Work Text:
Finn woke up and immediately felt awful, his throat hurt, his eyes felt glossed over, his nose was stuffy, and he felt like rocks had replaced his brain. Regardless, work had to be done, so Finn picked himself out of bed and walked over to his closet, he picked out a simple t-shirt, a pair of pants as well as Poe’s jacket.
Within his deliriousness, before putting the jacket on he wrapped his arms around the fabric and took in a deep breath, feeling calmed by the slight scent of Poe. Finn then covered his arms with the fabric and took a look in the mirror by the door to his room, no surprise, he looked awful. Taking one more deep breath he made his way out of his room to meet Rey for breakfast.
It had become a tradition that the two grew more and more into. Finn had become easily overwhelmed by all the food options after joining The Resistance so Rey would bring the two breakfast to her room and they would sit and talk. Finn enjoyed being taken care of and not having to think about what he was gonna eat for a meal, and Rey enjoyed doing something for someone else that was as simple as getting them breakfast. It healed a part of them that neither of them talked about but both knew was there.
“Hi, Finn!” Rey said looking up from her coffee, Finn stepped into the room and Rey's face filled with concern, “You look like you've been hit with a Jet-wing, you good?” Finn sat across from Rey at her small table, “I’m fine, things need to get done, right?” Despite Finn’s demeanor, the answer came out way more hopeful than Rey would have expected. “Okay, well, I brought you something new today,” Rey pushed the plate toward Finn. “It’s a Kessinnamon roll, I got them on my last mission and they won’t be good much longer,” Finn picked up the pastry and took a bite, trusting Rey in her choices. The kessinnamon roll was delicious despite it scratching more at Finn's throat.
After his first bite he laid his head on the table and hummed in amusement, “That,” he lifted his head to look at Rey, she was smiling, “Is amazing,” Rey laughed and took another sip of her coffee. “I’m glad,” Finn finished the pastry in record timing while the two discussed whatever came to mind. But Finn has never been a slacker, so the two had to part ways, Finn had a meeting to attend and Rey had some training.
Finn entered the room to see the usual people there, fancy higher-up people that he didn’t bother remembering the names of. The only reason he was in these meetings was because Poe wanted him to be there. For moral support or whatever else? He didn’t know, but Poe wanted him to be there, so he was going to.
The meeting began and Finn’s headache resulted in him not being able to understand any of it. As usual, Poe entered 5 minutes late with his usual swagger, except this time the smile on his face was replaced with a thin line. Poe scanned the room as the meeting continued as usual until he spotted Finn, Poe made a b-line for him, picked him up by his shoulder, and dragged him out of the room. “The hell do you think you’re doing?” Poe said as they exited the room, it wasn’t angry but more like ‘You're a moron Finn’. “Umm, what am I supposed to be doing?” Sweat pricked at Finn's collar as he realized they hadn’t stopped walking and Finn had no idea where Poe was taking him.
Poe stopped outside Finn’s room, “You’re sick,” Poe stated, “And?” Finn asked, “And you should be resting!” Finn crossed his arms, “Why?” The question sounded genuine and Poe's eyes softened before he scoffed, “To get better dumbass,” Poe put his hand on the back of Finn's shoulder and pushed him inside his room. Finn felt a wave of anxiety rush over him and he felt like his throat was going to close, he felt frozen. “Finn?” Poe grabbed his shoulder again, more gentle this time. “Buddy?” Poe walked around Finn to look him in the eye. “Kid?” Poe said, more concerned laced in his voice.
“I don’t get days off,” Finn said, Poe could hear the tears in his voice although there were no traces of them in Finn’s eyes. Finn could see Poe’s eyes grow wide, “Okay, hey, buddy,” Poe grabbed Finn’s arms and squeezed them lightly as a grounding technique they practiced. “Finn it's okay to take breaks, and it’s okay to not work when you’re sick,” Poe said in his most calming voice. Finn took in a shaky breath and started to nod, the tears finally surfacing and stinging his eyes.
“Finn?” Poe finally broke him out of it and Finn looked at Poe who barely whispered the words, “It’s okay,” Finn felt his breath hitch and he bit the inside of his cheek, Poe opened his arms to offer but gave Finn the choice to hug. Finn happily accepted, the two of them stood there for a long time, Finn letting silent tears run down his face and Poe rubbing his back and shushing him slightly. Eventually, the two broke apart and Poe led Finn to his bed.
Poe had disappeared to let Finn change into something less, as he said, “day-time-y”. Finn settled on a pair of shorts rather than the pants and the same black t-shirt he had on. As well as Poe’s jacket. “Alright I brought you something,” Poe said out of Finn’s View, well Poe made his appearance on the other side of the entry hall, and Finn saw he was carrying two mugs. “Okay so Rey told me you’re trying new foods so I thought you would be open to trying this,” Poe handed Finn a mug, “And if you don’t like that one then you can try this one,” Poe gestured to the other Mug.
“They're not alcoholic are they?” Finn only half-joked, Poe rolled his eyes. “No, it's called Tea and it should help with you being sick,” Finn nodded slightly. Now that he thought about it, he kind of liked being taken care of by Poe. Finn took a sip, pulled back, and shook his head. “Yeah, can't say I’m a fan,” Finn handed the mug to Poe who was now sitting at the edge of Finn’s bed. “That’s okay, try this one,” Poe handed him the other mug. Finn took a small sip and then nodded, “I like this one better,” Poe smiled, “Then it's yours,” Finn felt his face grow hot at Poe’s comment.
The two of them spent their time sipping from their respective mugs, Poe having no intention of returning to that meeting. “So,” Poe broke the silence, “What made this one worse?” Finn took in a deep breath, “I don’t know,” Poe got the hint that Finn didn’t want to talk about why his panic attack was so much worse and backed off, literally. Poe stood from the bed and moved the desk chair to sit next to Finn. But instead of sitting like a normal person, Poe just had to straddle the back of the chair. This made Finn's insides go all crazy, and not from his sickness.
“So,” Poe paused to take another sip of his tea before continuing, “You like my jacket?” Poe raised an eyebrow at Finn. This made both of them smile, “Yeah I guess,” Poe took another sip of tea, “Hmm, due tell?” Finn scoffed, unsure of what to say “I don’t know, it’s,” Fin paused pressing his lips together trying to find the words to describe how wearing Poe’s jacket makes him feel without being discovered. “Worn in,” Poe looked at Finn, eyebrows raised, “Worn. in.” he paused after each word. Finn just nodded.
Poe rolled his eyes at the taller boy, “Okay, and what about my ‘worn in’ jacket do you like so much,” Finn looked down at his tea, shaking his head. “I don’t know,” he meant to sound annoyed but when he did he was smiling. So it only made Poe want to push more, “Come on Finn! You wear it more than I did!” This made Finn’s stomach flip for no reason at all. “I guess it feels safe? Like when I'm in it nothing can get to me. Or nothing can hurt me because part of you is with me. I guess it's stupid, but it’s just nice to have part of you with me,” When Finn finished his ramble he looked over at Poe, who had the softest expression known to man on his face. Again, this made Finn’s stomach do crazy, incredible things.
“Finn,” Poe smiled at him, looking him in the eyes and only breaking away to look at his jacket. Poe reached over to grab the cuff of the jacket, Poe’s hand grazing Finn’s which sent electricity up Finn’s arm. “That is stupid,” Finn’s expression immediately changed and he took the pillow from behind him and threw it at Poe who dodged it. “But it’s also sweet!” Poe put up the hand that wasn’t holding his mug in surrender. “It’s really sweet,” he affirmed and Finn’s eyes softened.
The two of them sat there looking at each other for a long time, this time Poe’s gaze didn’t drift to his jacket but rather to the lower half of Finn's face. This made Finn’s insides go even crazier and his cheeks felt like he was right in front of a fire. Finn saw Poe swallow and lift himself off his chair to move it aside. Deciding to take a spot much closer to Finn on the bed. Poe grabbed Finn’s mug and moved it to the side table, placing it next to his own.
Poe then turned back to Finn Placing his hands on either of Finn’s cheeks, Finn instinctively brought his hands up to grab Poe’s wrists. Finn swallowed hard, “Is this okay?” Poe asked concern and hope intertwined in his voice. Finn opened his mouth to say something but felt his words get stuck in his throat. He was suddenly very grateful for that tea. Finn nodded, not moving his eyes away from Poe. Poe’s thumbs grazed Finn’s cheeks as eyes wandered one another, asking, waiting, hoping for the other to say please.
“Hey guys,” Rey said as she walked through the door, making quite the racket with whatever she had brought back from training. Poe quickly broke his gaze and took his hand off Finn’s face who greatly missed the warmth it brought him. “Hi Rey,” Poe said, a little disappointed as she walked into view. Finn had hoped the two boys looked inconspicuous as if they were just having a conversation. “My everything hurts now, and Leia needs to speak to you Poe, so you might wanna get down there,” Poe looked back at Finn who was already looking at Poe, and nodded. “Yeah I'll go now,” Poe stood, taking his mug of tea with him. Rey broke Finn out of his daze, “And you need rest,” Rey looked at Finn, eyes like a mother lecturing her child. “I’ll bring you dinner, okay? But for now, sleep,”
Finn only nodded at her before she turned to leave and he heard the click of his lights being turned off. He picked up his mug and took a sip from it only to realize its contents was no longer hot. He then wondered how long had he and Poe just stared at each other. Had it been mere seconds like it felt? Or was it longer than that? Minutes or hours even? Finn decided that he didn’t like that Poe was able to alter the passage of time, but overall decided not to think about it too much. He turned over in his bed only to realize his pillow was still on the floor from when he threw it at Poe. He sighed, denied his need for a pillow, and fell asleep with part of his blanket under his head.
When Finn awoke he smelt food. Rey must have dropped something off a little bit ago, however, he found it odd that she didn’t wake him up to eat. He turned over in his bed now realizing his pillow had replaced the balled-up blanket under his head. Finn then received an even bigger shock when he saw Poe Dameron sitting at his desk reading a book. Finn's face flushed at the sight, Poe looked so peaceful sitting at his desk chair with his desk lamp on.
Finn took in a deep breath, “Poe?” his voice came out tired and horse, but he honestly didn’t care. Poe looked at him when he said Poe’s name, a smile growing on the boy's face. “Hey kid, how ya feeling?” Poe stood from the chair and brought a plate over to Finn. Finn shrugged to answer Poe's question and was now infatuated with what was on the plate. “This looks incredible!” he exclaimed, Poe's face lit up, “Good I made it myself,” Poe set the plate in Finn's lap after Finn adjusted to sit up in bed.
After digging in, Finn had decided Poe’s cooking was his favorite. The plate had some sort of meat that was packed with seasoning and flavor, as well as some green vegetables that looked like little trees as well as some form of potato. Finn had never had potatoes like this but he decided that it was his new favorite. “I didn’t know you knew how to cook?” Finn said in between bites, “Yeah, well,” Poe paused and just looked at Finn with a smile on his face, this sent chills through Finn’s body.
“If everyone here knew I could cook this well I would be in the kitchen and not a pilot,” Finn laughed at that, shoving another tiny tree into his mouth. The two sat in silence, Finn enjoying his meal and not minding Poe's eyes on him as he did so. By the time Finn went to set his plate on his bedside table, Poe’s eyes had drifted shut. Finn smiled at the sight, letting his mind drift as he began to run his fingers through Poe's hair. Finn felt Poe lean into the gesture and hum as he did so, “That’s nice,” Poe whispered, Finn could tell he was smiling when he said it by the way the words left his lips.
Finn got a wild idea in his head, his face growing hot at the thought fully formed and left his lips. “What?” Poe’s eyes shot open and looked directly into Finns. “Do- Do you want to sleep in my bed tonight?” Finn repeated, a little more hesitant than the first time. Poe just stared back at him, eyes wide, features blank. “I’m sorry, it was dumb, but feel free to go back to your room if you-” Finn was cut off by Poe going to untie and remove his boots, then he climbed under the covers with Finn. Finn moved slightly towards the wall so the two would fit. Poe immediately set his head on the pillow and closed his eyes, sighing as he did so.
Finn looked at the man who now inhabited half his bed wide-eyed, he swallowed trying not to let the heat from his face drift down his body… It didn’t work. Because Finn only had one pillow, Poe and him had to share, and this ended up with the two of them basically touching foreheads. Finn felt one of Poe's arms shift under the blankets and reach up to caress Finn's cheek. “Buddy, relax,” Poe opened his eyes after he said it and telepathically instructed Finn to focus on his breathing. Together the two of them closed their eyes and took a deep breath. Finally, Finn’s mind wasn't as tangled.
Then Poe started to hum, which caught Finn completely off guard. He opened his eyes to find Poe grinning ear to ear with his eyes still closed, hand still on Finn’s cheek. “What are you?” Finn began, Poe then opened his eyes and began singing through giggles.
“Till the ends of the earth will you follow me?”
Poe giggled like a drunk man, “Lord Huron? Really?” Finn smiled lovingly, his ears filling with the sound of Poe’s laughs. “Anyday, everyday,” Poe said, still smiling. Finn rolled his eyes as Poe continued to sing.
“There's a world that was meant for our eyes to see
To the ends of the earth, would you follow me?
Well if you won't, I must say my goodbyes to thee
Ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh”
By the “ooh”s Finn was getting fed up with Poe, “Will you be quiet? I'm trying to sleep,” Finn said, although still smiling. Poe didn’t stop, in fact he began to sing louder. This is when Finn placed a firm hand over Poe's mouth to muffle the lyrics. “I'm serious Poe!” Finn tried to sound serious, but failed to suppress laughter, “Poe! Come on!” Poe continued to sing and laugh.
“Oh, there's an island where all things are silent
I'm gonna whistle a tune
Oh, there's a desert that size can't be measured
I'm gonna count all the dunes”
Finn sighed and pressed another hand over Poe's mouth, “Poe please!” Finn practically begged, “Please shut up!” Poe stopped singing although failed to suppress his laughter. Just before Finn removed his hands from Poe's mouth, Poe took Finn’s hands in his own and pressed them into Poe’s cheeks. “What?” Finn then felt Poe remove his hands from Finn’s and place them on Finn's cheeks, slowly running his thumb over Finn’s cheek bone.
Finn had just realized that Poe was no longer laughing but instead staring into Finn’s eyes, an intention he has never seen before was buried deep in them. Finn’s breath hitched but he did not remove his hands, instead brown eyes stared into each other and became one. Poe opened his mouth to say something but before he could get any word out Finn had already uttered “Yes”. Finn could barely tell that Poe had smiled before lips collided just as their eyes melted into one.
Poe’s lips, just like his hands, were warm and soft, just as Finn had imagined. Finn shuttered when one of Poe’s hands ever so subtly drifted to the back of his neck to deepen the kiss. Finn felt the urge to do the same but was left with a fist full on Poe’s hair, he tugged slightly and received a pleased grunt out of Poe. Poe's other hand drifted around Finn's waist to pull the two closer. When Poe did this Finn drew in a breath that caused him to pull away. Poe’s eyes went wide, “Everything okay?” he said quickly.
Once again brown eyes stared into each other and Finn just nodded, Poe leaded in but before he could connect their lips Finn stopped him. “You're gonna get sick,” Finn pouted. Poe shrugged, “I was probably gonna get sick from sharing tea with you,” Finn rolled his eyes at Poe. “Dummie,” Poe smiled, “Only for you,” Finn took a calming breath before connecting their lips again. Finn’s hands were now clutching to the front of Poe’s shirt and Poe had both hands on Finn's waist. Their lips connected perfectly into one another and Finn loved the new found warmth that invited itself into his chest and spread throughout his body.
In one swift move, Poe had managed to get on top of Finn, removing his hands from Finn’s waist and placing them on either side of Finn's head. Poe slowly opened his mouth to let his tongue lick at Finn’s lips, sending electricity through Finn’s body. Finn quickly obliged to the invitation and opened his mouth letting Poe take the lead in tangling their mouths together. Finn let out a grunt when Poe lightly bit the bottom of Finn's lip and began breathing heavily when Poe pulled away.
Poe smirked down at Finn who had ended up wrapping his legs around Poe’s mid section. Poe licked his lips, “You okay there buddy?” Finn nodded slowly before removing his legs and hands from Poe. “Sorry,” Fin said sheepishly. Poe hummed, “No need,” Poe dropped his lips to Finn’s jaw letting the younger boy scramble trying to figure out where he's supposed to put his hands. “I think it’s cute,” Poe said between kisses to Finn’s jaw.
Poe placed a knee between Finn's legs which made the younger shiver. Finn settled on placing his hands behind Poe’s neck while the latter peppered Finn’s jaw and neck with kisses that grew hungrier as they continued. “Poe-” Finn squeaked, Poe hummed to let Finn know he had heard but was much too interested in the project that was Finn’s neck. Finn’s breath hitched one more when he felt Poe drag his teeth against Finn's skin. “What are you-,” Poe twisted his head a little to be right behind Finn’s ear, he whispered, “I love you, Finn. Please, let me show you”.
Poe's voice was like kryptonite to Finn, because when he looked in the mirror to a dozen purple marks all over his neck and chest. Poe had left early that morning to go to a meeting, long before Finn had woken up. Finn tried everything but nothing seemed to get the marks to go away, as Finn was about to try burning the marks off Rey stepped into his room. “Hi Fi- holy shit… who gave you those hickeys! And what the hell are you doing?”
Finn then proceeded to have a long talk with Rey about hickeys. Inevitably, they decided that they needed someone who was more qualified to educate not only Finn, but also Rey on the matter. That's how they got into this situation. “I am not teaching either of you what a hickey is,” Poe said firmly. Both Finn and Rey had made their way over to Poe's room, Finn not feeling so sick anymore (Sick days really were magic). “I mean I get her,” Finn started, “but why not me! You’re the one who gave me all of these!” Finn tugged at his shirt to reveal the love bites. “WAIT!” Rey interrupted, “That was from Poe!” Rey looked between the boys, “That is fowl Poe,” Rey scoffed at the older boy.
Poe rolled his eyes, “No I'm not teaching either of you because Rey is like a sister to me,” Rey shoved Poe in the arm. Poe then muttered something about Finn, but neither of the jedi-in-training could hear, “Could you say that louder?” Finn said, guessing if what he had heard is what Poe was actually implying Poe sighed and finally turned towards the two and away from his laundry. “Because you’ll definitely use it against me!” Poe directed the explanation at Finn. “I’m sorry for getting carried away, but I am not teaching you how to give a hickey,” Poe turned back to his laundry.
Finn and Rey looked at each other before giving eachother a knowing look. “Fine Dameron,” and that was all Rey said before she left. Finn then approached Poe and slowly glided his hands along Poe’s hips to land around his stomach. Finn felt Poe’s breathing stop, “Fine,” Finn whispered in Poe’s ear, “I guess I’ll just need a lot of practice then”.
The next day Rey passed Poe wearing a turtleneck in the hallway.
