"Ruth?"
"Yep?" She called to the source of noise, not taking her eyes off the lights. She only had two hours to make sure they were perfect before the shows opening night.
"What are you doing?"
"Oh, hi, Steph." She looked up for a second. "Setting up the lights for the show tonight."
"Sounds cool."
"It is." She nodded.
"How are you?" She sat down on the chair by the desk, crossing her legs.
"Me?" She was surprised. Only Richie ever asked how she was. "I'm okay. How are you?"
"Still pretty shaken after what happened..." She spoke quietly. "I know we shouldn't talk about it, but it's all I can think about."
"Oh." She frowned. "I know. I keep seeing him."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah." She nodded. "But it's better now. I know that's horrible to say, but it is."
"Less bullying."
"Exactly."
"Ruth?"
"Mhm?"
"You're bisexual, right?"
"Yeah?"
"How did you know?"
Ruth froze.
Steph looked at her.
"You're questioning?"
"Yeah."
"Any reason?"
"I like boys."
"Pete."
"Maybe." She blushed. "But I have had feelings for girls before."
"Oh."
"I was wondering if you could... help me."
"Help you?"
"Can I kiss you?"
Ruth might have died then and there.
"Yes."
Steph stood and pulled her into her arms, lips meeting Ruth tentatively.
Ruth nervously put her hands on Steph's hips.
Steph put hers on Ruth's shoulders.
Ruth had expected it to be brief. But no.
Minutes passed, and Ruth was pinned against the wall, still kissing.
Steph's hands trailed down to the bottom of Ruth's jumper, and then under. Her hand's were warm and comforting.
Ruth pulled off her jumper then, after considering it for a second, her t-shirt. Now in just her bra, she felt Steph's eyes rake over her.
Steph pulled her back into the kiss, her warm hands exploring Ruth's body.
Ruth softly tugged at Steph's shirt, questioning.
Steph pulled her t-shirt over her head.
Ruth couldn't tear her eyes away.
Steph kissed harder than before.
They might have gone further, had they not heard the teacher coming to the door.
They hastily threw their shirts back on, and acted natural.
"Hey, Ruth." She opened the door. "Ms Lauter. Are the lights all set?"
"All good, Mrs." Ruth nodded.
"Great. We'll see you back thirty minutes before opening, okay?"
"Alright."
She was gone, leaving the teens alone in the room.
"Thank you, Ruth."
"It's no problem."
"See you around."
Stephanie left.
Ruth knew that this would never happen again, and tried not to mind.
Steph liked Pete. Pete was her best friend. She shouldn't have done that in the first place. Poor Pete.
But she was happy.
