Chapter 1: A Human Child
Chapter Text
When Pink revealed that she was having a baby, the other diamonds were confused. Pink guessed it was because they didn't understand how organic lifeforms worked. The human she met at her zoo, his name was Greg, was kind and fun. She built a strong bond with him and in doing so, decided to create a new lifeform, she knew her form would disappear. But it was a price she was willing to pay. The other diamonds, in her honest opinion, didn’t seem to care about her. She wasn’t perfect like them, they locked her up for the most simple of mistakes. Maybe, her child would be better. They would be perfect, at least, they were to her. I mean, the worst thing white would do is send her child to the zoo, right? Where he’d meet his father and have other organic lifeforms to hang out with. He wouldn’t be treated like her at the very least.
“Pink, are you sure you want to do this?” Blue asked. “You do know your pearl and court will fall to this new… lifeform… right?”
“Of course, Blue,” Pink rubbed her belly, where her son or daughter was growing. They’d be ready in the next month or two. “Just… promise me one thing?”
“Pink…”
“Bothing big, Blue,” Pink rushed to add. “Just one tiny thing, since I’ll be gone.”
“Fine…” Blue sighed. “What is it?”
“Protect my child from yellow’s and white’s influence. They can be… well… you know… stricter than you… And he will be organic, they won’t come out knowing what to do in life. You have to teach them what it means to be a diamond.”
“I guess… I can help… with that…?”
“Thank you so much, Blue!” Pink hugged the only diamond who seemed to care for her, even if it was only a little bit.
“Of course, Pink,” Blue had a gentle smile.
The next month, Yellow sat down with her other diamonds as Pink explained how humans develop, so they wouldn’t put too much pressure on her child as a newborn. The diamonds had to create a new gem to act as healers for Pink’s birth. Rose Quartz, made to serve the hybrid diamond, Steven. The name Pink picked out before she shifted into her new form. A human baby. The Rose Quartz were already knowledgeable about human biology and gem biology. It was their purpose after all. All gems are created to know their purpose. The baby started crying almost immediately. Yellow started shouting, but one of the Rose Quartz spoke up-
“My diamond! Human children do not understand us at this stage of life.”
“How long must we wait until Pink’s memories and abilities return to her?”
“Five to ten-”
“Days or weeks?” Yellow asked, firmly.
“Years… my diamond…”
“What?! Can’t you speed it up somehow?”
“I’m afraid not, my diamond, from what Pink Diamond has given us on human young, there is no way to speed up a child’s development unlike a gem.”
“I see…” Yellow was annoyed they’d have to wait so long to have Pink back.
“Gentle Yellow,” Blue cautioned. “Pearl!”
“Yes, my diamond?” Pink’s Pearl asked, as she did the salute.
“You are to watch over the child until she is ready to relearn what we taught your original Diamond.”
“O-of course, my diamond.”
Pearl was given the child and the Rose Quartz taught her what she needed to know about the child and how to raise it. Pearl quickly became attached to her new diamond. Something about raising the child was interesting. Seeing her first steps, feeding the child weird food and milk gained from a species taken from Earth called ‘cows’ by the natives. Teaching her words and the culture of the diamonds. When Steven was seven her training to be a diamond began. She was taught how to sit properly and how to address her court and gems below her, how to respect the diamonds above her. Pearl acted as a servant in public, but the young half-breed often acted like she was her ‘mother’ as the humans in the zoo would call it. And it made some sense, being half human, she would naturally have some human traits. The Diamonds allowed it, but only in private. A pearl was not made to be above a diamond, but according to the Rose Quartz, having a stable parent figure was necessary for a human child’s development. And if they wanted this child to be the next Pink Diamond, having a good mental state was a necessary requirement.
“Steven?!” Blue called out, as she entered Pink’s room.
“Blue!” Steven smiled, as she stood up and walked over to Blue from her seat at a table made by the pebbles. Pearl was busy cooking for her Diamond, but turned off the stove and did the salute as soon as she saw Blue Diamond. “Pearl’s making some dinner! Want some?”
“Steven…” Blue huffed. “I’ve told you before, unlike you, us gems don’t need to eat.”
“Oh sorry…” Steven looked down sadly. Blue sighed-
“It’s fine, just… try to remember…”
“Remember that you don’t eat?”
“Yes!” Blue seemed off today.
“Are you ok, Blue? You seem off today?”
“It’s just… Do you have any of Pink’s memories, yet?”
“No… sorry, I don’t know what Pink was like? Could you tell me some stories about her?”
“You have your pearl for that, Steven. I need to get some management done on your colony, since you won’t be able to run it for some time.”
“Oh, ok! Bye, Blue!”
“Yes, well… goodbye, Steven,” With that Blue left.
“Pearl?” Steven spoke up, as her dinner was served.
“Yes, my Diamond?”
“Does Blue hate me?”
“What!?” Pearl asked, shocked. “Why would you think that, My Diamond?”
“She never stays around, and yellow and white ignore me all the time.”
“They just… miss Pink Diamond is all. I’m sure they’ll soon spend time with you. When you’re ready to be presented to the rest of homeworld, my diamond.”
“Ok…”
Chapter 2: A Human Pet
Summary:
Connie gets kidnapped.
Notes:
Figured I would add this, the colony still will destroy all life on Earth, but Pink and Steven don't understand how bad this is because they've both lived their whole lives under the ideals of homeworld.
Chapter Text
When Steven was 10, she started training to run her colony, Earth. It was a lot for the 10 year old to handle, but with Pearl by her side she knew could do anything she put her mind to. It was around this time that Steven started seeing the high ranking gems in his court with both their pearls and their pets. Their pets shared an odd resemblance to her own form. But she figured due to Pink Diamond’s love of these creatures, she chose to have a form similar to them. After all, there was one major difference between humans and Steven… Steven had a gem. Humans don’t, so she was a gem… right? Of course she was! A lower life form would never gain the rank of a diamond! Steven shook her head and went back to focusing on her studies of completed colonies. She smiled, as she read a book on the colony's completion. There was one thing though… All organic life would not survive. Which explains why Pink Diamond created the zoo. A perfect place to keep the natives and high ranking gem’s pets safe while they complete the colony. Steven was interested in what wild humans were like though-
“Pearl!” Steven said, in a commanding tone.
“Yes, my Diamond?” Pearl responded, with the salute.
“Set me up a meeting with Blue!”
“Of course, my Diamond!” Pearl quickly left, while Steven went back to her studies.
“Steven?” Blue opened the door. Steven looked up from her books.
“Hi, Blue!”
“What did you need? I’m very busy, you know?”
“I want a human pet!”
“Are you sure? Pink never wanted one?”
“Blue… I’m not Pink Diamond…” Blue seemed a bit saddened by that response. “Please?”
“Fine… I’ll take you to the zoo tomorrow to pick one out,” Steven thought about how the colony would kill all the organic life. As Blue went to leave, Steven spoke up-
“Blue… I want a wild human!”
“As in… one from your colony?”
“Yes,” Steven responded, respectfully. Blue out ranked him in the Diamond authority. She deserved his respect.
“I see… I’ll have it arranged for a member of your court to go to Earth and pick you out as a human. Any specific details?”
“I know humans don’t live as long as us…” Steven replied, after a moment. “But can you find one my age? If possible…”
“Well…” Blue hummed thoughtfully. “Not including Pink’s age… You’re only ten… Pearl, how long do humans live for?”
“80 years on average, my Diamond!” Steven’s pearl noted.
“Very well…” Blue turned back to Steven. “I will have a member of your court go to Earth and find a ten year old human…”
Connie was just walking home from her lessons, when she decided to take a detour route. She had left her phone at home, so the quicker she got home the better. That’s when she came across- what appeared to be- a small blue child?
“Uhm? Hello? Are you lost, little one?” Connie asked. Her sun hat and glasses shifted as she bent down to be eye to eye with the small child. The child looked to have a tear running down her cheek.
“Are you ten years old?” The child asked, curiously.
“Uh- that’s a weird question? But yes I am.”
“That’s wonderful!” Connie had a questioning look as the gem ran behind a tree. “Topaz! I found one!”
“Hun?” Connie’s eyes widened, as she saw a giant orange… person? Come out from behind the same tree. “Woah! Wh-who... WHAT... are you?!”
“Oh! My name’s Aquamarine! This is Topaz, human. And we’re gonna take you to our Diamond.”
“Wha-”
Connine was suddenly trapped, as this… Aquamarine… took off her bow and turned it into a stick and trapped her in some weird bubble, frozen in place. And then, Topaz glowed! Connie swore she was in a dream as one orange giant became two smaller orange giants. Then, before she knew it, she was out of the bubble and stuck in the orange giant’s right shoulder. Her mouth covered with only the upper half of her face visible, at least she could breath? Her nose wasn't covered. She didn’t know what to do though… Connie could only pray to whatever god exists that these creatures let her go, as they took her to a giant ship. A spaceship… THESE CREATURES WERE ALIENS!? This would be so cool, if she wasn’t in mortal danger… probably. She didn’t even know what this ‘Diamond’ wanted with her. Was she gonna be experimented on?! Oh, how she wished she could speak right now.
“We’re here~!” Connie heard Aquamarine’s voice. “Let’s go, Topaz.”
Connie huffed as the Giant turned into the two smaller ones again. One of them was holding her in her arms. She tried to struggle, but her mom never liked the idea of things like fighting and battle training, despite Connie being interested in self defense classes, so the ten year old was no match for the giant, holding her against her will. She started asking questions-
“Where am I!? What do you want with me!?” Connie’s voice was silenced by a bubble around her head.
“My Diamonds,” Aquamarine did some weird salute and Connie turned her attention to the three figures sitting on three of the four giant thrones in the room.
A yellow- person?- much larger than any building or even mountain she’d seen in her life, a blue- again was person the right word here?- the same size as the yellow one. And what appeared to be a human with an upside down diamond on their belly.
“Good work, Aquamarine,” The human smiled. “You’re dismissed.” Aquamarine and Topaz 1 and 2 left after that. The bubble around her head popped, but Connie was too shocked to say anything. “Hello! I’m Steven. You will refer to me as ‘my diamond’, understand?” Connie nodded. “Good, follow me!”
Connie guessed this was an alien shapeshifter that took the form of a human to make her trust them more… or maybe they were a human raised by aliens… Or maybe She just really needed to stop watching alien themed movies. They arrived in a completely pink room. From their name, Connie had thought this alien was male, but now that she thinks about it… All the alien’s she’d seen seem to be female or at least female presenting, even this alien/human person wore a pink outfit with white highlights.
“Pearl,” Connie saw another alien, only this time the alien had a circular pearl on their forehead. “Get my new pet settled in.”
“Wait… did you just say ‘new pet’!?”
