Work Text:
Rose was sunshine incarnate, anyone who was on her good side could tell you that. When she stepped into a room it felt like everything brightened.
And maybe that is why is had been so easy for River to fall in love with her. With the stolen moments she could get. Kisses behind buildings, and whispers in the dark.
Why letting Rose feel her heartbeat became second nature and why hearing hers felt like coming home.
And why River could feel the guilt crawl up her throat since she knew Rose's fate, if Rose were still there then River would see her whenever she saw the Doctor.
Maybe that is why, on that final day. The last time Rose Tyler would ever step foot on Earth in this universe River sought her out. One last kiss with her beloved, holding her close as the tears streamed down her face.
Forever burdened that with the knowledge that even if they could be together, that River would long outlive her lover. And that pain would swallow her whole. So one last, one last embrace. As the sky is dark and the Daleks prowl.
One last time, before she has to say goodbye.
