How Many More Minutes?

Summary:

Mango, Mittens, Patch, and Spot all find fun things to do while waiting for Papa's Paleteria to open. Based off a Charlie and Lola episode from season 2. (#4LFW15)

Notes:

First fanwork based off a Charlie and Lola episode. Specifically, season 2 episode 4, How Many More Minutes, the episode where Charlie and Lola had to wait in the waiting room while it was mom's turn at the dentist, released on May 6, 2006. That episode came out 9 days before I turned 6. This show was my childhood, I kept on watching it even at age 12 before I grew out of it. It's such a fun series to look back at. Enjoy this Lalaloopsified version taking place somewhere much more fun!

Work Text:

Patch Treasurechest and Mango Tiki Wiki were both sitting in the latter's island home, watching the Rock Paper Scissors episode "Weekend Story" where the pirate adventure was going on, until a magnet was shown in front of their faces. It turns out the magnet was shown from a fishing pole to them by Spot Splatter Splash. "Wanna play Sticky Fish with me, Patch and Mango?" Spot asked. "Not now, Spot, we're watching Rock Paper Scissors," Patch answered. Spot squeezed into the couch Patch and Mango were watching their show on. "How many more minutes is it?" Spot asked, wanting to play soon. "About 20 minutes," Mango answered. "How long is 20?" Spot asked as Patch and Mango shushed her. "Spot, you know pirate adventures interest the both of us which is why we decided to watch this together. Just wait a little bit longer then we can play," Patch answered.

Spot ran off to another area of the island home to play with some toy cars, toy trains, blocks and marbles. "Ready, Patch and Mango? It's a very good game. You have to catch as many things with this magnet, and then you put them in the bucket," Spot explained out loud as she showed how the game worked. "Like that," Spot said as she fished a red toy car and put it in the bucket. "Come on, Patch, Mango," Spot called out. "In a minute," Patch answered. Patch then turned the volume up on their show they were watching. Patch and Mango took a closer look at their TV program until the TV screen went to static and turned off on them. It turns out Mittens Fluff 'N' Stuff did so. "Mittens, it's nearly finished! Do we have to go?" Patch asked. "Yep, we have to wait for Papa's Paleteria," Mittens answered. "Oh, I've been wanting to go to that new place for a while!" Patch said.

Spot was still marble fishing with her magnet. "Spot?" Mango asked, opening the door of the room Spot's playing in. "Shh, Mango, I'm marble fishing," Spot answered. "Come on, Mittens said we have to go wait for Papa's Paleteria, and we have to go right now," Mango told Spot. "In a minute, Mango. I've just got to fish this train into the bucket!" Spot said as she fished a green toy train with the magnet and tried to lift it into the bucket. "Sorry, Spot, but Mittens said we have to go now," Mango said as she took the train off the magnet. "We can't go now, I'm playing something else. And we already went to San Fresco Wharf last week only to find out the game's in final playtesting," Spot said. "I know, but today's the opening day of Papa's Paleteria," Mango said in response.

Mango, Mittens, Patch, and Spot all arrived at San Fresco Wharf, the future home of Papa's Paleteria, at 2:30 PM. The four were camping outside the entrance of a soon to open Papa's restaurant. "I heard Liezel, the worker there, said it won't be too long until this new place opens," Patch said. Spot saw the pool just downstairs from the soon to open restaurant and quickly changed into her bathing suit at a nearby changing station. "How many more minutes until this place opens?" Spot asked. "I don't know," Mango answered. "Do minutes take longer when you're not doing anything? Wait, I just changed. How about we play hide and seek at this pool nearby?" Spot asked. "Okay, we can all change," Mango said as the other three went one by one to the changing station to change to their swimming outfits.

The four all went to the pool nearby the soon to be open Papa's Paleteria, and Spot covered her eyes as Mango, Mittens, and Patch all hid in three random areas around the pool. "One, two, eight, no, ten! Coming! Ready or not!" Spot shouted out loud as she swam around the pool to look for Mango, Mittens, and Patch. Turns out the three were under the water in their scuba gear so they can breathe easily while hiding for extended periods of time. "Found you, and you, and you!" Spot said as she spotted the three hiding under the water. "And Liezel said you three shouldn't stay under the water for way too long," Spot told the three as they popped back out of the water.

15 minutes passed, making it 2:45 PM. "Spot, I dare you to go and ask Liezel, the worker setting things up, if she has any free paletas to give us," Patch told Spot. "All right," Spot said as she got out of the pool, dried up, and went and asked as Patch snickered to himself. Spot came out with four free paletas, one mostly blue, one mostly yellow, one mostly orange and one mostly pink one. "I did it, I did it. You go ask now," Spot told Patch as she showed off the two paletas she was given. "I'm not gonna do it," Patch said. "I did it, so you three have to go and do it too. Go on. You can go first, Mango," Spot told the three Lalaloopsies who were waiting with her. "Okay," Mango said as she went there while Spot was holding her four paletas she got. Mango arrived back with nothing in her hands. "Liezel said no to me," Mango told Spot. Spot handed Mango her pink paleta, Mittens her blue paleta, and Patch her orange paleta she got. "Hmm, what should we do with them? Eat them?" Spot asked. The four ate their paletas and sighed happily.

15 more minutes passed, making it 3 PM. Spot saw a watercooler installed outside of Papa's Paleteria, pressed the thing to dispense the water and giggled at the bubbles that came up inside the giant ten gallon water bottle. Mango, Mittens and Patch were getting ready to go back in the pool nearby Papa's Paleteria until they noticed Spot filling up several cups of water at the watercooler. "Spot, I wouldn't do that if I were you. Liezel won't like it," Mittens told Spot who was filling up those water cups. "Why not?" Spot asked, as it's revealed she filled up 26 water cups and scattered them all around the floor. "Because she won't," Mittens answered. Spot filled a 27th cup of water, then went behind the ten gallon water bottle to move her face around as the three laughed at the funny faces she was making. "Do it again, Spot!" Patch said as he laughed at Spot's faces. And Spot did just that, gathering funny reactions from Mango, Mittens, and Patch. The four all shared a laugh together, then took some breaths.

15 more minutes pass and it was 3:15 PM. "I wonder what this new place is gonna be offering," Spot said as she looked at a screenshot from the upcoming restaurant. "I don't know, but the ingredients look good," Mango said. The four imagined themselves all at Papa's Paleteria waiting in line for their paletas, with Papa Louie customers Kahuna, Taylor, Willow, and Connor standing there. "Hello," each of the four Lalaloopsies said to each of the four customers waiting in line with them. "Who are you four?" Kahuna asked. "Yes, who are you?" Taylor asked. "I'm Spot Splatter Splash, and these are my friends Mango Tiki Wiki, Mittens Fluff 'N' Stuff, and Patch Treasurechest," Spot answered as she showed the Lalaloopsies to the customers. "Nice to meet you, Mango, Mittens, Patch, and Spot," Willow said to them. "You four looking forward to this place?" Mango asked them. "We sure are, can't wait to try some paletas!" Connor answered. "And this place is just my style," Kahuna added. "I can tell because of your teal outfit. Love the color there," Mango said. "One by one please. Would you like some paletas?" Liezel asked all the customers waiting in line. "We all would!" all eight of them said together. Paletas magically appeared in each of the eight's hands as they took their bites, and the Papa Louie customers all gobbled theirs up fast. "Our paletas are too much," Mittens said noticing how huge theirs were. "I do like paletas, but I can't eat them every day. I wish I could, though. Could you?" Spot asked the three Lalaloopsies, who all nodded no.

The seconds slowly passed as Papa's Paleteria still wasn't open yet. "Oh, just think. We could be here at Papa's Paleteria enjoying what flavors they have to offer, but the place is still not open yet," Patch said as he looked through the window of Papa's Paleteria. Patch was moving his paleta stick around in the water while Spot was creaking the door of the still preparing to open Papa's Paleteria, which Liezel somehow left unlocked and didn't know. "That sounds like that show me and Mango watched earlier. It's like us four are living it," Mango said as she and Mittens watched Patch and Spot as the four imagined themselves in that Rock Paper Scissors episode from earlier.

Papa's Paleteria has finally opened at this point. "We'll be there in a minute!" Patch called out as he heard the place was open now. "We gotta go to Papa's Paleteria soon," Mittens told the other three Lalaloopsies. "Oh, come on, we were just getting started with our Rock, Paper, Scissors adventure!" Spot said as the three took Spot over to Papa's Paleteria. The four then arrived at Papa's Paleteria. "I just want to ask something. Excuse me, Liezel, can we all start ordering now?" Spot asked. "Sure, you can! Welcome all, to Papa's Paleteria!" Liezel said to the customers and four Lalaloopsies waiting for their paletas. They all ordered and received their paletas, and Liezel gave the four Lalaloopsies a gift for patiently waiitng outside, which were posters of Papa's Paleteria itself for the four to hang up in each of their homes, as this Lalaloopsy and Papa Louie adventure ends here.
