Chapter 1: “The Beginning.”
Chapter Text
Neither of us wanted it.
An only child to an expensive company, competing against Togami Corp., an equally powerful company. The two companies, for some business purposes, decided to merge—but on a condition. That I marry one of their sons, which happened to be quite a snarky one, the one and only Togami Byakuya.
After the wedding day, they dropped us off at our new home, which Togami had already toured. Luckily (not really) for me, I didn’t even get to see any of the rooms.
The tall wooden doors behind us closed as they left us here, and we were now beside each other. What did they expect? For us to be happy with each-other?
Byakuya turned to me, eyes like daggers as he spoke, “Just so you know, we are not going to share a bed, or the same room for that matter. I do not want to be seen with a peasant like you,” he crossed his arms. He obviously was as enthusiastic as I was.
I tilted my head up at him, a look still unpleasant but not as bold as Togami’s, “It’s better that way,” I spoke, and I didn’t bother to bring up the way he addressed me. He’d just get even more mad.
He seemed to look slightly annoyed (or more than before), which I found odd since I was literally agreeing with him.
I sighed.
The silence was loud. And also irritating. “I’m going to check out the house. . .” I said, not even bothering to look behind me as I walked away.
I ventured into the large house, stepping into the kitchen. It was like a mansion, which it actually was. I liked how clean and simplistic the interior was. I also found myself thinking about what Togami was doing. I shook my head, why am I even thinking about that douchebag right now?, which was found unhelpful as it just made me think even more.
I heard Togami’s boots click-clack against the floor, which faded off quickly. He seemed to be in a rush, I presume he was wanting to get away from me, and quickly.
I rolled my eyes. My eyes glazed over the smart fridge, then the marble counters, which were visibly new. The plants around the house were a nice touch as well, some greenery inside was nice. There was a pot of white orchids and a bowl of fruit in the middle of the kitchen countertop. The orchids were indeed real, and they were beautiful.
I then looked to the pantry. It seemed small, because of the door. I opened it, and I was far from right. Holy shit, that’s a large pantry. Coming from a rich family, everything we had was fairly large. But because this was funded by both Togami Corp. and our family company, they were able to provide me—or us, with large spaces that were bigger than the both of us really needed. Not to mention, the pantry was stocked. Every little crevice was filled.
I continued checking everything else in the kitchen. As expected, they were all of the highest quality.
Well, that was the kitchen.
I continued to explore the mansion, and ended up in the living room, which was a short-lived adventure. There was also a mini aquarium in there, which was really neat. A few fish there, and they looked to be generously fed. The TV was also huge, so was the sofa. Again, everything was great.
After spending most of the day looking around the house, I had actually met the two butlers and the private chef. There were workers in the house, but they just happened to be in other places while I was checking the house out. I also found out there were two butlers for both me and Togami, which I guess is more convenient.
It was evening time now, which was also now supper-time.
I sat down at the dining table, which was also quite large, but in length. I waited for the meal. The meal arrived, but Byakuya hadn’t showed up yet. I looked to my butler, Hayashi, “Is Togami going to eat here?” I asked.
Hayashi shook his head, “Apologies, Mrs. Togami, Mr. Togami requested his meal be sent to his room,” and I looked at him, almost dead-pan. I forgot that I was now ‘Mrs. Togami.’ “Of course he did,” I said. “Thank you. Tell the chef I said thanks as well,” I told Hayashi.
I ate my meal, and ate well. It was filling, and also tasty.
This routine would continue for a while, with the occasional visit to the library instead of just walking around the house doing nothing. But today was different.
As I entered the library, I was unintentionally met with a familiar face.
It was Togami. He was sitting down, legs crossed, and reading some book about finance. We had gone nearly a week without contact since the wedding. He looked up, his once calm looking face turned cold as he stared at me.
“Why are you here?” Togami asked, his tone still rude. “I could ask you the same. Thought you’d be cooped up inside your room again,” I muttered the last sentence. He cocked his head up, “What did you say?”
I sighed. This is going to be a pain in the ass.
Togami stared at me. “Nothing,” I responded. He rolled his eyes, and continued to read his book. Unbelievable, I thought to myself. I walked over to the shelves, and began searching. It was silent for a while, until Byakuya finally spoke. “(Y/N),” he said sharply, setting his book down while it was open so he wouldn’t lose the page. “What are you looking for?”
I stared at him. “(Y/FAVBOOK),” I mumbled to him as he approached. He looked up at the higher shelves, the ones I couldn’t reach. “Here,” he said, taking a book off the shelf and handing it to me. “An interesting choice,” he mumbled as he walked back to his seat.
I looked at the cover. . .at least he actually helped me get the book. He hadn’t done anything remotely nice to me, besides stay out of the way.
It’s going to be a while before I get used to this. . .

Chapter Text
Standing near the bookshelves, I brushed the dust off of the book, and watched as Togami walked back to his seat. I began stepping towards the exit before Togami blurted something out, I assume it was something that just slipped out of his mouth.
“I also like that author,” he muttered. I turned around to face him, and held the book nicely in my arms. I stared at him for a moment before finally deciding to sit down. He looked me up and down as I pulled a chair and sat, and anyone could easily tell that he was being judgmental. He was probably thinking, what is this girl doing?, but I was already sat comfortably. It couldn't hurt to try and talk.
I avoided looking into his eyes, they were cold and blue. . . “Really? What’s your favorite book from them?” I asked, trying to make small talk.
I was met with another bitter-like gaze. He uttered out, “The one you’re holding right now,” and looked away from me to pick his book back up. It was probably a sign that he was done talking to me, but I ignored it anyway.
“Me, too,” I said with a smile, attempting to be more thoughtful and kind. The room seemed to carry a thick air, filled with awkwardness and Togami’s dense aura. Was he always this tense? I didn’t know, but him staring at me like that really carried some uneasy feelings.
“That’s. . .nice,” he said. Oh. He’s being nice this time.
“Yeah, uhm,” I mumbled, “so what are you reading at the moment?” I gestured to the book in his hand. He looked at me blankly.
“It’s a book about business. Something you probably wouldn’t be interested in,” He said without hesitation. Okay, he was probably right, but that was just uncalled for. I scoffed under my breath, which easily earned me another blue eyed scowl. There was a moment of silence, before he said something again.
“My point exactly,” He said with a smug look on his face. It was almost annoying, seeing that smirk on his face.
“Okay, well, yeah. I’m not into reading books about business or money-handling,” I admitted, shrugging, “I prefer something more. . .I don’t know, entertaining? Like, fiction books,” I explained to him.
“Understandable,” he crossed his legs, still reading his book as the both of us talked. It had been a while since the both of us had an actual conversation together, usually a snarky comment or two, but it was pretty nice for a change to actually talk to him. There was another moment of quietness, but it wasn’t as tense as it was before. Togami didn’t lift his eyes off of the book pages.
I opened up the book. I’ve read this book multiple times, my absolute favorite story. Togami looked up for a moment to see me open the book, then quickly shifted his gaze back to his book before I even noticed.
“I didn’t know you also read this author,” I told him, fidgeting with my leg as it quickly bounced up and down, tapping my foot on the floor. A sigh escaped his lips.
“The same to you,” he said simply.
“So. . .uhm. . .” I muttered quietly, not sure of what to say next. Togami closed his book shut, and looked at me, then his watch.
There was a pause before he said anything, but he continued to speak, “I’ll be going. I have a meeting,” he told me.
“Oh, okay. Bye,” I said quietly, the awkwardness hanging in the air as Togami left.
It was a bit lonely without company here, but it felt much more comfortable than sitting here in silence with Togami. I continued to read until Hayashi called me over for supper-time, halfway finished with the book.
It was another uneventful dinner, Togami absent from the dinner table—again.
Another filling meal, and I thanked Hayashi and the chef. I heard a car pull up in the driveway, which obviously was Togami. How long was that meeting?, I thought to myself. Before he entered, I walked upstairs and to the door of my room to continue reading, before I was stopped.
“(Y/N),” Togami’s tone was sharp as ever. “There will be a celebration tomorrow at 7:00 P.M. Be ready before then,” he told me.
A celebration? I thought to myself. “Is it for the company fusion?” I asked.
“Right on. Make sure you look your best," Togami nodded, "Good night, (Y/N),” he said, and headed towards the dinner table to go ahead and eat his dinner.
“. . .Good night,” I told him before walking to my room and shutting the door. I walked towards my desk and turned on the lamp, and sat down to continue reading before getting a good night’s rest. Tomorrow is an important day, and I have to make sure I look presentable.
Notes:
Told you it was short. I really hope that I’ll be able to make the next chapter longer! I’m also sad, there’s rarely any Byakuya stuff online!!! Byakuya fans, RISE UP!
