Chapter 1: Moonlight
Chapter Text
The full moon is able to reveal the true nature of whatever is seen in its light, causing all forms of illusion to fade away. However contrary to what is often assumed this phenomenon is more akin to a psychic force than a disruption to illusionary and mind altering magic. This can be observed through moonlight's effectiveness on non magical means of deception such as the false hydras song and the silkbloods puppets.
It is the role of moonlight diviners to make use of such moonlight to ensure that all is as it should be within major cities and to direct damage control when large groups of citizens are exposed to distressing truths, or in some cases any that are simply inconvenient to local lords.
However, mastery of the full moons light is most of all in the domain of the witches, as such secretive covens alone are exempt from the second effect of moonlight, that being that it is unbearable to those who wield magic, particularly of arcane origin, whereupon exposure results in pain and panic scaling with one's ability and knowledge.
Chapter Text
Movement magic consists of activating a spell to force the casters body to move in a predetermined manner. This magic is often used to mimic the actions of experienced weapon users and martial artists, but it must be noted that it does not grant the ability to react or follow up beyond the prepared move. Experienced casters often incorporate elements of enhancement magic to pull off extraordinary feats without having to cast full fledged enhancement magic.
While somewhat unpopular it is also possible to use movement magic to complete physical gesture components of other magic to make it easier to cast, and Advanced runic application of movement magic allows the formation of scripts for use in the creation of automatons, however as movement magic does not allow for the manipulation of inanimate objects the subject of the runes must be otherwise able to move under its own power.
At the time of writing, movement magic has been falling out of use due to it being too dangerous for inexperienced casters while also being simple magic that is overshadowed by other spells once a caster is experienced enough to use it safely. casting beyond your abilities may result in your magic forcing your body to move in ways that cause you harm and even peer reviewed magic may stress your body beyond its limits, or all too often the caster will simply fail to consider that the spell does not account for ones surroundings, causing a nasty fall.
Notes:
i actually wrote most of this entry before chapter 1, but chapter 1 is based off the original concept that inspired this book (moonlight being able to reveal the true nature of things) so i wanted to put it first lol. anyway i think the next chapter is going to be about a sheep creature with cool magic stuff so look forward to that
