Chapter Text
The bustling metropolis of National City hummed with the energy of progress and innovation. At the heart of its technological marvels stood LuthorCorp, a beacon of scientific excellence led by the brilliant Lena Luthor. Lena, inheriting the legacy of her family but determined to forge her path, had dedicated herself to pushing the boundaries of scientific achievement.
It was amidst the gleaming towers of LuthorCorp's research facility that Lena embarked on her most ambitious project yet: the creation of an advanced AI system designed to match people with their perfect partners. For Lena, it wasn't just about revolutionizing the dating landscape; it was about using technology to bring people together in meaningful and lasting relationships.
Months of tireless work and countless sleepless nights followed as Lena and her team poured their expertise into the development of the AI system. Drawing from psychology, sociology, and machine learning, they meticulously crafted algorithms capable of analyzing personality traits, preferences, and compatibility factors with unprecedented accuracy.
Lena's vision was clear: to create a system that could transcend the limitations of human intuition and bias, offering a truly objective and reliable method for finding love. But as the project progressed, she faced mounting pressure and skepticism from both within and outside LuthorCorp.
Critics questioned the ethics of playing cupid with technology, raising concerns about privacy, consent, and the potential for manipulation. Yet Lena remained undeterred, driven by her belief in the power of science to improve the human condition.
Finally, after years of research and development, the AI system was ready for its debut. Dubbed "Destiny," it promised to revolutionize the way people approached relationships, offering hope to those who had struggled to find their perfect match.
The launch event was a spectacle befitting of LuthorCorp's reputation for grandeur. Celebrities, dignitaries, and media outlets from around the world gathered to witness history in the making. As Lena stood before the crowd, her heart swelled with pride and anticipation.
With a confident smile, she unveiled Destiny to the world, demonstrating its capabilities and explaining the science behind its matchmaking algorithms. The audience watched in awe as the AI system effortlessly analyzed profiles and predicted compatibility scores with astonishing precision.
Amidst the applause and accolades, Lena couldn't shake the nagging sense of uncertainty that lingered at the back of her mind. Had she truly succeeded in creating a tool for love, or had she unwittingly unleashed something beyond her control?
Only time will tell. But for now, as the world marveled at the marvels of technology, Lena allowed herself to bask in the glow of her achievement, hopeful that Destiny would fulfill its promise and bring happiness to those who sought it.

Kara Danvers, a dedicated journalist with a keen eye for stories that mattered, found herself on assignment to interview Lena Luthor about her groundbreaking AI system, Destiny. As she made her way to LuthorCorp's headquarters, Kara couldn't shake the mix of excitement and apprehension swirling within her.
Arriving at the grandiose edifice, Kara was greeted by an attendant who guided her into a spacious conference room, where Lena awaited her. Lena's presence alone commanded attention, radiating an aura of confidence and intellect that demanded acknowledgment.
"Thank you for agreeing to this interview, Ms. Luthor," Kara said, her fingers deftly arranging her recording equipment on the table. "Your work with Destiny has captured the world's attention. Could you share with us what motivated you to develop such a groundbreaking AI system?"
Lena's eyes gleamed with excitement as she delved into the genesis of Destiny, passionately describing her drive to utilize technology to enrich human connections and cultivate profound relationships.
As the interview unfolded, Kara found herself captivated by Lena's vision, though lingering questions lingered in the recesses of her mind. When the opportune moment arose, Kara broached the subject that had been weighing on her.
"Ms. Luthor, one of the most fascinating aspects of Destiny is its unparalleled ability to forecast compatibility," Kara observed thoughtfully. "Yet, there are critics who argue that entrusting technology to navigate love detracts from the spontaneity and enchantment of genuine connections. What is your response to those who advocate for leaving love to chance?"
Lena regarded Kara with a softened expression, her features betraying a hint of contemplation as she processed the depth of her inquiry. "It's a question I've grappled with myself," she confessed, her voice carrying a gentle undertone of introspection. "While Destiny offers a scientifically sound method for finding compatible partners, it's essential to acknowledge that love transcends mere algorithms. It's a complex tapestry of emotions and connections that can't be fully encapsulated by any formula."
Kara absorbed Lena's words, her thoughts weaving through the intricate tapestry of their conversation. "So, have you ever used Destiny to find your own soulmate?" she ventured, her curiosity sparked by Lena's thoughtful response.
Lena's gaze softened, a fleeting expression of longing flickering across her features before she composed herself, meeting Kara's eyes with raw honesty. "I believe in Destiny's potential to unite souls, but I also cherish the beauty of serendipity," she revealed, her voice laced with vulnerability. "As for my journey, well, I've chosen to embrace the unpredictability of fate but we never know the future."
Kara nodded, a sense of admiration swelling within her for Lena's willingness to embrace the uncertainties of love. As their conversation drew to a close, she couldn't shake the profound impact of Lena's words, recognizing the delicate balance between the science of compatibility and the enigmatic dance of destiny in matters of the heart.
Exiting LuthorCorp's headquarters, Kara couldn't shake the feeling that she had just scratched the surface of a story that transcended the confines of a mere interview.

Lena Luthor stood amidst the subdued lighting of the demonstration room within the labyrinthine halls of LuthorCorp's research facility. A concoction of anticipation and nervous energy pulsed through her veins. Before her, stood Kara Danvers, the intrepid journalist whose probing inquiries had both challenged and intrigued Lena during their earlier exchange. Now, they stood poised to embark on a different kind of journey—one that promised to unravel the enigmatic depths of Destiny's matchmaking prowess.
As Lena initiated the AI system and meticulously inputted their profiles, Kara observed with a quizzical blend of skepticism and amusement. The atmosphere crackled with anticipation as the program diligently processed the data, its intricate algorithms working tirelessly to compute their compatibility score.
After what felt like an eternity, the results materialized on the screen, and Lena's heart plummeted as she absorbed the figure: a staggering -100%. It was a compatibility score so abysmal, it defied logic—a chilling reminder of the capricious nature of human connections. It marked the first instance Lena had encountered a negative result, and she was left dumbfounded.
Kara's laughter erupted into the room, a symphony of amusement that echoed off the walls. Her eyes danced with mirth as she regarded Lena. "Well, I suppose that settles it," she quipped, her tone tinged with irrepressible amusement. "According to Destiny, one of us should probably start drafting our will because apparently, we're a match made in hell or one of us would be better off dead because we'd probably kill each other."
Lena couldn't suppress her chuckle as Kara once again injected their serious task with her irreverent humor. There was a warmth spreading through her chest, a familiar sensation whenever they engaged in their easy banter. Leaning closer to the screen, their shoulders almost touching, Lena felt an electric current crackling between them, drawing her inexplicably closer to Kara.
Time seemed to halt for a fleeting moment as Lena found herself captivated by the warmth emanating from Kara's eyes and the curve of her smile. It was a fleeting but undeniable connection—one that stirred something deep within Lena's heart.
Clearing her throat to regain focus, Lena suggested, "Perhaps we should try again," her voice carrying a hint of uncertainty.
Kara nodded, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "Why not?" she chimed in, her mischievous grin widening. "It can't possibly be worse than our current result."
As Lena adjusted the parameters and initiated another round of calculations, a sense of apprehension gnawed at her. What if Destiny confirmed their lack of compatibility once more? What if the undeniable spark with Kara amounted to mere wishful thinking?
The moment of truth arrived as the results materialized on the screen once again. This time, the number was even more staggering: -200%. Lena's heart sank at the sight, her hopes dashed by the harsh reality of the data before her.
But then, to her surprise, Kara burst into laughter once again, her eyes twinkling with mirth. "Well, I guess that settles it," she quipped her tone light despite the dismal outcome. "We're not soulmates—we're enemies from another life, no, a lot of lives."
Joining in Kara's laughter, Lena felt a wave of relief wash over her at the lightheartedness of the moment. Despite the disappointing results, there was a strange comfort in knowing that they shared a bond that transcended the confines of algorithms and calculations.
As they stood side by side, watching the numbers fade from the screen, Lena found herself grateful for the unexpected connection she had forged with Kara. For in that fleeting moment of shared laughter, she realized that perhaps the true measure of compatibility wasn't found in numbers or equations, but in the simple joy of being understood and accepted for who you truly are.
***
As the laughter gradually faded, the air in the demonstration room settled into a comfortable ease, yet Kara Danvers found herself caught in the lingering web of connection she felt with Lena Luthor. Despite Destiny's dismal compatibility prognosis, there was an undeniable pull drawing her towards the enigmatic scientist.
Drawing a breath, Kara leaned in, her eyes fixed on Lena's with a blend of earnestness and vulnerability. "You know, Lena, it's funny how Destiny pegs us as incompatible," she began softly, the weight of her words palpable. "Because even if we're not destined to be soulmates, I can't help but see the beauty in you."
Lena's pulse quickened at Kara's unexpected confession, a mix of surprise and uncertainty coursing through her. Kara's sincerity stripped away the layers she'd carefully built around her heart, leaving her feeling exposed and raw.
Before Lena could compose a response, Kara's playful tone broke through the tension, a mischievous grin playing on her lips. "But hey, if Destiny says we're not a match, maybe you could put that brilliant mind of yours to use and find someone who's a better fit for me," she teased, arching an eyebrow in mock consideration.
A twinge of jealousy shot through Lena at the suggestion, though she brushed it aside as irrational. "I highly doubt Destiny's calculations are foolproof," she retorted, her tone tinged with defensiveness. "There must be some glitch in the system skewing the results." And Lena certainly wasn't keen on the idea of finding someone else for Kara.
Kara watched Lena's reaction with keen interest, noting the way her smile faltered ever so slightly, betraying the composed facade she wore. "Destiny can sometimes use a gentle push," Kara remarked, her tone light yet laden with meaning. She held Lena's gaze, allowing a warmth to permeate her expression, a warmth that seemed to thaw the ice around Lena's heart.
Lena couldn't help but feel the magnetic pull between them, her resolve weakening in the face of Kara's undeniable charm. "Maybe," she conceded softly, her voice barely audible above the hum of electricity that seemed to crackle in the air between them. They moved closer, drawn together as if by an invisible force, their breath mingling in the small space between them.
Their moment, however, was abruptly interrupted by the intrusion of one of Lena's research team members, breaking the spell that had enveloped them. With a reluctant sigh, Lena tore her gaze away from Kara's, forced to attend to the pressing matter at hand.
As they reluctantly parted ways, the unspoken promise of future encounters hung between them like a tangible thread, a silent acknowledgment of the connection they shared and the uncharted territory they had yet to explore.
As Kara's eyes trailed Lena's figure vanishing down the hallway, a soft smile tugged at her lips, teasing out the corners of her mouth. "Destiny works in mysterious ways," she murmured to herself, her voice barely above a whisper, yet carrying a weight of significance. With each step Lena took, Kara felt a subtle shift in the air, as if the universe itself was conspiring to weave their paths together once more.
Lost in her thoughts, Kara turned away from the empty demonstration room, the echo of their encounter lingering in the space. Yet, despite the solitude, she felt anything but alone. The memory of Lena's presence danced in her mind, igniting a flicker of anticipation that stirred within her.
As she walked, Kara couldn't shake the feeling that their meeting was more than a mere chance. It was as if the universe had orchestrated their paths to cross again, nudging them toward an unknown future. With each step, she pondered the possibility that Lena Luthor might hold the key to a puzzle she never realized she was solving.
"Just when you think you've figured it all out," Kara muttered to herself, her voice carrying a blend of wonder and curiosity, "life throws you a curveball." She chuckled softly, the sound echoing in the corridor as she continued on her way. "Well, Lena Luthor," she said, her words carrying a hint of challenge and intrigue, "let's see what destiny has in store for us."
***
Lena Luthor sat in her office, surrounded by the hum of machines and the glow of monitors. The events of the demonstration replayed in her mind like a relentless loop, each moment dissected and analyzed. She couldn't shake off the disconcerting feeling that gnawed at her insides.
Her assistant, Jess, cautiously approached her desk. "Lena, are you alright? You've been at it for hours."
Lena glanced up, her eyes tired but determined. "I'm fine, Jess. Just trying to make sense of all this."
"You mean the thing with Kara?" Jess asked, her voice gentle.
Lena nodded, a frustrated sigh escaping her lips. "Yes, exactly. I thought Destiny was foolproof, but clearly, there's something we're missing."
Jess hesitated before speaking. "Do you think maybe it's not about the algorithm? I mean, sometimes, people just... don't click."
Lena's brows furrowed as she considered Jess's words. "But Kara and I, we...clicked more than I ever imagined. It doesn't make sense that Destiny couldn't see that."
Jess reached out to place a comforting hand on Lena's shoulder. "Maybe it's not about what Destiny sees, but what it doesn't. You and Kara, you're more than just data points. Some things can't be quantified."
Lena sighed, leaning back in her chair. "I suppose you're right. But I can't help feeling like I've failed somehow."
"You haven't failed, Lena," Jess said firmly. "You created something incredible, something that's brought happiness to so many people. Don't let one setback overshadow all the good you've done."
Lena managed a small smile, grateful for Jess's support. "Thank you, Jess. I needed to hear that."
As Jess returned to her work, Lena turned her attention back to the screens before her. The puzzle of Kara and Destiny's mismatch still loomed large, but with Jess's words echoing in her mind, Lena felt a glimmer of hope. Perhaps there was more to love than algorithms could ever capture. And perhaps, in that intangible space, there lay the key to unlocking the mystery of Kara Danvers.
Lena slumped back in her chair, her fingers hovering over the keyboard as she reluctantly turned her attention to the daunting task at hand. "Alright, let's see what we've got," she muttered to herself, her tone heavy with resignation.
Scrolling through the list of potential matches generated by Destiny, Lena couldn't shake the sense of unease that gnawed at her conscience. Each profile boasted impressive credentials – handsome, intelligent men who, on paper, seemed like ideal partners for Kara. Yet, as Lena scanned through their details, a knot tightened in her stomach.
"They all look great," Lena admitted, her voice tinged with frustration. "But why does none of this feel right?" She shook her head, trying to dispel the discomfort that lingered like a shadow over her thoughts.
With a sigh, Lena leaned forward, her brow furrowed in concentration. "Maybe I'm just being selfish," she mused aloud, her words more for her benefit than anyone else's. "But I can't shake the feeling that there's something... off about all of this."
As she continued her search, Lena's frustration bubbled up, threatening to spill over. "Why does Destiny seem to work for everyone else?" she wondered aloud, her voice tinged with a hint of bitterness. "What is it about us that defies the logic of algorithms and calculations?"
Lost in her thoughts, Lena couldn't help but feel a pang of longing deep within her chest. Despite her best efforts to rationalize the situation, the prospect of Kara being with anyone other than herself left a bitter taste in her mouth. It was a feeling she couldn't quite articulate, but one that she knew all too well.
As the minutes slipped away, Lena found herself sinking deeper into a sea of disillusionment. Despite her formidable intellect and mastery of technology, she grappled with the realization that matters of the heart remained stubbornly resistant to scientific analysis. Love, it seemed, defied the neat equations and precise algorithms that she had come to rely on.
With a sigh heavy enough to weigh down her soul, Lena shut the lid of her laptop. The gentle glow of the screen bathed her in a soft light, illuminating the contours of her face as she reclined in her chair. Resignation settled over her like a shroud, punctuated by the faintest glimmer of hope flickering in the depths of her weary eyes.
For all the frustration and uncertainty swirling around her, Lena couldn't shake the persistent feeling that her bond with Kara transcended the boundaries of logic and reason. Despite Destiny's cold calculations decreeing their incompatibility, Lena couldn't silence the whispers of fate weaving through her thoughts, hinting at a destiny beyond the reach of mortal understanding.
In the quiet solitude of her thoughts, Lena grappled with the truth that Kara had stirred something within her, something unexpected and profound. Though Destiny may have dashed her hopes, casting doubts upon their connection, Lena couldn't deny the magnetic pull drawing her ever closer to Kara, defying the very laws of destiny itself.

In the tranquil ambiance of her laboratory, Lena Luthor was enveloped by the gentle radiance of the evening sun, casting National City in a mesmerizing golden hue. Seated at her desk, surrounded by the quietude of her surroundings, Lena found herself immersed in contemplation, her gaze fixed on the illuminated screen of her computer. Thoughts swirled in her mind, drawing her back to the vexing conundrum of Destiny's futile attempts at matchmaking, particularly concerning Kara Danvers.
As Lena teetered on the brink of delving deeper into her musings, the tranquility was abruptly shattered by the ringing of her phone. Glancing at the caller ID, she was taken aback to see Kara Danvers's name flashing on the display. A curious blend of intrigue and trepidation washed over her as Lena hesitantly accepted the call.
"Lena, what a surprise," Kara's voice chimed through the line, her tone playful yet tinged with genuine curiosity.
Lena reciprocated the greeting with a hint of curiosity in her voice. "Kara, what brings you to call me?"
"Just curious if Destiny's algorithms have conjured up a suitable match for me yet," Kara quipped, her playful demeanor evident even over the phone.
A smile tugged at Lena's lips at Kara's light-hearted banter, though beneath the surface, a pang of guilt gnawed at her conscience, a reminder of her earlier frustrations with the AI matchmaking system. "Funny you should ask," Lena replied, a note of resignation lacing her words. "According to Destiny, we're still destined to be arch nemeses."
Kara's laughter rang through the phone, a melodious sound tinged with irony. "Well, there you have it," she remarked, a hint of mock disappointment coloring her tone. "I guess dinner with your sworn enemy is off the table."
Lena's heart skipped a beat at the unexpected turn in the conversation, a whirlwind of emotions stirring within her. Though a part of her yearned to dismiss Kara's jest and maintain a façade of indifference, another part longed for the opportunity to delve deeper into the enigma that was Kara Danvers.
Before she could fully process her thoughts, Lena found herself blurting out, "Actually, I would accept."
There was a pregnant pause on the other end of the line as Kara absorbed Lena's words, her surprise palpable when she finally spoke. "You would?" Kara echoed, her disbelief tinged with a hint of incredulity.
Lena's pulse quickened, a whirlwind of nerves and excitement swirling within her as she affirmed her choice with unwavering determination. "Yes, I'm in," she asserted, her voice infused with newfound confidence. "Where and when shall we meet?"
Kara was momentarily rendered speechless, caught off guard by the sudden turn of events. Yet, a radiant smile curved her lips, betraying her inner joy as she swiftly set plans into motion. "How about 7 p.m. tonight at the bistro near your laboratory?" she proposed, her enthusiasm reverberating through the phone lines. With each passing moment, Kara's anticipation only grew, unable to contain her eagerness any longer.
For Lena, a surge of adrenaline surged through her veins, amplifying her senses as she accepted Kara's invitation, her heart racing with anticipation for the evening rendezvous. As she concluded the call and prepared to depart from her lab, Lena couldn't shake the inkling that perhaps, against all odds, fate had orchestrated this unexpected twist. Stepping into the balmy embrace of the evening air, Lena allowed herself to entertain the tantalizing prospect of what lay ahead, embracing the uncertainty with open arms.
***
In the vicinity of Lena's laboratory, a charming restaurant radiated an atmosphere of refinement and coziness, its interior bathed in the gentle illumination of flickering candlelight. Seated at a secluded corner table, Kara Danvers found herself ensconced in a cocoon of nervous anticipation, her gaze alternating between her wristwatch and the entrance, where she eagerly awaited Lena's arrival. Despite her best efforts to maintain an air of nonchalance, Kara couldn't quell the flutter of excitement that surged within her at the thought of spending the evening in the company of the enigmatic scientist.
As the hands of the clock inexorably advanced, Kara's mind became a tumultuous sea of emotions, ranging from optimism to apprehension, interspersed with a healthy dose of self-doubt. Just as she teetered on the brink of succumbing to the gnawing fear that Lena might not appear, a figure caught her attention from across the room.
There, silhouetted against the entrance, stood Lena Luthor, her mere presence commanding the attention of all who beheld her as she gracefully navigated the space toward Kara's table. A wave of relief washed over Kara as she offered Lena a warm smile, her heart quickening its pace at the sight of the brilliant scientist drawing nearer.
As Lena approached, Kara couldn't help but be struck by the effortless elegance and poise with which she moved, her features aglow in the soft, ambient light of the restaurant. Rising from her seat to greet Lena, Kara felt her pulse quicken as their eyes locked in a charged moment, an electric current seemingly sparking between them.
Before Kara could even form a syllable of greeting, the universe decided to interject, orchestrating an unforeseen twist in their encounter. A waiter, burdened with a precarious tower of drinks, stumbled into their path, his balance teetering on the brink of disaster. In a split-second reflex, Kara propelled herself forward, instinctively reaching out to steady Lena, their bodies colliding in an unexpected moment of closeness.
"Whoa, my apologies!" the waiter exclaimed, his face flushing crimson with embarrassment as he scrambled to regain his composure and offer a swift apology.
Caught off guard by the sudden collision, Kara and Lena found themselves ensnared in a delicate embrace, their lips inadvertently meeting in a fleeting kiss. Time seemed to halt as they hovered in the space between astonishment and amusement, their hearts echoing a synchronized rhythm of uncertainty.
As the awkwardness threatened to engulf them, Kara couldn't help but notice a comforting warmth spreading through her chest in response to Lena's proximity. With a sheepish grin, she attempted to lighten the mood with a playful quip, though both of them were still reeling from the unexpected intimacy.
"Well, it appears Destiny had its own agenda for us, diverging from its artificial counterpart," Kara joked, her voice carrying a blend of amusement and sincerity as she tried to ease the tension, though the memory of their inadvertent kiss lingered in the air, palpable yet unspoken.
Lena's cheeks flushed with a mixture of embarrassment and amusement at the accidental kiss, though a flicker of playful humor danced in her eyes as she met Kara's gaze. "Indeed," she replied, her tone echoing the amalgamation of emotions swirling within her, a subtle acknowledgment of the unpredictable twists of fate.
"It seems our destiny has a way of surprising us when we least expect it."
As Kara and Lena exchanged anecdotes and jokes, their laughter echoed through the air, weaving a tapestry of camaraderie that seemed to defy the confines of time and space. With each shared moment, Kara felt the bonds between them strengthening, forming a connection that transcended mere happenstance and resonated with a profound sense of purpose.
Their laughter subsided, leaving behind a warm glow of understanding and friendship. "You know," Kara said, her voice tinged with a hint of wonder, "it's moments like these that make you realize how unpredictable life can be."
Lena nodded, a smile playing at the corners of their lips. "Absolutely," she replied, her blue eyes alight with shared amusement. "Who would have thought that a chance encounter could lead to such a meaningful connection?"
As they settled into their seats, the anticipation of what lay ahead filled the air like a tangible presence. Kara glanced out the window, her heart swelling with excitement at the thought of the adventures that awaited them. "I can't help but feel like there's something special about tonight," she confessed, turning to Lena with a hopeful gleam in her eyes.
Lena met her gaze, her expression mirroring her sense of anticipation. "I couldn't agree more," they replied, their voice soft yet filled with conviction. "There's a certain magic in the air as if the universe itself is conspiring to bring us together but not by AI." Kara laughed and stared at Lena who tenderly smiled at her and held her hand.
***
As they sat amidst the soft glow of the restaurant, Kara and Lena found themselves ensnared in a palpable tension that hung between them like an invisible barrier. The playful banter they often shared seemed to dissipate in the face of a weighty question that lingered, unspoken yet undeniable: why did Destiny deem them incompatible?
Leaning in slightly, Kara regarded Lena with a mixture of curiosity and apprehension, her eyes searching for answers in the depths of Lena's own. "Lena, I can't help but wonder why Destiny sees us this way. Any thoughts?" Her voice, usually light and jovial, now carried a serious undertone.
Lena's lips curved into a wry smile as she contemplated Kara's inquiry, her mind racing through the countless possibilities. "Oh, there could be a myriad of reasons," she mused, her tone playful yet tinged with underlying seriousness. "Perhaps it's because you're the epitome of sunshine with your blonde locks, and I'm the mysterious brunette. Or maybe Destiny has a thing against two powerful women being together. Or it could simply boil down to our different upbringings and social circles."
Kara's smirk faltered, replaced by a furrow of confusion as she grappled with Lena's response. "But those are just surface-level differences," she protested, her frustration evident. "Aren't opposites supposed to attract? Shouldn't our differences make us more intriguing to Destiny?"
Lena couldn't help but chuckle at Kara's earnestness, though a flicker of uncertainty danced in her eyes. "Yes, in theory," she conceded, her voice laced with a hint of doubt. "But love doesn't always follow a predictable path. Sometimes, it's the unexpected connections that capture the heart. I learned it myself."
Kara's gaze bore into Lena's with such intensity that it sent a shiver down her spine, her words hanging in the air between them like a silent confession. Lena felt a wave of heat rush to her cheeks as she locked eyes with Kara, the connection between them crackling with unspoken tension.
"So, let me get this straight," Kara began, her voice barely above a whisper, "my heart decides to take a detour into the land of irrationality, and guess where it lands? Right on you—my supposed incompatible, sworn enemy?" She tilted her head, a small smile playing on her lips, though her eyes betrayed a vulnerability Lena had never seen before.
Lena swallowed hard, her heart fluttering in her chest as she searched Kara's eyes for any hint of insincerity. "Maybe," she murmured, her voice barely audible over the din of the restaurant. "Or maybe, just maybe, there's a deeper connection between us that we've been too afraid to explore."
As they lingered in the quiet intimacy of their shared moment, Lena felt a wave of vulnerability wash over her, mingled with an exhilarating rush of adrenaline. The realization that her heart was screaming for Kara, and no one else, was both terrifying and liberating. "Maybe destiny has a funny way of surprising us," she added softly, her gaze never leaving Kara's.
As Kara's gaze held Lena's, a soft smile tugging at the corners of her lips, Lena felt a warm flutter in her chest. She had always been captivated by Kara's presence, but tonight, something felt different. It was as if the air crackled with unspoken emotions, and Lena couldn't ignore the pull drawing her closer to Kara.
"Kara," Lena murmured, her voice barely above a whisper, yet filled with a quiet intensity that mirrored the emotions swirling inside her.
Kara's blue eyes searched Lena's face, reflecting both curiosity and affection. "Lena," she replied, her voice gentle, tinged with a hint of anticipation.
Encouraged by the warmth in Kara's gaze, Lena felt a surge of courage coursing through her veins. With a hesitant yet determined movement, she leaned forward, closing the distance between them. Her heart pounded against her ribcage, each beat echoing the anticipation that thrummed through her veins.
Their lips met in a tentative kiss, sending a jolt of electricity through Lena's entire being. It was a moment suspended in time, where nothing else mattered except the connection they shared. And as Kara responded, Lena felt herself being swept away by the overwhelming sensation of their union.
Their kiss deepened, each touch igniting a fire within them that had long been smoldering. At that moment, amidst the swirl of emotions and the intoxicating taste of Kara's lips, Lena knew that this was where she belonged with Kara, in this electrifying embrace, spoke volumes without uttering a single word.

Lena's gaze softened as she pulled back slightly, her breath mingling with Kara's as they shared a tender moment. Her heart swelled with a mixture of admiration and longing, emotions dancing across her features as they broke the kiss. "Kara," she began, her voice soft yet filled with conviction, "I've been doing a lot of thinking lately. And I've come to a realization."
Kara's brow furrowed slightly, concern flickering in her eyes as she waited for Lena to continue.
"I've spent so much time trying to control every aspect of my life, to fit into this mold that society expects of me," Lena confessed, her fingers tracing absent-minded patterns on Kara's hand. "But I've come to realize that maybe Destiny isn't something to be dictated by algorithms and calculations. Maybe it's something far more unpredictable and beautiful."
Kara's smile widened at Lena's words, a tender warmth enveloping her heart as she squeezed Lena's hand gently. "You're right," she agreed softly, her voice filled with affection. "Love isn't something that can be neatly packaged and analyzed. It's messy and complicated, but it's also the most beautiful thing in the world."
Lena felt a rush of emotion wash over her at Kara's words, a sense of peace settling over her as she gazed into those familiar blue eyes. "I used to think that I had to find someone who fit perfectly into my life," she admitted, her voice tinged with vulnerability. "But with you, Kara, it's different. It's like... like finding a missing piece of myself that I never even knew was missing."
Kara's heart skipped a beat at Lena's confession, her own emotions swirling inside her as she leaned in closer to Lena. "I feel the same way," she whispered, her voice barely above a breath. "With you, Lena, everything just... falls into place. And even if Destiny says otherwise, I know in my heart that we're meant to be together."
A soft smile tugged at Lena's lips at Kara's words, a sense of contentment settling over her as she leaned in to press a gentle kiss to Kara's forehead. "I don't need Destiny to tell me what I already know," she murmured, her voice filled with certainty. "Because what we have... it's something far more precious and unexpected than anything I could have ever imagined."
Kara's heart swelled with love at Lena's declaration, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears as she wrapped her arms around Lena, holding her close. "I couldn't agree more," she whispered, her voice filled with emotion. "With you, Lena, I've found something truly extraordinary. And no amount of algorithms or calculations could ever change that."
As Lena and Kara locked eyes, a profound understanding seemed to pass between them, a silent agreement that transcended words. Lena felt a wave of tranquility wash over her, as if the burdens of the world had suddenly been lifted, leaving behind a sense of calm assurance. She couldn't help but marvel at the unexpected bond that had formed between them, a bond forged in adversity and uncertainty.
Breaking the poignant silence, Kara's mischievous grin illuminated her face, her eyes sparkling with playful mischief as she nudged Lena gently. "Well, look at us, finding common ground with our arch-nemesis," she teased, her voice a playful melody laced with genuine fondness.
Unable to resist the invitation to engage in some light-hearted banter, Lena playfully pinched Kara's cheek, a playful glint dancing in her eyes. "Indeed," she quipped, a hint of mock indignation coloring her tone. "Though I must confess, you're not nearly as unbearable as I initially presumed."
"Oh thank you, Miss Luthor."
Kara's laughter filled the air, a joyous sound that warmed Lena's heart. At that moment, amidst the shared laughter and candid confessions, Kara couldn't help but feel a swell of affection for the brilliant scientist seated across from her. It was a realization that destiny had a way of weaving unexpected connections, even in the most unlikely of circumstances.
As they settled into the ease of each other's company, Kara allowed herself to entertain the tantalizing prospect of the future. Amidst the whirlwind of conflicting emotions and unpredictable affections, one thing remained steadfast in her mind: with Lena Luthor by her side, there was a world of endless possibilities waiting to be explored.
Chapter Text
The soft glow of the setting sun spilled through the windows of Lena Luthor’s lab, bathing everything in warm gold. It was quiet—just the low hum of her computer and the thoughts racing in her mind. She sat at her desk, eyes fixed on the screen, but her mind was far away.
She kept thinking about Destiny’s matchmaking system—and how badly it had failed when it came to Kara Danvers. It didn’t make sense. Every part of her said that there was something real between her and Kara, something deep and hard to explain. But the system had said otherwise, and that thought still nagged at her.
A knock pulled her out of her thoughts. She barely had time to react before the door opened and a tall, well-dressed man stepped in. He had one of those confident, easy smiles that could charm just about anyone. Lena wasn’t impressed—at least not yet.
“Lena Luthor,” he said smoothly, holding out his hand. “It’s a pleasure. I’m Alexander Kane.”
She stood and shook his hand, eyebrows raised slightly. “Alexander Kane,” she repeated, trying to place him. “Have we met?”
He let out a soft chuckle. “Not directly. But I’ve been following your work. What you’ve done with LuthorCorp and Destiny? Incredible.”
His compliment landed, but Lena didn’t let it show too much. Something about him put her on edge. “Thanks. But I’m guessing you didn’t come all this way just to praise me.”
He stepped closer, still smiling. “Call me Alexander, please. I’m here because Destiny thinks we’re a match. A perfect one.”
Lena’s breath caught. She stared at him, startled. Her mind immediately jumped to Kara—to their terrible compatibility score. Her chest tightened.
“I see,” she said quietly, unsure of how to respond.
Alexander took her hesitation as interest and moved closer again, his voice dropping low and intimate. “Honestly, I was skeptical. But now, standing here with you, I feel it. There’s something between us. I believe Destiny got it right.”
Lena took a small step back, feeling the pressure build in her chest. “You’re flattering, Alexander. But… this is a bit sudden.”
He reached out, gently taking her hand, his thumb brushing slow circles across her skin. “Sometimes the best things happen when we don’t expect them. Let’s give this a chance.”
She instantly pulled away. Her gut was screaming at her. He was handsome, smart, wealthy—on paper, perfect. But her heart didn’t skip a beat. Instead, it pulled in a completely different direction.
“Alexander,” she said, her voice calm but firm, “I have to be honest. My heart’s not free.”
He looked confused, like she’d just told him the sky was green. “But Destiny’s algorithm—it's never wrong. How can this be?”
She shook her head gently. “Love doesn’t always follow rules. It doesn’t care about algorithms. It just… happens.”
“I believe in Destiny, Lena. In us. You should too.”
“I believe in my feelings,” she said. “And they’re not here. I’m sorry.”
He took a breath, his smile fading. “Alright. I respect that. But I hope you’ll keep the door open, just a little.”
And with that, he turned and left, leaving Lena standing alone, heart pounding, unsure of what had just happened.
She sank back into her chair, eyes drifting to her computer screen. A picture of Kara smiled back at her, and her chest ached. In the past, she should’ve given Alexander a chance. Maybe he could’ve been something.
But her feelings for Kara were real—messy, confusing, and completely out of sync with what Destiny predicted—but real. And no algorithm in the world could change that.
Alexander Kane wasn’t used to hearing “no.” Lena Luthor’s rejection didn’t push him away—it just made him want her more. He believed in Destiny’s matchmaking system, and more than that, he believed there was something real between him and Lena. He wasn’t about to walk away without trying everything.
The next morning, Lena’s lab was filled with the heady scent of rare flowers—huge, colorful, impossible to ignore. A sleek card sat among the petals: “Thinking of you – Alexander.”
It was a bold move, and while Lena appreciated the effort, it made her uncomfortable. It felt like he was trying to prove something, not express something.
Over the next few days, the gestures kept coming—bigger, flashier. A weekend getaway on a private island. A yacht. Invitations to exclusive galas where she was the star. Everyone around her was impressed. But Lena felt boxed in. Smothered. This wasn’t what love felt like.
Meanwhile, Kara Danvers had no idea about Alexander’s over-the-top displays. Her way of showing care was quiet and sweet: a favorite book with a handwritten note inside, a tiny plant for Lena’s office, a cozy night in with home-cooked dinner. Kara made Lena feel seen like the real her, not the public face of L-Corp.
Kara made her laugh when nothing else could. She brought light into Lena’s darkest moments. There was no pressure, no big gestures—just warmth, trust, and a spark that kept burning hotter.
One night, Lena was sitting alone in her lab when her phone buzzed. Her heart did a little jump when she saw Kara’s name.
“Hey, you,” Kara said, her voice soft and full of affection. “I was thinking about you and just wanted to hear your voice.”
Lena smiled, already relaxing. “I’m glad you called. I was thinking about you too.”
“Oh yeah?” Kara teased. “What about?”
“That time we got lost on that hike,” Lena said, laughing quietly. “You were so stubborn about finding the trail, and I couldn’t stop watching you. You were amazing.”
Kara chuckled. “God, we were a mess. But yeah… I loved that. It brought us closer.”
Lena’s heart swelled. “That’s what I love about you, Kara. You make everything feel like an adventure. You make me feel alive.”
There was a pause, then Kara’s voice dropped. “You make me happy, Lena. In a way no one else ever has.”
Lena’s throat tightened. “I know. I feel the same.”
When the call ended, Lena looked down at the sparkling diamond necklace Alexander had sent her earlier. It was stunning. It also meant nothing. Not compared to a single sentence from Kara.
She placed the necklace back in the box, her mind made up. She had to talk to Alexander—he deserved clarity. But her heart was already spoken for.
The next day, Alexander showed up at L-Corp with yet another gift—a bottle of wine that probably cost more than most people’s rent. Lena met him in the lobby.
“Alexander,” she said gently, taking the wine and setting it aside, “thank you. You’ve been incredibly generous.”
He smiled, proud. “I meant every bit of it. I want you to see how serious I am about us. Destiny chose us for a reason.”
Lena took a breath. “I know you mean well. But I have to be honest. I care about you, I really do. But not like that. My heart… it’s already with someone else.”
He blinked, stunned. “But Destiny says we’re a perfect match. We have 100%. You can’t just ignore that.”
“Destiny can’t measure the way Kara makes me feel,” Lena said softly. “She gets me. She supports me. She sees me. What we have—no algorithm could’ve predicted it.”
Alexander looked hurt, but he wasn’t cruel. “If that’s truly how you feel… I won’t stand in your way. Just promise you’ll keep your heart open. Sometimes love shows up when we least expect it.”
“I know,” Lena nodded. “That’s exactly how I found her.”
As Alexander left, Lena finally felt like she could breathe again.
That night, Lena was back in her lab when Kara called again, her voice a little nervous this time.
“Hey, um… I sent you something. It’s not much. Just… something small.”
Lena smiled. “If it’s from you, I’ll love it.”
Kara hesitated, then said, “I love you, Lena. I’ve been wanting to say it for a while. I mean it.”
Tears welled up in Lena’s eyes. “I love you too, Kara. So much.”
After they hung up, Lena walked to the front of the lab where a package had been left earlier. She opened it slowly, carefully.
Inside was a simple silver locket, delicate and beautiful. On the outside, their initials were engraved together. Inside were two tiny photos—one of Kara, one of Lena, both smiling like idiots in love.
Lena slipped the locket around her neck, feeling its warmth settle against her skin.
This, this was love. Not flowers, not yachts, not jewels. Just her and Kara, messy and real and perfect in their own way.
She didn’t need an algorithm to tell her they were meant to be.
She could feel it. Every single time Kara looked at her like she was the only person in the world.
Kara walked into the sleek lobby of L-Corp, holding a bouquet of fresh wildflowers she’d picked up from a small stand on the way. The colors were vibrant—sunny yellows, soft blues, a hint of lavender—and the smell was sweet and clean, like spring after a rain. The bouquet didn’t look fancy, but it was thoughtful, real. Just like her.
She was a little nervous, cheeks already a little pink as she clutched the flowers close. She hadn’t planned the visit. She just missed Lena. Wanted to see her face. Maybe make her smile.
As she waited for the elevator, someone stepped beside her. Tall, well-dressed, and polished like a man out of a magazine. He glanced at the flowers, then at her.
“Going to see Lena?” he asked with a smirk.
Kara blinked at him, caught off guard. “Um… yeah. Just wanted to surprise her.”
He smiled, charming but almost too smooth. “You must be a friend.”
Kara nodded, still unsure. “Yeah. I'm… close to her.”
“I’m Alexander Kane,” he said, offering his hand. “Destiny says I’m her perfect match.”
Kara’s stomach did a strange little flip. “Oh. I… didn’t know that,” she replied, trying not to let her voice shake. Her smile was polite, but her fingers gripped the flowers a little tighter.
Before anything more could be said, the elevator dinged open and there she was.
Lena Luthor.
She is stepping out with her tablet in one hand, her dark hair loose around her shoulders, eyes sharp—until she saw them standing there. Her expression faltered for a split second.
Then her gaze landed on Kara, and her whole face lit up.
Lena’s smile was wide, real, the kind that made her eyes crinkle just slightly. “Kara,” she breathed, her voice like a quiet sigh of relief. Like Kara had just saved her from drowning.
Kara stepped forward, holding the bouquet out like a peace offering. “These are for you. I saw them and… I thought of you.”
Lena’s eyes softened instantly. She didn’t even look at the flowers at first and then she looked at Kara. Like she was the only thing in the room.
“They’re beautiful,” Lena said, taking them gently, brushing her fingers against Kara’s. “Thank you, darling.”
Behind them, Alexander shifted uncomfortably.
“I see you two are… very close,” he said, a little tighter than before.
Lena didn’t miss the meaning in his voice—but she didn’t flinch. She turned, still holding the flowers, standing a little taller. He knew it Lena's heart was taken and she will remind him again. Openly and clearly.
“Yes, we are. Very close,” she said simply. Her tone was kind, but final.
Kara gave her a small, unsure glance. Lena reached out, taking her hand openly, right in front of Alexander. Her grip was warm and firm. Reassuring.
“Alexander,” Lena said gently but clearly, “I think you’ve already sensed what I tried to explain. This...” she looked at Kara, “...this is where my heart is.”
Kara’s eyes widened just a bit, lips parting like she wasn’t sure she’d heard right. Lena smiled at her again, this time softer. Deeper.
Alexander nodded once, curt, a bit wounded but polite. “I hope you find what you're looking for.”
He turned and walked away, leaving the two women standing there.
Lena didn’t waste another second. She pulled Kara in by the waist, still holding the flowers between them, and kissed her cheek, then her lips, soft and lingering. Kara melted into it, her free hand gripping Lena’s lapel like she needed to anchor herself.
“You came all the way here to give me flowers,” Lena whispered when they pulled apart, noses brushing. “And I get to kiss you in return? Best deal I’ve ever made.”
Kara laughed, breathless, her forehead resting against Lena’s. “I didn’t know he was your ‘perfect match.’”
“He’s not,” Lena said with zero hesitation. “You are.”
Kara blinked, overcome, and then just hugged her tight, burying her face into Lena’s neck, heart thudding loud against hers.
Lena closed her eyes, holding Kara like she was something precious. Something Lena had fought for and was never letting go. Her voice dropped, meant only for Kara’s ears.
“I love you. I don’t care what Destiny says, or who shows up next with a yacht and a castle. You’re it for me.”
Kara pulled back just enough to meet her eyes. “I love you too, Lena. So damn much.”
And in the middle of a cold corporate lobby, they kissed again—slow and sweet and full of everything they didn’t need words for anymore.
It wasn’t planned.
It was just right.
