Chapter Text

A soft whir filled the air, as air was blown onto your body. Staring at your ceiling that at this point was starting to look more yellow than the white you always assumed it was, though your apartment was pretty old. It wouldn’t be shocking if the color had changed over the years. It was the weekend so you didn’t have to go into work today, though you can’t imagine it would be anymore interesting than staring at the yellowing ceiling. Staring at a screen, typing at a keyboard putting information into a system you couldn’t really bother to care about.

Sitting up straight you tapped at your phone checking the time, 2 pm. It wasn’t hot enough to worry about a walk being uncomfortable and you really should try to at least get back into walking. Not to mention, it’s not like you had anything better to do. You were pretty much waiting for all your main interests to start back up again, a thought that made you roll your eyes. Pocketing your phone you peeled yourself from your couch, and without much thought you went outside. It would be a quick walk, and than you could come home and treat yourself to some daydreaming again.

So maybe you should have checked the weather before heading out, currently you found yourself attempting to shelter yourself from the heavy rain under some trees which was not really working out. Not that you expected some flimsy trees to offer you much protection, though the thunder echoing in the air really didn’t offer any better options. You weren’t too far from your apartment, just ten minutes. Already you can hear your online friends and mother scolding you for being reckless, but what’s the worst that could happen?

Stepping out you immediately feel the rain hitting your bare arms and drenching your outfit, you’d definitely have to change and shower if you didn’t want a cold. But you could do that when you weren’t at risk of becoming a human lightning pole, starting to speed walk in hopes to make your time spent in the rain lower. Perhaps you should have taken your luck into consideration though, you always did bring the worst luck with you. You could even joke it was the world’s immune system trying to get rid of you, though that’s all it ever was. A joke. Yet somehow in a second you felt an intense burst of pain. Hot, white, burning pain in your entire body. Before you could even react you were unconscious, at least somewhat.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The moment of unconsciousness was interrupted by a soft light, a woman’s silhouette. You were really praying you weren’t in a coma or actually dead, you had things you wanted to see before you passed on. The woman was hard to see, she seemed so fuzzy yet familiar although you were certain you didn’t know her. Her words being blurry in your head, hard to place exactly though she was clearly talking to you. Any attempt to nod or move was met with complete refusal from your body, assuming you had a body right now.

The woman seemed to be amused by this and smiled, that was one of the few things you could see clearly. At least she wasn’t upset with you? Maybe? Probably? Hopefully. She seemed to continue talking for a few seconds, though this seemed more to herself. Normally you would zone out and return to your thoughts when you couldn’t properly hear or understand people, but something deep down told you that you had to try and hear her.

“Let’s fix you, hmm?” Hearing her voice felt, wrong. Like her voice wasn’t meant for you to be heard despite your brain having urged you to try. They way she smiled was like she knew you had heard her, moving her hand and letting her fingers brush your cheek. It didn’t feel like much besides the feeling of her hand, yet you shivered like a chill had been sent down your body despite the lacking cold feeling. Than she pressed her finger to your forehead, her face clearing for a moment. An unfamiliar yet beautiful woman, she was amused.

“Good luck, ‘child’.”

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Gasping for air as your hand clutched at your chest, you felt the moist fabric of your t-shirt. But it didn’t feel drenched from the rain like you should have been and you weren’t sitting on concrete but rather a bench. Your mind was racing with thoughts, too many to even begin to start looking for answers. Tightening your grip on the fabric of your shirt you attempted to steady your breathing and calm down, your eyes jolting around as you looked at the both familiar and unfamiliar scenery.

A park, you didn’t live near a park. At least not one like this. Not a park in a city that looked as advanced as this one. However, the buildings in the city looked familiar.

They looked just like the buildings from Lego Monkie Kid, the show you’d been waiting for to release another season. Season five in particular, letting your hand drop from your shirt you stared at the buildings.

A dream! This had to be some weird dream, right? When you were dreaming clocks wouldn’t be accurate, you think. You really didn’t look too deep into lucid dreaming considering it wasn’t your cup of tea. Fumbling for a few seconds you tugged your phone out of your pocket tapping at the screen, it read the time clearly. So maybe that was just a stupid thing people were saying online, when you dream you can’t feel pain! Letting your phone drop to your lap you pinched the skin on your arms and cursed softly.

“Fuck, ok so it’s real. I’m really in… Oh god I got isekaied!” You exclaimed staring at your hands, you looked completely normal so that would explain why you didn’t clock anything immediately.

…Oh god, you weren’t sure you wanted to risk knowing what the characters looked like when they weren’t legos… How terrifying would it be standing next to Sandy or seeing Pigsy, after all even attempting to imagine a mostly pig anthro felt odd.

“Wait… Am I homeless?”

Notes:

yippee!!! first chapter technically even if it's just a prologue and no canon characters have been met technically. added scorpion & spider queen to the love interest list (thanks to my friend who helped me come up with their little quotes).

i do wanna say here and now before i go further, i do use these kinds of writings to explore characters and how i want to write them. so if you notice the personalities seeming a bit inconsistent for the first couple instances its because i'm figuring out how i wanna portray the characters! otherwise, i hope you enjoyed the prologue and thanks to the ten people who have already added this to their libraries.

shine so bright that it burns their fucking eyes

A little digging around here and there revealed a few things, like that you still had your phone. However, although it seemed intact something was wrong when you went past the lock screen. Certain apps seemed corrupted and nonexistent, pictures from your world were glitched out only you being visible, and even phone numbers of your friends and family had vanished. It was like you weren’t allowed to return to your home even if you desired to. Though one contact kept catching your eye ‘Lady Yu’, not a name you particularly recognized.

Glancing up from your phone screen you looked at the city around you, you’d made the decision to head towards the buildings you recognized. If you could bring yourself to a familiar area, or even a place maybe you’d be able to figure out where to go from here. Being isekaied was a bit more stressful than it seemed in your shows, house hunting was hard enough in your world. But in a world where the culture wasn’t one they were used to. Tapping your screen unconsciously you twisted your head around trying to get a feel for the area you felt contact with something that certainly felt more alive than a pole or a wall. Fumbling with your phone you looked up.

Oh. You looked up . You knew Sandy would be tall but you definitely felt tiny next to him, you could only imagine how much bigger the other large characters would be like. The hairs on the back of your neck seemed to stand up, possibly due to not knowing how to react though you were certain your eyes had definitely widened.

Then he looked down at you, his own look of slight surprise flashing for a moment before he seemed to offer a friendly smile. Despite your worries he naturally seemed to make you relax, you knew Sandy wouldn’t hurt you after all! But it was still surprising enough that you were falling into some pretty cliche tropes… but you suppose Sandy was definitely a safer option than some of the villains that are existing around. You can’t even imagine what you’d do if you somehow ran into Red Son or the Not Mayor… just the thought could make yous shiver.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t see you at all. You’re not hurt at all or anything right?” His voice was laced with what seemed to be genuine concern, it made your heart seem to pause for a moment. Socializing was… not exactly your strong suit, at least face to face wise. You either gave too much away or too little, at least according to everyone who’d met you. Taking a deep breath in through your nose you nodded, before speaking up in response.

“Yeah, yeah I’m good.” A split second of debate in your mind decided that he could probably point you to the best place for you to be right now. After all, his character was supposed to be willing to help out people. You may feel a little weird about using information about people against them, but its not like you had any bad intentions. “Actually, would you be willing to help me out with finding something? I’m a bit… lost, I guess you could say?” Your head seemed to loll to the side as you waited for a response, one you knew would almost certainly be yes but your brain couldn’t help but tell you he’d be too busy.

“I can certainly try my best to point you in the right direction, what are you trying to find?” With those words you immediately let out a sigh of relief returning your full attention to him, that smile was so friendly and warm. No wonder he was a part of the protagonist’s team, he was a pretty great role model for kids to have. As you opened your mouth to respond, your phone vibrated in your hand. Glancing down your brows furrowed, there didn’t feel like any reason for you to be getting notifications. Sending Sandy a quick apologetic look you tapped your phone screen.

‘Lady Yu has sent you a message. Would you like to open it?’

Right, the only contact you had that you never remembered putting in your phone. Chewing on the inside of your cheek you tapped the message notification and opened it up. An address. This ‘Lady Yu’ had sent you an address. Her accompanying words didn’t make this whole thing seem less creepy either.

‘This will be your home, the rest is up to you.’

The rest is up to you? What kind of cryptic- you took a deep breath pinching the bridge of your nose, maybe you shouldn’t be questioning the weird lady in your phone. If you knew anything about isekai situations it was that most people who got isekaied had some weird electronic guide, maybe yours was this ‘Lady Yu’.

“This place, I’m moving in but I got lost. Do you know where it is?” You lifted your phone up to show Sandy, though honestly you expected him to grab the phone for a better look. Not bend down to your screen’s height, he really was super tall. Made you wonder if he’d ever accidentally tripped over someone or something, being that tall cannot be easy.

Standing up he seemed to have a look of thought before appearing like he’d found whatever he was looking for. Turning around he threw a smile over his shoulder. “This way, I know the area. The walk isn’t too far so you probably just got turned around, it happens.”

He began to walk in the direction he was facing and you blinked before realizing you definitely needed to follow him. Shoving your phone into your hoodie’s pocket you stumbled before catching up to him. He seemed to be taking smaller strides to accompany the height difference, thoughtful but expected. You couldn’t help but keep glancing around, this part just looked like any old city just with a touch of the Lego Monkie Kid universe to it. That and it also wasn’t as loud as most cities, it seemed peaceful. Well, for now that is. You’d really have to figure out if anything from the show had happened yet or not, if so you’d have to keep an eye out for any of those big events. You weren’t sure you wanted to pull a real isekai MC move and get dragged into big plot points.

Sandy managed to keep small talk, he didn’t seem to mind that you answered a few of his questions vaguely. You weren’t sure if he was under the impression that you were shy, anxious, paranoid, or a mix of the three but it was appreciated that he never pushed you to elaborate. Finally, you arrived at said address. It looked to be like any other house in the area, clearly a more residential part of the area.

“There you go, right where you needed to be. I have to get back to my place soon though, can’t leave my cats alone for too long.” His words snapped out out of wondering how you were going to get into your house, panicking for a moment you fumbled to get your phone out of your pocket again. Nervously holding out to him.

“Could I get your number, in case I need help again. You don’t have to if that’s weird though, I know we’re strangers after all.” Before you could keep rambling he smiled with what sounded like a slight laugh as he took your phone from your hand, despite the obvious size difference you weirdly enough didn’t feel like you were tiny compared to him. It felt like you both took up the same amount of space in the world, like you were both equally important here.

You enjoyed his company, you guess the show wasn’t really lying when they implied that Sandy was a comforting figure. When he finished he placed your device back into your hands with a short greeting as he walked away. You weakly lifted your other hand in a wave goodbye even if he couldn’t see it.

Now the house… how were you supposed to get in? You walked up and tried the doorknob feeling that it was locked. So there was a key, a key that you did not have. As you realized this another text message was sent to your phone, like this ‘Lady Yu’ person knew exactly what you were doing.

‘Doormat.’

You stared at the message with a neutral expression, and she couldn’t have let you know this sooner because? Though you kneeled down finding the key with ease. Slipping your phone back into your pocket you unlocked the door and pushed it open. Looking inside you were greeted with the bare minimum and a lot of dust.

“I hate cleaning…”

Chapter Text

splish splash, you’re opinion is trash

It’d been a good few weeks now, maybe. You never really were good at gauging time, at least when it came to how long you’d been at something. Though within these few weeks, you’d managed to get a bit more of an understanding, kind of, of your role here. You were some poor schmuck that’d been thrown into the world of Lego Monkie Kid who appeared to have been brought here by some powerful being that called herself ‘Lady Yu’. Yet since you got placed in the house you hadn’t received any more messages from her.

Though you did manage to keep in contact with Sandy, after a good few minutes of debating whether or not you should get close to a main character that is. He was very sweet, it felt weird to imagine that he was genuinely this nice with no ulterior motives. Though that was his character… which felt weird to continue to think. He was a real person now, just as much as you even if you did know exactly what his future was like.

Yet despite everything, here you found yourself in Sandy’s houseboat with one cat lounging over your shoulders as Sandy proceeded to make you tea in his kitchen. This had been the usual routine when you’d come over, he’d let you in and offer you tea as one of his therapy cats would find you to be the perfect resting place. However, Sandy did have many things to say even asking about how you adapted to the new place. You noticed you’d stumble through your responses a bit at first, though now that you’d become accustomed to it the answers came out easier.

“You seem like you’ve gotten more comfortable these past weeks, that’s nice to see. I was pretty worried since you seemed really nervous in the beginning.” You honestly, weren’t that surprised he picked up on it. However, you couldn’t help but feel embarrassed that it was so obvious, especially knowing that Sandy gave you no reason to be nervous. The cat seemed to pick up on this and nudged your cheek with its head, the cats really knew how to do their job. Lifting your hand you used a finger to rub their cheek with a small smile.

“It was that obvious?” Your tone contained hints of joking to it, but you were a bit flustered that he picked up on it so easily. His smile towards you at least relieved any feeling that your somewhat closed-off behavior at first wasn’t a problem. You really were lucky to have met him first out of any character you could have run into. “But yeah, I’ve been settling in well. Even got myself a job.”

You thought back to the job you had, it was nothing special but it at least allowed you to afford the necessities to survive besides your house. You worked for this older woman in her bookstore, she did most of the desk work while you had basically become her physical laborer. Putting the books back if they got moved, carrying the boxes, and dealing with the orders of new books were all left to you. She seemed to not want any other workers and explained it off as just preferring not to have to worry about paying workers. Despite her aloof behavior, she was strict about you not getting sick, it was sweet in its own way.

“Based on your face I assume you like this work too, that’s nice. You always want a job where you can enjoy your time there.” You zoned back in to find him placing the teacup into your hands, the warmth being felt through the cup. You smiled as you let it sit there, you always gave it a few minutes to cool down. You nodded in response to Sandy’s words, it was nice to have a job that didn’t just feel like something you had to do.

But you were starting to wonder, when were the series events going to start? Assuming you’ve even appeared before Season 1, but based on Sandy’s behavior and the houseboat’s state you have to be here before he met MK and the others. Thumbing the side of the cup you wondered if you really wanted to risk getting dragged into this sort of stuff. You kind of enjoyed the peaceful life you had, but you supposed even if you weren’t involved directly the episodes would still have some effect on you.

At some point later you had to go grab something further in the boat for Sandy, yet when you came back you heard voices. Familiar voices… oh. You really jinxed yourself, didn’t you? You held the container of tea leaves feeling your hands get a bit clammy, so you simply tried to sneak into the kitchen to place the tea down. You were almost certain you’d managed to avoid being spotted until you heard Sandy.

“My friend here can vouch for the therapy cats too, Coco’s been very fond of ‘em.” You tensed up as the said cat lifted its head after hearing its name. A soft meow comes from it before resting its head back down with a soft purr as if trying to reassure you. You hesitantly raised a hand in an attempt to say hi. You hoped this didn’t mean you were going to be dragged into the pilot episode at all.

“Yeah, Coco’s good at what he does.” An instinctive response that came out pretty hushed as you gently bumped the cat’s head with your cheek feeling him nuzzle against you. The brief shock of the group seemed to last barely a second as you saw, who you could only assume was, MK and Mei get on their knees beginning to beg Sandy to take them to Flower Fruit Mountain. You sighed knowing exactly how your friend would respond, so you shifted Coco from your shoulders into your arms which caused the cat to eye you before settling into his new position.

“Alright, let’s get moving. But, I’m telling you, old friend. If things get hairy, I’ve changed. I don’t go around picking fights no more.” You looked over seeing Sandy directing his attention at Pigsy, seeing said man sigh in response. It made you smile a bit knowing that regardless of the change their friendship still seemed so close. “Mo, initiate the launch sequence!” Seeing as Mo leaped off of your friend’s shoulder made you sigh and take a seat yourself, hearing Mei’s confused repetition you let out a soft ‘snrk’ fully aware of what was going to happen.

Seeing Mo press the button you felt the boat start-up and tensed up as you realized, you were definitely going to at least be present for the events of the special. As time passed you all moved up to the top of the boat, you found yourself sitting leaning up against the white part towards the front of the ship. Normally you’d watched the water fly by just like how you watched the scenery pass by on cars, yet you found yourself watching MK mess around with the staff. It was just as amusing to watch in person compared to a screen.

“Halt evil monster! I must thwart thee! For I am the Monkey Ki- ahhh” You winced watching the staff extend and break the boat instead of Mei, instinctively you leaned closer to her spot and saw the expression she had from the show. Despite knowing she’d be fine you felt relief seeing that she wasn’t hurt at all.

“Wooo! That was awesome!” And there was her excitement as she jumped into the air and MK’s apology, though seeing him get smacked in the face caused you to cringe. Never mind, not amusing this was painful to watch in the moment. You were so glad that staff wasn’t directed at you, that looked like it hurt.

“We’re here! Flower Fruit Mountain! Ahhh!” The ending made you grip the area you were sitting in as you heard Pigsy and Tang shout in response, feeling the geyser hit you felt a sudden dread in your stomach. You should have stayed home today. You were starting to get scared for your safety despite knowing the only person who would be injured during all this would realistically be MK. Yet you felt your hand go and clutch at your shirt front, trying to calm your mind and your breathing.

When you managed to calm down you noticed Sandy turning to you, with Tang behind him seeming to also show a brief flash of concern on his face. How embarrassing, you knew these events were going to happen yet you still felt this fear like you were going to be the one in danger. You finally dropped your hand from your shirt and put on a smile to relieve any concern either of them had. Mostly because you certainly couldn’t explain that ‘Oh I just know everything that’s about to happen and have an underlying fear that I will die because I’m a normal person.’ You would sound absolutely insane.

Sandy asked a few times if you were alright but seemed to pick up on the fact that you weren’t willing to talk about your reaction to the incident. So now you found yourself basically told, even if Sandy wouldn’t force you to he did tell you, to sit on the couch next to Tang. You had your hands shoved into your jacket pockets as you tried to figure out how to pass the time.

“Did you meet Sandy recently?” Tang’s voice caught you off guard, you hadn’t spoken with him yet or really any of the others besides Sandy. Though you could understand where his question came from, Sandy didn’t specify that you were a pretty new friend of his. The Monkie Kids went into this thinking they were just going to gain Sandy, not this random person. You probably would have been curious too.

“Yeah, he helped me out when I moved to Megapolis. I usually visit him when I have free time now. He’s a great guy.” The response came out naturally, your voice wasn’t as soft as it was the first time you spoke it felt like you weren’t worried about saying something wrong. Sandy had become a familiar and trustworthy face to you, so it was easy to talk about and with him. You looked over at Tang who seemed to be looking at you with some kind of expression, though you weren’t quite sure what it was supposed to indicate. So you looked back down at your lap. “Sorry, that’s more than you asked about.”

“It’s the perfect amount of information, based on his personality it’s not that surprising you feel so comfortable with him.” His response made you chill out a bit, you chewed the inside of your cheek as you thought about your response. There wasn’t much else you had to say, but you didn’t want to sit in silence if you could help it. However, just as you began to ponder what topic to bring up, the light bulb in your brain lit up.

“Could you tell me about this Monkey King that the other guy was on about?” You knew Tang would take the bait, and you were right. Now here you were nodding along as he began to explain the story of the Monkey King to you. It was all information you knew, but you didn’t mind listening it certainly made waiting for Pigsy and Mei to come back way less boring. Not to mention, you kind of understood why MK listened so easily to him now.

You stood away from the group as you watched Pigsy, you felt bad knowing that they all truly believed that MK was gone for good. You remained silent knowing it was better to be respectful in this moment, it’s not like your less depressed state would be shocking. They don’t think you know enough to show much grief in this situation. You watched their reactions only showing occasional small reactions at certain wording or certain behaviors, it was Mei’s lightning that made you jolt.

Lightning… Your body felt warm, staticky, and tense. You remember the white-hot pain you felt before you awoke in this universe, you’d been so glad that you were able to avoid lightning since then. Yet Mei’s green lightning struck a sense of fear in you again, you didn’t want to die again. You weren’t supposed to die again, though you did briefly wonder if this ‘Lady Yu’ would’ve let you. She set everything up to have you here right?

You got snapped out of your thoughts when you felt Sandy tug you into the group hug with the others, tensing before relaxing. You rested your head against his arm with an almost soft laugh, you forgot he did this. But it helped, you needed the reminder that you would be fine. You were certain you’d be fine, it’s not like they’d let another person die in their minds.

“Then what are we waiting for? Let’s go stop some bad guys!” Right, shit. You looked over seeing Mei and Pigsy fist bump each other, you were so screwed. Did you look like a fighter? Nope! Maybe they’d drop you off somewhere else or let you stay on the boat.

Why did you keep having hope that you’d be free from the canon events? You found yourself clinging to either the seats of the delivery truck or Sandy during this entire thing. You hated this. Why couldn’t you have just been left on the boat with the cats? You would have done way better watching the cats and not having your heart feel like it’s about to explode.

You landed on the ground stumbling as you heard Red Son’s voice, oh you were about to become a burnt chicken nugget for real. You glanced at the others watching Mei and Pigsy do their thing, just as Mei began you blinked finding MK’s jet crashed… on Red Son. Right. You did not envy him right now, but you were glad that it didn’t kill him. Even if he’d probably be a pain in your ass for a while, he was still pretty funny.

“Kid!”

“MK! Oh my goodness! We saw you blast into the fire. I thought you were all like, ‘Phew, ahhh’ but you’re not.” Mei spoke as you joined Tang in poking Red Son with the stick, seeming to snicker a little at the sight. It’s not like you’d get to see this very often so you might as well enjoy it while you can. Sneakily snapping a picture on your phone before looking back at the group. “Where’d you get a jet? Way to trash it already. Wait! Monkey King, did you find him?” Right, Wukong. He had spoken to the guy already. You prepared yourself for the next words you’d hear.

“Yeah, I did!”

“So where is he?” You nodded along with Pigsy pretending like you had no idea that it was just going to be left to MK. You couldn’t act too nonchalant about all this, that could look a bit suspicious.

“He said it was up to me, to us”

“Well, that’s anticlimactic.” You nodded with Mei, though also frowned at the idea of helping with this kind of battle. You glanced with the others towards the Demon Bull King and grimaced, yeah you would get squashed like a bug. Personally, you would rather get hit by lightning again than squashed like you were an ant who made its way into someone’s house.

“And how are we meant to fight that?” You popped in with a quick ‘He’s got a point’ as you shrugged, you really hadn’t been much help except for managing to trick the bull clones into running into objects by turning last moment. Something that did take a lot of energy that you didn’t really want to give up.

“We believe in ourselves. You clean the streets. I’ll stop the Demon Bull King. Somehow.” You sighed looking over to the side, guess you were going to be doing a bit more running. Fun, not really. You watched as MK found the speed bike and rode off. You sighed and stretched preparing yourself to go running… again. You were so lucky you hadn’t tripped on any misplaced rocks yet.

You were hunched over, hands on your knees as you tried to catch your breath. You looked up as the others were congratulating MK, once you fully caught your breath you stood up normally and debated on joining in. You had a feeling you had basically been dragged into the group and shrugged before offering MK a thumbs up.

“You’ve got a real talent for this Monkey Boy.” Your comment seemed to catch most of the group off guard, though Sandy’s brief surprise seemed more proud. He knew you weren’t big on talking with people you didn’t know personally, so this was a good sign to him. You blinked seeming to step back at the attention and look away, big mistake you did not like all those looks.

“But, er… what now?” You looked up at your blue friend with an amused sigh, a handful of things. But you kept that to yourself as you looked away for a quick moment knowing you had no equivalent to the Journey to the West like the others did. Blinking you squinted towards the top of MK’s mech seeing a figure, although you couldn’t see anything you did remember the ending scene. You stared up there for a few moments before shaking your head with a smile. Finally returning your attention when you felt Mei and MK begin dragging you along shouting ‘Noodles!’

…Maybe being a part of the main group wasn’t that bad?

Unknown to you was the fact that Wukong had noticed your gaze, you were an odd one. But something felt familiar even though he knew you both had never met.

What were you?

Notes:

due to a friend's request and my personal interest three more characters have been added to the list of love interests and i think i'll be cutting it off there. the last additions are li jing & lady yin (both together) and pigsy (added along with tang's making tang's original one changed to a polyamorous route).

this ended up double of last chapter and way longer than i think normal chapters will be (maybe) so specials will be longer chapters now. i feel like it's fitting considering specials are pretty much double the normal episodes. i hope you enjoyed how i wrote the characters for now.

if you don’t want a sarcastic answer, don’t ask a stupid question

Your schedule had become way more free ever since the Demon Bull King was released, mostly due to the fact your boss was still getting people to come by and fix up her shop. She was unfortunately placed a little too close to the battle and had been letting you go free until she finished getting the shop back in order. Despite your offers to help her, she seemed insistent that she could handle it and that you needed to take a break when offered.

So here you found yourself sitting next to Tang on the couch on Sandy's houseboat. Which was something you knew you had to get used to, especially if you were unfortunately a part of their little group now. You barely paid attention to what the news reporter was saying as you focused instead on your own thoughts. A dangerous path to take, but you can't ignore them forever. You have a feeling Sandy would be able to pick up on the fact you were trying to avoid thinking anyway, he had grown to know you a bit too well.

And in breaking news, it's been confirmed that last week's devastation was caused by the legendary Demon Bull King. Questions still remain about the small overpowered young man who saved us all. Authorities warn citizens on...” You sighed knowing exactly what this meant, Season 1 had truly just started and if you were unlucky (which seemed to be the case) you'd be dragged along to the weather station.

If they dragged Tang along, who at this current point hadn't unlocked and realized his weird monk magic, then you had no doubt they'd drag you along next. You couldn't help but begin to pick at the loose threads of your jacket, it felt weird knowing you'd remain the powerless one here. Letting your head fall back you glanced behind you watching MK and Mei do their little thing.

And I was like, "Stop there, Demon Bull King." And D.B.K.'s all like, "You can't stop me! I'm cwazy!" And then I grabbed my staff, and whoosh! I created this giant mech!” You had to admit, MK wasn't a bad storyteller even if you knew it wasn't completely a reliable retelling. Though you didn't mind letting the two have fun. Then you saw him cause the leak and winced. Poor Sandy quite literally couldn't experience one season without one of his vehicles being damaged in some way.

Uh oh, looks like you sprung a leak, MK.“

Oh jeez!

You turned your attention towards Tang, slowly raising your hands up to cover your ears. Just in time, you heard the muffled door slamming open from Pigsy, you held back a slight snicker at everyone else's reactions. It was kind of funny, even if you wished he wasn't as loud when he yelled at them

I've just pulled a quadruple shift at the shop. And I show up to see you've all been slacking off all day!” Pigsy yelled almost directly in Tang's direction, you lowered your hands about to speak up. Though Tang beat you to it, making you sigh but letting them continue their conversations as intended.

Oh, Piggy, relax. A little time off never hurt anyone.” You watched them from the couch as MK agreed, though your eyes couldn't help but drift upwards. Sandy's warning was heard as you ducked behind the couch, though you kept your head high enough to peek at the scene. Hearing Pigsy's distress made your own concerned expression soften, it was sweet to look back on these moments and really notice how much Pigsy cared for MK.

I... am... invincible!” Seeing him shout that as Mei yelled yeah, made you sigh. It still had always seemed weird that the staff gave him this ability, though it's not like you were any expert on mystic monkey powers.

You took this conversation as the time to think about what this episode consisted of. You knew this was when Red Son took over the Weather Station which wasn't the worst idea, but obviously, because of cartoon logic, he fails. But you do remember MK will be messing up at first and grimace at the thought of accidentally getting hit by that staff. Though your thoughts were cut short by Mei shouting.

To the Sea-Crate... Base!” The door opens and you sigh shuffling over to join the group, though you glanced back at Sandy remembering how he had been working on his own base. He'd asked for your help a few times, but you knew he wouldn't be too upset about this. You were going to follow Mei with the rest but she tugged you in with her causing a soft gasp to escape you.

Cartoon logic was weird. Somehow, it felt like you and her weren't smushed together, she was just happy as she dragged you out with her before letting go to welcome everyone.

Welcome to our new team base!” She exclaimed clearly proud of herself, but you couldn't help but marvel at the sight. It was different seeing it up close like this. You immediately ignored the ongoing conversation to run your hands across the walls. These characters really were talented, you wondered what you'd be able to offer to the group.

You found yourself tucked back on the couch, MK and Mei leaning on the back of it on your side. You watched the television with little attention until a familiar face appeared on the screen. Red Son. You leaned forward slightly ready to listen to the speech.

Citizens. It is I, Red Son. I have taken control of the Weather Station and will harness the very power of nature to return my father to his former glory. This message is more of a courtesy really. When I'm finished, my father will once more dominate the world! And then- Oh look! A lightning button.” You raised a hand to cover your mouth to stifle the giggle at his comment about the lightning button. Luckily you think the others took your noise as a gasp with how they continued. You had only zoned back into the conversation when Pigsy was yelling again, though mostly due to the fact you leaped off the couch out of shock when Tang's face was shoved into his noodle bowl.

You pulled a wad of napkins out of your pocket holding them out to him, you can't imagine he wants to keep a face full of broth. You gave a small smile when he accepted them. You liked the small sense of normalcy you had before having to deal with a whole fight.

Why... WHY DID THEY DRAG YOU ALONG AGAIN? You sighed rubbing your temples as you jumped in surprise when Mei fell to the ground. Oh. Oh no.

You would have clung to Sandy but when he got hit you let out a worried noise, a mix of a gasp and a small cry. You threw a worried look towards MK, you really didn't want to be here.

You found yourself behind Pigsy with Tang, more so due to your current death grip on Tang's sleeve. Hearing the glass breaking you winced as you looked towards the broken window.

I guess the garbage takes itself out now!” You heard Red Son comment as he began to laugh, you rolled your eyes at his comment.

Makes me wonder why you're still here.” A comment that seemed to catch his attention, oh that wasn't good. He watched as you all got caught by the bull clones.

...Did he have to make your bindings tighter than the others? This was not the way you wanted to be tied up if ever.

Peasants.” You glared at him as you tried to squirm again, no good. You had a feeling you'd definitely have a few bruises from this. Man, that would suck.

Oh, Red Son!” Seeing MK get dropped in you looked at the bird that seemed to vanish from sight. As much as you had criticized Wukong you could at least thank him internally for the things he did do right. “Let's settle this for real. I won't let you get away with this.

You're back to beat yourself up some more?” Red Son's comment made you smirk underneath the fabric that was keeping you from making any snarky responses.

Hey. I'll have you know I can control my powers now. Only downside is I'm not invincible anymore, so I could die.” You deflated, you will never understand why MK thought that was information his enemy needed to know. Pigsy's shout of shock was loud enough for the both of you.

Forget I said that I got this. Here comes Monkie Kid!” You sighed and looked at the others, seeing them watch the battle. You closed your eyes just waiting until you could get out of these extremely uncomfortable bindings.

You felt Sandy help you with your bindings once he was free. While the others raced over to MK, you stayed in your spot looking up at the opening in the ceiling. You'd really need to figure out a way to not be deadweight, wouldn't you?

Looking over at them all laughing at MK you sighed a small smile making its way onto your features. Even if this was stressful, it was nice to see them all so happy.

Chapter Text

where’s my oscar for acting like everything is fine

It was hard to remember when certain events would take place you’d even resorted to filling a notebook with what you could place for a timeline. What didn’t help was the fact the show did not always make it clear how much time passed, so you genuinely had to play the risky game of guessing. It was something you’d grown pretty stressed about since the next episode should be the clone episode, one you definitely didn’t want to get dragged into. You shivered remembering Art and Porty the most, you think you could at least handle the delivery clone if you had to.

You spent your days in a decent routine now though, so everything began to kind of blend together as you didn’t seem to pick up on certain changes. Continuing the heavy lifting for your boss, spending some time with Sandy, stopping by Pigsy’s Noodles (although mostly because you had grown fond of the other’s cooking as well as Tang’s stories), and occasionally Mei and MK would drag you along to the Anti-Gravity Arcade. Despite this you remained fairly comfortable, making sure to let yourself relax in between such events.

Such as tonight when Mei dragged you into MK’s apartment as she began digging through his clothes, a yawn escaping your lips. You took a sip from the energy drink she’d shoved into your hands, you could only assume it was something similar to whatever you had back in your world. You were only half listening as Mei claimed they were going out, especially finding yourself a little overwhelmed by the constant movement and sounds at the Anti-Gravity Arcade. Though as long as Mei and MK were having fun you could suck up a bit of overstimulation, it could be worse.

How you remained oblivious to the exhaustion of MK, you had no idea. Though finding yourself once again at the Anti-Gravity Arcade with Mei and him you noticed a few red flags. He was stepping up to the DJ area, and your blood immediately felt as if it was running cold. You had grown so accustomed to your routine you’d forgotten to keep an eye out for MK’s burnout, you glanced towards the exit wondering if you’d be able to slip away.

You tensed when you felt someone grab your arm, it was Mei. Her smile said enough that she was still in a good mood, yet you stumbled as she tugged you up into the real appeal of this arcade. Your feet began to leave the ground and without thinking you gripped onto Mei’s sleeves tightly, you hadn’t ever really tried out the ‘Anti-Gravity’ part of the arcade worried it’d go wrong. Yet Mei’s laughter as she tugged you helped soothe your worries a little bit, You’d probably be fine for a few more seconds, it’s not like things would immediately go south.

Why? Why did you keep thinking so optimistically about your chances of escaping the plot? You’d lost your phone during the whole dancing with Mei, yet now you were sat next to Porty as he continued to play the music and attempt to hype up the people in the area. You really should have left when you had the chance, it would be way better than trying to feign overstimulation so Porty would ignore you.

“You’re a quiet one, but real cute. I can see why OG likes to hang around you, Babe.” You snapped your head to look at Porty with wide eyes, you wondered why he didn’t try to hide that he wasn’t MK. Had you made it obvious that you’d picked up on the clone situation? You gripped the sleeves of your jacket almost refusing to speak up yet, there weren’t many good options. “C’mon Babe, don’t act so scared! I don’t bite, not ‘less you want me to~”

You can’t say you were expecting him to say anything like that, you could already feel yourself growing embarrassed by such a line. Flirting wasn’t something you’d been privy to in your original world, you especially weren’t expecting it here. Though it seemed he didn’t wait long for your response as in your moment of thought he grabbed your arm, not as forcefully as you’d expected. Tugging you up to your feet he met your hesitant expression with a grin.

“Now, help me with the party? Can’t be fun to just sit there.” He spoke immediately moving you to join him at the spot for the DJ, guiding your hands. However, that behavior lasted for a short period as he leaped back into his role of hyping up the people around him. You sighed hesitantly prodding or poking at a few buttons on the machine, but never making any huge moves. As long as you played along for now you could just wait it out, MK will come save you and Mei. It’s in the canon story, so he has to.

Eventually, you found yourself against the wall behind Porty again, your eyes growing heavy. You couldn’t remember how long you’d been here but you were certain you’d missed your shift. That certainly would be awful to explain to your boss, even if you were sure she wouldn’t blame you for getting dragged into another magical problem. You let your head fall to the side, now resting on your shoulder as you saw many of the other people in the arcade looking almost as exhausted as you.

Yeah, yo! Everybody move your feet!” Porty shouted with his grin, showing off the sharp teeth you remember him sporting. You raised a hand to cover your mouth as you yawned, just praying he wouldn’t try to convince you to help him DJ again.

Then you saw Mei resting her head on the wall separating the DJ booth from the rest of the arcade, looking just as exhausted as you. You chewed on the inside of your cheek knowing exactly what scene you were in, you should have just stayed home.

Hey! Um, we’re getting pretty sleepy. Want to hit it?” You barely registered Mei pointing at you when she was supposed to say her line about /her/ being tired. However, when the sleepy haze cleared for a second you heard Porty scoff and couldn’t help but tense up. You were absolutely screwed.

What are you talking about, Mei? Ain’t no one leaving this party!” He moved the volume slider up, making the music grow louder. Something you personally could have done without, that was obvious with how you raised your hands to cover your ears. You could only imagine your exhaustion causing your hearing to be way more sensitive than normal. You really would have preferred to be stuck with Art or Delivery clone right now.

Yeah, but this party’s been going on for fifteen hours!” Mei exclaimed rubbing her hands across her face, a sentiment you could full-heartedly agree with in this moment. Though you doubted your input would help this scenario at all, especially since any argument would probably tick Porty off way more than he would already be.

‘It’s been 15 hours, I’m so sleepy!’ That’s what you sound like.” Seeing him snap his fingers for the guards you let out a soft groan, unable to see that his gaze had snapped to you momentarily before returning to his original plan. “I said ‘Ain’t. No one. Leaving. This porty.’ ”

Finding yourself tied up with Mei like this was exactly what you had expected, yet Mei still seemed a little peeved at the situation. She gave up squirming pretty quickly, you could only imagine it was due to her exhaustion. Your own tired eyes looking at the bottom of the claw machine, you knew MK would be here to save you both. Yet still, the entire situation made you feel sick.

There were no clear signs of what was happening outside the claw right now considering Porty had you hidden. As much as you weren’t a fan of this entire situation, it was a pretty neat move to pull from a viewer's standpoint. As someone involved? Way less cool.

Immediately seeing the light shine through as the reveal happened you squinted, seeing MK in the distance. You let out a sigh of relief, luckily this should be over soon. You really wanted to go home after finding your phone and just pass the everloving fuck out.

Hey, MK! Mystic Monkey business? You’re really bad at making clones by the way!” You forgot about that last part leading to a soft snort, you could agree with that statement considering what happened to the others.

Hand them over, you! Me! We?”

“Cool your jets, OG. You want to get to me? You gotta go through my boys!” You felt your lips press into a straight line as you watched the rest of the clones appear, you still could not believe that he thought this many clones would be a good idea. Though considering you knew how the episode went and had seen a few other kids' shows pull the evil clones trope, maybe you couldn’t say much.

Why’d you make so many MK’s, MK?!”

Oops, my finger slipped.” Upon Porty opening the incinerator you couldn’t help but feel your eyes widen as you let out a sound of terror along with Mei’s screaming. It was definitely way more terrifying in person than on screen.

“Guys!” Porty only cackled in response to MK’s shout, seemingly finding this whole situation amusing.

Get ‘im, boys!” You squirmed trying to get your body as far from the incinerator as possible as you heard Mei yell out for MK.

“I’m coming, guys! Hang on!” You barely registered what happened as the staff was thrown your direction, shutting your eyes in preparation you opened one eye just in time to find yourself free from the bindings and having just missed the giant glowing gold magic circle (or whatever that thing MK used was, you really didn’t know what to call it.)

One to go!”

“No, no, no, wait! Mei, Babe, how do you guys know I’m not the real MK? There’s two of us at this porty!” You watched the clone do his last attempt at avoiding being poofed, still finding the nickname to be weird. You glanced over at Mei and MK seeing they also didn’t seem quite amused at the attempt.”Ah shoot, I played myself.”

“Here comes Monkie Kid!”

Watching Porty lower his head before raising it, letting a single tear roll down his cheek you heard him utter his final phrase for the episode. “Never forget… da music.”

You looked down at the jacket, plastic sunglasses, and headphones on the ground. Despite the fear he struck into you, you almost felt bad for how he went out. Though it was for the safety of all involved and it wasn’t like he’d never come back. Ignoring MK and Mei’s playing around with the hair, you picked up the headphones staring at them. You shrugged resting them around your neck, they weren’t that bad anyway.

You had declined the invite to hang out at MK’s apartment with him and Mei, feeling far too exhausted. Not to mention, you had to contact your boss about the entire missed shift with no warning.

Luckily she was more understanding than you’d expect, claiming something that new powers were always a hassle to learn. Something that felt really… odd to hear, but you really didn’t want to open a mystery up when your brain was running on fumes.

Without a thought, you flopped yourself onto your couch barely having the energy to drag yourself to bed. You could deal with everything tomorrow, feeling yourself slip out of consciousness and into dreamland.

Notes:

writing porty was the bane of my existence, but he'll also get a side one shot just for one of my friends who was very interested in the "i don't bite" thing i wrote. so uh yeah, porty biting reader side thing maybe in the future? sobbing.

oh, also this on ao3 and wattpad as well. even if i constantly throw hands with wattpad every time i use it. but sorry this update took so long, i've been binging ninjago basically with some friends.

does the process know that we’re trusting it

You had almost immediately clocked the scenario you were in, staring at the screen from next to Sandy. Mk and Mei playing away on the Monkey Mech machine, the game seemed interesting enough but it honestly didn’t really intrigue you. However, you didn’t mind hanging around considering Sandy was here. Though you really weren’t paying too much attention to what was happening, this was the sleepover episode. ‘Coming Home’ you think it was named? You didn’t really remember the name of every episode but you could at least remember the plot.

That entire episode kind of made you feel bad for Mei, especially considering the sleepover wasn’t something she seemed to want at all. Based on your relationship with the characters now, you could only imagine that you’d be dragged into this episode as well. A ringing noise snapped your attention back to the situation at hand, you watched Mei shift to the side taking her phone call. Naturally, you trailed after Sandy when he went to check up on her after the call ended.

Hey, you okay there, Mei?” You nodded along with his words, better to act like you didn’t know exactly how all this was going to play out. Though you were pretty lucky that most of the main group seemed to shrug off your apathy as just that, you being more apathetic than other people.

Yeah, it’s just-” MK’s laughter interrupted her words, your gaze flickering back to him with a smile trying to tug its way onto your face. You moved your attention back over to Mei easily, focusing on her words. “My parents… they want me to housesit.”

You don’t know if any of your experiences fell along the lines of housesitting, but you do remember occasionally being left to watch the house while your parents would dip during your later teen years.

And that’s a bad thing?”

“No. Me and my parents, we-” You sighed as you watched MK pop up with a grin, knowing exactly how this would play out. Your hands instinctively grab at the headphones that rested around your neck. They had become an accessory of yours after the clone incident, you still couldn’t explain why you grabbed them like that. Though neither MK nor Mei ever commented on it, so you could only assume it was fine.

Uh, did Mei say sleepover at her house?”

“What? No. My parents would want-” Mei once again got cut off, making you frown in response. This scene always made you feel weird, the pressure and push to go when she didn’t seem to really want it just felt bad.

“Sleepover! I’ve always wanted to see inside Mei’s secret Dragon House full of secret dragon stuff. Come on, please? Please, please, please, please, please?” You shifted your gaze towards Mei before glancing at Sandy, you were surprised the blue guy never tried to point out the uncomfortable vibes. Though this was a kid’s show, you couldn’t expect stellar behavior always.

Sleepover it is.”

“Ah yeah. This sleepover is going to be amazing. You know what? I’ll bring my Monkey King DVDs so we can have a marathon.” As MK continued to talk about the sleepover, you couldn’t help but tug at Mei’s sleeve. Seeming to ask her to step aside wordlessly, something she seemed to be surprised at but went along with the request.

You could have said no, he might be disappointed but he probably would have understood.” Your words seemed to catch her off guard with the way her eyes widened, she let out a laugh of her own despite her own hesitance still showing. Throwing her arm over your shoulders you tensed up for a second, before relaxing. Slowly you were getting used to Mei and MK’s personalities, even if they were a bit much to deal with sometimes.

“It’s fine, anyways you’ll be there to help keep the peace!” Mei’s words caught you a bit off guard, you didn’t quite get the keeping the peace bit she mentioned. Though you nodded with a small smile, it was nice to know you could offer her some comfort. Placing a hand over hers you gave it a soft squeeze.

“I’ll do my best.”

You… hadn’t really ever been to a sleepover before. Well at least none you’d consider genuine experiences, sure you’d stay over with family when you were younger and there was the occasional overnight school trip. But those weren’t typically classified as sleepovers by most people so when you arrived with a backpack and the others looked like they didn’t even pack anything? You immediately hunched in on yourself, it was a small backpack but it still made you feel a bit too different compared to the characters.

Sandy and MK were far too amazed by the house, you were as well. The place was beautiful, but you couldn’t bring yourself to marvel at it as your gaze drifted towards Mei who was back to looking uncomfortable and hesitant. It felt weird to see her like that, as you were about to say something you heard MK speak up and sighed listening.

“It’s even better than I thought. Growing up here must have been great.” You knew his words were genuine, but you couldn’t imagine raising a girl like Mei in a place like this. It felt too… expensive? You weren’t sure if that was the right term, but it simply felt like it was more for show rather than practicality. Mei needed a home, not a house in your opinion but you kept your thoughts to yourself.

“Yeah, I guess. But– I don’t know. When I was growing up, I just wanted to be rough and tumble. Break stuff. Look at bugs. You know, have fun just like normal girl stuff. But when your house is pretty much a museum and you come from a long line of ancient, noble dragons, that’s kind of frowned on. Anyway. Onwards to the definitely-not-going-to-be-terrible sleepover.” You remembered this bit, hearing it first person like this though made the entire thing feel different. You didn’t run off with Sandy or MK but simply looked at Mei with a slight frown. It was great when you were looking at this scene with Mei being just a character, but it was harder to see things as a viewer when you were starting to know the characters more personally.

“You know-” You were cut off as Mei ran after Sandy and MK, you blinked a bit confused until you looked towards the three and saw her beginning to disarm the security system. You couldn’t stop the flow of the episodes, but maybe you could get Mei one-on-one to at least talk to her more about the situation here. You weren’t liscensed or anything, but friends were supposed to lend an ear when needed. You stumbled after them ending up standing a little behind Mei, watching the other two seem fascinated with the inside of the house.

“This is amazing.”

“Whoa. What is all this stuff?”You sighed hearing their curious voices, fiddling with the straps of your backpack you didn’t want to do anything without explicit permission. Being in such an expensive and noble place felt.. wrong? Yeah, it didn’t feel like a place you were meant to occupy.

“Ah, you know. Gifts, artifacts, offerings. Just stuff that’s been in my family for – guys. Wait!” Mei’s sudden change in speaking made you snap your head up seeing the two guys starting to get a bit too comfortable with the priceless items. You facepalmed letting out a sigh, Sandy really felt like a big child in this episode but you knew you couldn’t hold it against him too much since the writers made this decision.

“If I had all this stuff, I don’t even know what I would do. Sell it, probably.”

“Yeah, this stuff looks really great. Looks like a good few years, maybe. Centuries.” You were about to scold the both of them but Mei beat you to it, though you might make your own small comment to the boys later about their behavior. It was just rude and quite inconsiderate considering they were guests.

“Guys, stop! Hands in pockets, now. Follow me. You guys are such menaces, you know that?” You snickered into your hand at the last part of the comment, trailing after Mei and shooting a look at Sandy and MK as if telling them to behave from here on out. You didn’t want to have to babysit these two, but you would if you had to.

Ending up in the garage with them, you stared with wide eyes. It was way different to see the house in person, especially seeing so many vehicles. You had a feeling the garage may have been one of Mei’s preferred places considering her whole interest in racing and what seemed to be engineering.

“This is the garage filled with all the awesome things I am not allowed to drive.” Oh, you forgot about that, then she continued the tour walking all around her house and sharing what each place was. You personally found the Celestial Jade Garden to be absolutely beautiful, you could only imagine what it looked like at night with the beautiful green lanterns floating about. Your thoughts were interrupted when MK noticed the Dragon Blade.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold up. Whoa. Now this thing is cool. So what’s the dealio with this dealy, yo?”You sighed at the way he asked about it, it certainly rhymed but it felt so awkward to actually hear in person. Though you did always find Mei’s family’s blade quite pretty and cool, sucks that it gets damaged later on in the series.

“That’s the sword of my great-great-great times a thousand great-grandfather, the Dragon of the West. Legends say that grandfather imbued it with unimaginable power so that our clan would always have the strength of the dragon to protect them. Its true power will only show itself to those deemed worthy. A true member of our clan who’s proven themselves strong enough to protect our family from the forces of evil. But I’m not allowed to touch it. Hey, anyone want to see the game room?” Your gaze lingered on the Dragon Blade for a moment, your fingers twitching slightly. You didn’t feel any desire to grab it yet staring at it you felt like it was also going to test you today, just not entirely in the same manner as Mei.

Weird.

You averted your gaze seeing the trio begin to walk to the game room and stumbled to catch up, you did not want to find yourself lost in Mei’s huge house if you could help it.

You had tossed your bag onto one of the chairs, considering you felt this area was probably where you’d spend a good portion of the night. Yet for now, you watched MK get excited over the pinball machine while standing next to Mei and Sandy.

“A pinball machine? I’ve always wanted to try one of these.” It sucked how rare pinball machines became back at your home and apparently, here, they always seemed like they could be pretty fun. Though considering what you knew about the machine you kept your hands to yourself, MK and Sandy would do enough damage themselves.

“Yeah, now this place is home. All right. You three boot up the old TV. I will go get some sn-n-n-nacks.”

“I’m gonna come help.” Your words seemed to catch Mei off guard for a second, her gaze seeming hesitant as she glanced at MK and Sandy. Yet she seemed more willing to let you join considering your behavior, with a nod.

“We’ll get the snacks. Don’t break anything while we’re gone!” You offered a small smile to Mei before also turning your head to look at MK and Sandy with a fairly serious expression, pointing your finger at them.

“Behave, don’t be too rough with the games.” You then got dragged off by Mei to join her on the way to the kitchen. She piled snacks into your arms as you struggled to make sure none of them were going to fall. Once she started filling her own arms you took the chance to speak up.

“As nice as your house is, it doesn’t really feel like a home. It’s like if you lived in an art museum or a library, they can be homes to some people but not most.”

It wasn’t hard to notice how Mei paused at your words, finally turning around with her own snacks in her arms, she simply smiled at you. Not quite the reaction you had been expecting, but at least it wasn’t a hostile one.

“The worry is nice, but I promise I’m fine.” Mei seemed to pause with her words before shrugging and continuing. “Having you around eases my nerves a little, I doubt you’ll let MK or Sandy do anything too bad. You’ve also been keeping an obvious eye on them.” You blinked slowly hiding your face behind the snacks in your arms, you didn’t realize she had caught onto that.

Her laughter at your reaction did seem to ease the tension you had as she began to move towards the exit, you trailing behind her carefully doing your best not to drop the snacks.

“Party, board games, snacks, Bull Clone.” Despite Mei moving forward for a few steps, you paused immediately looking over at the robot. It was General Ironclad, the sight made you feel that twitch in your fingers again. The same twitch the Dragon Blade caused in you, your eyes purely focused on the Bull Clone and the Dragon Blade.

“Wait a minute, you’re a Bull Clone!”Just like Mei, you had dropped the snacks in your arms, yet unlike Mei, you weren’t in the range of the stand being thrown at her. Your hands tightened into fists at the sight, a buzzing feeling growing in your hands.

“Hey! Get back here!” Just like Mei, you began to chase after the Bull Clone, you weren’t as fast as Mei yet you somehow managed to keep up pretty well. Seeing the artifacts getting destroyed like that aggravated you. You knew the Demon Bull Family didn’t care what they did to get power right now but the behavior still felt so aggravating. You let out a yelp as Mei pulled you onto her bike with her, your hands immediately wrapping around her waist. You felt her jolt yet she raced forward.

Needless to say, you found yourself on the ground as well, head slightly spinning once she rammed into General Ironclad. While Mei had the sword, you felt a voice in the back of your head speak up. The same voice you heard when you first got isekaied into this world, the womanly one that felt like it wasn’t meant to be heard.

“Loosen yourself, let your energy flow out, and find your power. Harness the ‘light’ my ‘child’.”

You felt your head grow light, yet not in the way that made you think you were going to pass out. Like your head was free of every other worry, you pushed yourself up not even noticing Mei’s own awakening. Simply letting your body act on its own you raised your hand pointing your palm at the Bull Clone. Within the moment, you loosened and relaxed watching as bolts of lightning burst from your hand striking General Ironclad.

Once your senses came back to you, your eyes widened staring at your hands still seeing the occasional flickers of static appear from your fingertips. You could barely acknowledge anything happening around you as your breathing grew strained. You just shot lightning from your hands, after some weird voice told you how to do it. With your nerves the static continued to dance around your fingertips, clasping your hands together you tried to relax your breathing.

You were never afraid of lightning before, yet now you found yourself trembling at the thought of having to be alone during a storm, of leaving your new house when it was raining. Now you even found yourself terrified of your own capabilities, you wanted to have something to offer to the team but why did it have to be control over the very thing that brought you here?

You’d gone home after everything, doing your best to ease the nerves of your friends. Yet you had to be at your own place for now, especially with how you kept struggling to keep the static off your fingertips.

Falling asleep you thought you’d be able to escape such fears, yet your dream wasn’t any better. A woman in a suit, black hair cut into a bob, and almost ethereal features. Yet she seemed relaxed in the environment of the pure white area around them, simply sitting at a table with a chair across from her.

“Please sit down, my ‘child’. We have much to talk about, but little time to do so.” Her voice matched the one that you’d heard two times before, it made you terrified yet you found yourself obeying her request. Avoiding direct eye contact with the woman, instead looking at the table.

“You’ve finally pulled the power I gifted you out, that’s good. You’ll need it to help me, and the ‘Monkie Kid’.” Her words didn’t make any sense to you, though in a sense you also understood her words. She was the one who brought you here and gave you the ability to use lightning, but why did she want you to help her?

“Consider it payment for offering you a second chance, I doubt you wanted to die from being struck down like you were. You’ll be a key to making sure things go as they are meant to, though you should get ready for work. I doubt your employer would enjoy you being late.”

Without a chance to respond you woke up.

What the fuck just happened?
