Work Text:

There was no denying the unusual behavior Agent One displayed, but there were certainly some things that not even Agent Two could understand why her partner did. One of these things was how Agent One made it a point never to remove his glasses and though Agent Two wore hers frequently, she truly couldn't remember the last time he had seen One with them off. This bit of remembrance got Agent Two to thinking and soon her curiosity began to get the best of her, deciding that she just had to know what he was hiding underneath those glasses.

Knowing Agent One would never willingly take his glasses off, Agent Two knew she'd need to go about things differently to get what she wanted. She knew the only way those glasses were going to come off was if she made them come off, but luckily she had a plan.

One thing Agent Two did know that would work in her favor was how Agent One had a bad habit of overworking himself. Due to this, it wasn't all too common to find Agent One asleep at his desk, and with that in mind, it was only when he got tired enough, vulnerable enough, that she decided to strike. She knew he'd be off his game and nowhere focused enough to be able to stop her. It was perfect.

“I'll be damned if I let those demon freaks get the best of me again..” Agent One muttered to himself, going over file after file. “Just need to get these designs—”

Not having been noticed, Agent Two was quick to give the signal to her assistant and, sure enough, Agent One was hit in the back of the head with one of the practice balls that were used for target practice. The hit wasn't nearly hard enough to cause any real damage at such a range, but it certainly was enough to throw him off his guard and send his precious shades flying.

“Damnit—” Agent One cursed, quickly glancing back to see where the hit had come from.

“My bad!” The assistant of Agent Two yelled.

With his glasses off, Agent Two could finally understand why Agent One made such an effort to hide his eyes behind glasses. The dark circles around his eyes were not only notable but downright concerning. The man looked like he hadn't slept in days and in truth there was no doubt in her mind that he really hadn't. It was a wonder how he managed to function at all with how tired he looked.

“She certainly needs to work on her aim..” Agent One mentioned, picking up his glasses once again. “If that was an actual gun I would be dead by now.”

“You look..” Agent Two began, a feeling of hesitance present within her tones. “..really tired.”

“I uh..” Agent One stammered, adjusting his glasses. “I didn't get much sleep last night..”

“I don't think you ever do, do you?” Agent Two acknowledged, not really asking. “Is that why you hide behind those glasses?”

“We.. We should get back to work. “ Agent One countered weakly, averting his gaze. “This conversation is done.”

With the horrors they had carried with them and the weight of the preservation of life itself resting on their shoulders it was a wonder that any of them slept. There was no denying the tired eyes he hid behind those glasses nor the reason behind them. Agent Two couldn't help but feel a faint sense of regret for making her partner face what was already apparent.

He was tired..

..so tired.
