Work Text:
A sheen of sweat appears on Nami’s forehead as she struggles to get comfortable in her lawn chair within the tangerine grove. Sanji, to his credit, has doted on her throughout her entire pregnancy with their first child, but once Nami got closer to being full-term, Sanji started being at her side nearly every second of the day, not wanting to miss any subtle changes with his wife. During the times he could not be beside her, such as when he is cooking meals for the entire crew, Sanji enlists the help of Luffy, Zoro, Usopp, and Chopper to help look out for his darling bride.
“Nami, what is it, love?” Sanji tenderly whispers, dropping his head close to Nami’s ear, nuzzling his cheek against Nami’s tangerine-colored hair. “Did I do something to hurt you?” he continues to question, having dropped his hands from underneath Nami’s axilla because he had helped her reposition herself in the lawn chair.
“No, no. I’m okay, Sanji,” Nami manages to say, a slight grimace overcoming her face as she says his name, a sharp inhale following soon after. “Really,” she continues in an unconvincing tone of voice, which makes Sanji move to sit at her feet, gently splaying Nami’s legs open where he can sit between her legs, their faces nearly touching as he turns his blue gaze intently on his wife.
“Darling, you’re sweating and clearly in pain,” Sanji gently observes, brushing a piece of Nami’s hair behind her ear and settling his other hand at the apex of Nami’s heavily pregnant stomach. “Is someone giving their Mama a hard time today? Little dumpling, I know you’re running out of room in there with how much you’re growing lately, but that does not mean you need to take it out on your beautiful Mama when all she’s done is love you more than anything and is sacrificing her body to give you life,” Sanji whispers, lowering his head to press soft kisses to Nami’s exposed stomach, as the navigator has chosen to wear mostly bikini tops, tanktops, or some of Sanji’s loose fitting shirts the further she advances in her pregnancy with her and Sanji’s first child.
The cook opens the bottle of lotion sitting beside Nami’s chair, gently kneading the skin on Nami’s belly as he rubs the lotion around the entirety of her pregnant stomach, as he has done nearly every day for the past five months once Nami’s baby bump became visible to the rest of the crew. They had managed to keep their little secret between just the two of them until Nami reached fourteen weeks in her pregnancy, as that is the time that the small bulge began to form and the navigator knew it would not be as easy to hide from the rest of the crew at that point in time. Nami sighs deeply, closing her eyes as Sanji lovingly dotes on his wife and unborn child, the skin beneath Sanji’s hands prickling with little sensations of heat at his touch. Due to the powers Vinsmoke Judge had imbued in him as a small child, Sanji has learned he can heat his hands at will and that the natural heat from his hands serves as a major source of muscle relaxation for Nami during the times that their baby is the most active with kicking and moving. Trying her hardest to relax despite the recurrent pain low in her belly and throughout her upper back, Nami can’t help the involuntary grimace and whimper she makes when a contraction ripples through her.
“Nami?” Sanji immediately inquires, stopping his ministrations as he stands upright immediately, his blue eyes narrowing in concern for his wife and her overall comfort.
“More Braxton-Hicks contractions,” Nami reveals, her breath coming out in slightly more ragged gasps as the sensation continues. “Law and Chopper told me they would be happening more towards the end of my pregnancy, remember?” she tries to smile to cover up the immense amount of pain she is currently in.
“Love, they seem to be happening quite a bit more frequently recently,” Sanji reminds, his voice soft as he keeps his eyes trained on his wife’s form, concern rising in his voice. “Are you sure you don’t need Chopper to come and check on you? He’s just right over there with Luffy and Usopp, and I’m sure he wouldn’t mind if---” the cook continues to offer until Nami cuts him off suddenly.
“Sanji, I think I just need some rest,” Nami says, not wanting to worry her husband any further as she had him fully convinced a little over a week ago that she was going into labor at that exact moment when she experienced her first Braxton-Hicks contractions. “Help me to bed?” she asks, holding her hands out to Sanji, her center of gravity majorly thrown off balance recently.
“But of course, my love,” Sanji tenderly says, bending down to grasp Nami’s knees and thighs in his hands before he carefully picks Nami up into his arms, her head resting in the crook of Sanji’s neck as her feet and legs are positioned in his hands.
As Sanji makes his way across the deck of the Thousand Sunny with Nami safely wrapped in his arms, the crew begins to take notice.
“Nami!” Luffy’s voice suddenly comes at such a high volume as the Captain of the Straw Hat Pirates and recent King of the Pirates pops out in front of Sanji, his eyes widening at seeing Nami with sweat gathering on her forehead. “What’s wrong, Nami? Are you okay?” the straw-hat wearing young man demands, his dark brown eyes surveying Nami’s expression and form as she tries her best to relax in Sanji’s embrace.
“Is something wrong with Nami?” comes Usopp’s voice as he, too, runs over to assess the situation occurring with one of his dearest friends. “Anything we can do to help, Sanji? Nami, tell us what you need,” the sharpshooter offers up his aid, opening the door to Sanji and Nami’s room as he understands that is the only predictable trajectory that Sanji could be taking at this time.
“Don’t crowd her, you heathens,” Sanji scoffs, spinning to avoid Luffy as the young Captain tries his hardest to help carry Nami or offer any other form of help. “She needs some rest. It’s hard work growing a baby,” the cook reminds their innocent in the ways of the world leader.
“Well, Robin hasn’t needed Zoro to carry her to bed today to rest! Are you sure you’re not just overreacting in your typical Sanji manner?” Luffy inquires, earning him a swift kick to the head from Sanji in return.
“Luffy, you must remember that I’m not nearly as far along in my pregnancy as Nami is. Our navigator is nearly five months ahead of me, so it has been quite hard on her lately to keep up her normal energy as her body prepares her to deliver her and Sanji’s child,” Robin gently reminds from where she is resting beneath the crow’s nest, Zoro dutifully rubbing sun lotion on her shoulders and back to prevent the resident archaeologist’s naturally tan skin from burning in the extreme sunshine despite it being early November.
“Don’t you forget that I’d happily carry her around the ship should she require it, Luffy,” comes Zoro’s voice when he finishes rubbing in the sun lotion, sitting on the deck behind Robin and wrapping his wife into his embrace, Robin’s back pressing up against Zoro’s chest as the swordsman drops a tender kiss to her lips. “And I’d do it ten times better than that lovesick cook.”
“I can’t dignify that response right now with a swift kick to your head lest I drop my beautiful Nami-swan, but you’re on thin ice, mosshead!” Sanji practically roars in anger from across the deck.
“You’re just scared you’d lose, waiter,” Zoro taunts, his single brown eye narrowing and his lips forming a dastardly smirk.
“Zoro, love, remember that it’s your turn to read to the baby today,” Robin suddenly intervenes, one of her extra Flower Flower fruit hands procuring the book she’s currently in the middle of that she and Zoro have been taking turns reading aloud to help their baby become familiar with the voices of his or her parents.
For once, the tension between the first mate and the cook is immediately dropped as Zoro skims through the book to find where Robin left off yesterday to begin reading the next chapter to his unborn child.
“Sanji, come on! You make our sixth member for a supply run into town!” Luffy calls once Nami is tucked safely into her and Sanji’s room, the navigator doing her best to fall asleep to escape from the pain she is enduring in her stomach and upper back.
“I’m not going, so don’t count me!” Sanji yells as he appears in the doorway of their room, crossing his arms in front of his chest, standing like a guard in front of his wife as she lies in bed. “Do you honestly think I’d leave Nami at a time like this? Make the mosshead go in my place since I seem to have heard his name notably absent from that list.”
“Sanji, you have to go,” Nami softly says from inside their room, her voice thick with exhaustion. “Since Robin and I can’t go on this supply run, then you’re the only other one who can make informed decisions about what food we need to restock the stores. We all know that those morons, excluding Jinbei, of course, wouldn’t know good produce or meat if it hits them directly in the face. Just go, Sanji. I’ll be fine. Promise,” she gently smiles, doing her best to assure her husband. “Besides, I’ll have Zoro, Chopper, and Robin here with me. They won’t let anything happen to me while you’re gone.”
“I swear I’ll look after her, Sanji. Just go on, already. You can count on me,” Zoro calls from across the deck, pride and honor shining in his eye.
Sanji simply nods his thanks, exhaling forcefully as he allows for Luffy and Usopp to lead him away from the Thousand Sunny’s deck.
“You’ll come find me if anything changes?” Sanji inquires softly as he passes by Roronoa Zoro on the way down the ship’s ladder.
“I swear it, Sanji,” Zoro agrees, grasping Sanji’s elbow with his hand, causing Sanji to do the same as the two men swear their second vow they have made with one another since both of their wives became pregnant merely five months apart from one another.
As he naps in the crow’s nest of the Thousand Sunny, Zoro suddenly hears a squishing noise coming from his position of increased elevation. His brown eye opens immediately, his hand automatically resting on his swords before he begins to climb down the ladder to land on the deck with a resounding thud. He pulls the swords from their sheaths, placing Wado Ichimonji in between his teeth, pointing his blades at the four fishmen who are currently encircling him on the deck.
“Well, well, well. Looks like I’ve got a couple of intruders to deal with. What exactly do you think you’re doing on the Pirate Kings ship, you bunch of low-lives?” Zoro growls, noting the mark of the Arlong Pirates emblazoned on the fishmen’s arms, torsos, and backs.
“We heard a rumor that Cat Burglar Nami had settled down and is due to start a family any day now. Arlong requires some penance from his best cartographer being taken away from him so prematurely, so surely her child would make a great addition to his crew,” one of the fishmen, this one a stingray of sorts, menacingly reveals, a battleax quickly appearing in his hand.
“We’ve also heard that the Demon Child, Nico Robin is with child as well. How much do you fellas think her bounty would increase if we handed her over to the Marines in her current condition?” a different fishman, this one more like a shark, wickedly grins, his rows of sharp teeth glinting in the sun.
Over his dead body would Zoro allow any harm to come to his wife and unborn child or to Nami and her child. No one would lay a finger on the two women so long as he still his breath in his body and blood beating in his heart.
“You’re not taking a step further, you bastards,” Zoro reminds, that same growl present in his voice as he holds the tip of his sword at the shark fishman’s throat, anger and a fire present in his brown eye. “If you want them, you’ll have to get through me, first! And, I hate to break it to ya, fellas, but I’m the strongest swordsman in the world, so your odds aren’t lookin’ too great if you ask me,” the green-haired swordsman taunts, a smirk appearing on his lips.
“What do you even care about protecting her for? She’s not your woman,” the fishman leers, and Zoro has to resist the temptation right then and there to break the fishman’s neck without a second thought.
“You’re right, Nami’s not mine, but you also threatened my wife and unborn child if you remember correctly,” Zoro angrily reminds, unsheathing his other two swords and getting into position. “And I may not be that cook’s biggest fan, but damn it, if he isn’t a good man and the best husband for Nami. That head chef raised a hell of a man, even if Sanji and I don’t see eye to eye on most things. He treats Nami as if she’s a goddess and is so extremely loyal and dedicated to her that he'd lose himself entirely if something ever happened to her,” the first mate of the Straw Hats continues, in an extremely rare praise of Sanji and his good qualities. “He would do the same in protecting Robin from harm for me if I was absent, so you can bet that I’m returning the favor. Nami’s safe, loved, and cared for here, and you’re not going to take her away from us. Do I make myself PERFECTLY CLEAR?” Zoro roars, leaping into battle to defend the woman he has grown to think of as his little sister over the years since the Straw Hat crew first formed in the East Blue.
The fishmen seem to now believe that they are in way over their heads, but Zoro doesn’t give them time to make an escape before he spins across the deck, slashing into their thickened skin, causing grave injuries to all four fishmen in a flash. He sheathes his three swords quickly before disposing of the fishmen over the railing of the Thousand Sunny.
“Buncha amateurs!” he taunts over the railing as he watches the fishmen swim off, no doubt to proverbially lick their wounds after losing to an ‘insignificant human’ such as Roronoa Zoro.
Yeah, right. Like he would ever be insignificant again after defeating Dracule Mihawk and obtaining the title of the World’s Strongest Swordsman.
His mission accomplished, Zoro walks into his and Robin’s cabin, a smile splitting his face as he walks in and finds Robin tenderly stroking her rounded stomach, a content grin gracing her features as she continues reading a book aloud to their unborn child. It’s a sight that Zoro frames in his mind and hopes to keep in his memories forever, as this is now his new dream since he has achieved becoming the greatest swordsman and seeing that Luffy attained his goal of being the King of the Pirates.
“You’re so beautiful,” Zoro whispers, padding softly over to their bed, dropping a kiss to Robin’s head as he encircles her growing belly in his hands, the warmth of his palms against Robin’s skin being rewarded with a kick from their unborn child against his right hand.
“Someone missed their Papa’s voice,” Robin happily sighs, wholly comforted by Zoro’s presence as he begins to gently massage her stomach in all the right places, helping to relieve some of the tension from her body.
“I was just out on the deck, little one,” Zoro whispers, crouching down suddenly before he presses his lips lightly against Robin’s pregnant stomach, a soft kiss leaving his lips and being intended for their unborn child.
The world would certainly come to a standstill if it ever became public knowledge how caring and sweet Roronoa Zoro, the greatest swordsman in the world, is to his wife on the safety of the Thousand Sunny.
“There were some intruders I had to take care of,” he continues, a slightly harsher tone coming into his voice as he thinks of the audacity that those fishmen had to not only come to try and take Nami and her unborn baby away from the crew, but also the threats they had for Robin and their own unborn child.
“Is that what all of that commotion out on deck was? I thought I heard you shouting, but I thought that might have just meant that Sanji and the rest of the crew were back,” Robin smirks, knowing just how loud their rag-tag crew can be, especially when Sanji and Zoro begin to fight with one another.
“Don’t worry about it. It’s all been handled, sweetheart,” Zoro reassures, lying in bed next to his wife and keeping one hand placed to where he can feel their unborn child moving beneath his palm. “I would never let anyone try to take you away from me,” he swears, grasping Robin’s hand in his own and giving it a tender squeeze.
Robin and Zoro both contentedly sigh, a moment this tender being rare these days with the near constant threats that appear due to Luffy becoming the King of the Pirates not too long ago. Of course, with the luck of the Straw Hat crew being what it is, the silence does not last very long.
A piercing scream makes Zoro quickly leap to his feet, his right hand quickly going to rest on the hilts of his three swords.
“Zoro! Chopper! Help!” comes the distressed call from Nami’s room, her voice both panicked and pained at the same time.
“Nami?” Robin gasps out, preparing to get to her feet as well.
“Stay here. I’ll go check it out,” Zoro lowly growls, firmly shutting the door to their cabin before he sprints towards Nami and Sanji’s room, his blood boiling in his veins as he thinks of the Hell there will be to pay if those fishmen have come back for a second attempt at kidnapping Nami.
“Zoro!” Nami shouts again, the volume louder and more panicked than the first time she called out.
“Nami, where are you?” Zoro yells back, shoving the door open to Nami and Sanji’s room to find Nami standing at the side of her bed, clutching the headboard of the bed with extremely pale knuckles. “Nami, what’s wrong? Answer me,” the swordsman softly demands, crossing the length of the floor to try and assess what the situation is with the fiery tempered navigator.
“I think my water broke,” Nami whispers, turning to face the crew’s first mate, her eyes brimming with tears and her face full of anguish.
“Okay, well, there’s no need for that sort of overreacting,” Zoro gently says, grabbing a small towel from the dresser. “I’ll just mop it up. No big deal. Luffy knocks over drinks all the time,” he reminds, not sure if he could handle if Robin ever begins to get this emotional the further she advances in her pregnancy.
“No, Zoro! My water broke,” Nami stresses, a painful cry escaping from her lips as she doubles over in pain, grabbing the bottom of her stomach.
“Oh,” Zoro barely whispers, the gravity of the situation suddenly weighing on him. “Oh, that’s a different story altogether. Let’s get you into bed,” the green-haired swordsman continues, crossing the rest of the room and helping Nami climb back into bed, fluffing all of the bed’s pillows behind Nami’s head and back to offer her the most support possible. “Chopper!” Zoro’s voice booms as he shouts at the top of his lungs. “NAMI’S IN LABOR! Call Trafalgar and tell him to get his ass over here to help with her birth!”
“WHAT?!?” comes Chopper’s response as the tiny reindeer doctor appears in the doorway, his bag of medical supplies in hand. “Nami, I thought you’d still have about another week, but I’ll---”
“Someone please go get Sanji!” Nami pleads, her chocolate eyes filling with tears as a mighty contraction tears through her body. “I can’t do this without him!” the navigator cries, tears beginning to flow down her cheeks while the pain intensifies. “I need him here,” she sobs, biting her bottom lip in the process.
“I’ll find him, Nami,” Zoro promises, crossing the room again and collecting Nami’s hands in one of his own. “You hang in there, okay? You’re one of the strongest people I know. You’ve got this,” he reassures, wrapping the navigator in a quick and reassuring hug as he presses a gentle, platonic kiss to the top of her orange hair.
With that, the swordsman sets off, compass and map in hand to go into town to find the cook and the rest of their crew to bring them back for the birth of Sanji and Nami’s first child.
“Why do I get the feeling that Nami needs me?” Sanji speaks up as he, Luffy, Usopp, Franky, Brook, and Jinbei make their way through the town, shopping bags with provisions for the crew loading all six men down in their journey back to the Thousand Sunny.
“You’re probably just worried about her with it being so close to her due date,” Brook gently suggests, one of his bony hands coming to rest reassuringly on the much younger man’s shoulder.
“It’s entirely likely that while on the precipice of fatherhood that your sense of duty and loyalty for Nami will continue to grow,” Jinbei agrees, watching to ensure that Luffy and Usopp are actually keeping up with the crew and not lollygagging at the back.
“I’m sure everything is going to work out, bro. Come on, we’re only about an hour from the Sunny,” Franky encourages, shrugging slightly to redistribute the weight of the kegs of booze he is carrying along with several bags of food provisions.
“SANJI!” comes a booming voice from the forest in front of the six men, accompanied by a disturbance in the heavily wooded area.
“Was that Zoro’s voice?” Usopp inquires, confusion clearly written across the sniper’s face. “I thought he was protecting Nami, Robin, and Chopper on the Sunny?”
“Hey, Zoro! We’re over here!” Luffy shouts, waving his rubber hands back and forth to try and garner the attention of his first mate.
“Something must be wrong. When does Zoro ever use my real name?” Sanji insists, worry beginning to overtake his features as his blue eyes scan the trees for any sight of Roronoa Zoro.
The green-haired swordsman appears from the trees, his sides and chest heaving as he sucks air into his burning lungs.
“Zoro, what is it? Is something---” Sanji begins before Zoro immediately speaks over the top of him.
“Sanji, it’s Nami! She’s in labor!” Zoro shouts, his hands on his knees as he breathes forcefully after making the hour long walk in just twenty minutes as he ran as fast as his lungs, legs, and heart would physically allow.
“I’ve gotta go to her!” Sanji screams, throwing his bags of provisions at Zoro before launching himself in the air with his Sky Walk powers. “Nami, my sweet, I’m coming! Little dumpling, you have to wait to arrive until I get there! Daddy will never forgive himself if he misses your birth!” the cook continues to shout, soon fading into the distance as he pushes himself to the brink of exhaustion to try and get back to the Thousand Sunny as quickly as possible.
“Wow, Zoro, you didn’t get lost when it really mattered!” Usopp says in shock, handing other bags of provisions to Zoro as the band of men prepare to make their way back to the ship.
“Care to repeat that?” Zoro growls, a particularly deadly expression on his face, his brown eye stormy.
“Wow, Zoro, you really were fast getting to us from the Sunny!” the sharpshooter amends, hiding himself behind Franky in the process.
“That’s what I thought you said,” the swordsman grunts out.
“Come on, guys! By the time we get back, we’ll get to meet our newest crew member!” Luffy excitedly shouts, preparing to break off into a full sprint back to the Thousand Sunny.
“Luffy, Nami likely won’t progress that quickly since this is her first baby,” Jinbei explains gently without going into too much detail that would scare their naïve Captain to think of all their navigator will have to endure.
“I wanna meet my first niece or nephew! Hurry up, guys!” the excitable Captain continues, repeatedly bouncing up and down on the balls of his feet to help get the excess energy he has channeled into something slightly more productive than simply screaming at the top of his lungs.
“There’s just no reasoning with him, yo-ho-ho!” Brook laughs, in awe with how truly tender hearted their Captain can be when it comes to his crew.
“When Luffy has his mind set on something, there’s nothing that can hold him back,” Franky agrees, plodding after Luffy as he cuts a clear path through the trees, all while singing a song about the addition of Nami and Sanji’s baby to the crew.
“Nami, my love, I’m here!” Sanji calls out, bursting through the door of his and Nami’s bedroom to find his lover, his wife, his cherished heart in their bed, her breath coming out in ragged gasps as that sheen of sweat continues to coat her face and forehead, a sharp pain present in her chocolate brown eyes.
“Sanji! Boy, are we glad to see you!” Chopper shouts, relief flooding the reindeer doctor’s face.
“Nami’s already progressed so fast for it to be her first baby. She’s already at five centimeters,” Law reveals, determination set on his face. “You’re just about halfway there, Nami. Keep going,” the Surgeon of Death praises, monitoring Nami’s progress and doing his best to control her pain in the process.
“My brave, beautiful Nami,” Sanji practically coos, appearing at Nami’s side and tenderly stroking Nami’s cheek with one of his hands. “You just couldn’t wait to make your appearance could you, little dumpling? You had to make Daddy think he was going to miss the entire thing,” the blonde cook whispers, his hand protectively cupping the bottom of Nami’s belly. “You are so strong, darling,” he softly says in Nami’s ear, kissing her sweat-soaked forehead with all the gentle care in the world. “I am in awe of your strength,” Sanji continues to praise his wife and the soon-to-be mother of his child as he kneels beside their bed, unsure of where he can position himself where he is not in the way of Nami, Chopper, or Law.
“Comfort her, Sanji,” comes Robin’s voice above the din of conversation between Law and Chopper about Nami’s progress. “You’re all she’s been asking for,” the archaeologist smiles widely, conjuring a hand to help pull Sanji to his feet.
“Sanji—” Nami sobs out, fear overtaking her voice as she can’t see where Sanji has gone once he stands up. “Don’t leave me. I—I can’t do this without you. Darling, I’m scared,” the navigator reveals, the fear mixing with pain as another extremely strong contraction ripples through her body, causing her to scream.
It is not lost on Sanji that those three words are the same ones he uttered when Nami first revealed to him that she was pregnant with his child on his birthday nearly eight months ago.
“I’m not going anywhere, love,” Sanji reassures, climbing into bed behind Nami and spreading his legs wide. “I’m right here with you, Nami. I’m not leaving your side, my darling,” he promises, pulling Nami into the space between his legs, her back pressing firmly against his chest and inner thighs as he practically hugs her to his own body, intertwining their hands together as he offers them a firm, loving squeeze.
“Sanji, I don’t know that I can do this,” Nami sobs, her tangerine colored hair sticking to her face and her body shuddering with near exhaustion.
“Yes, you can. You’re the strongest woman I know, Nami-swan. And just think! At the end of this all, you’ll have our stunningly beautiful baby girl or our absolutely handsome baby boy in your arms,” Sanji reminds, his heart race like the Puffing Tom sea train at the thought of finally being able to meet the baby that has grown inside Nami for these past nine months. “You can do this. You’re getting closer by the minute. Just keep going.”
He leans over the top of Nami’s back, placing a short, tender kiss to his wife’s lips, wanting to encourage her without distracting her from the situation at hand.
The remaining members of the crew pace the deck with a ferocity of a restless army once they arrive back on the Thousand Sunny. Brook has made everyone tea, hoping that the drinks will help take everyone’s mind off the hours that slowly crawl by in anticipation for the baby’s arrival into the world. Zoro, true to his form, is napping underneath the mast, the exhaustion from the day’s events weighing heavily on his body. Luffy and Usopp chat animatedly about whether they think the baby will be a boy or a girl, with Usopp insisting that it must be a boy due to how big Nami grew throughout her pregnancy whereas Luffy will not back down that the baby is a girl because Nami grew prettier throughout her pregnancy, and it wouldn’t make sense for a boy to be pretty. Franky and Jinbei talk amongst themselves as to how much longer they believe it will be before the baby makes his or her arrival. Robin remains inside Sanji and Nami’s room with the expectant parents, Chopper, and Law. Ever the impatient one, Luffy has taken to placing his ear against the closed door, hoping to hear for any updates making their way through the wood frame.
“Okay, Nami-san, it’s time to push!” comes Trafalgar Law’s booming voice, and Luffy nearly collapses with excitement.
“I think it’s almost time!” the young King of the Pirates smiles widely, his grin so infectious that the rest of the crew can’t help but smile along. “Jinbei, what’s pushing got to do with anything, though? What is there to push?” Luffy inquires, causing Usopp to facepalm himself nearly immediately.
Jinbei takes his time explaining to Luffy just what exactly pushing refers to and why it is one of the most important steps of the entire process of childbirth. Luffy, to his credit, is more amazed and less disgusted than everyone else would have guessed, and they’re all shocked by their captain’s sudden streak of maturity.
“It’s a girl!” Chopper and Law call out in unison as the cries of a newborn baby flood the room, causing both Sanji and Nami to burst into tears.
“A girl?” Nami happily sighs, her head falling back to rest against Sanji’s chest as the cook and new father runs his hand through Nami’s hair while peppering every square inch of her face in kisses. “We have a baby girl!” she cheers with as much strength as she can muster, leaning into Sanji’s touch.
“You’re officially a Mommy, Nami! A girl, that’s….” Sanji excitedly begins, his eyes brimming with tears as he catches the first sight of his daughter as they place the mewling infant on her mother’s chest, Chopper stimulating and drying her with towels as he does so. “Nami, she’s gorgeous!” Sanji coos, the tears falling onto his cheeks as he lovingly gazes at Nami trying her hardest to collect their tiny newborn baby into her arms. “She looks so much like you, my love,” the chef practically gushes with affection, noting the carbon copy peach fuzz of orange hair that the newborn sports at the top of her head.
“She’s got your eyes,” Nami reveals, the baby opening her eyes for the first time to reveal the most beautiful crystal blue eyes that the navigator and the cook have ever seen. “Oh, Sanji, I’m in love with her,” the navigator breathlessly laughs, pressing kisses to the top of her daughter’s head.
“Oh, my darling girl, Daddy loves you so very much and will do everything in this world to protect you forever and ever,” Sanji whispers to his daughter, a shaky gasp exiting his lips as their daughter grasps Sanji’s pinky finger in the entirety of her tiny hand. “I promise to be the best father I can be to you. You’ll never live a single day on this earth without knowing how loved you are, my angel,” he continues, resting one of his large hands tenderly on the top of their daughter’s head.
“Sanji, would you like to cut the cord?” comes Chopper’s voice as he finishes clamping off the umbilical cord, showing Sanji exactly where to make the cut.
At a loss for words, Sanji nods ecstatically, his heart swelling with pride at the sight of his gorgeous wife settling their beyond beautiful daughter onto her breast to eat for the first time, the thrum of his heart nearly drowning out any other sound in the room.
Less than fifteen minutes later, Nami instantly becomes more uncomfortable and agitated, groans and grunts of discomfort exiting her lips.
“Chopper, I have to push again!” Nami suddenly shouts out, bearing down as she passes their orange-haired daughter into Sanji’s arms, one of the cook’s seemingly massive hands coming to delicately cradle the newborn’s head and back as he presses the baby as close to his chest as physically possible.
“Nami?” Sanji inquires in concern, not quite sure what is happening.
“You shouldn’t have to, Nami! You’ve already delivered the afterbirth, and--- Law?” Chopper trails off, noticing the Surgeon of Death getting back into the same position he assumed less than half an hour ago when the daughter of Sanji and Nami first made her appearance.
“Congratulations, Nami and Sanji! You’re having twins,” the raven-haired doctor smiles, preparing to help Nami deliver the second baby into the world.
“Twins?” Nami gasps out as Sanji hands their firstborn back to her, the chef’s hands trembling as he does so.
“Tw—Twins?” Sanji echoes the shock before he falls to the floor, completely fainting at the mention of there being a second baby they knew nothing about for nine months.
“Sanji!” Nami shouts out, concern for her husband overtaking her voice.
“Don’t worry about him, Nami. I’ll handle him. You focus your energy on that second baby,” Robin calls, using her conjured Flower Flower hands to wake the chef up and place him in the chair at Nami’s bedside.
The second twin is also a beautiful baby girl, this one with bright blonde hair and the chocolate eyes of her mother.
“Good thing we couldn’t decide on just one girl’s name, then, isn’t it?” Nami beams down at her two daughters as they suckle from her breasts, one of her hands on each of their backs.
“I suppose it is. I’m so damn proud of you, love,” Sanji says in earnest, pressing a passionate kiss to his wife’s lips as he takes in the sight of his wife and two girls, a purer sight never seen before by the chef in question. “Two beautiful, healthy little girls. No wonder you were running out of room in there towards the end,” he cracks a smile at his own joke, earning him a slight slap on the arm from his wife.
“Join me?” Nami requests, exhaustion overtaking her voice as she pats a space on the bed next to her.
Sanji acquiesces immediately, sitting next to his wife and the mother of his children. He eagerly reaches his hands out and Nami hands him their oldest daughter, the fiery headed one of the two.
“Hello, little Belle,” he whispers to his daughter, snuggling her close to his chest and inhaling the succulent smell of newborn mixed with the milk scent both babies received after Nami fed them. “You’re going to grow up to be just as beautiful as your mother,” Sanji softly says, tracing his index finger over Belle’s little cheek, his hearting soaring as he looks over and finds Nami doing the same thing with the younger twin.
“Sora, you’ll be just as charming as your father with this blonde hair of yours,” Nami gently says to their youngest daughter, dropping a kiss to the newborn’s head. “What did I tell you, Sanji? You’re already an amazing father,” she assures, causing the tears to begin to flow down Sanji’s face anew.
The tears won’t stop flowing from Sanji’s light blue eyes at one of the highest compliments he will ever be able to receive in this lifetime.
“You’ve survived the first night of parenthood,” Robin gently remarks, noting the clock on the wall changing to 12:01 AM. “I think the four of you have earned some much-deserved sleep. I’ll alert the rest of the crew that they can meet the new additions in the morning.”
