These Feelings Are a Festering Wound

Summary:

Magnificus was comfortable with the way things were before. His students were facing their trials. The other Scrybes knew to leave him be. There was peace in his tower.

And then you came along and ruined that peace.

Aka Magnificus pines after you. This is less so an attempted confession, but him just pining after you.

Work Text:

You've made everything annoying.

Magnificus was comfortable with the way things were before. His students were facing their trials. The other Scrybes knew to leave him be. There was peace in his tower.

And then you came along and ruined that peace. You linger in his thoughts, make your way into his art. It's as though you've possessed his brush, ruining paintings with your visage.

If he were a romantic, he'd say your image blessed them. But he's not, and so it's irritating.

You distracted his students and him with you inane wishes to play a round or two of Inscryption. And when he'd tell you to leave, you'd smile and say that if he won, you'd go. Of course, you had to have cheated, there's no way he lost every game.

With how determined you were to spend time with him, it's unnerving that you haven't shown up yet. It's much too quiet.

It's quite ridiculous that you ignored all of his requests up until this point. That now is when you listen to his complaints, only well after having wormed yourself into his routine. It feels cruel in a way, and if he didn't know better, he'd suspect you had done it on purpose.

But no, you're not like other people. You wouldn't do that to him. Whether it's because you're too kind hearted or he's too smart to be manipulated by you, it doesn't really matter.

As he stares down at another painting, your likeness plain as day across the starry canvas, he knows he has to do something. Obviously, you being gone has only made it worse. It's like these feelings are a festering wound, and you being gone was the equivalent of ripping the bandage off and rubbing dirt in it.

But he's not about to send one of his pupils to bring you here, the last thing he needs is to interrupt their trials.

So normally, he wouldn't use magic as petty as this. Him, resorting to a suggestion spell? It's pathetic magic, really, it can barely be qualified as such. But regardless, what must be done must be done. You cannot continue to affect him like this.

And he knows this spell will work perfectly fine, you don't seem to have any resistance to magic. Yes, he knows that soon, you'll show up at his tower. Barge your way through the door, race up the stairs.

Annoy him again.

But... What would he do then? He's not one to confess to feeling... These feelings. How annoying.

He's not willing to use more magic to get his way.

As if he'd think about using magic like that. Love magic doesn't even exist, not the way a feeble human mind like yours would imagine. It would only incentivise you to admit feelings you already harbored for him.

And although he's sure that you're enamored with him, he doesn't want something to go wrong. What if such a spell has you clamming up and proclaiming you don't love him? No, he wouldn't chance it.

But as hours go by, and the sky outside turns from blues to a red streaked sunset, he can't help but grow more irritated.

You must have some sort of magical resistance that he hadn't noticed prior. There's no way he messed up such a simple spell.

It's too late for him to do anything about it today though. So tomorrow, he'll just have to remove one of his students from their test. Hopefully they'll locate you quickly so he can fix these feelings.

Notes:

Magnificus my despised and beloved. I hate you but I loved writing you. Second favorite after the Leshy fic.

This is the last one for the celebration fanfics! Thank you all very much for your support and for reading. Here's to many more fanfics :]
