Chapter Text

Volt was the average naval aviator, Who flew with their best friend, named Percy. The two have been best friends since they joined the navy. Which was about 5 years ago today. Which may seem like a long time, but in reality they’re both about to start living their dream job. 

 “Hey Volt, we got One MIG on the radio” the RIO officer said.

‘Copy that! How far away are they?” Asked Vast.

“ About 350 miles south” Said the RIO

“Copy that! So do you wanna do this, Percy?”Volt asked.

“Hell yeah, let’s get these lost souls,” Percy joked.

“How are you feeling about this? Tisah and bit?” Volt asked

“Hell yeah let’s go! We can go first just in case they aren’t alone!”Tisah said.

Volt instantly turned south, Speeding up slightly , but increasing altitude so then they could intervene if needed.

“Volt there not alone-“ Tisah said slightly panicked, “there’s two MIGS! What do you wanna do?” 

“Whatever you do, don't fire, unless fired upon. The commander instructed.

“Copy that, do you just wanna scare them?”Volt asked.

“I don’t know nor do I care but one of these guys is on my ass!” Tisah yelled.

“Copy that, we’ll just act like we are gonna shoot but we won’t!” Volt said looking at Percy looking for confirmation, Percy gave them a little head nod.

“Okay just hurry” Tisah yelled.

“How far away are they from the ship?” The commander asked.

 “About 250 miles away from the ship, sir!” The RIO said.

“ Alright if they get to 200 get them out of here!” The commander instructed.

“Okay, Tisah I'm right behind you I need you move more to the right, so then I can get a target on them and scare them” Volt said quickly focusing on getting the target locked in.

It was locked in.

The MIG started panicking, and left. “Nice one Volt, he’s chickening out and heading home.” Percy said

Suddenly MIG 2 went right behind Tisah and bit.

“Tisah he's got a missile locked on us!” Yelled Bit, “We gotta get out of here!”

“Where the hell is this guy?” Yelled Tisah, “Shit… He's got us, Do I have permission to fire?”

“Do not fire unless fired upon” yelled the commander.

Volt was right over them,If the guy had not fired yet then he was just trying to piss them off.

“He’s not gonna fire, he just wants to piss us off!” Volt yelled, while going over the MIG, and turning upside down and giving the MIG the bird (the middle finger).

Percy grabbed the camera, “oop, watch the birdy. You know we should frame these pictures in our lockers or put them in a binder called ‘fuck off, birdies’” Percy joked, volt couldn’t help but laugh as the last MIG left.

“Hey volt we’re running low on fuel we should head back to the carrier.” Percy said, Volt nodded in agreement.

“Alright we’ve had enough fun for today we should all head back.” Volt said, turning the jet towards where the carrier was.

“Yeah that's a good Idea, Tisah we are also running low.” Bit said. “Tisah? We don't have the fuel for this, we have to land?” It said,Voice raising slightly.

“Tisah? Everything okay?” Volt asked. Tisah didn't answer, all that Volt could hear was heavy breathing.  “Bit? What's going on over there?” Volt asked, Pulling up slightly, “I'm not sure,I think he's in shock. He's not responding to anything I'm saying.”Bit said, their voice rising with every word.

“Dammit, I'm helping them!” Volt yelled, Volt pulled the jet high before they could land.

“Volt we don't have the fuel for this!” Percy yelled, while grabbing on to something because of how hard the G’s were for a second before Volt leveled out the jet, Right next to Tisah and bits jet, “Hey! Tisah looked at me!” Volt yelled, Tisah looked at them. “We're gonna do this together, Okay? We're gonna land together. Just stay on my wing and you'll be okay. '' Volt looked at Tisah, “O-Okay- '' Tisah said, his voice shaking. Their jet was rocking back and forth, but the carrier was on site. And that all that mattered.

Tisah was still too low for volts comfort, “Tisah your too low pull up?” Volt yelled. Tisah didnt pull up but they still landed, thank god.

Volt and percy are waiting outside of the commander's office, They heard Tisah yelling He was Yelling out of fear, “I QUIT- I can't do this anymore”, The door abruptly opened and Tisah stormed out, but stopped as soon as he saw Volt and percy, and whispered a quiet “Thank you”, while smiling at the two aviators, then walking to the lockers probably to clean out his locker.

“VOLT! PERCY! GET YOUR ASS’S IN HERE!” The commander yelled, he didn’t sound mad, but he did sound irritated. 

Both volt and percy ran inside, “As much as I don't wanna do this, you both have been selected for an elite program Top gun. I mean the best of the best pilots are selected for this program. Even then you are just a pilot until you're actually chosen for your name on the plaque.” The commander explained, They both nodded, “ I want you both on your way to Miramar California. You're both dismissed.” The commander said while trying to hide a smile.

Later that day

Percy opened the door to his and Dawn's and Reyna’s apartment, “Hey love!” Dawn yelled from the kitchen, Percy instantly smiled while quickly walking to the kitchen. “Hi hun! How was your day?” They said while twirling dawn and giving it a quick hug and kiss. Slightly shocked and percy action but widely smiled, “Much better now that you’re home.” Dawn said it’s voice was warm and loving as always.

“Well I'm glad to hear you had a good day because I have some good news and not so good news.” percy said trying to sound optimistic.

 Dawn's smile faltered for a second, and then it turned anxious, Percy could tell in an instant. They hate making Dawn anxious, it wasn't fair to it. “Oh- o-okay? What is it?” Dawn asked.

 “Uhmm, I kinda got a promotion to join an elite group of pilots with volt but the thing is… that i have to leave again for a few months; more like two but still.” Percy said kinda word-vomiting it. 

Dawn's face softened but their anxiety didn’t leave, “Percy, that's amazing! But you said that there was bad news with it?” Dawn asked, Its voice rising slightly nervously. Percy nodded while grabbing its hands, “I have to leave for Miramar, California, for at least 3-4 months.” Percy said sadly.

“What?” Reyna was devastated,Percy and Dawn immediately turned around.

“Rey…” Percy squeaked out.

“You’re  leaving again?” Reyna asked, she was looking at the ground.

He sighed, “How about this, why don't we all sit on the couch and talk about this?” Percy gestured. Reyna nodded and went to go sit on the couch, Dawn did as well but sat right next to Percy.

Percy took a deep breath, “Okay here’s what’s going on, I was offered a promotion? Schooling? I don’t know what it’s called but me and Volt were offered a spot at probably the most prestigious training a pilot can get. But it’s 3-4 Months worth of training, and it’s at Miramar, California.” He explained.

“So we’re moving? During my senior year?” Reyna asked.

“No, there’s no point in moving for 4 months. Besides, there will be weekends where I am able to visit so then you both don’t have to leave school and work.” Percy explained.

“Okay… but what’s the training; you never really said what it was?” Dawn asked

“It weapons and tactics-“

“I’m sorry, but you're gonna get shot at?” Dawn asked, its voice scared… Terrified even.

Percy started laughing, “ no love- well maybe if we go on a mission. But no, it’s just training.”

Dawn sighed out of relief, “Just… I’m sure you wanna do this just… be safe… please.”

Percy gave it a loving grin, “ I made that promise to myself on our first date.”he said admitting that, was probably really cheesy but it was true.

Dawn snickered, “Good, and you better not break it.”

Percy smiled, “I promise.”

Percy turned to  Reyna after their lil gay moment.

“So what do you think about all of this, Rey?” Percy asked, looking at her. He hated making her worried.

“Well I think that it's really cool, Just as long as you promise we are allowed to visit?” Reyna asked. Percy nodded, “Yup there are some weekends you can visit and I can come visit too on my down time.”

“Okay.. Just be safe please… I don't know what I'd do without your bird brain.” Reyna said lightly punching Percy's shoulder.

He laughed, “ I'm not going anywhere… Chicken little?”

Reyna started wheezing, “ CHICKEN LITTLE?”

“I DON'T KNOW-” Percy yelled while laughing.

“Hun, you need to work on your comebacks… Because- That was rough, love.” Dawn said in between wheezes.

As the laughter died down, Percy looked at Dawn and Reyna. Those two were their everything. 

“Movie night?” Percy asked. “Movie night” His boyfriend and sister agreed.

Chapter Text

Percy and volt were two months into the program… and boy was it not easy. But Volt was doing awesome at flying. Did they do some dumb shit… yeah but to be fair when didn’t they?

The two were walking back to their barracks, they were exhausted.  when the gate police walked toward them.

“Perseus, you have some people that want to see you.” Their voices were stern but they were smiling, he could tell.

Percy smiled, “Thank you!”Percy started running to where the families are able to meet.

After running across the base, he finally saw Reyna and Dawn.

My family.

He ran to them, and gave the both a bear hug, “HI! Hi!” Percy said while squeezing the bejesus out of them.

“HI! Bird brain!” Reyna said while also giving her brother a bear hug, “I missed you..” She said quietly.

“I missed you both so much-” he said while letting go, Dawn pulled Percy into a kiss, “mm, and I missed doing that with you.” He said to dawn. It giggled, Reyna made a pretend gagging sound, “ Ew… you're gay” She said jokingly.

He chuckled and said, “ Yeah and what about it? You got a problem with that?” He joked.

Reyna's eyes went wide, “No- I didn't mean it like that-”, As soon as percy started laughing she knew it was fine, she knew he was joking. She missed this.

“C'mon, Let’s sit.” Percy said while gesturing to them to sit. He was happy, just to have the two most important people to him right in front of him.

“So… Graduation? How are you feeling about that?” Percy asked.

Reyna paused,she was so ready to tell them that she was excited but now that she thought about it she had no idea what she wanted to do after highschool.

“I’m excited! but I have no idea what I wanna do.”Reyna said honestly, Percy nodded, “That makes sense. A LOT of people don't know what they wanna do. That's okay.” Reyna nodded, she didn't really know what else to say. Percy instantly noticed this and changed the subject.

“So.. I'm gonna be off duty for like two hours. Would you guys like to go get dinner together?” Percy asked. Both Reyna and Dawn smiled.  “ I think that's a wonderful idea!” Said dawn.

“Gods… I’ve missed you two.” Percy said again with a content smile on his face. He was just glad to see their family together again. That's all he had ever asked for.

“Awhh You missed us? You big softie!” Reyna teased, Percy rolled their eyes in fake annoyance.

Two Hours  had finally passed and Percy was officially off duty. He was happy to spend time with his family. It had been so long since he had last seen the two of them. He figured that he probably should text Dawn that he’s off duty.

Percy: Hey, I'm off duty. Are you two ready to go to the restaurant?

Dawn:  Yeah! Just send us the address and well pick you up and go!

Percy: Okay! Sound good its 34567 Bird Lane.

Dawn: Okay, we'll be there in 10 minutes.

Percy: Sounds good!

Percy looked at Volt, “Are you sure you don't wanna come with us?” They asked, Volt shook their head, “No, I don't wanna intrude on family time. Besides, I see those two all of the time.”

Percy laughed, “First of all you don't intrude on family time, you are family. And don’t tell Reyna I said this but you're like a brother to her.” Volt smirked, “Well I guess I'm taking away your ‘brother’ title.” They joked.

Percy rolled their eyes at Volt.

“Sooo…” Volt started to say, “No I haven’t told Reyna that I plan on proposing to dawn yet..” Percy said, trying not to blush. “I'm gonna tell her…soon… I planned a whole day for me and Reyna while They're here. The scariest part about that day is gonna be Training Reyna to fly a beginners plane. When we get out of this training.” Percy said, while laughing about the last part.

Volt's eyes widened in horror, “You might wanna write your will before you leave to teach Reyna how to fly a plane. God, even Reyna driving is scary enough. We’re getting too old if you're training Reyna how to fly a plane.” Volt jokes.Percy chuckled a little bit, and shook their head. “You sound like reyna… First of all, you're the oldest out of the two of us! And secondly we are not even that old, we are in our twenties.”

“Reyna would beg to differ.” Volt said jokingly, Percy rolled their eyes at them.

They left their barracks (bedroom) and They both thought that everything was gonna go as planned. Reyna graduates, then Volt and Percy graduate from Top Gun, and maybe Percy asks Dawn a very important question…

What they didn’t know is that this would be the last month before everything changed…

Because nothing flies without falling.

The night went well.They all caught up, Laughed,and sang some karaoke. It was perfect. They were a family again. Everything was perfect. It was right at the end,Percy  nudged Reyna to follow him outside. The Karaoke Bar was right by the ocean, they had this little outside deck area with hanging lights. It was a beautiful view, Percy leaned up against the fence of the deck while looking towards the ocean.

Reyna gave Percy a nervous look, “What’s up?”.Percy sighed slightly, he seemed nervous,which was worrying for Reyna. Because Percy was rarely ever nervous. and said, “I wanted to ask you something. I want your opinion on something.” Reyna nodded, “okay… what is it?” Her own voice betrayed her by cracking slightly. 

Percy looked back at her,slightly smiling,to calm Reyna’s nerves. “I want to propose to Dawn… At some point. Maybe after I’m done with my training. And I want your opinion… on everything. The ring, The wedding, Everything. Would you take it as your brother in law?”,He asked. Reyna smiled, “Of course,Percy. I love Dawn. It’s practically family already!” Her voice was light,Genuine. Percy smiled, A type of smile that was only reserved for Dawn. A smile full of love,excitement, and something else Reyna couldn’t quite place. “Thank you! Now, I know you are good at secrets.At least when you’re not lying to me about it. So please keep this hidden until I tell you what the next steps are, okay?” Percy asked. Reyna gave a simple nod.

Percy cleared their throat. He opened their mouth to say something but hesitated for a moment before saying, “Um, I also wanted to ask what you wanted for your graduation?” Reyna laughed awkwardly. She was still getting used to the attention and things being about her. Since leaving with Percy from their parents house. Percy gave her a look, a slight hint of concern in their eyes. Reyna looked down at the ground and said, “I’m not sure…” Percy nodded and smirked slightly. Reyna instantly saw their face, “What? Why are you making that face?” Reyna asked. Percy stifled a laugh, “Well… I was gonna ask you when we got closer to your graduation and birthday. But since I’m feeling nice, I’ll tell you. If you're up for it, When you turn 18, I would like to take you out to a piloting school,and teach you the basics of flying a small beginners plane?” Reyna’s mouth fell open. She looked like a fish for a couple of seconds,before saying, “Are you serious?”Percy nodded with a smile, “I’m dead serious,Rey.” Reyna Ran up and hugged them tightly. Percy laughed, hugging her just as tight, His chin resting on the top of Reyna’s head. “Don’t get too excited, we still have a month left before anything happens, You still have to graduate, and I still have a month of training left.” He said, chuckling slightly.

”Oh Come on! I’m graduating and you’re almost done. We have 30 days, What could happen?” Reyna said confidently.

A few days passed and Reyna and Dawn had to go back home. Percy fortunately was able to bring them to the airport to say goodbye. The three of them got out of their rental car, Percy immediately grabbed the two’s luggage out of the trunk of the car. 

He gave the two a look. He didn’t wanna say goodbye, he wanted them to stay,but Reyna had school and Dawn had to work at the birdkery. He gave the two a hug. A tight one, “You two stay safe and take care of each other, Yeah?” He said, their voice full of emotion. Dawn laughed slightly, “You too, Please be safe and don’t do anything dumb, I love you.” Percy laughed slightly, his throat choked with emotion. “Of course, I promise. I love you more. ”, He let go of dawn slightly. Percy looked at Reyna now, her eyes slightly glossy, but still content. He opened their arms to her, and she quickly went to hug them tightly. “I love you, Rey.” Percy whispered. “I love you too, bird brain. Don’t forget, I will be patiently waiting for my turn to be a pilot.” She joked, though her voice was wet with emotion. Percy snickered, “Of course not, I promised.”. With a content sigh, Reyna released the hug.

Percy looked between Reyna and Dawn. A small smile, “ I'll see you too in a month?”, “In a month.” They both said, while grabbing their luggage.Percy gave them a nod and both another quick hug. “Call when you land?”, “Of course, bird brain!” Reyna said. Percy laughed, “Alright, you both should go before you're late for your flight. Goodbye you two! I'll see you in a month.” “Goodbye Percy.” They both said before Turning to leave.

Percy watched the two before he lost them in the crowded airport. He sighed, Not knowing what to do with himself now.

I should really look for an engagement ring now.
