Work Text:

"Well, I think that's it." Sarge turned to Grif and Simmons, throwing in another piece of the Meta's armor into the bonfire they had going.

"Is this.. really the end? Am I never gonna see you guys again?" Simmons asked, turning his head to face Sarge, then to face Grif.

"Probably not. Knowing us, we'd end up getting up to more tomfuckery." Grif said, drawing in the sand of Blood Gulch.

The trio heard a pelican land, and out ran Donut, Doc, Washington and Carolina. "Hey Guys!" Donut called, before gasping. "You're having a party without me?"

"I guess you can say that. Come on, Donut, get yourself a drink." Sarge pushed the cooler towards Donut, who 'Ooh'd' in excitement, grabbing a bottle of wine and two glasses, one for him and another for Carolina.

"Is that blue team?" Simmons cocked his head, and everyone turned to see Caboose, Tucker, and Sister walking towards the bonfire.

"Hey fuckers!" Tucker called, and sat down next to Grif. Caboose and Sister found their own spots around the fire, and Wash and Doc joined in. They were soon joined by Lopez, Sheila (put in her own robot body, of course), and 479er, (who tried to deny multiple times but Wash insisted.) and spent the rest of the night laughing with each other.

When the morning sun rose, Wash got everything packed into the Pelican. "We're good, 479er, just gotta get the others."

"Gotcha!" 479er gave him a thumbs up, and began to spin in her chair, waiting for Wash to tell her when to go.

"So many memories here.." Doc sighed, before twitching slightly.

"Yes! So much Bloodshed! Hahaha!" O'Malley laughed, before returning the body to Doc.

"I'm gonna miss Church, Tucker." Caboose looked at Tucker, Blue eyes meeting brown eyes. Tucker chuckled, reaching up to ruffle Caboose's brown hair.

"Well, I hope you realize that he's proud of ya, Caboose." Tucker smiled, and Caboose laughed.

"Well, this is it. We're going back home." Simmons said, standing on the top of red base with Grif for the last time.

"Seems like it. Hey, we never did answer that question, right?" Grif asked, turning to the red-haired soldier in Maroon.

"What question?" Simmons cocked his head.

"You know, why are we here?" Grif said, and Simmons' eyes widened.

"Oh! Well, I think I know the answer." Simmons picked up his helmet, tucking it under his arm.

"Then tell me, great Simmons of wisdom. Why are we here?" Grif joked, and Simmons laughed.

"I don't actually know, but... at least, I got to be here with you guys. In a box canyon, in the middle of nowhere." Simmons smiled, and Grif snorted.

"Stop being so sappy, Simmons!" Sarge startled the two, and put his arms around their shoulders. "Come on, we got a pelican to ride!"

"Come on, Grif, you're gonna miss the return party! There'll be food!" Sister called, and Grif snapped upright, and ran towards the pelican.

"Grif! Wait!" Sarge yelled, and Grif turned to face him.

"What is it, Sarge?'' Grif asked, raising an eyebrow.

"I'm proud of ya, Grif. Always have been." Sarge smiled, seeing the emotion swell in Grif's eyes as he was crushed in an embrace.

"Thank you, Sarge." Grif said, and he wiped the tears from his eyes, and headed onto the Pelican.

"Well, this is it. Leaving Blood Gulch forever." Simmons turned to Sarge. Simmons, however, didn't expect a hug from Sarge.

"Just so you know, Simmons.. I'm proud of ya.. Son." Simmons could feel the floodgates burst as Sarge handed him a piece of paper, which Simmons took, with a shaking hand.

"This certificate acknowledges that Super Colonel Sarge, has a... adopted, Richard Simmons, effective immediately." Simmons read, as he felt Sarge bring him into another embrace.

"I guess that means you can call me dad, now." Sarge smiled, and Simmons nodded.

"I guess so, Dad." Simmons smiled back at the older soldier.

"Come on! Get on, you two!" Carolina called, and Sarge and Simmons ran onto the pelican, leaving Blood Gulch forever.
