Summary:

Yosuke thinking about how there's so little time before his partner leaves Inaba.

Notes:

This is my first fanfic, new to all this. If there's any spelling/formatting/other types of errors or tags I should've added please let me know so I can fix them.

Work Text:

Yosuke couldn’t sleep. Tomorrow would be March 1st. Yu was leaving in three weeks, heading back to the city. Yosuke had known that Yu would only be in Inaba for a year since they met, but as they got closer to his departure, he couldn’t help but wonder why things had to turn out like this. Why should Yu go back when his friends and relatives that he was close to were all in Inaba?

The year had gone by faster than he’d expected. Between school, working at Junes, and trying to catch a serial killer, he just didn’t have as much free time as he would have liked for most of the year. And now he was almost out of time to spend with his partner. Sure they’d call and text each other, and Yu said he would visit as much as he could, but it just wasn’t the same.

He had to make these last three weeks matter. He wanted to spend as much time with Yu, his partner, before those three weeks were up. In the morning he’d ask Yu if he wanted to hang out by the floodplain. He knew Yu went there often, and it was a special place for them. They had their fistfight there, and Yu had hugged him there. Sure he called him a dumbass and said that was for girls, but he really did appreciate that.

Maybe he should apologize for calling his partner a dumbass back then too. That one hug helped Yosuke realize just how much he did care about his partner, even if it took a while to figure his feelings out. With Yu leaving so soon, he had trouble deciding if he should even bother telling his partner that he liked him. Tomorrow might be a good time, if Yu rejected him he would probably still want to be friends. And if his partner actually reciprocated, they’d have three weeks together, maybe even more if Yu was willing to try and make a long distance relationship work. It was worth a shot, to make these last few moments matter.
