to kiss each other before slowly untangling themselves from each other. Coryo grabs her hand and guides her out of the rose garden. They pass several Peacekeepers who simply salute as they quickly walk by. Coryo better not hear gossip from them in the morning. Eventually, they reach their bedroom. Within a few minutes, their clothes are discarded, and they begin to explore each other’s bodies.

The next hour and a half is spent with nonstop love making.

By the time they fall asleep, Lucy Gray rests her head on top of Coryo’s heart, her arms draped across his torso. Coryo own arms wrap around Lucy Gray’s shoulders and the small of her back.

What a difference their lives have become since that fateful day of the reaping. Since that fateful day in the woods.

Notes:

So unlike That Fateful Day, Coryo tells Lucy Gray the truth after she questions him on who the third person that he killed instead of after she leaves to go find katniss roots and he attempts to find her in the woods.

I hope everyone had great Valentine's Day! I know Coryo and Lucy Gray did in this story.

As always anyone and everyone is welcome to comment!

Chapter 2: Chapter 2

Notes:

I want to thank HeartFlower for giving me the idea of a second chapter. It appears something did happen that night. Who is ready for Coriolanus Snow getting teased again?

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Seven weeks later on April 4th.

“It’s official. You are pregnant, Lucy Gray,” Lysistrata Vickers states with a smile.

“Really?” Lucy Gray asks. “I’m forty years old. I’ll be forty-one by the time I give birth.”

“Are you sure?” Coryo asks skeptically. He really did not expect this news. He thought that Lucy Gray was sick. She had been vomiting for the last week. She does not look a day over thirty, but he had thought she was getting to a point where pregnancy was very unlikely. They had their third child, a second son, five years ago. They have not planned on having a fourth, but here they are now.

“I’m the doctor here, Coryo. I delivered your first three children, so I think I know what I am saying when I say Lucy Gray is pregnant. Plus, if you look on the screen, you will see your fourth little one right there,” Lysistrata explains while scolding Coryo.

The tiny figure of their fourth child in Lucy Gray’s womb is displayed on the screen. He is going to forty-three years old when the child is born. He’ll he sixty-three when he or she turns twenty. He hopes it is a boy because if it is a girl, he is not going to have the patience to fend off all boys that try to seek her attention. Of course, they will all probably be very intimidated by his mere presence and would not be so foolish to try stupid shit on his younger daughter. They better not or else.

“Sorry Lyssie, I just didn’t expect this news,” Coryo apologizes. “We weren’t trying to conceive another child. Honestly, I thought Lucy Gray was sick.” He should have suspected something when Lucy Gray said she started feeling tired two weeks ago and the nausea and vomiting started last week.

Lysistrata smiles. “It’s okay, Coryo. That’s why I’m the doctor and you’re the president. Everything seems to be in order. Nothing to be concerned about for now. Perfect like the previous three.”

“Well, that’s good,” Lucy Gray says.

“It appears you are around seven weeks pregnant,” Lysistrata informs the couple.

“Oh wow. I cannot believe I’m pregnant for a fourth time,” Lucy Gray giggles.

“Me neither, darling,” Coryo says tenderly. Coryo slides onto the bed with Lucy Gray. He places his hands in hers and kisses her cheek. “You’ve been an incredible, loving mother. I’m sure our fourth child will love you very much as much as our first three.”

“I can say the same thing for you about being a father, Mr. President,” Lucy Gray teases as she playfully swats his nose.

“Um, let me go get a towel for you,” Lysistrata says awkwardly.

“If it is a boy, I want to name him Coriolanus Jr. It would be so cute, little Coryo Jr,” Lucy Gray says with serious sweetness.

“Absolutely not,” Coryo immediately responds. Having a literally smaller version of himself just seems weird.

“I’m joking, Coryo,” Lucy Gray laughs, putting a hand on his arm. “I really could not imagine naming it Lucy Gray if it is a girl. Seven weeks, huh. We have a long way to go don’t we?” Lucy Gray presses a kiss to his lips.

“Mmm, hmm,” Coryo responds and parts her lips with his. A battle of lips and tongues ensue for several seconds before the couple decides to cease their quick make out session before Lysistrata returns. Lucy Gray shifts so that a part her back lays against his chest while her head nuzzles his shoulder. Coryo entwines their fingers back together.

Seven weeks along. That means conception would have been in February. Around the middle of the-Oh shit! Valentine’s Day was seven weeks ago! They had an incredible time in bed that night. He really gave it to Lucy Gray that night. However, that is not the problem. Making love to Lucy Gray is never a problem. It is always a blessing and then some. The problem comes from hours earlier from that day. The conversation he had with Festus.

Festus is going to have a field day when he hears the announcement of Lucy Gray’s pregnancy, especially when he hears how far along Lucy Gray is. He can already see Festus calculating the approximate time that Lucy Gray would have gotten pregnant and conclude that conception would have been on Valentine’s Day. Coryo fights the urge to pinch the bride of his nose and groans miserably.

Lysistrata returns with a towel. “Well, you two have gotten comfortable. I should not be surprised,” Lysistrata laughs. She hands the towel to Coryo. Lucy Gray shifts to allow Coryo to wipe the gel off her abdomen. Lucy Gray smiles and kisses his cheek one last time, and then goes to get dressed.

“Your next checkup will be in six weeks. Should there be any complications or concerns just call me. This is the fourth time, so I am sure you remember most of the precautions, potential concerns, and expectations. Still, I will prescribe you some medicine to help with the nausea and vomiting” Lysistrata explains once Lucy Gray is dressed in her regular clothes. “Congratulations you two. I’m assuming an announcement will be made soon.”

“This weekend most likely,” Coryo nearly groans. Festus is going to have the biggest smile on his face when he hears the announcement. He is going to need a drink after Festus’ practically guaranteed antics after the announcement.

Two days after the national announcement of Lucy Gray’s fourth pregnancy, a party is throwed in the Presidential Mansion for Lucy Gray with the elite of Panem attending which includes many of Coryo’s childhood friends and former classmates. Of course, that means an appearance from a one Festus Creed.

“Oh congratulations, Lucy Gray! Who would have ever thought there would be a fourth child,” Festus chimes cheerfully like a child returning home from trick or treating on Halloween night.

For the briefest of moments, Coryo misses Dr. Gaul.

“Oh, thank you, Festus,” Lucy Gray says gracefully. “I certainly didn’t think I would be pregnant for a fourth time, yet a little one is on the way.”

“I guess I should offer congratulations to you too, Coryo. A father for the fourth time. Another little munchkin to run around here and stir up trouble,” Festus laughs.

“You mean when you help my son or daughter stir up trouble,” Coryo replies accusingly, narrowing his eyes.

“Well, someone has to spoil them and show them how to have fun. We all know strict Mr. President only has fun every five years, so who better to show them than Uncle Festus,” Festus smirks. He winks at Coryo.

Coryo rolls his eyes at Festus’ insinuation. “I know how to have fun, but being President of Panem limits the amount of fun I can have. I can assure you that I get my daily dose fun, Festus. You forget that Aurelius is five.”

“I’m sure you get your daily dose of fun. Anyway, seven weeks, huh,” Festus says nudging Coryo with an elbow.

Oh no, it is only seconds until Festus figures out what happened seven weeks ago.

“I assume that the ultrasound was Lucy Gray’s first for this time.”

“Yes.”

“I also assume that this is a result of the diamond and gold heart necklace you gave her on Valentine’s Day,” Festus says flatly.

“Yes-I mean, no. Just what are you getting at?” Is it too late to dig his own grave and bury himself?

“Don’t act like you’re stupid,” Festus whispers. “Valentine’s Day was seven weeks ago from Lucy Gray’s ultrasound. Come on, Coryo, we both know that you got some and apparently a lot at that. A gold and diamond heart locket necklace with a picture of the family inside. If that isn’t romantic, then I don’t know what is, my friend. However, you will need to update that picture once the baby arrives,” Festus laughs. “It’s good to know that our President is still swimming strong, I mean, going strong at forty-two years old.” Festus smirks devilishly before quickly disengaging from Coryo to evade his ire. He probably is going to search for Persephone somewhere in the party.

Smart man. Coryo sighs. Saying that he wants to smack Festus upside his head is an understatement.

Coryo feels two hands on his arm. He turns to see Lucy Gray look at him with a warm smile. She kisses his cheek. Then, she whispers in his ear, “It was a gorgeous necklace and a very romantic gesture, darling.” Lucy Gray switches to a very husky voice, “The sex was great too.” She kisses his cheek again before leaving his side and moves towards Tigris, Lysistrata, and Clemensia to talk to them.

Coryo stands there dumbfoundedly.

What…the…actual…fuck?!

Festus Fucking Creed somehow corrupted his wife! This time he pinches the bridge of his nose. The teasing seems to never end.

Notes:

I hope you enjoyed this chapter. As always, have a great day.
