Work Text:
"Stupid camp, stupid job."
Emily was kicking the dirt around her; she was so upset about having to work this job that was slowly making her unhappy the more she stayed. Trevor kept her company, but even he was too busy kissing Derek's ass to remember his friendship with her.
She felt so upset with herself that she didn't hear the faint sobbing coming from outside the campsite. This gave her an idea to spy and get some juicy drama for the show, but soon she saw who it was:
Jake? The gullible and easy-to-manipulate contestant from the Magenta team was crying his eyes out and trying to catch his own breath. She felt somewhat bad seeing him out here alone. It was never Emily's place nor business to care about really anyone from this camp, but she couldn't help but feel pity. Jake kind of reminded her of Trevor.
"hello Magenta member Jake."
Jake felt himself jump up from his spot in surprise, tears still running down his face as he faced Emily, who soon realized that the man really was crying his small eyes out.
"Emily?, I'm so sorry. Did I wake you? Fuck,.. I didn't mean to."
Emily shook her head.
"Not at all, Jake? Am I right? I was already out here a bit upset myself."
Jake nodded at her small question about his name. Emily gave him a soft smile that felt genuine in his eyes. She walked a bit towards him, and he scooted over a bit for her.
"I'm not the one to really care about the camper's feelings, but what's going on?"
Jake was taken aback by what she said. He looked at her hesitantly, not being about to believe what she was saying.
"Why? So you can use it against me?"
Emily felt a bit sad by what Jake had said; he did have no real reason to trust her, but she did feel bad for the blue-haired man; she saw how he was treated by Tom and the others. She sort of saw a bit of herself in him.
"I don't blame you for being hesitant around me, but I won't. Do anything."
Jake gave her one last look before signing. It felt nice that someone was talking to him; even if it was Emily, the lady was still weirdly comforting.
"I'm sorry for being rude, Emily; I'm just... so fucking tired of being here."
Emily could only give the same sigh.
"Tell me about it; this place stinks, doesn't it?"
Jake couldn't help but laugh a bit. He was glad someone else felt the same about being at this shitty camp. He laid his head on his arms as he was still looking at her, his eyes still red from crying.
"Is that why you were upset? you mad About being here?"
Emily only nodded, crossing her arms. She could only pray that the show would either get cancelled or end soon, but with how much money Kristal was making, that definitely wasn't happening.
"Why were you crying?"
She sounded so soft that Jake felt bad that she even had to ask; he didn't want to bother her like he was with Ashley about his stupid mood swings and constant outlashes.
"It's nothing important; I'm just being a fucking idiot like always. Wouldn't be surprised if I was next."
Emily looked at him with sadness. Jake really was someone who just wanted someone to stay around; she soon gave him a stern look.
"I wouldn't cry about someone like Tom; trust me when I say Jake, there are way hotter guys who want you."
Jake could only laugh at what she said; it had taken him off guard, but it felt nice hearing someone say that, even if it was from Emily.
"Thank you, Emily, but I wish it was easy to forget someone like him. I bet he's happier off without me. I can't blame him for ghosting me."
Emily gave him another look that said, "You better be joking." From all she's learned of Tom, the man was still head over heels for the blueberry in front of her, yet why wasn't he saying anything?
"You both remind me of Derek and Trevor. You being well. Trevor in this case. Like I told Trevor though, you shouldn't be spilling tears for men who clearly don't deserve you."
Jake took what she said to a surprise; he wasn't expecting this type of advice (?) From Emily, especially not from her, he gave her a soft look and only nodded; what she said fell heavy on Jake's soft heart.
"You really care for Trevor, huh?"
Emily hesitated but nodded. Trevor was the only real kind one to her on this godforsaking camp, but now that she realized how much of a nice dude Jake was, even if their conversation hasn't been for long.
"It's nice that someone cares about him; what happened during the musical challenge wasn't fair to him."
Emily only nodded again. Surprisingly, the new duo had kept talking about feelings and how it was okay to let them out once in a while, sharing laughs and some tears (mostly from Jake). Emily would be lying if she said that she didn't have a nice time talking to Jake.
Once the sun started shining above the water, Jake felt himself jump up in panic.
"Oh sh*t, Ashley is going to worry about me not being at the camp, thanks for... Listening to me, Emily, you're a good person, and I'm glad I got to see it."
Emily felt a smile on herself. She gave Jake a wave as he ran off back to his camp. Emily waited a bit before walking back to her small little sleeping area to see Trevor snoring in his sleeping bag.
"I see why Jake is your favorite Trevor; he seems like a sweet kid."
Emily muttered so Trevor didn't get the chance to wake up from it. She laid down in her sleeping bag and sighed, placing her face into her pillow as her eyes were starting to fill up with tears. She felt herself sob into her pillow, not understanding why her tears started to fall now while someone she saw as a friend was sleeping in the same room.
The day was starting, but the night felt like it was just the beginning for her own heavy mindset for the place she called work.
