Work Text:
“Crap, I’m gonna be in so much trouble for this,” Nobuo muttered as he weaved in and out of the cars, trying to get a package that was now half an hour late to its designation. It wasn’t HIS fault that there had been a sale on used figurines at a local shop, was it?
Concentrating on getting to where he needed to be, he wasn’t paying enough attention to the cars rushing past him and therefore was blindsided when a car took a corner too fast.
“Is he like...okay?” asked a voice, poking at him.
“And now a haiku:
Friends from far places
Imagination is key
A nice warm summer.”
“I think you two should give him space…?”
“Where am I?” Nobuo asked, groaning and holding his head.
“Cafe Donbura, of course, you came sailing in through the window and now I have to clean it all up,” sniffed the probably high-school girl in a cafe uniform.
“Move.”
A young man in a delivery service uniform pushed the high-school girl away, ignoring her squawking and studying Nobuo with intense eyes.
“No sign of a concussion,” he declared a few seconds later.
“Momoi-san, you know that sort of thing?”
The young man in all blue rolled his eyes.
“Haruka, get him a coffee.”
“What? Why?”
“He needs energy.”
“I don’t think that’s how it works at ALL.”
Momoi stared at her until she huffed and went behind the counter, where yet another young man, dressed all in black, watched the scene unfold calmly.
Something about the whole thing seemed awfully familiar to Nobuo, but he couldn’t figure out what.
“Haruka, if you’re there, a green tea, please,” called the young man in blue.
“Pay up first, Saruhara-san!”
The young man in blue shuddered.
“I’ll get it for him, Haruka-chan.”
“Why, thank you, Kijino!”
Another huff from Haruka, who stomped as she made it.
Nobuo accepted the coffee once it was made, finding it was pretty good.
All of a sudden, sunglasses came out of nowhere and landed on Momoi’s, Haruka’s, Saruhara’s and Kijino’s faces.
“COMPANIONS! ON WE GO!” Momoi called.
They disappeared, leaving Nobuo alone with the young man behind the counter.
“Wait, are they a Sentai??”
The young man blinked at him, slowly.
Nobuo swallowed his question of him being their black ranger, trying to remember what Momoi, Haruka, and Kijino were wearing. Clearly, Saruhara was the blue. Momoi was probably the red if his uniform had that much red. Haruka….had yellow socks on, and yellow shoelaces, and a yellow pencil in her apron. Kijino...had a pink tie?????
“A male pink…” he murmured, awestruck. Who was the writer for this?? Obviously, he had time traveled (a fairly common occurrence) and come to a new Sentai time!
“You need to get back to your time now,” declared the man behind the counter, standing up and leading Nobuo to the back rooms.
Everything went black.
“What do you think you’re DOING?!” thundered Nobuo’s boss, clearly having found him.
“What? What happened?”
“You spaced out and got the package ruined, that’s what! You’re lucky that it was technically the car’s fault, otherwise you’d be FIRED!”
Nobuo tuned out the rest of the rant, marveling at the Sentai that was sure to come at some point in the future, since he was pretty sure his brain wouldn’t have come up with all THAT.
