The Meek Shall Inherit

Summary:

A Spiresight MAP script set to the song The Meek Shall Inherit from Little Shop of Horrors. Various Starclan cats attempt to recruit Spiresight to Starclan, showing him perks such as their powers and power over the Dark Forest and the living cats, reuniting with their loved ones, and the preservation and elevation of their legacies, ultimately only succeeding in freaking him out and driving him to life as a ghost.

Work Text:

Part 1

Firestar: Seymour Krelborn! Finally, we meet you! What an occasion! Let's toast it! Up yours. Relax!

Spottedleaf: Canapé?

Yellowfang: Cigarette?

Firestar: Let's talk turkey! Sign here, we'll book you on lecturing tours.

Spiresight is sitting with Spottedleaf on his left and Yellowfang on his right in Starclan, relaxed and amused while they look at him with badly concealed excitement. Firestar walks in from the left in a similar mood to them, reaching Spiresight and reaching out a front paw for him to shake at “Let’s toast it!” before abruptly becoming angry and shoving a black paw that has emerged from the clouds of the ground back under them with a back paw, not lowering his front paw. He abruptly switches back to his previous mood, while Spiresight is slightly unnerved and surprised and stands up. Spottedleaf lifts up a front paw ‘palm’ up, creating a simplified vision of ominous dark clouds covering the moon above it, and Spiresight looks at it without his expression changing. Yellowfang copies this gesture, creating a simplified vision of the tree falling on Mudclaw, which Spiresight switches to looking at without his expression changing. He looks at Firestar as he addresses him again, moving his paw down and back up slightly to try to get him to shake it while stars appear in it, and Spiresight abruptly stands up and leaves the group, exiting to the right.

Part 2

Reedshine: Yes, darling. We're sending photographers Thursday. So get the plant ready and wear a clean shirt. Just sign this release.

Appledusk: Need a pen?

Reedshine: Aren't you thrilled? It's the cover of Life magazine!

Appledusk: Dessert?

Spiresight has barely escaped Firestar, Spottedleaf, and Yellowfang when Reedshine and Appledusk surround him after entering from the left side of the screen, pressing up against his sides with their tails entwined above him and facing the same direction as him, alarming him. As they walk forward and lose contact with him, they turn back towards him in unison. Reedshine places a front paw over Appledusk’s, closing her eyes while running her head against his throat and not noticing him speaking to Spiresight flirtatiously while offering his other front paw to him to shake, featuring the same stars as Firestar’s. Spiresight reacts positively to this, confidently reaching a front paw towards his but pausing at the last second as he notices Reedshine shooting daggers at Appledusk. He sheepishly exits to the right as Appledusk calls out to him and Reedshine offendedly takes her paw off of his.

Part 3

Wolfheart: I’m telling you, son, it's a cinch to get ratings. The title is Marvin's.

Smallstar: The concept is mine.

Runningstorm: The first weekly gardening show on the network!

Wolfheart: And you're gonna host it, you lucky kid.

Wolfheart, Smallstar, and Runningstorm: (spoken) Sign!

Spiresight has barely escaped Appledusk and Reedshine when Wolfheart, Smallstar, and Runningstorm surround him, circling him like sharks so that he is no longer visible. He briefly manages to claw his way upwards and into sight, desperately struggling in a way that is reminiscent of drowning, before getting pulled back under. Wolfheart, Smallstar, and Runningstorm turn inwards to the circle they’ve created, offering front paws with stars, except Spiresight is no longer there.

Part 4

Jay’s Wing: They say the meek shall inherit

Dove’s Wing: You know the Book doesn't lie

Lion’s Roar: It's not a question of merit, it's not demand and supply

Spiresight desperately runs, stopping as Jay’s Wing unexpectedly appears in front of him, sitting in front of a dead Eurasian jay with its eyes covered in herbs that are also spilling out of its beak, connected to a front paw that is elevated ‘palm’ down like a puppet, his other front paw extended towards Spiresight with stars. Spiresight runs from him with increased desperation and stops at Dove’s Wing, who is sitting in front of a dead dove with striped ivy wrapped around it and pinning its wings down, puppeting it and offering a starred paw in the same way as Jay’s Wing. Spiresight runs from her with increased desperation and stops at Lion’s Roar, who is sitting in front of a dead griffin the size of the birds with the clouds beneath it slowly giving way, puppeting it and offering a starred paw. The griffin falls through the clouds, leaving a hole, and Spiresight starts desperately digging at it, offending Lion’s Roar.

Part 5

Jay’s Wing, Dove’s Wing, and Lion’s Roar: They say the meek are gonna get it! You know the meek are gonna get what's coming to them!

Jay’s Wing and Dove’s Wing enter from the right side of the screen, the opposite side to Lion’s Roar, and they all sing angrily at Spiresight as he digs at the hole, widening it. He barely manages to avoid touching a front paw to Lion’s Roar’s starred paw, which he shoved in front of him, before hesitating and squeezing himself through the hole, disappearing and angering the others further.

Part 6

You know the meek are gonna get what’s coming to them!

You know the meek are gonna get what’s coming to them!

By! And! By!

Spiresight falls through the sky, scared but hopeful, and is visibly relieved after hitting the ground in a ditch in Shadowclan territory and taking a moment to realize that he’s safe as a ghost. He sighs in relief, turning away from the wall of the ditch, and is shocked to see Shadowsight’s body in front of him, which comes into focus as he sees it. He takes a moment to attempt to process this before frustratedly facepalming with a front paw.
