Twilight Meets The Dawn

Summary:

In the 10 years since the ALZ-113 virus was set loose on the populace humanities numbers have dropped down to extinction levels. This leaves very little way for vampires that live as nomads and are in covens across the globe to find sufficient food. The Cullens drink animal blood so things are easier with food aplenty. But they still have to move so they don't deplete hunting grounds too quickly. One such place is San Francisco. At the Redwoods, the Cullens encounter something they weren't expecting. Hundreds of intelligent apes led by an alpha called Caesar. How will the course of history alter with these two worlds mixing into one?

Twilight Meets The Dawn Prologue

It's been 10 years since the ALZ-113 virus was set loose and ran rampant across the globe. The result brings humanity's numbers down to near-extinction levels. Because of this heavy loss in numbers food for vampires whether they live as nomads or in covens has become scarce. Therefore, leaving them to become more careful in their hunting methods or find new ways to quench their thirst altogether.

The Volturi in Italy are one coven that became lost from starvation. They'd relied constantly on human blood to sustain them, refusing to adapt.

The Volturi ended up dying out from stubbornness and pride with many others following them from starvation.

One coven has no such problems since they never desired human blood in the first place. So essential to their diet.

The Cullen's were better at adapting to the world's change in circumstances than most of their kind, but that doesn't mean things are any less difficult for them.

While the need to hide is a lot less now, they still must hide what they are while craving human company.

The San Francisco Colony in California is one such place in California where they've found sanctuary. The city is so deserted that they can live on their own in the house of their choosing while remaining close to where the humans have amassed their home.

The Cullen's view the Redwoods across the water as prime hunting grounds where they can feed and no one will bother them there.

But on their first hunting trip up there the Cullen's are met with a surprise they weren't expecting to find.

Apes.

Hundreds and hundreds of them.

And intelligent ones to boot.

What the Cullen's are going to make of this is a mystery including how their very presence appears to change the course of history.

I was having a Twilight movies marathon when I was working on my Planet of the Ape stories and that's where inspiration struck with this idea. To be honest I don't know how far I'm going to get with this one. There are a lot of different factors added in now. So, I'm open to suggestions if you think of any to offer. My ear is always open.

I hope you all like this one! I certainly did while writing it for your vast enjoyment! ;D

For those of you just starting out with my stuff there are other works on my profile that may catch your interest. I highly recommend you take a look as soon as the opportunity presents itself to you. Who knows, you may be pleasantly surprised by what you discover.

Stay safe everyone. Especially with all of these crazy natural disasters occurring a lot lately due to global warming and climate change everywhere for sure. I swear it's like they're getting worse and worse all the time and it's like officials are simply just ignoring it or pretending it doesn't exist entirely just to go on with their daily lives. Especially those in multi-million dollar companies that rely on certain elements of our planet that we rely on to naturally keep us safe instead of adapting and finding new safer ways to keep in business. There are so many options out there where they can adapt, but they just refuse to see it because all they care about is money. Twilight Meets The Dawn Chapter 1

Present Day:

It's another cloudy day in San Francisco on the city, the woods, and the sandy beaches of the bay and coastline.

The shoreline of Baker Beach is no exception.

Over the sand is a crowd of harbor seals down to the dominant male that is guarding its harem, the juveniles, and the females with their pups. They are resting and relaxing on the sand after feasting on fish.

But these harbor seals aren't the only ones that are hungry these days.

Normally, the only predators these gentle creatures had to fear were in the water.

Lately, there is even more for them to fear on land.

Out of nowhere, the dominant male sharply raises his head, staring in one particular direction. After a few seconds, he barks out an alarm call, bolting and diving into the water toward safety.

Sharks be damned. He'd rather face that threat than the one coming for them now on land.

The females and young remaining on the sand chose to follow the dominant male's lead. All of them make a break for the waves, crashing, rolling, and tumbling into each other as they rush for where they know they'll be safe.

Most make it, but others aren't fast enough during the hustle.

An old and slow female seal at the rear of the pack was the first to go. She was about halfway to touching the water when she was, suddenly, snatched from the sand. One minute the old girl was there and the next she was not.

The same exact thing occurred with about five others. Three of them were older ones like the first and the final two were juveniles that weren't reading the danger as the others are.

When all this was said and done there's absolutely no trace of them left in the sand. The only signs that anything had been amiss in the first place were nine pairs of footprints embedded in the sand.

In a secluded section of the beach that was overshadowed by a cliff, the Cullens enjoyed the blood from their day catch.

Despite initial fears of being seen hunting like this on a cloudy day being not what they used to be old habits do die hard.

Carlisle and Esme were sharing one. Emmet had one all to himself. Rosalie was feasting on one of the juveniles while Renesmee had the other all to herself. Edward and Bella shared one and then Alice and Jasper had claimed the last.

By the time they were finished with their meal, the Cullen's pushed the carcasses of the harbor seals into the water for the sharks to feast on, leaving no evidence behind.

Instead of heading back over to the secluded beach house they'd picked out the whole group there decided to sit there for a while and stare out at the ocean.

Renesmee ventured away for a bit but still where they could see her. She was investigating the tidepools, seeing what sea life was there, and picking up some seashells that took her interest. Making for Renesmee to make into jewelry later on.

Sniffing her hair and cringing, Rosalie said "I know the food here is good, but I can't take the way these seals smell. And the sea water isn't doing any favors either."

Alice said "That goes for me, too."

Wrapping an arm around Rosalie, grinning, Emmet said "You still look good to me, Babe."

Edward and Jasper conceal grins of their own while Alice and Bella are far more understanding, yet they don't take it as seriously as Rosalie.

Esme said "It's good to get used to it. With more than enough hunting for us we may be here a while."

"These seals taste great, but I got to admit I really would like a bear or two," said Jasper.

"I'd really like a buck," said Edward.

"I miss mountain lion," added Bella.

"We'll go across the bridge and see what the Redwoods look like tomorrow," reassured Carlisle. "We don't need to do any more hunting today."

So they sit back and relax, watching Renesmee enjoy herself on the beach and going over plans they had been going over now that they're in San Francisco. They're still trying to pick the right time to make themselves known to the San Francisco Colony. Basically, they were a large family traveling down from up north to find more people and a better place to live. Carlisle would offer his services as a doctor and the others would find positions there and see how they fit into it all there.

After tomorrow when they check out the Redwoods.

Authors Note:

Should Alice be able to see the apes in her visions or not? That's a part that is really bugging me. Whether she does or doesn't will kind of decide how certain paths will go.

I'm thinking that the Cullen's meet the apes a year before all hell breaks loose with San Francisco. That way the two families have a chance to integrate with each other.

I know it might seem strange, but I decided not to have Jacob with the Cullen's in this story. I tried to think of multiple ways to fit him in, but nothing really clicked too well. So, in this universe Jacob never imprinted on Renesmee so he's still in Forks with what's left of his tribe, if they're still alive that is.

Also, I don't plan on the Cullen's being interested at all in ape blood. Too closely related to humans and because they are walking and talking now.

I hope you all like this one! I certainly did while writing it for your vast enjoyment! ;D

Twilight Meets The Dawn Chapter 2

The next day, the Cullens set out to scout the lands in the Redwoods, searching for suitable prey to supplement their thirst.

The family split off into two groups.

Rosalie, Emmet, Jasper, Alice, and Renesmee would be going through the forest in the direction of Ana Nuevo State Park. As eager as Emmet was to take down a bear, they were excited to check out the elephant seals on that beach. They'd never tried them before and were curious to see what kind of a challenge they'd be in a fight. Male elephant seals were known to be very aggressive when their territory was invaded.

Renesmee simply wanted to get a look at them. She thought the harbor seals and their antics were funny, so she wanted to see what they were like.

Edward and Bella can't really refuse their daughter anything and they're not overly concerned about her being in danger with the others there to protect.

So, Edward and Bella went off with Carlisle and Esme away from the water and deep into the woods. They'd found traces of a massive elk herd in the vicinity and wanted to get a better idea of what else was around.

It's right after they found traces of mountain lion paw prints that a breeze from upwind carried something strange.

Carlisle caught it first.

Snapping his head in the direction where the scent originated from Carlisle turns away from the paw prints in the dirt and takes a few steps that way.

"Carlisle," said Esme.

Bella said "Carlisle, what's up?"

Breathing deeply, Carlisle said, "Do you smell that?"

The other three follow his lead in smelling the air.

Brow raised in surprise, Edward said "Humans? I didn't think there were any up here. I thought they were all down in the city."

"So did I. Perhaps this group doesn't like the idea of being around so many in a crowded space," mused Carlisle.

Getting an idea, Bella said "Since we're going to be hunting up here, we might as well check where they are. That way we know where to keep an eye out and avoid them."

"I agree," said Esme.

Smiling, Carlisle said "I don't see the harm in taking a slight detour. These are our new hunting grounds now."

And so, the four of them follow the scent trail deeper into the redwoods in order to locate the source.

As they were closing the distance Edward's mind-reading gift became more active as the distance for his range slowly decreased. And he started picking up the signal for first one mind and eventually reached the point of hundreds upon hundreds. The thoughts Edward picked up on were perplexing, at first. Like his family, Edward assumed them to be human. But with each minute that passes Edward becomes more and more astonished as realization fully impacts him.

"Oh my god," gasped Edward, eyes wide.

"What," said Carlisle.

Instead of answering, Edward disappears as he speeds away.

Worried about his reaction, Bella, Carlisle, and Esme quickly book it after him.

Edward's trail takes them to a cliff overlooking beautiful waterfalls and a clear view of the bay and the city beyond. Here they'd be able to see what is below, but no one can catch sight of them above.

That appears to be exactly what Edward had in mind as they find him lying down flat on his stomach at the edge. Right when they arrive Edward signals them to keep quiet and to join them on the forest floor.

"Edward, what is it," whispered Bella.

"You've got to see this," said Edward, pointing in the direction of the waterfalls. "This isn't what we thought."

Carlisle, Esme, and Bella peer over the edge and are shocked by what they find.

The scent they'd caught wasn't human after all.

"Apes," exclaimed Bella.

"Apes," said Carlisle. "Hundreds of them."

"I thought all the San Francisco apes were all whipped out by that fire," gasped Esme.

Before things had truly hit the fan with the plague there had been a news report about efforts to terminate the apes that contained the ALZ-113 to protect the public's interests. After the operation was complete the government had issued a statement that the "threat" was gone to divert the populace.

At statement is now clearly false.

"Looks like they lied," deduced Carlisle.

Rolling his eyes, Bella said "No surprise there. The government was known to lie about a lot of things."

Edward said "I couldn't believe it when I sensed them. I thought what I was hearing was a mistake. But as we got closer, and I could see the images in their minds clearer it was undeniable. It really is astounding the way these orangutans, gorillas, chimps, and bonobos think. If I wasn't seeing them with my own two eyes, I really would've thought they were human to begin with."

His natural curiosity and love of research and all things new taking over, Carlisle said "Just look at how advanced they've become. Creating an entire village with structures all their own. In all my centuries, I never would've thought it possible. If we hadn't come here and someone told us about this I would've called it an absurdity."

"Carlise, they use sign language to communicate with each other. And I'm not just talking about a few simple signs. It's the whole language," reported Edward.

"Incredible," said Carlisle in wonderment.

"We need to tell the others," said Esme. "Make sure they don't come this way before we decide what to do with this information."

Being careful not to be seen the four of them depart and head over to where they know the others will be at Ana Nuevo State Park.

The entire family converses as they drink from a male elephant seal.

Alice, especially, was the most surprised.

"I couldn't see them," breathed Alice. "When I looked into the redwoods, I didn't see them."

Tapping his chin thoughtfully, Carlisle said "It's probably from the changes that have mutated in their blood and biology from exposure to the ALZ-113. It's the only explanation I can think of for why your vision is blocked when it comes to these primates."

"What are we going to do, Carlisle," asked Jasper, an arm wrapped around Alice's shoulders.

Offering a solution, Edward said "From what I saw in some of their minds there's going to be a hunting party set on that elk herd we found today. Maybe we can watch and observe them during that hunt."

Nodding in agreement, Carlisle said "Very well. That's what we'll do. Hopefully, we'll get a better idea of them tomorrow."

Authors Note:

I've had people ask me how vampires would starve to death. Bear in mind, in the movies and books, we've seen that vampires can go for days maybe over a week without blood. But here, in this universe, the human population is so terribly decimated they'd still have to watch their feeding habits even more closely. Remember the Volturi would draw massive amounts of people in and then feed. Because of this those in the Volturi would no longer have any access to that and they'd run out of humans to prey on a lot faster. Another factor is that the statute of secrecy means a great deal to the Volturi and their followers. Even in the confusion of the Simian Flu Virus, the Volturi wouldn't give themselves away by annihilating whole populations to simply sate their hunger. They're not stupid. Even during the Middle Ages when the immortal children ran rampant, they never took part in that. Instead, they covered it up. In this sort of perspective the Volturi would keep their pride and would rather starve to death than move onto actual animals for food.

And for those of you who are wondering why Carlisle and the others assumed the apes to be humans at first, apes are one of the closest relatives to humans. So the mistake could've been an easy one for them to make until it was clarified by Edward.

I hope you all like this one! I certainly did while writing it for your vast enjoyment! ;D

Twilight Meets The Dawn Chapter 3

In the Redwoods, a massive hunt is underway.

A storm was brewing the combination of the rain and thunder masking the presence of the dozens of apes in the trees as they waited for word on their prey.

Approaching from up ahead the scout Caesar sent out returned with a report. Stopping three trees away, he signed "Caesar, they are close."

Caesar nodded, a hand raised high instructing those with him to keep still and silent. Peering below at the hunters on the ground to where Koba waited leading a separate troop of apes.

"Koba," signed Caesar, gesturing forward and ordering Koba to take those apes around the elk to cut off any escape.

Grunting to the apes with him Koba advanced with them following at his heels to where the scout indicated.

Thrusting an arm forward Caesar guided his group high in the trees in the same direction catching and swinging through the long sturdy limbs belonging to each one.

Not one ape made a sound. They used the forest around them to their advantage camouflaging them. The elk would have no clue what was stalking them until it was too late.

The apes found the herd in an open grass area in the forest large enough for them to graze. Heads lowered to the earth they didn't have a clue they were surrounded by predators.

Caesar kept his son close to him the entire time. Reaching the elk herd the pair landed on the same branch.

Raising a questioning hand while preparing to give the signal to strike, eagerly shifting from foot to foot, Blue Eyes signed "Now, Father?"

Caesar covered his son's hand with his own so he couldn't prematurely signal the others. Turning his head left and right he checked to make sure everyone was in position to attack. The plan was set.

Rising on the branch Caesar screamed releasing a mighty battle cry, one echoed by the other apes simultaneously. Startled into a frenzy the elk stampeded across the forest floor. They barreled through the underbrush the opposite way fleeing the apes in hot pursuit herding them.

Unfortunately for them, they ran right into a trap.

Koba's apes intercepted the herd cutting them off. This caused the stampede of elk to split off into smaller groups scattering them in opposite directions. This confused these animals into a stupor.

The apes targeted these aware the reduced numbers would benefit them. Their main job done the apes in the trees swung down to join their comrades on the ground.

Caesar was leading one group with Blue Eyes watching his every move. Blue Eyes was tossed a spear from his friend Ash. Caesar chose a target. From Luca's back, Caesar took a piece of vine that had two smoothed-out rocks tied on either end. Swinging it over his head about three times Caesar aimed and launched it at the elk he had chosen.

The elk fell with a cry down a steep slope. The apes dispersed in tight nit groups to take down different prey. Rocket threw Caesar his spear. Father and son then peered down the slope at the elk. They found it tangled in a heap in the damp earth struggling to get up but finding itself enabled. The rest of the herd scattered leaving this fallen member behind.

One step at a time Caesar and Blue Eyes scaled down the slope to reach the elk and deal the finishing blow. As they got nearer Caesar immediately took note that something was off. A few feet away Caesar saw some fresh deep and long claw marks on a tree.

Raising his hand for Blue Eyes to stop, Caesar signed "Son, stay…"

Caesar needed to investigate this further. There could be danger lurking in the vicinity that they couldn't see. Caesar knelt to get a closer look at the indents in the tree tracing his fingers over it.

Behind him, Blue Eyes completely disregarded his father's orders. He wanted to establish and prove he was a capable hunter. Impulsive and cocky as ever Blue Eyes stalked toward the stag intent on killing it.

The stag was beginning to regain its footing, untangling its back legs and trying to stand. If Blue Eyes didn't do anything now the elk would get away. Not if he could help it.

Blue Eyes should've listened to Caesar.

As Blue Eyes raised his spear to stab the stag elk in the neck an enormous grizzly bear burst from the edge of the thicket. This is the creature that had clawed the tree marking this patch of territory as its own. What made matters worse was that it smelled the blood and fear scent of a prey animal. This grizzly bear wanted that meat and nothing was going to stand in its way.

The grizzly bear charged at Blue Eyes releasing a mighty roar while swiping at the youngling.

Blue Eyes turned to face this new foe screeching at it. But Blue Eyes was given no time to correct. The grizzly bear attacked Blue Eyes with a massive paw sending him tumbling down with the spear knocked out of his hand. It broke as this occurred.

Paternal instincts taking over Caesar launched himself at the grizzly bear. As he was airborne Blue Eye's form was temporarily replaced with Margo as a child. He landed on the grizzly's back temporarily distracting it as he rolled into a position in front of his son. He was deliberately putting his own body between his child and the bear.

This grizzly bear had Caesar and Blue Eyes cornered. Blue Eyes was bent over wounded in the chest and face. Caesar stood in front of him protectively shielding him from the bear's onslaught. Caesar was dodging the grizzly's assaults left and right, but with only just the two of them against a bear, this wouldn't last for long. How easily the grizzly rid Caesar of his spear is proof enough of this.

Caesar screeched a challenge after challenge into the grizzly's face hoping it would back off and draw someone close by fast enough to assist. Unfortunately, the bear wouldn't relent it simply kept going.

Luckily a third ape made his way onto the scene unnoticed by the grizzly, but not by father and son. Racing down the hill was Koba coming to their rescue. Koba would only have one chance to end this.

To help Caesar brought himself to full height screaming his loudest bellow at the grizzly bear. In response, the bear stood on its hind legs roaring back in defiance.

This is just what Koba required.

The grizzly's roar was abruptly cut in half when the head of an old harpoon attached to a spear belonging to Koba plunged headlong into its back silencing the animal permanently. Now lifeless the corpse of the bear collapsed falling on Caesar and covering him completely before he could move.

Blue Eyes and Koba approached the bodies of Caesar and the grizzly bear worried that he might not be alive. They were relieved when Caesar pulled himself out safe and unharmed. Koba's assist came just in time.

Turning towards Koba, grateful, smiling Caesar signed "Thank you, Koba."

Koba nodded tapping his chest twice with a fist in respect to his leader before examining the bear more thoroughly.

The bear dealt with Caesar and diverted his attention to his son.

Caesar then went to Blue Eyes a somber expression on his face, taking Blue Eyes shattered spear from Koba when offered to him. Blue Eyes was kneeling in the grass near the bear's mouth with his head lowered in embarrassment. Taking a knee Caesar parted Blue Eye's fur to check how bad the injuries were. Blue Eyes grimaced stiffening at the contact raising his head to meet his father's eyes.

Somberly, Caesar signed "Think before you act, Son."

Caesar had reminded Blue Eyes of this many times already. For some reason, Blue Eyes didn't seem to listen. He then went to touch the claw mark on the left side of Blue Eye's face, but his son shoved his hand away.

Moreover, an aggravated Blue Eyes took his wrecked spear from Caesar avoiding eye contact ashamed.

Shaking his head Caesar sighed an expression of disappointment mixed with anger on his face in dismay He wanted to reprimand Blue Eyes but restrained himself. Right now, there are more important things to deal with than disciplining a disobedient son. The hunt was a great success. They needed to bring the bear and the game they'd killed with them back to the village immediately. The entire tribe would be well-fed for a long while to come.

As the hunting party began preparations to lug every single one of their kills back to the village, they had no idea of the danger that was still lingering nearby.

During this meticulous handling, there is a severe oversight.

After killing that one grizzly bear they just assumed that it was the only one around.

They'd be wrong about that.

A booming and fierce roar announces this to everyone nearby.

Out of the underbrush emerges a 2nd grizzly bear, the first one's mate. And she is none too pleased about the loss of her partner.

Caesar, Rocket, and Koba are the nearest to the furious charging bear. Rocket and Caesar keep themselves between it and their children, spears held at the ready. The rest are nearby but won't be able to cross the distance in time to properly be of any assistance against this thing.

They brace themselves for the inevitable.

Nevertheless, they needn't have bothered.

A blur shoots out from the trees and slams into the grizzly bear's side from above. The bear is knocked away from its course mere feet from its victims.

Caesar, Rocket, Koba, Blue Eyes, and Ash jump back into the masses with spears as their only defense as they witness this unfold.

It's when the bear stops rolling and comes to a halt in the dirt do they see what interfered with the bear's attack.

Emmet is relentless in his onslaught against the grizzly bear, not releasing his grip. Jasper and Edward emerge, joining in the attack on the she-bear.

Pinning it to the ground, Emmet sinks his teeth through the fur. The grizzly bear groans in pain, resisting Emmet's grip but he's not having it. He snaps the beast's neck, and it goes still.

Congratulatorily clapping Emmet on the shoulder for his catch, Jasper said "Nice going Emmet."

Grinning, Emmet said "You know me. I always love a good grizzly."

With the female grizzly bear subdued Carlisle, Esme, Alice, Rosalie, Bella, and Renesmee descend from the trees they'd been hiding in.

You see, from the moment the sun rose they'd been watching and trailing the apes in fascination as they departed for that hunt Edward mentioned they'd be doing today. They were intrigued and awestruck to see apes of all kinds acting so like how humans used to in ancient times. Communicating with each other both in human speech and sign language.

They were greatly impressed with how the apes handled themselves, especially the leader Caesar.

The whole group can tell right off the bat that Caesar is remarkable and the aura radiating off him is marvelous.

The Cullens admired Caesar and could relate to the way he stood his ground to defend the brash and impulsive adolescent that is his son.

In this excursion, none of them had any intentions of interfering. They'd originally meant to simply observe and then depart to regroup. It's only when the 2nd grizzly bear went on the attack did, they intercede and revealed themselves to these enhanced primates.

And speaking of the apes…

During this entire spectacle, the apes had been watching in stunned silence and disbelief. Unable to fully process the scene in front of them. But with the initial shock wearing off it is soon replaced with hostility, distrust, unfriendliness, and uncertainty in their faces and demeanors.

"Well, this is awkward," said Bella.

That is putting it mildly.

Twilight Meets The Dawn Chapter 4

After the incident with the grizzly bear its body along with the elks were loaded onto crude sleds the apes had crafted from boughs from the trees to carry the spoils of the hunt home.

Now the hunting party traveled the long road home back to their refuge. Some rode on horses while others went on foot. At the head of the procession were Caesar and Blue Eyes on either side of him on their mounts. Riding alongside them were some members of Caesar's inner circle and closest confidants, which were Rocket, his son Ash, and Koba.

The troop marched passed the gas station. The tribe often had to pass it whenever they came this way.

As they did so Caesar watched Blue Eyes examine the gashes on his chest. Blue Eyes will be scarred for life now. Despite his stubbornness, those would need to be tended to. His mother Cornelia would probably see to that.

The remainder of the journey back to the tribe for the hunting party went without incident.

But just because there wasn't any more trouble blocking their way doesn't mean there isn't something bothering Cesar.

Specifically, their unexpected and uninvited guests.

Forehead creased in worry, Caesar glances back at the family of nine humans in the middle of the hunting party.

Koba, Grey, Stone, and a handful of others surround the humans on foot and on horses with spear tips directed at the intruders should they try anything funny.

From the start Koba had wanted to eliminate these strangers from the get-go, but Caesar had stayed his hand. Caesar knows from just that brief encounter and what this group did to that grizzly bear with their own hands that any of these humans could take them down in less than 10 seconds. Therefore making quick work out of all of them without too much of a sweat. Caesar refused to take such a risk without knowing any of the facts.

Caesar wouldn't tell any of them this, but morbid curiosity makes him want to see and learn more from this encounter.

Caesar would convene with the entire Council and then decide what to do.

The Cullen's are doing their best not to provoke any unnecessary reactions from the apes from any sudden movements. Instinctively, Renesmee is kept in a protected position in the middle with Bella while the others are circled around them to act as a shield.

Edward and Carlisle are at the front.

The whole time they've been moving Edward has been keeping close tabs on the thoughts of the apes, specifically the alpha male.

Catching onto what Caesar is thinking, speaking in a whispered tone only Carlisle and the other members of their family can hear, Edward said "Caesar is deciding on what to do with us. He's divided. He's considering killing us to protect his people and the other is letting us live so he can learn more about us and where we came from."

Carlisle said "I'm not surprised. With all these apes have accomplished on their own, Caesar has to consider things from all angles. We must not do anything rash so they don't assume we're an enemy."

"We're going to have to explain to them what we are," reasoned Edward. "They saw what we did to the grizzly bear. We can't be irrational about this. They're not stupid. Even with Jaspers's gift in play to keep all these raging emotions in check I don't know if it'll be enough to prevent a fight. I'm catching a lot of hostile thoughts here. It will be difficult to maintain calm and prevent others from acting brashly. Jasper will be put under much strain."

Wisely, Carlisle said "Which is why I don't want to give them any more reason to fear us than they're probably already feeling. The more docile and nonconfrontational we appear the less fear there's going to be when we reveal what we actually are."

"I hope you're right on this, Carlisle, for their sake," sighed Edward.

When the hunting party returned to the village they were met with smiling and excited faces.

They all stopped in the center of the village near the fire pit.

From the spot Maurice was standing next to a stone wall, he hooted and grumbled at the children that surrounded him for their daily lesson on their history, letters, and words. The orangutan gestured for them to focus their attention on him, but it was hard to do so when many couldn't turn their eyes away from the hunters. They were far more interesting than all of this boring stuff. It may not be as stimulating, but to read, write, and the ape's three most important laws.

The laws were Ape Not Kill Ape, Knowledge Is Power, and Ape Together Strong.

It's Maurice's job to make sure these lessons travel to future generations for life. In this, he would not fail.

Everything seemed to appear happy and festive for tonight's meals with all the meat added to their food supply until the Cullen's are spotted.

All at once the atmosphere made a tremendous switch to being fearful and highly perturbed.

Anxious mothers snatched their young children and hustled them inside their huts for protection while males that had stayed behind to guard their village took up their spears, prepared to defend their home.

A council meeting is held around the law stone to decide on the Cullen's fate.

The Cullen's are kept under guard by the Gorilla Guard in a secure spot away from the Council.

Edward keeps a close monologue with what he can hear with his mind reading and see with his eyes from their sign language. He comments to the family that the one-eyed bonobo called Koba is the most resistant to them because of the abuse at human hands he endured like many of the tribe. It's a sentiment shared by many as those who recall human cruelty were afraid. Not wanting to endure that darkness again nor for it to spread over their offspring.

From the way the meeting is going it is heading in that direction with those wanting to wait and see what becomes of this being in the minority.

Renesmee is the one who takes matters into her own hands, not liking to see how nervous all this is making her loved ones and with how heated everything is getting. She slips through the gorillas guarding them and steps with a purpose toward Caesar.

"Renesmee, no," gasped Esme.

Alice covers her lips with both hands and Rosalie clutches her blonde tresses in distress.

The reaction is immediate.

Startled hoots and chitters break out as Renesmee makes her move toward their beloved leader. Some warriors move to intercept her and Renesmee's effortless and quick evasive maneuvers to avoid containment alarm these rattled and uptight apes even more.

But Caesar is unafraid.

Caesar holds up a raised fist, telling everyone to settle and not do anything reckless.

The Cullen's could wish the same for Renesmee.

Caesar lets Renesmee come near, not sensing any danger.

Renesmee lowers herself to her knees before Caesar and reaches out a hand toward his face.

Aggressive snarls break out from Blue Eyes, Koba, and Rocket, but Caesar holds out a hand to keep them back.

Caesar and Renesmee retain eye contact with each other as she uses her gift to show that she and her family mean no harm.

"What's she showing him," said Bella.

"Everything," said Edward. "From the moment she was born to the present."

Edward speaks the truth. Renesmee shows Caesar everything from when she was born, their family, hunting habits, and the hard trials they had to go through including the Volturi and losing friends and extended family along the way.

The entire time this is going on unsettlement hoots, grunts, and murmurs spread through the watching crowd as they witness in confusion to what is occurring.

Finally, Renesmee retracts her hand from Caesar's cheek.

Caesar blinks, shutting his eyes and releasing a shaky exhale.

Without taking her eyes off Caesar, Renesmee slowly retraces her steps until she's within reach of the others.

Bella, Alice, Rosalie, and Esme, encircle her in their arms for security.

Cornelia places a hand on her mate's arms, hooting worriedly to get his attention.

Opening his eyes, the expression on Caesar's face is not fear, hatred, contempt or disgruntlement.

No, there is cautionary acceptance as he regards the rest of the Cullen's.

Shifting so that he's directly within Caesar's line of sight, Blue Eyes signed "Father, what is it? What did that human just do?"

"Something none of us ever thought possible," signed Caesar, marveling at what he'd just undergone. "Maurice, Luca, Rocket, Koba, Grey, Stone, Blue Eyes, Ash, I need you all to step forward and allow this child to touch you as she did me."

"What," signed Koba, angrily.

"Caesar, what's going on," said Rocket.

"I need you to trust me," signed Caesar, waving them all forward.

Renesmee eagerly approached with Caesar's permission and Edwards's word that it was okay.

One by one each member of the Council obeyed their leader, except Koba. No matter how much Caesar insisted, Koba would not permit Renesmee to touch him and prevented Grey and Stone from doing the same.

As soon as the process was complete, every single one of the Council members that were on the receiving end of Renesmee's power now shared their leaders bemused and dumbfounded astoundment.

Sharing a decisive look with his Council and redirecting onto Carlisle, talking from dominant male to dominant male, Caesar said "We have much more to talk about."

And talk they did.

Twilight Meets The Dawn Chapter 5

To the surprise of many the meeting between the Cullen's, Caesar, and the Council was moved inside the alpha's private domain so that they could all talk.

Many of the tribe both young and old crowded around the dwelling to try and peek, see, and hear what was going on, but the gorilla guard members stationed around the tree to prevent people from eavesdropping weren't allowing that. They bared anyone who didn't have permission from the entrance.

And speaking of Luca…

"I'm concerned about those nomads out there. They don't share the same diet as these Cullen's do. What about them? Any of these nomads can come into the territory and possibly see us as a food source when the human supply runs dry," said Luca, worriedly.

Nodding, Maurice said "I concur with Luca. The children, especially, are in danger of this. Of course, they already know not to leave the village walls without an adult, but there are still a couple of mischievous ones here and there that try and sneak out from time to time. If they're caught out there without protection, I don't know what we could do."

It's true. As strong as they all are no one in the tribe would be much of a match against a vampire.

The possibility of that occurring on their watch is very disconcerting after being blindsided like this.

Carlisle and Esme were quick to reassure them that no known nomads were in the area and even if some did in the future then they'd be the ones to handle it and make sure that none came near their home on the way to the human settlement down in San Francisco.

But this wasn't the only thing they had to contend with.

While those that had been on the receiving end of Renesmee's power others had not and after learning what the Cullen's are wanted nothing more than to see them either chased out or killed.

More specifically, Koba and his cohorts Stone and Grey. Koba was the most vocal about it, wanting nothing to do with them after watching them take down that grizzly bear so fiercely. Grey and Stone sat quietly behind their friend for support, taking it all in. Not that Koba's argument didn't have its merits. As one of the strongest warriors in the tribe, it's his duty to protect the village. And to let in supposedly invincible and indestructible predators that have the appearance and were once human at that went against everything he stood for. Viewing them as a threat to their very existence and way of life.

Understandable, yet problematic.

Jasper is doing his utmost best to keep the emotions of everyone present level in order to make this a seamless transition and a peaceful integration, but Koba is making it extremely difficult. The sheer levels of hate, loathing, and distrust toward them are hard to suppress even for Jasper which is a first for him.

Edward kind of made it worse for them when he made the mistake of voicing to Koba that they weren't like the humans that kept him imprisoned and experimented on him for most of his life. When asked how Edward knew that he was made to divulge what his gift was.

Koba freaked out even more at that.

This kind of forced their hand.

Their original approach was to wait patiently for the Council to reach a decision on their own. But enough concern had arisen to where Carlisle felt it was time to intervene and make a gentle push for one.

Leaning forward, looking directly into Caesar's eyes, Carlisle said "Caesar, I know seeing us today was a shock, and not everyone here will be for it, but my family and I do not mean you and yours any harm. Each one of us carries a skill that can be useful to the Colony. If you give us a chance and let us stay, then I guarantee you won't regret it."

A heavy silence follows as all look to Caesar to garner what his choice on this matter will be.

Cornelia is holding Caesar's hand in one of her own and Blue Eyes is watching his face closely, searching for any hint of where this is going to go.

Caesar's expressionless face is strewn with contemplation as he considers the opinions from all angles presented to him including ones from the vampires.

Finally reaching a consensus, Caesar signed "For what you did in protecting our own this day, we will give you a chance."

The Cullen's would have many chances to prove themselves as they begin to carve a new life for themselves here in the Redwoods with this community.

Chapter 7: Twilight Meets The Dawn Chapter 6

Chapter Text

Disclaimer: I own nothing except the current combination for Twilight and Planet Of The Apes and any alterations to the original storyline plot this creates to various readers' amusement everywhere across the globe.

Twilight Meets The Dawn Chapter 6

In the following year, the Cullens would obtain many opportunities to prove themselves to their new community.

Each and every single one of them used skills that suited positions they now found themselves engrossed in and what best suited their personalities in order to earn trust.

For instance, Carlisle's natural talents lay in the medical field. So, while there's not exactly a hospital, Carlisle offers his services to the tribes' healers as best he possibly can.

Esme would end up routinely dividing her time between assisting Carlisle and joining Maurice in participating in the children's education. Lending what knowledge, she has and to fill in the gaps whenever the ape children have a question that the wise orangutan can't answer on his own.

Turns out Esme isn't the only one to initially choose this direction.

Bella, Rosalie, Alice, and Renesmee followed along with the Cullen matriarch in joining her at the school and helping take care of the children. As expected, Renesmee had no problems with fitting in. As a child herself, Renesmee integrated herself in there quite quickly amongst the little ones quite quickly.

Subsequently, Rosalie, Bella, and Alice are the same way, but in entirely different manners and reasons behind them.

Alice's bubbly and overly positive personality appealed to many of the children and their mothers right away which is unsurprising to many of the Cullen's. Alice simply has that personality that draws people in.

Bella being a mother herself has a very nurturing nature.

For Rosalie, it hit more to home. You see, even when she was human, Rosalie had always wanted to be a mother and have a baby of her own. When Renesmee was born, she had the chance at that, but as an aunt. Because of Renesmee's enhanced growth, she couldn't experience Renesmee as a baby for very long in spite of how enjoyable it all was. So, becoming a caretaker for these little ones during lessons with Maurice is wonderful for her. She can baby, spoil, and cuddle the littlest ones as much as they want her to.

Now the boys found a different purpose.

Edward, Jasper, and Emmett gravitated toward the Gorilla Guard and the hunting parties. Edward's gift especially proved very useful for the tribe. Thanks to his mindreading skills he's able to detect whenever a dangerous predator is getting too close to the village wall boundary and they're able to get to and eliminate it before any serious damage is done. Plus, he can detect when a herd is nearby and a hunting party can be set out to restock their meat supply.

Jasper and Emmett can find themselves relating to the Gorilla Guard more than the others. Jasper for his time fighting in the American Civil War as a soldier in his human life and Emmett…well…Emmett because of his strength, easygoing nature, and rough-and-tumble personality.

Slowly everyone managed to find and fit into their proper place.

While trust is steadily won over time by those who are sensible there are still those in the tribe that have proven resistant to the Cullens residency and continued participation in village life.

Definitely Koba and his friends Grey and Stone along with some others that shared their opinion.

Koba was downright infuriated when Caesar decided to let them stay. He had no qualms about voicing and showing his displeasure either. At the beginning of all this Koba would regularly accuse the Cullens of spying for the humans down below, but, as time went on, and after the Cullens went scavenging and returned with much-needed medical supplies they got from vacant hospitals in the city and smaller neighboring vacant towns that proved unfounded. To this day, Koba still hasn't changed his mind about it although others mulled it over and switched opinions.

Analyzing this minority, it is hard to gauge their reactions and dispositions, but thanks to Edward and Jasper they're keeping an eye on the thoughts and emotions around them although they make a point not to influence against free will in any way. That's one line none of them will cross.

It's a peaceful stalemate that hasn't been disrupted. As long as the peace is kept then there shouldn't be any problems.

At the end of the year mark, discord is the last thing on Caesar's mind.

The one thing that is truly weighing on Caesar is his wife's most recent pregnancy. When she'd been carrying Blue Eyes, it was straining, but there wasn't anything concerning about it. It was a hard one, but what birth is? This one is different. Cornelia's been drained a bit more lately and it's been worrisome. The healers and Carlisle have been monitoring her closely at that which should push Caesar's worries aside.

Needless to say, Caesar will be mightily relieved when this current pregnancy for Cornelia is done and over with.

Which will be today.

Caesar and a select group of apes had been returning from a smaller-scale hunt when they were met with this revelation.

Anxious hoots caused Caesar to stop speaking to some of his subjects who had approached to look in the direction of his family's dwelling. He recognized Tinker frantically waving him up pointing inside the interior of the tree. Caesar instantly knew one reason Tinker would be acting this way along with wearing a veil over her face.

Cornelia.

Moving with haste Caesar then climbed up to Tinker allowing the female to lead the way.

Esme meets him at the entrance to the nest, wearing a veil over her face like the other females out of respect for their traditions even though she doesn't require it. She does so to be polite.

Placing a reassuring hand on Caesar's shoulder, Esme said "It won't be long now. Cornelia is almost there."

Once inside the assembled midwives and numerous other females surrounding Cornelia cleared a path for him to get to her.

As expected of him, Carlisle is kneeling near Cornelia's head, assisting the healers in doing all they can to soothe Cornelia's pain with herbs. But Esme is correct. They're in the final leg of it now.

It's no surprise that Carlisle is there with the healers. Carlisle had been keeping track of Cornelia's progress throughout her pregnancy and made no secret of his concerns about her health. He would've insisted on attending the live birth. After giving Caesar an update, Esme goes over there to lend comfort and support to Cornelia.

Cornelia was in bad shape appearing extremely tired shaking all over from the strain she was under already whimpering a little, leaving Carlisle's concerns more than justified.

She'd been in labor since early morning not long after the hunters left. After months of waiting Caesar and Cornelia's second child is about to be born. Whether it is a boy or girl they had no clue. All they cared about was that whatever the gender of the baby is it's healthy.

Hands trembling Cornelia reached for Caesar begging him to help ease the pain. At the same time, Cornelia curled into herself as another contraction hit.

Slowly Caesar approached a tender loving expression on his face as he gazed at his wife.

Taking her hand, Caesar knelt beside his wife. Having him there with her perhaps gave Cornelia the boost she needed for that one last-ditch effort.

Cornelia groaned pushing with all her might the feeling of Caesars, Esme's, and the other female's hands on her flesh lending her the strength to fight.

Seconds later Cornelia gasped collapsing onto her back as a tiny squeaking, thrashing baby was pulled from her. Cornelia took the squirming baby into her arms from the many hands that held the child, settling him against her chest. If there was any sort of indication the volume of the baby's cries showed it had a healthy set of lungs. Everything was in its proper place as it should be. The infant was so minuscule it couldn't have weighed more than four pounds.

Awestruck by the newborn Caesar gives the baby his hand. The infant latched its fingers spread holding tight to one of his fathers. He gently cupped the baby's little head in the palm of his hand hooting quietly to the little one to soothe him. The method succeeded in the newborn's cries receding as he snuggled into his mother.

Clapping a congratulatory hand on Caesar's arm, smiling, Carlisle said "Congratulations, Caesar."

Returning the smile, Caesar pats a hand on Carlisle's arm in thanks.

The snap of a twig on the floor signaled Blue Eyes coming in to see the baby. The ape children from Maurice's class were curious too. They were discovered peeking from outside hanging from sections of the tree. Even Renesmee has joined them, peering inside with curious and sparkling eyes. Blue Eyes stared in wonder at the infant, astonished at the fact that he was now a big brother where just minutes ago he was an only child.

Beckoning to Blue Eyes, Caesar signed "Come meet your new brother."

Accepting the invitation Blue Eyes slowly came over. Each tentative step Blue Eyes took revealed to all how nervous he was, but he joined them nevertheless.

Cornelia currently had one hand wrapped around the baby. When Blue Eyes got close enough she put the other on Blue Eye's head pressing his forehead to hers. Caesar had both hands cocooned around the baby sheltering it in his powerful hands.

All four breathed together in sync with the baby almost forgetting completely anyone else was present with them. The five of them were the only ones who mattered.

That very evening a grand ceremony overran the entire village celebrating the birth. A feast was held for the celebration, one of the largest they'd had in quite a long time.

Sitting on a ledge overlooking the fire pit, where the vast majority of the Colony had gathered, beside the wall where Maurice taught his lessons to the new generation sat the royal family. Caesar was sitting on his throne, Cornelia and Blue Eyes on the right of him. The baby was fast asleep cradled in Cornelia's arms after a thorough checkup from Carlisle. The little boy is proving healthy and strong if not a bit tired. It took a lot of work to be born. He needed to rest.

During the festivities, ape after ape brought tribute to Caesar. The variety of offerings ranged from flowers, pelts, and different varieties of food. Ones that were accepted with appreciation.

The Cullens were enjoying the festivities off to the side, being included in games and conversation with the friends they've made.

Almost toward the end of the feast, Caesar raised a hand to draw attention over to him when the last tribute was made. All became silent and focused on Caesar.

"Apes together strong," boomed Caesar.

Indeed, they are and Caesar couldn't have been more proud leading each and every single one of them.

Hours passed with the celebration reaching its peak. Many were retiring to their huts to sleep though a number remained awake continuing to enjoy what was left of the festivities.

Caesar bid his wife and newborn goodnight choosing to stay a little while longer. Blue Eyes had already gone having decided to turn in early. The day's events had taken their toll. So, Cornelia climbed the steps back into their oak tree assisted by one of her multiple midwives.

Renesmee headed off to sleep while the elder Cullens spread out around the settlement to guard for the evening while everyone else could rest easy.

Caesar had taken a seat on the roots of the tree Maurice sitting beside him, so the two could talk alone.

"Another son," congratulated Maurice, pleased for his old friend.

Chuckling, Caesar signed"Makes me think how far we've come, Maurice."

Together they looked out at the forest and the human city that lay beyond.

"Seems long ago," signed Maurice, pointing at the decrepit city."Still think about them?"

"Humans," asked Caesar.

Maurice nodded in reply.

Shrugging, solemn, Caesar admitted "Sometimes."

It would be extremely difficult for Caesar not to with how much his human family meant to him.

"Didn't know them like you did," signed Maurice."Only saw their bad side."

A shame, not all apes were as fortunate as Caesar had been.

"Good, bad…doesn't matter now," signed Caesar, gravely."Humans destroyed each other."

Maurice mentioned "Apes fight too."

"But we are family," insisted Caesar, smiling.

Maurice conceded at the point rather than agreeing with it.

Caesar signed"Wonder if they're all gone."

"I doubt that. In these ten winters they may not have come here, but Carlisle said there's still a number down in the human city. Other than the Cullen's none have come here. They would tell us if they were all gone," presumed Maurice.

Despite the truth behind Maurice's words, Caesar did still carry some worries. The population of the humans had been so large before they'd turned on each other.

But as much as they liked this interval to their peaceful existence, they are unaware that tomorrow all of their lives are about to be seriously upended once again.

Twilight Meets The Dawn Chapter 7

Waking before most of the villagers were out of their huts Blue Eyes and Ash were eager to start the day.

Last night, during the evening feast, the adolescents had conversed with Edward about going down to the river to do some fishing. Liking the idea, Edward agreed to accompany them both to act as a guard and for some added fun.

The sun had barely risen in the sky, but some apes were beginning their daily routines by the time they left. A few were even congregating around the fire pit, sharing their morning meals together.

Two of whom were Ash's parents, Rocket and Tinker.

Rocket and Tinker wave at the trio, and they return the gesture. After the alpha awakens and emerges, Rocket will no doubt inform Caesar about where their sons have gone.

They pass by Emmett and Jasper at the village boundary, and they do the same to them. Carlisle will no doubt be alerted to where they are in just a few short minutes.

The trip to the river doesn't take long.

The three of them soon were at a selected fishing spot in the river. Shallow rapids spread out into the middle of the river downstream, the deeper calm water at the outside of the bend. They'd come here multiple times and always return to the tribe with something to show for it. It's a favored position by many.

Blue Eyes and Ash were side by side together in the shallows looking at the water and patiently waiting for any trout to get within their sights. The fish camouflaged well blending in with the rocks, so it was hard to get them, but the satisfaction when eating one was worth the effort in the long run.

Edward is standing behind them, keeping a keen eye out for any predators in the vicinity since his two companions are too preoccupied at the moment to remain vigilant. Especially, with Ash's usual shenanigans added into the mix.

Blue Eyes had his spear poised arm raised searching for a target within range. He was perfectly still so he wouldn't startle the fish with any sudden movements. This needed to be done quietly and neatly.

Suddenly Ash threw his hand out thumping Blue Eyes in the chest breaking his concentration on purpose.

Screeching in indignation, Blue Eyes signed"Ash!"

Edward laughs in amusement at this. Of course, Edward could've warned Blue Eyes about what Ash was going to do, but where's the fun in that?

Ash laughed good-naturedly, signing"Hey, no big deal. You'll just have to pick another one."

Scowling Blue Eyes went to do that.

Luck is on Blue Eyes' side. Without Ash messing around anymore Blue Eyes does catch some fish. Enough for both of their families. These trout are soon strung up and hanging from his spear, hanging by their gills on some vines.

Going home with two trout was better than returning with none. The fish were hanging by their gills on some vines tied onto the spear.

Grinning, Ash teased"The bear wouldn't get me Blue Eyes. I'm quick."

"Me neither," said Edward.

"Shut up, Ash," signed Blue Eyes, punching his friend lightly in the shoulder, and smiling. "And you have an unfair advantage with how fast your kind is, Edward."

Following the path from the river, the three of them were almost home. It wouldn't be long before they came across the gates. They'd just turned a corner around a large tree when Edward suddenly stopped in his tracks, flinging out his arms to stop Ash and Blue Eyes advance.

"What is it, Edward," signed Ash.

"Is it a predator," signed Blue Eyes, scanning the area for potential danger.

"Shush," said Edward, holding up a finger for silence, shutting his eyes, and breathing in deeply to absorb the numerous scents from the air around them. Upwind of them a specific odor has reached Edward's nose. He does not recognize it anymore, but to make absolutely sure that he's not just imagining things, Edward reaches out with his mind to touch a nearby entity that is slowly getting closer. Now confirmed, Edward snaps his eyes open in alarm. "Human!"

"What," rasped Blue Eyes, speaking for the first time this entire excursion which shows how badly this information alarms him.

"Where," signed Ash, eyes, wide.

"Coming this way up the path right now. There's a whole group of them," said Edward, eyes trained on the path ahead of them that leads downhill.

"We need to get to the village now," signed Blue Eyes.

Shaking his head, Edward said "Too late. There's not enough time. They'll see us if we do that. Into the trees. Hold on tight."

Edward takes hold of both of their arms and ascends into the trees above. Reaching a point high enough to where the three of them are completely concealed and in a spot where others cannot see them unless they move or make any noise.

Crouching low on the branches, the three of them peer through the leaves and branches and spot the exact creature Edward had sensed by scent and mind.

A human. Not a fellow vampire, but an actual human living and breathing human being.

And not just a single human. There are six in total.

One teenager and five adults. Four men and one woman.

From what Edward can gather from quick and brief looks, their names are Alex, Malcolm, Ellie, Foster, Carver, and Kemp.

As they are walking by on the path, Edward does some digging through their heads and discovers their purpose for venturing this far into the Redwoods after the human colony hasn't stepped foot on this side of the Golden Gate Bridge for years.

A dam. A dam that can replace and reignite power throughout the entirety of San Francisco.

This is big. Caesar must be notified of this immediately.

The humans are almost out of the way when Ash briefly shifts on the branch and a twig snaps off, causing a tense Blue Eyes to jerk in place and Edward to wince.

The noise catches the attention of the leader, Malcolm, at the rear of the pack.

Stopping, Malcolm turns around and scans the trees.

His wife, Ellie, stops too.

Concerned, she said, "Malcolm, what is it?"

Not seeing anything, shaking his head, Malcolm said "Probably a squirrel or a bird. Come on. We don't want to fall behind."

Malcolm rejoins Ellie and the two quickly catch up to the rest of their group.

Only when the six were out of sight did Edward permit Ash and Blue Eyes to even move from their positions.

"We need to tell the Council," breathed Edward.

This time Ash and Blue Eyes didn't protest as Edward sped off with a firm grip on each of them.

As soon as they returned to the village the three of them wasted no time in relaying the news about what they saw to the higher-ups.

And it didn't take long for it to spread through the masses as others watching had deciphered the hand signs they'd been speaking in.

The whole Ape Colony was working themselves into a frenzy.

The apes that were old enough to remember were understandably afraid both for themselves and their loved ones. The majority of them didn't have any good experiences with humans. They didn't wish for their offspring to suffer the same horrors they did.

The little ones were perplexed. They knew to stay away from humans if they ever ran across them thanks to their daily lessons, but their initial fear of humankind has lessened because of their interactions with the Cullens.

Caesar was doing his best to pacify those in his charge. Needless to say, it wasn't an easy task, but he managed to neutralize them. Well for the time being at least.

A meeting is soon convened on the law stone.

On a stone platform in front of where the ape's three most absolute laws were carved for all to see Caesar's most trusted apes were gathered with the Cullens counted in their number on the outskirt of the circle. On this platform, Caesar's symbol which was a stylized diamond enclosed in a circle was carved. It represented his old home, all he held dear to his heart there, and how far they've evolved.

Everyone is speaking at once, trying to get their opinions seen and heard.

Koba is one of the most vocal, wanting to force these outsiders out at once.

"Must attack them now! Before they attack us," grunted Koba, signing angrily.

Holding up a placating hand, Maurice contradicted"We don't know how many there are. These six could be a sign of a larger group. Nor do we know how many guns do they have?"

Koba scoffed waving aside Maurice's inquiries dismissing them despite how logical they were.

"Or why they came up here," signed Luca, adding in his say.

"What about you, Rocket," persisted Koba. "Don't you want to fight?"

"I follow Caesar," signed Rocket, decisive, disappointing the bonobo.

Not what he wanted to hear, Koba releases a low mix of a huff and snarl.

Much to the surprise of many Blue Eye's shares Koba's sentiments on this issue.

Shaking his head, speaking out loud, Blue Eyes said "Koba's right!"

Despite getting to know the Cullen's and having friendly relations with them that doesn't necessarily mean that he's open to all humans around them.

Caesars is certainly displeased about this. The moment he heard the words exit Blue Eye's mouth there was a brief flash of anger on his face. But just as quickly as it appeared the anger was gone.

Arguing broke out amongst the council at Blue Eye's outburst each person wanting their own opinions to be heard above everyone else's. Caesar, Maurice, and the Cullens were the only ones that didn't participate.

As the ensuing argument reached its height he finally intervened.

"No," bellowed Caesar.

The arguing came to an abrupt halt even conversations held by apes surrounding the council stopped. The authority laced in his voice was unquestionably powerful.

Slowly, careful in making sure all got the message, Caesar signed"If we go to war, we could lose all we've built."The next part he said out loud emphasizing its grave importance gently reminding them of all they had to lose should a war arise. "Home. Family. Future."

Caesar paused, allowing what he was saying to fully sink in satisfied it was hitting home seeing a few of their heads bowed in shame for contemplating it.

All these things are serious points that everyone must consider.

Turning toward Edward, Caesar signed "Edward, when you looked into their minds, what could you make out of their intentions?"

"Okay, just to make sure there's no confusion, how many of you know what a dam is," asked Edward.

A small handful of them raise their hands in response to that.

"I'll trust you to explain it to the rest, but, basically, the humans have come up here because their fuel supplies for down below are almost depleted. They need to replace their power core with the dam in the mountains. If they somehow manage to get that working again then they won't have to worry about power again throughout San Francisco," explained Edward. "They don't seem intent on anything else other than that. It doesn't appear like they have any clue we're up here."

It's that one thing alone that's reassuring. The rest is bringing about rising stress levels and anxiety.

Maurice signed "How long do you gather they'll be staying here for?"

"Not certain. They need to assess the damage and repairs that need to be done to the dam first before deciding on any of them. It's just that small team they have with them, so it might take a while," said Edward, assessing it.

That's not something any of them want to hear.

"We will keep our presence here concealed, watch, and wait. We keep our activity to a minimal to avoid discovery. Until we know whether or not these humans are a threat to us we keep our activity to a minimum," decided Caesar. "For now, we should all get some rest. We may need it. Carlisle?"

"Yes, Caesar," said Carlisle, leaning forward so Caesar could see him.

"Your family is better at stealth than we are. Since no ape is going to be permitted to leave the village unless authorized or accompanied by one of you can all of you increase patrols and guard duty given that you don't sleep," inquired Caesar.

Nodding, Esme answered "Of course, Caesar. Whatever you all need."

"Then there's nothing left to discuss. Everyone is dismissed," signed Caesar, decisively.

With that, the meeting was adjourned.

Everyone was worried about what the arrival of this group of humans would mean for everyone. While the apes were right to be fearfully cautious after all the adults have endured from various humans' cruelty and the other points already declared, the Cullens have equal reason to be from a different perspective.

The Cullens may not have had to hide what they are from the apes, but from humans, it's an entirely different story altogether. The Volturi may be gone, but that doesn't mean that some of the rules still don't stick even with humanity no longer capable of the weapons that could potentially kill vampires when humanity was at its peak.

The Cullens must be very careful in maintaining their covers. In regard to the experience, they all have in doing so from moving around all the time it shouldn't be hard to do so if a situation arises where confrontation is inevitable.

They just hope nothing happens that removes control from their hands.

Climate change is altering so much faster than anyone can really keep track of.

So, in light of all this, it is important to live life to the fullest as much as anyone can.

I know I am. ;) See you guys next time.
