SHES ANNOUNCING OUR PARTNERS. 

Bruce shoves his phone into his pocket, glancing up and putting his full focus on the teacher as she announces the groups. He's praying that he gets put with Finney and Billy, or at least with a group that won't make him do all the work in this project. 

He might actually lose his shit if that happens again.

"Now, I'll be putting the assigned groups on the screen but first," Mrs. Diaz claps her hands together and Bruce rolls his eyes. He's used to her dramatic flare, but it's still a bit annoying. 

"Do remember that this is a year-round project, there's no changing partners," Bruce groans under his breath, that was expected, but still disappointing. "And you choose the topic, any topic as long as it revolves world history, you understand class?" 

Bruce muttered out a, "Yes, miss" along with the rest of the class, "Okay, you can change seats to be with your group, the assigned groups are on the screen." Mrs. Diaz walks off to her desk, to do god knows what.  

Bruce looks ahead at the screen, glancing over all the assigned groups until he finds the one he is. It takes a few seconds.

"Bruce Yamada, Finney Blake, Billy Showalter..." Bruce mutters, a small grin forming on his face as he reads off the names of his friends. Thank god I got put with some capable people, "..Vance Hopper, Robin Arellano, Griffin Stagg..." He finished, eyes wide and the small grin that had formed quickly disappeared.

"No fucking way." Bruce mutters, his voice filled with shock, "No motherfucking way." 

Either this was fate or the teacher wanted to humiliate them. 

Bruce figures it was the latter because the dead silence where they were currently sitting was the most painfully embarrassing thing he has ever endured, and he tripped during an assembly in front of everybody once.

"So, the project?" Billy starts, and Bruce takes back every hateful thing he's ever said in the group chat, "Yeah, does anyone have like any idea what we're gonna do it about?" Bruce jumps on, glancing around the small circle of desk they've shifted to be able to sit next to each other. 

"No idea." Robin speaks up, shaking his head. Bruce looks over at Finney and he swears he has heart eyes right now.  

"I have an idea.." Griffin mumbles, his voice barely audible, the reason Bruce was able to hear him was because he was only a seat distance away from the boy, Billy took the seat in between them.

"Oh yeah? What do you got in mind?" Billy asked, taking the chance to talk to his crush at least once in his life. Bruce noticed a small, pinkish flush forming on Griffin's cheeks.

Huh so maybe Billy does stand a chance , he thought. 

Honesty Bruce would absolutely love to have the chance to talk to Vance but the blond hasn't spoken once since they've sat down.

"Uh, so what if we based our project off The Seven Years' War?" Griffin suggested. Bruce hummed and nodded but Billy spoke before he could. 

"Shit, that's an amazing idea, way better than what I had in mind." Billy grinned, "You're smart, like really smart."

Bruce winced, because one, that was a really shitty attempt of flirting, and two, that was Billy flirting? Is he actually shooting his shot?

And with how Griffin's cheeks flushed a soft red, it was somehow working. What god did Billy pray to because how did that work?

"Oh, thanks.." Griffin mumbles out, very clearly flustered. Billy was about to open his mouth when the bell rang. 

"Hey, before we leave, we should like exchange phone numbers for the project, y'know?" Robin explains. "Yeah, that's a good idea!" Finney says, speaking up for the first time in this class. 

And so we exchanged phone numbers. There's absolutely nothing that can go wrong.

Oh who am I kidding, everything can go wrong, Bruce thought.
