Author's Preface

I am proud to finally bring this research to a close and publish this work. After years of studying Lokis, it brings me great satisfaction to highlight the uniqueness of the Loki variants.

This compilation of data, essays, and primary sources owes a profound debt of gratitude to the numerous agents who have diligently observed and interviewed countless Lokis, often at great personal risk, sometimes even losing their lives in the process. This research would not have been possible without their unwavering dedication.

A special acknowledgment is due to Judge Renslayer’s office, and to Judge Renslayer herself, for the generous support and dedicated resources that enabled this agent to pursue this idea. None of the following pages would exist without her belief in this work and the countless hours of discussion that led to the Head Office Research Grant.

Abstract

1,279 Loki variants were processed and filed by the Time Variance Authority (TVA) from the pre-Stark era. The files on these variants provide valuable insights into the nature of Lokis and how the reformed TVA can learn from this variant type’s propensity to generate nexus events.

The ongoing debate of nature versus nurture in shaping the criminal mind and the subsequent path to redemption is particularly relevant when studying Loki variants and their nexus events. This research may offer strategies to further future-proof the Stark Time Loom and ensure multiverse stability.

This compilation draws on data, essays, and direct interviews with the Loki variants to examine their psychology, history, and anatomy. It identifies which types of Lokis are most promising in fulfilling our current mission. Notably, three variants stand out due to clear turning points in their psyches and identifiable, reversible causes for their nexus events.

While further study of Loki variants is recommended to advance the Loom Stability Project, ethical concerns regarding their compliance and the safety of TVA agents must be addressed. All subsequent studies should ensure the use of time control bands and magic restraints when handling a Loki. It's important to note that not all Lokis will accept their role in the TVA, and a pruning stick should be kept on hand at all times. Given past failures, agents are advised to use the Time Theater and Prison for disciplinary action instead of the Coercive Conversation Center.

Keywords: Loki, morality, criminal mind, nexus events

Updated Author’s note
Since publication, continued research into Loki variants has been significantly restricted by the newly established policies of the current Stark Time era. Consequently, any newly processed Loki variants must be handled with the utmost care and are to be reserved exclusively for the head office. - M.M.

Tony Stark [CTO]
Excellent study, I love the work you did on the Loki psychoanalysis. Looking forward to the rest of it.

Mobius M. Mobius [Time Variance Authority Agent]
All uploaded and ready, sir.

Tony Stark [CTO]
Great! Have a good time on your well-earned vacation! Hope the whole jet skiing lives up to your expectations!

Tony Stark [CTO]
Wait, where’s the rest of it, Mobius? I funded this for a full study.

Ravonna Renslayer [Time Variance Authority Judge]
Stepping in for M.M. while he’s on vacation. Would you mind elaborating on what you find deficient in the report?

Tony Stark [CTO]
The title of the report is “An Anatomy of Loki,” where is the analysis on what turns him on?

Ravonna Renslayer [Time Variance Authority Judge]
Sir, we regret to inform you that the TVA does not collect such data. At least not by the protocols of the previous regime. Would you like us to begin a new research study?

Tony Stark [CTO]
No, forget it. I’ll do the study myself!

Tony Stark [CTO]
As a matter of fact, refrain from further research and bring the next subject to me.

Notes:

Yeaaaah. Not a science person, but I went down a weird rabbit hole in my recent reading… trying to make sense of some things… and was fascinated by the writing style of how psych journals, med articles and such write.

Thought it would be fun to try out the dry language that no one will ever ask me to write. Definitely took ample liberties… mostly out of ignorance but very willing to say it’s just the TVA way. Plus a nod to AO3, complete with commenting.
