Work Text:

Okay. Okay, Elliot...You can do this.

The Hologram Trickster, Elliot Witt, nervously paced back and forth, in front of an apartment complex.

Relax, Elliot. You're not doing anything crazy.

He halted his pacing, and looked at said complex.

You're just asking an angel, in human form, out on a date...Nothing...crazy.

Elliot's train of thought, froze, and he mulled over what he'd just told himself.

I just called her an angel...She IS an angel...Oh shit.

He nervously swallowed, as the gravity, of what he wanted to do, really began to set in.

Oh man...

A tsunami of self doubt washed over the trickster. Causing him to consider the option of making a run for it, while he still had a smidge of his dignity left.

No one will know, Elliot...NO ONE.

He began pacing, again.

"You can run, right now, Elliot...Right n-"

"Would you stop being a pussy, Witt!" A deep, gravelly, robotic voice shouted.

Elliot's eyes went wide, as he froze in his tracks.

He recognized the voice, and he desperately hoped against reality itself, that "he" wasn't actually somehow here.

"Up here, skinsuit!"

"He" was definitely here.

Why me?

Elliot slowly turned around, to face the edgy music.

He looked up, to the roof of the apartment complex, and saw the last Simulacrum, that he wanted to see, today.

It was Revenant, and he was plopped on his metal ass, casually swinging his legs back and forth.

Elliot internally groaned, at the sight, before letting out a tired sigh.

"Rev? What the hell are you even doing here?" He questioned in exasperation.

"I was actually on my way to Natalie's. I can assure you, that I wasn't even remotely in the mood, to watch you be pathetic, today. Yet, here we are."

Elliot's jaw dropped, over the insult.

GOD, he's such an asshole...How does Natalie even deal with him?

He shook his head, and pushed aside that thought.

"You know what, Rev?...Get lost." He sternly stated, with a dismissive wave of his hand.

The Simulacrum just mockingly cackled.

"I'll leave...only after you go in, and tell Ajay how you really feel."

Elliot frantically shook his head.

"I'm just here to ask Ajay, if she wants to go to brunch." He quickly responded.

The sim let out another cackle, at that.

"Brunch? At 3:30 in the afternoon?...Bullshit, Witt. ALL of us, already know how you feel about her. In fact, we've been placing bets, for when you'll ask Ajay out, for awhile now."

Elliot's face heated up.

DO THEY REALLY ALL KNOW?! WAS I THAT OBVIOUS?!

He frantically shook his head, and disregarded the sim's words.

Nope.

He wasn't about to mull over the potential, of EVERYONE talking behind his back, about his love interest.

No way.

"You're full of it, Rev." Elliot barked, before walking into the complex

Revenant just huffed in amusement, as he rose to his feet, and continued his journey to Natalie's.

Took him long enough.

-->>

Elliot slowly walked up a set of stairs, on shaky legs, and with an elevated heartbeat, to boot.

And I thought I was nervous for my first match.

He eventually stepped on a landing, that lead down a hallway, which he slowly followed.

He found the door of Ajay's apartment, and held his fist up.

...

...

...

All you gotta do is knock, Elliot.

He nodded his head, at that.

I just gotta knock.

...

...

It was definitely easier said than done, for a variety of reasons.

Elliot stared, long and hard, at the wooden door of Ajay's apartment.

It wasn't any different than the other doors down the hall. Yet it was.

It was different, because it was a shield, in a sense.

It guarded him from Ajay, and Ajay from him.

As long he didn't knock, she'd never know how he felt about her, and he'd never have to hear her reject him.

The door was a shield, for his ego.

A shield, for his heart.

Do I really wanna do this?

The answer was clear. Yet Elliot didn't wanna say it, out loud, or even internally consider it.

However.

He wanted something so much more, with Ajay, beyond being friends.

"I like her, right?" He mumbled to himself.

...

...

"Yes."

Elliot knocked and waited.

...

...

The seconds felt like hours.

He let out a tired sigh, after a certain point.

Ajay hadn't answered.

So, he knocked again.

If we're both lucky? She won't be here.

Elliot nodded, at that.

In his mind? Ajay deserved way better than him.

The sound of a doorknob turning, cut off any chance, of an internal self doubting tirade.

Elliot looked up, with wide eyes.

She's here?!

A wave made of half fear and excitement, washed over him.

Here we go.

The door gently opened.

"Elliot?" Ajay questioningly greeted.

...

...

The trickster couldn't find his voice.

He just stared, with wide eyes and an expression of surprise on his face.

"Elliot?" Ajay questioned, again, before snapping her fingers in his face.

That got him.

Elliot shook his head, and gave an awkward small smile.

"Hey, Ajay." He simply greeted.

The medic raised an eyebrow.

"What's on yah mind, Elliot?...You looked a little lost."

The trickster's eyes darted to the ground, before landing back on his friend's.

"I wasn't lost." He awkwardly responded.

The medic giggled.

"Yah were spacing out, after I answered." She replied with an amused smile.

"No I wasn't."

Ajay crossed her arms over her chest, smile still on her face.

"Whatever yah say, Elliot." She remarked, before leaning against the doorframe.

The trickster gently wrung his wrists.

So far, so crappy, Elliot.

The situation was going extremely poorly. Not that it had started on a positive note, in the first place.

Regardless.

Elliot could only accept what was, and try to do some damage control.

So? He started, with a quick glance at Ajay's appearance.

She was in a pair of dark blue sweats and a black cropped top Octane t-shirt.

Elliot chuckled, at that.

"Repping our resident, daredevil, are we?" He playfully questioned.

Ajay looked down at the shirt, before shrugging with a smile.

"Silva gave it to me for free. Told me it was a limited time item."

Elliot nodded, at that, with a small smile, before looking at Ajay's face.

He tilted his head in curiosity, over makeup, that she was already adorning.

Is she going out, already?

A fresh wave of doubt, washed over him, as he considered the possibility of being too late.

He would definitely be hurting pretty bad, if he found out that Ajay already had a boyfriend.

Surprisingly, though, that actually motivated him, to just get his question out and done with.

"Ajay...Can I ask you something?"

The medic shrugged.

"Of course."

Elliot nervously swallowed, as his nerves climbed to an astounding high.

...

Just ask!

"Will you go on a date with me?"

...

...

...

A blur.

That's what everything felt like, at the moment, for Elliot.

A blur.

He finally managed to pop his question, yet it didn't even feel real.

He found it hard to believe, that he managed to do it.

However, the one thing, or person, in this case, that kept him somewhat coherent, in the moment. Was none other than Ajay. Who had a rather surprised expression on her face.

What did you do, Elliot?!

He felt a swell of panic, rise within him, as he analyzed his friend's face.

I need to leave! NOW!

"Ajay, I'm so sorry...I don't know what came over me. I'm gonna head out, and let you keep getting ready for your date."

He quickly turned, and took a few steps, before a grip on his right wrist, stopped him.

Elliot cringed, at the sensation.

Oh man. I'm definitely in for it, now.

He turned, and decided to face his consequences. Albeit not entirely directly.

He decided not to look Ajay in the eyes.

"Like I said, I'm sor-"

A hand cupped over his mouth.

He looked up, over that, and saw that, one, Ajay had a small smile, on her face, and two, she was holding up her left index finger.

"Firstly, Elliot. To answer yah question?...Yes, I'll go on a date with yah."

WHAT?!

Ajay added her middle finger to her count.

"Secondly? All this?"

She gestured to her makeup, with her two fingers.

"I'm wearing it, because I was gonna catch a small live performance, at a restaurant, at 4:30. Which coincidentally, will work perfectly, for a date."

Ajay added her ring finger to her count.

"Lastly?"

She removed her hand from Elliot's mouth, to the side of his face.

She then got on her tip toes, and gave him a deep kiss, without warning.

...

...

...

SHE LIKES ME!?

Ajay pulled away.

"It's about damn time, yah asked." She mumbled, before another quick peck.

"Wait here. I'm gonna get dressed."

Elliot didn't budge. Not that he would've, even if he could move. Which he couldn't, at the moment.

His brain was nothing but mush. So, he was planted right where Ajay had told him to stand.

SHE LIKES ME!...ME!

Elliot couldn't believe it.

The sound of a door opening, cut off any chance of daydreaming, that he was gonna experience.

He looked at the doorway, and immediately clenched his teeth, so his jaw wouldn't fall off.

FUCK.

Even though Ajay didn't mean to. She was absolutely killing him, while he was still breathing.

She had chosen to wear a nice black jacket, with a dark blue t-shirt, a black skirt, and some pure white sneakers.

And, for some added flare, she had put on some silver hoop earrings.

As far her hair went?

She was sticking with her iconic buns.

"Y-you look nice." Elliot mumbled.

"Thanks." Ajay responded, with a smile, before she grabbed the trickster by the hand, and lead him down the hall.

"Let's go catch us a show!" She announced.
