Work Header

Star-crossed lovers, Eugene and Rapunzel

Summary:

"Two households, both alike in dignity,
In fair Corona, where we lay our scene,
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,
Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean."
- Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare.

-------

Eugene just couldn't get over Stalyan. Why would she choose to be single all her life? Such a waste of a beautiful woman!

Rapunzel never wanted to get married. She knew her parents would eventually arrange a marriage, but that would mean settling down. She just wants to explore.

--------
Or

Romeo and Juliet but make it Tangled. I had this idea because we're reading R&J in English. Some of this is just for shits and giggles. Some parts might be more serious.

Maximus is the prince.
Pascal is the nurse.

This is also my first fic so don't be mean or smth.

Notes:

I can't write so don't expect this to be the most wonderous piece of fiction alright

I'm also a giant troll so like the beginning of this chapter and some other parts is just gonna be plain nonsense.

_______

Main cast:

Romeo: Eugene
Juliet: Rapunzel
Friar: Xavier
Nurse: Pascal
Benvolio: Varian

Chapter 1: Monty gets a POV

Chapter Text

Look, Monty prides himself on how kind and caring and patient. He is. He’s a nice guy, really. But when it comes to those damn Der Sonne’s, well, he isn't. Every time he sees one he has to stop himself from punching them square in the face. And of course, they were approaching right now.

“Hey Monty, let's bite our thumbs at them. Show ‘em whose boss, ya know?” Feldspar, a fellow servant of the Fitzherbert house, suggested.

'That’s a stupid idea', Monty thought.

“Let’s do it.”

As the few servants of Der Sonne passed, they noticed them biting their thumbs and stopped. Two buff looking men and one small girl- probably a maid- looking at them uncomfortably.

“Do you bite your thumbs at us, sir?” The guy with the helmet covering his face asked. He was big and buff and had an apron and gloves on.

“Of course not,” Feldspar started, “I can assure you that we do not bite our thumb at you. However we do bite our thumb.”

The guy got angry. Monty never bothered knowing the Der Sonne’s names except for the ones he really hated. Rapunzel, for instance. She made his blood boil. He’s practically told the whole kingdom about that time she redesigned the Coronan seal of approval. The seal! And nobody cared! They just called him crazy! If he could hit a woman, he’d beat the crap out of her. What a horrible thing to think, right? Well she's a Der Sonne anyways so it doesn't matter. The Feud between houses ages back for decades and-

His thoughts were interrupted when someone punched him in his shoulder. No doubt a Der Sonne. He punched back at the person in front of him, a man with a hook for a foot. He punched him in the head and the hook man fell backwards before catching himself and drawing a sword. Good thing Monty always carried a knife with him.

The hook guy slashed at him but the blade was blocked by Monty’s knife.

“Nice try, hook foot!” He taunted.

“How do you know my name?”

“What?”

In the split second that he was confused, Hookfoot took this opportunity to kick his feet, causing Monty to lose his balance. He slashed back at Hookfoot with his knife, successfully drawing blood from his shoulder. Hookfoot hissed and his face contorted. He glared at Monty and began to swing his sword again. Monty swiftly dodges it.

He took the chance to take a quick look at his surroundings. Apparently more people joined the fight. Varian had tried to calm everyone down but Cassandra had distracted him, causing him to lose focus. He hadn't noticed that the maid had left.

He dodges another swing.

Suddenly, he heard trumpets, and everyone froze. Prince Maximus, the most respected and intelligent horse in all of Corona, trotted towards the group. He stopped in front of Varian, and neighed. No doubt asking for an explanation. Out of all the Fitzherberts, everyone knew that varian was the most truthful. Sure he can act a bit mad once and a while, but he never lied.

“They started it.” He quickly said, pointing to Cassandra.

“Liar!”

“Nuh-uh!”

Maximus neighed again, this time pissed. He gestured to Varian with his head, telling him to continue.

“It was like this when I got here,” Varian said, “I tried to break it up but she distracted me.” he glared at Cassandra.

Maximus looked to Cassandra. She scoffed.

“Oh whatever! It’s not like he was even making a difference anyway.” She crossed her arms.

Maximus gave her a look that said, I'm done with this shit. And did a bunch of gestures with his hooves and head as he neighed. Varian gasped and nodded. Cassandra nodded slightly and rolled her eyes.

Maximus trotted off.

Varian told all the Fitzherberts what the Prince had told him. If they were to fight again, there would be large consequences. 'Death', Monty thought. Oh well.

__________

Varian knew they'd eventually fight again. It was only a matter of time, but right now he was focused on Eugene. His dad asked where he was after the fight. He admitted to seeing him escape into the forest earlier. There has been something noticeably different about Eugene lately. He seemed more gloomy.

He hears footsteps and turns to look. Approaching him is Eugene, his head hung low. Of course, now, he approaches. Of course he didn't have to get interrogated by Prince Maximus. It wouldn't matter if he was there anyway. For some reason Maximus has a soft spot for him.

“Morning, Eugene.” Varian greeted as he got closer. His response was a groan as he lifted his head.

“Is it really that early?” Eugene ran a hand through his brown hair.

“Yup. You look awful, have you had breakfast?” Varian asked.

“I can't eat. Not now.” Eugene sighed.

“What's wrong? You're crush turned you down to something?” Varian joked. He’s been obsessed with this girl Stalyan for a while now.

“How’d you know?” Oh.

“Just a guess,” Varian answered honestly. “It’s Stalyan, right?”

“Yeah..” Eugene hung his head. “She’s just so beautiful but she wants to stay single. Forever!”

“Is that such a bad thing? I want to stay single forever.” Varian said. It’s true. He doesn't want a partner. He's never had any romantic feelings for anyone, so he's concluded that he won't ever get married. That, or maybe he just hasn't found the right one yet.

“But that’s different, Varian. You’re a guy.” Varian didn't know how to feel about that response. Something about it made him uncomfortable.

“Just let her do her own thing. Let's just get your mind off of her for now”

“What do you have in mind?” Eugene lifted his head, eyebrow raised.

“How about we just walk around the town. There's bound to be some hotter chicks around here somewhere.” Varian suggested.

“I don't know….”

“I could ask Lance if he could tag along too, you know.” Lance was Varian and Eugene’s best friend. He made everyone's day better.

“Oh alright” Eugene reluctantly agreed. “But only if Lance comes along. No offense, cuz, but I don't think you alone would be enough.”

“No biggie.” Varian giggled.

They started towards where Lance lives
