Chapter Text

The team have finally managed to find Jay after hours spent looking for him and they have tracked him down to an abandoned house on 4041 S. Emerald Avenue.

When the team had found out Jay had been taken they didn't understand why as no-one had made any threats against him and the team knew that their last few cases had gone without anyone saying that they would be demanding retribution.

Hank had got the team to look into Jay's whereabouts for the last few weeks as he knew the young detective was hiding something but he thought Jay would come to him.

Kim had come back and told them that Jay had been secretly seeing the mother and helping her son as husband/father had been one of the victims who had been shot in their previous case a few weeks back and Jay had been helping with some money and he was last seen talking to her and the child.

Hank and Kim went to her address and she told them that she didn't know anything but once Kim threatened her with DCFS and went to make the call the woman gave them the address and she was proud that Jay had been taken so Kim made the call and told the woman that she herself must face the consequences of what's happened.

Once two officers had arrived and a woman from DCFS had come, Kim radioed the others and told them to meet them at the address and she gave it to them.

The whole team was outside and they were just waiting on Voights orders.

“I want Jay out first as he is our priority. Do you all understand me?” Voight asks the group of officers surrounding him.

Everyone gives Hank a nod of understanding.

“I want Burgess and Atwater with me as we take the front and Upton,Ruzek and Rojas you take the back” Voight says.

“I'll have officers out here just in case things go sideways,” Trudy says.

Hank nods to Trudy and he turns to face Kim and Kevin and he pulls out his gun.

Once Ruzek has told Voight that they are in place over their radio Hank walks up to the house and bangs on the door.

“Chicago Police Department” Hank shouts.

There is complete silence and Voight kicks in the door and Kim and Kevin are behind him as they enter the house.

Adam,Hailey and Vanessa enter through the back and they have their guns pointing in every direction.

“No-one's here Sarge” Adam says.

“Look through the entire house” Voight orders them.

Everyone gets to work and Kim follows Voight into the kitchen and they look through all the drawers.

Adam takes the bedrooms upstairs, Hailey takes the living room,Vanessa takes the the bathroom and the laundry room and Kevin takes the dining room.

No-one seems to find anything and Hank is getting frustrated as he does not want to go to Med and tell Will that his brother has been kidnapped and they can't find him.

Kim looks at her boss and she knows that this is hitting him hard as she knows that Jay and Hank are together but haven't told anyone yet as it's still new for them.

When Kim and Jay were working undercover they started to talk about what was going on in their lives and Jay told her that he was seeing someone and that it happened to be Voight that he and Voight haven't told anyone.

Kim told Jay she won't tell anyone as she herself was dealing with something and she didn't want anyone to know.

Everyone comes back into the kitchen and their faces tell Voight they haven't found anything.

“Sorry Sarge” Vanessa says.

“There is nothing here,” Hailey says.

“OK, let's get back to the station,” Voight says.

Just as the group is leaving Kim stops when she hears something coming from the basement.

“Sarge,” Kim says.

Voight stops when he hears Kim call him and he goes back into the kitchen.

“What's up?” Voight asks.

“Listen,” Kim says.

Voight does as Kim says and he hears some noise coming from the basement.

Voight and Kim both pull out their guns and head to the door and once it's opened they step inside and walk down the stairs and Kim pulls out her flashlight and she turns it on and the room is disgusting and it's clear that someone has been living here but whether by choice or not that's the question.

Hank looks around and he sees a pair of legs and Kim pointed the flashlight to the pair of legs and to their horror it was Jay.

Jay's face was covered in bruises with blood coming down his face,one of his eyes closed.

Jay is also lying in his own vomit and both Kim and Hank go to him and Kim feels for a pulse and she can feel one but it's faint.

“We need to get him to Med now,” Kim says.

Hank radios for an ambulance and tells dispatch they have an officer down and dispatch tells him that the ambulance is a minute out.

When the rest of the team hear that Jay is the officer down they run back into the house but just as they are about to enter Sylvie Brett and Emily Foster from firehouse 51 come out the ambulance and tell them to move out their way and the two paramedics head to the basement.

Once the paramedics have entered they get to work on Jay and they both look at each other and they know that Jay is not going to survive but they do what they can.

Once Jay is on the gurney they get him out the house and they are met with other police officers and Trudy is in front and Brett gives her a look and Trudy looks at Brett and the paramedic in charge knows that look means take care of my boy.

Brett and Foster get to Med and they are greeted by DR’s Ethan Choi and Crockett Marcel.

Brett got out of the driver's seat and she went straight to opening the doors.

“Male, early 30s has blood running down his face after sustaining blows to the face he has a faint pulse” Brett says.

“OK guys bay 2” Maggie says coming up behind Choi and Marcel.

“What's the name?” Marcel asks.

“It's Jay Halstead,” Foster says.

Everyone stops dead and they look at Brett and she knows that they are scared that Jay will die and one of them will need to tell Will.

Once they have Jay on a bed Maggie,April,Ethan and Crockett get to work and it's like they are fighting a clock as no matter what they do nothing seems to be helping.

“He's going into V-fib” Maggie says.

“Get me the defibrillator and April I need you to start chest compensations?” Ethan asks.

Maggie gets the machine and April starts chest compensations and after putting the pads on Jay's chest Ethan charges the machine and tells everyone to stand back and he shocks Jay and nothing happens.

Ethan tries again but he gets the same result and he tries a third time and again the monitor is showing them that it hasn't helped.

20 minutes later Ethan and everyone else have agreed to call time of death and now they need to decide who is going to break Will's world.

Sharon had come down to the ED to see how things had been running as there had been rumors about what Dr. Ava Bekker did to Dr. Connor Rhodes dad and how instead of facing the consequences she killed herself.

Sharon gets out the elevator and she walks to the nurses station and as she passes the waiting room she sees all of CPD are here and she hopes the officer survived.

“Maggie how's the police officer doing?” Sharon asks.

“Sharon, we need to speak to you privately” Maggie says.

Sharon looks at Maggie,April,Ethan and Crockett and she knows she's not going to like this.

The group go into the doctors lounge and the only other doctor in there is Dr. Natalie Manning.

“Dr Manning, please leave us” Sharon says.

Natalie gets up and leaves and she wonders what's going on.

“The police officer that was brought in unfortunately didn't survive and we tried everything but his injuries were so bad that he was going to die no matter what” Crockett says.

“OK I still don't understand why we needed to speak in private?” Sharon asks.

“Sharon, it was Detective Jay Halstead,” Maggie says.

Sharon nearly collapses and she is glad that she managed to catch herself.

“My god,” Sharon says.

No-one speaks and the truth is no-one knows what to say anyway.

“Dr Choi please go up to the NICU and you'll find Dr Halstead there and tell him I need to speak to him immediately and Maggie and April I'll need your help telling him and he is going to need your support” Sharon says and she leaves the lounge and heads to her office.

Ethan does as Sharon asks him and the man goes to find Will.

Forks Washington Cullen Residence.

Alice was in the kitchen and she was changing the flowers and putting the new ones in the vase and after picking them up she heads to the living room and she has just entered when she drops the vase.

The entire Cullen household look at Alice and Jasper immediately goes to her and he can see she is having a vision.

“Alice what's happening?” Jasper asks his wife.

Alice is seeing a future decision and it's a man and he is in the hospital and he has brown hair color and he is caucasian and his eyes are green and Carlisle is standing over him.

“A decision has been made,” Alice says.

“What decision and who's made it?” Carlisle asks.

“You need to head to Chicago and go to Gaffney Chicago Medical Center” Alice says.

“Alice, does Carlisle need to save someone?” Esme asks.

“Yes but you'll need to be careful,” Alice says.

Carlisle and Esme have always wanted more kids but they won't go and turn someone into a vampire just to be selfish.

Chapter Text

Carlisle and Emmett Cullen go and get their bags packed and Esme says to her husband she will get the room ready for when he comes back.

Edward drives his brother and father to the airport where they have a private plane waiting for them and once the two are on the plane Edward heads back to the house.

Carlisle is coming up with a plan on how he and Emmett can get into the hospital without people seeing them and his best option is for Emmett to try and find a back door and hopefully that can lead to the morgue.

Emmett and Carlisle plane lands and they get off and get to the car they have waiting for them and tell the driver to go to Gaffney Chicago Medical Center and the driver does as he is told.

“When we get there, I want you to look for a way in,” Carlisle says to Emmett.

“Got it” Emmett says.

The car pulls up and Carlisle and Emmett get out and the driver goes and finds a space to wait for them.

Emmett looks around and he eventually finds the back door and he calls for Carlisle to come over and once they make sure no-one is looking they slip inside.

It takes 20 minutes to get to the morgue and once they slip inside the room and see the guy Alice was talking about as he is the only person in the room.

“Alice described him perfectly and he would definitely fit into our family; some may say him and Edward are brothers” Emmett says.

“Yes he and Edward have certain similarities” Carlisle says.

Carlisle walks up to the man and he can hear his heart still beating but it's faint so Carlisle does what he has to do and he bites into the man and he then pulls back.

“Let's go,” Carlisle says.

Emmett lifts the man up and they head the same way they came in.

Up in the NICU Will is treating a baby for being malnourished and Will looks at the little baby and he wonders how anyone can hurt him.

Will has been spending a lot of time in the NICU and he is going to speak to Miss Goodwin and see if he can do a residency and train as an OBGYN.

Ethan comes out the elevator and he sees Will and he wonders how to be there for his friend.

Ethan goes into the room and he tries and acts normal.

“Hey Will, I'm here to tell you that Miss Goodwin needs to see you” Ethan says.

“Do you know why she wants to see me?” Will asks.

“No I unfortunately don't” Ethan says and he hates that he is lying but it's not his place to tell Will the truth.

“OK let me give the nurse the chart” Wil says and he goes and finds the nurse who is helping him and tells her what medication he has given the baby and what medication the baby needs and at what time and then Will heads to Miss Goodwins office.

Will arrives at Miss Goodwins office and he takes a few moments to get himself together and he then knocks on the door.

Maggie opens the door and Will is shocked to see her and now he is wondering what the hell is going on.

Will enters and he sees April sitting on the couch and Miss Goodwin looks sad instead of angry.

“Dr Halstead please take a seat” Sharon says.

Maggie leads Will to the couch and they both sit down and Maggie takes his hand.

“Dr Halstead earlier tonight a patient was brought in and they had been seriously injured and Dr Choi did all he could but unfortunately the patient died and I'm sorry to tell you this but the patient was your brother Jay” Sharon says.

Will looks at Sharon then he looks at April and then to Maggie and the look on their faces say it's true and Will gets up and runs out the door and Maggie and April are shouting his name but Will is too far ahead to hear.

Will gets to the E.D and he sees and Hank and the team and Will marches up to him and Hank looks at Will and he knows that Jay is gone and when he goes to say something he collapses in Hank's arms and starts crying and Hank wraps his arms around Will and they cry together.

Hank knows that he needs to be there for Will more than ever and not cut Will out his life.

Adam looks on as his boyfriend is dealing with the worst news ever and he may be hurting but it's his boyfriend who is the priority at the moment.

Adam goes up to both Hank and Will and he puts his arms around them and he just stays silent but lets them both know that he is here to support them.

On the plane Emmett is on the phone to Alice and tells her to let the others know they are on their way back.

The plane lands and Carlisle gets off and he sees Esme standing next to her car and Carlisle walks over and he gives her a kiss.

“I wanted to see what he looked like for myself,” Esme says.

Emmett comes out of the plane and he is carrying the man and when Esme sees the stranger that is clearly unconscious she sees the similarities between Edward and him.

Emmett gets to the car and Carlisle opens the door and Emmett puts the man in the backseat and gets inside.

Carlisle and Esme do the same and once inside Esme drives back to the house.

Once they have arrived at the house they take the man into the room that has been set up for him and in the room is Alice,Edward,Bella,Jasper and Rosalie.

Emmett places the man on the bed and he takes a step back and Alice looks at him and she smiles.

“Do you know who this man is?” Bella asks.

“No I don't” Carlisle says.

“Alice, do you know who he is?” Esme asks her daughter.

“I don't” Alice says.

“Well at the moment finding out who he is can wait as once he wakes up he is going to need our help and hopefully we can show him we are to be trusted” Carlisle says.

“Don't worry he is going to trust us” Alice says.

Everyone looks at Alice and they wonder if her ability is progressing but then maybe it's just Alice being her natural self.

“Well we know one thing and that's this man and Edward could pass as brothers” Bella says.

Edward laughs at what his wife says and he too has noticed the similarities between himself and the stranger but he will see what others similarities they share once the man is awake.

Carlisle goes and grabs the adrenaline and he comes back and he gives the stranger some and he looks at him and it's like Alice saw he leans down and Carlisle already thinks Of this man as a son.

The group leaves and lets the transformation begin.

Jay is starting the transformation and thank god he is already unconscious as if he was awake he would be screaming out in agony.

The transformation gives you the feeling of being burned alive even with An injection of Morphine it will cause paralysis that makes Jay feel like he is trapped in his own body.

Eventually,Jay copes with the pain and starts to ignore it. The morphine paralysis eventually wears off, but Jay remains completely still throughout the process to keep from hurting himself.

Near the end of the three days he feels his heart being destroyed and his life flashes before him and he sees images of Will and himself as kids.

Images of him and Hank's first meeting and then to them confessing their feelings.

Images of Him and Kim and how they have become best friends and the team and how he found a family.

The last image is of him and Will and how they were in his apartment and they were acting like brothers do by messing around with each other and laughing.

Jay feels his heart beat for one last time and thud. He opened his eyes and was amazed by his new senses.
