Chapter Text
Timothy McGee isn’t sure of many things. His decision to go on a suicide mission to Somalia being at the top of the list at the moment. There’s other things on the list sure, he never wants to go skydiving, he doesn’t want a big wedding, he never wants to talk to his father again -
“Couldn’t live without you I guess”
He thinks he rolls his eyes so hard that he sees his brain. Now third wheeling to Tony and Ziva is not the worst thing that’s happened to him all day, no it’s not even close. Up top would probably have to be listening to Tony spill his guts to Saleem, him almost being beaten half to death, etc etc.
But this doesn’t seem to be falling down the list any time soon as his two best friends in the world practically confess their love to each other with the threat of imminent death nearby.
He doesn’t think he’d ever be happy to hear his tormenter walk into the room but he is. Because it means he finally gets to do something.
With Saleem finally dead on the ground Tony asks Ziva if she can walk, to which she shakes her head fearfully as if she’s afraid that they’ll leave her here because she can’t like she isn’t the reason their here in the first place. Tim makes a mental note to check back on that later. He knows that realistically it only takes 72 hours for someone to be completely broken, no matter how strong they are, and his little sister’s been here for three months. If that’s not motivation to get her out and move his ass out of the camp he doesn’t know what is.
Now on a plane that will take them to a Navy base in Germany to check up on his beating, Tony’s bloodstream, and the injuries he can’t even think Ziva has, he thinks back to the will he had to write in order to get approval to come to Somalia. Being in the short list of America’s do not travel under any reason countries he had to update his will and emergency contact before arriving. He didn’t want Sarah to worry about him should something happen to him here, but if he was killed or seriously injured, he couldn’t stand the thought of her not knowing what had happened to him if he did die avenging Ziva.
He had always been of the belief that families of missing people were worse off than those who knew definitively what had happened to their loved ones.
Checking his phone for a second after being assured that Ziva was in good hands but not going to far from her (not now and not ever again was she coming out of his sight) he saw missed calls from his sister, grandmother, mom and dad.
He’d like to make an amendment to that statement he made earlier now.
Third wheeling Ziva and Tony, killing an unarmed man, being tortured by the worst of the worst?
Yeah that was nothing compared to the fact he was going to have to talk to his father now.
Maybe he could convince the plane to leave him somewhere in the Middle East instead.
