Chapter 1: a fresh start

Chapter Text

After 14 years they finally finished it. The portal to the demon realm after much trial and error had finally been completed. This was their way to find Luz and bring her home

Camila could hardly believe how long it had been. It feels like yesterday that she had last seen Luz disappear in the flouting light on what she considered one of the worst days of her life. The day that she yelled at her and effectively disowned her. And for what because she couldn't tolerate her own daughter learning some magic. In truth, it felt like she had been pushing her away long before that. The things she said to her that day and before she sent her to reality check camp have haunted her to this very day. She had made the same mistakes that her parents did and vowed not to make when raising Luz. She vowed to make it up to her daughter in any way possible. Once she got home she would make it better and Her, Luz, and Vee could be a family.

So she waited but grew restless and paranoid after four years of waiting. She knew Luz might take a while to make a working portal door. After all, it took her a few months to get as far as appearing in reflections of glass surfaces. So who knows how long it would take for a functional portal to be completed? Still, she couldn't help but fear the worst as who knows what could have happened. This gave her more gray hairs than she should have at her age. Then an idea struck her. what if she built her own portal?

At first, it was difficult all she had to go on was Vee's own knowledge of the subject (which was very limited) and what she could find on the internet, in the library, and, in the notes of that wackjob lunatic who had kidnapped Vee (that last one was hard to decipher from fact and the insane theories). At first, she did a lot of the experimenting alone as Vee was off to college. But after graduating she came back with her significant other to help out. Despite the extra help the work on the project was slow and was met with a lot of failures. That is until a month ago after Marsha had found a vile of blue liquid in the graveyard. Vee immediately recognized it as Titian's blood a powerful score of magic that long ago was capable of allowing people to cross from the human realm to the demon realm and vice versa.

This finally allowed them to finish the portal. Now here they were standing in front of the culmination of six (10 for Camila) years of hard work. Camila was hit with a wave of emotions as she felt relief, guilt, hope, and joy all at once. Now that she was here she was unsure what was next. It had been fourteen years since she had last seen her daughter. She would be about twenty-eight by now. She had missed so much in that time. Her first date, her quinceañera, and who knows what else she had missed. Would she recognize her? Would she still be alive? All of these questions and more that she had longed barred had resurfaced causing her to spiral. Before she could spiral even further a hand grabbed her shoulder.

"Mom are you ok" Vee asked as she looked with concern at her adopted mother

"I'm...I'm fine mija" Camila managed to stammer out "It's just been so long what do I even say to her"

"speak from the heart and say what you mean to say" Marsha spoke up

Camila looked at her daughter and her partner and asked "Are you sure you want to come? I would understand if you both chose to stay here"

Vee spoke up "Mom you need someone who can guide you through the boiling isles plus I want Luz back home too"

"And besides I get to see where my amazing girlfriend comes from" they teased suggestively as she held said girlfriend close to her as Vee blushed.

Smiling Camila took a deep breath and exhaled as she took her first step toward the demon realm.

------
As Camila, Vee, and Marsha walked around town (Bonesbrough Vee had called it) trying to get a sense of where Luz might be Camila was struggling to wrap her head around the demon realm. First off this entire time, Luz had been living on a carcass that most of the residents considered and worshiped as a god(Marsha was impressed and called it gnarly). Fairies were real and ate people's skin. The buildings had eyes and arms that occasionally snatched dragons out of the air. on top of all of this, It turns out that her daughter had been right that Griffins had spider breath(she was never going to live that down).

To say that she was overwhelmed by it all would be an understatement. Still, for her daughter's sack, she pressed on and began strategies on where to start looking for her daughter. She looked around to see who to ask first. She chose a girl who was listening to music with her headphones on while reading a book. The girl looked to be about 10, had brown skin, a mane of long light green hair, was wearing jeans that were torn at the knees, and a t-shirt with what looked to be a frog of some type. Walking over to her she lightly tapped her on the shoulder to get her attention.

"Excuse me miss I'm looking for someone and was hop...." the words died in her mouth as she got a better look at her hair as the young girl that sat before her removed her headphones. Or more accurately what was in her hair. Thair was a giant bright red centipede crawling out of her hair. It looked to be about 2 feet long, although she couldn't get a good look at the entire length as it was still partly inside her hair. Judging by Vee's expression she had to assume that this was not normal behavior for the isles. How the child didn't notice the creature was beyond her, especially with all the clicking noise that it was making.

"Is something wrong mam," the girl asked politely

"N..no" Camila stammered quickly as the other two in her grope still stared in shock "It's just you seem to have something coming out of your hair"

"Oh that" the preteen chuckled "That's just Stacy checking you guys out"

"You do realize that is Red Deathipeda right!" Vee exclaimed

"Stacy" began to hiss as she began to rise higher.

"Hay no need to yell you're scaring her" the girl whispered as she reached up and began to pet her, calming her down as she cooed and whistled

Choosing to get back to the topic at hand "lest start over my name is Camila Noceda, this is my daughter Vee and her partner Marsha what your sweety"

"Oh, my name is..." Before she could finish she was interrupted by a voice that came from behind Camila

"Azura who are you talking to?" stunned for a moment Camila dared to hope as she slowly tried around. She was now faced with a young woman who was standing a few feet in front of her, who was now staring at her with shock. There was no doubt in Camila's mind of who this was. She was a lot taller than she had last seen her. She was more muscular and had a scar on her left eyebrow. But for her, there was no mistaking her hazel eyes and her short curly hair. After all these years she had finally found her daughter.

"Azura could you come here for a second" Luz said in a nervous tone

"Coming Mamá" Azrua answered as Camila realized two things. one She was an abuela, she thought excitedly. And two, she realized as her heart wrenched she had missed a lot more than she had thought.

Chapter Text

After a few moments to get over the shock, Luz began to gather herself as she assessed the situation. Camila was standing before her with Vee and another person she didn't know (she vaguely recalled them as a friend that Vee made at camp). Camila looked older with a few more wrinkles, and her hair was mostly gray now. She wore a red sweater and blue jeans. Somehow, against all odds, she was here in the demon realm. To make matters even more complicated, she was talking to her daughter. She would have to explain the situation earlier than she would have liked.

"You can get through this," she thought to herself. She beat Belos, befriended the collector, faced everything the isles threw at her, and has been raising her daughter for the past 10 years. Plus she had her mom, brother, wife, Hunter, Willow, Gus, Aunt Lilith, Hooty, and everyone else's love and support. She just had to be firm and direct. She first needed to go home and find a way to explain all of this to Azura.

"Mija, let's go home," she said quickly.

"Ok, mama," her daughter said in a confused tone.

As she handed the groceries she was carrying to Azura, Stringbean transformed into her staff mode.

"Mija, wait!" she heard Camila shout.

"Mama, who is that lady, and why is she calling you her daughter?" Azura asked quietly.

Luz froze at that question. As much as she wanted to answer her daughter's questions at home with her wife to support her, she knew that she had to find a way to explain all of this to her. But before she could find a good way to explain this situation, Camila walked up and said, "Hola, es un placer conocerte, soy tu abuela," speaking with a kind tone with her hand stretched out.

As Luz placed her hand to her face and let out a sigh of frustration, Azura looked at the older woman in confusion and tilted her head.

"No, you're not. My Abuela is Eda Clawthorn," at that, Camila's eyes widened with shock as her hand fell to the side. She looked at Luz and asked, "Luz, did you not tell her about me?"

"Mama, what's going on? Why is this lady saying she's my grandma?" Azura asked in a confused tone.

After letting out a deep breath, Luz turned to face her daughter and answered, "Only in the biological sense."

Azura stared at her in shock and confusion. Luz felt guilty for not telling her the truth sooner.

Luz kneeled to her daughter's level and spoke to her calmly, "I know that this is a lot and that you have many questions that I do plan on answering, but can we wait until we get home, please? I want to talk about this with your mother there."

After thinking about it for a bit and petting Stacy to calm her nerves, Azura shook her head yes. But before getting on the staff, she asked, "Can they come too? I want to hear their side of the story."

At that, Luz scowled for a moment before getting out a piece of paper and pen and writing something on it. She then shoved it into Camila's hands and bitterly said, "This is our address. Come and don't throw out more family."

With that, the mother-and-daughter duo hopped onto the staff and flew off toward home, leaving the trio of visitors standing, contemplating their new situation.

Chapter 3: a past told

Summary:

azura learns a bit about her mama's past

Chapter Text

As Luz and Azura flew home Luz had just texted her wife the whole situation while dozens of questions raced through her daughter's mind. That woman at the market was her ablua? Why did Mama never mention her? Who were the other two people that were with her? Her tia and titi maybe? The younger woman ( Vee if she recalled correctly) did share some resemblance to her mama. However, her eyes were off. With the older women, the more she thought about it was related to her mother. But all of this begged the question of why no one had told her the truth beforehand and where they going to tell ever her. She was so confused it felt like her head was going to explode.

As they got closer to home she noticed her mom sitting on the porch waiting for them to come home. When they landed she went inside while her parents talked for a bit. From the little bit she heard her mama was panicking while her mom was trying to calm her down. It was hard to understand especially because of how fast Mama was speaking. She waited in the living room for her parents to finally explain what was going on. The wait was agonizing as a few minutes felt like hours. As she waited she paced back and forth in the living room and began to mutter to herself. As she did this several of her pets noticed this as a sign that she was stressed so one of them, a bat named Dusk flew down and landed on her shoulder and nuzzled up against her cheek while Stacy let out a low southing chirps to calm her down.

Her parents soon came into the room and sat on the couch. Azura took hers on an adjacent chair. The silence that filled the room was defining and remained there for several minutes. She noticed her mama’s eyes were slightly red and tears were coming out After taking a deep breath her mama finally spoke.

“I guess I should start from the beginning” she spoke with a raspy voice as if her throat had been sore. “When I was 14 I was sent to a behavioral correction camp for the summer after several of my backup snakes got out and they discovered my fireworks.

Azura stared at her in disbelief. Before she could say anything her mama bet her to her question. “I know I know it wasn't the best idea”

“Anyways the camp's purpose was to curb my more unusual tendencies and make me more acceptable to society. I begged not to go but Camila insisted I go because this would be the best way to make friends. Before I could get there Owlbert took my book so I followed him into the demon realm where I…”

“Wait Mama were you from the human realm?” Azura asked in surprise

Silence filled the room for a moment before her mother asked in a confused tone “Sweetharet what did you think your mama was?”

“A magicless witch like Ablula, Tia Lilith, and Uncle Hunter until the titan granted you magic” Azura answered, “...right?”

Her parents stared at her before her mama answered “No I’m a..was a human. Anyway as I was saying before I met your Aublua and your teo King and decided to stay for the summer so I could learn how to be a witch. During that time I learned a new way of doing magic, made friends, became part of a found family, and met the love of my life” At that she looked at her mother with all the love and adoration in the world and held her hand tightly while her mother gave a peck on the cheek.

“And most importantly” her mama added “I found a place where I belonged but then the whole situation with Eda being captured happened and by the end of it I had to make a new portal which did take a while. By the time I was able to make one, it only took me to the in-between realm where I could only communicate through glass and mirror surfaces. When Camila found out she frecked and tried to get me to choose between her and the demon realm…and when I told her couldn't choose…” After pushing her wife took her hand and held it thigh. This allowed her to take a deep breath and continue telling the most difficult part. “She told me to never come back.”

Auzura stared at her in shock and horror. How could Camila have said that to her own daughter? Sure she knows kids and their parents argue with their parents from time to time. Heck, even she has done so with her own parents, but never once did they threaten to kick her out of the family. They talked to each other and tried to understand each other's position. She looked at her mama with sadness and pity as she asked her next question “Why didn’t you tell me this before mama?”

“We wanted to wait until you were older plus I didn’t want you to worry about me that's my job” her mama answered with tears in her eyes as her mom held her close. At that, she hugged her mama tight around the waist. “Well too bad we’re family it’s our job to worry about each other,” she said with Stacy punctuating the statement by curling up against her mama’s cheek.

At this, her mama held her thigh as she gave her daughter a thankful smile. As she hugged her tighter azure began to think back to her meeting with Camila. She seemed nice if a little started by Stacy which might be concerning to some people. Maybe she had mellowed out over the years. Pluse the was the matter of her getting to the demon realm. This a task that is very difficult for the demon realm inhabits where most of the material is easy to find let alone for someone living in the human realm. Maybe she wants to make amends with her mama. At first, her invitation was a way for her to get the full story of what was going on but now it might serve as an opportunity to help her mama.

Chapter 5: Moving forward

Notes:

So very sorry about the delay I did not expect to take this long to get this chapter finished but I have completed and I hope you all will enjoy it

Chapter Text

It was around noon when Camila and her group arrived at the address that she was given. Despite Vee’s and Marsha's attempts to reassure her, she had been silent the entire trip there. She replayed the encounter with her daughter and granddaughter the whole way there. Not only did her daughter take what she said seriously to the point of not even considering her mother anymore but she never even mentioned her to her granddaughter. The worst part is that she doesn’t blame her daughter. How could she have been so stupid to think that her daughter wouldn’t take what she said seriously?

What was she supposed to do now? She had a vague idea of a plan beforehand on what to do when she reunited with her daughter. Not many details were hashed out but she did have a few ideas on what to say to her little light, mostly how sorry she was for everything she said. But now what was she going to do? Would apologizing be enough? And what about her granddaughter? She must be so confused right now.

All she could do is apologize for everything and hope for the best. As she walked up to the house she took in the sight of it. It was a two story cottage with a large circular window in the middle of it. It had a warm and cozy air to it. The walls were covered with painted pictures as if it was a massive canvas. The windows were clearly stained glass. There was also a tower-like structure jetting out of the side of the cottage. She also noticed a small barn-like structure that was close by.

As she walked up the steps of the porch to the door
She hesitated for a moment before turning to her daughter and future child-in-law. After seeing their reassuring smiles she turned around and knocked on the door. The person who answered the door was not her daughter or granddaughter but another woman. She looked to be about Luz’s age, had a bit of a curvy figure to her and stood a foot taller than her. She had long hair that was dyed lavender and tied up into a ponytail. She wore a dark gray shirt, a pair of purple pants, black boots, and some work gloves. The most striking thing about her appearance was the pair of golden eyes that made her feel like they were bearing directly into her soul.

After a few moments of silence she asked in a restrained tone “Camila Noceda I presume”

“Yes,” Camila replied Nervously after a few moments of silence “a-and you are?”

“Amity Clawthorn, Luz’s wife” she replied in a seethingly calm tone

….

…..

“May we come inside?”

Amity’s only reply was a short nod before moving out of the way to let them in while still giving them a hard glare. They all walked inside and found Luz sitting in a chair waiting for them with an unreadable expression. Azura on the other hand was silently observing and waved hello to them. Afterward everyone took their seats and a long uncomfortable silence filled the room. After a few minutes of continual silence Azura was the first to speak up

“So what brings you here” she asked

Camila steeled herself and tried to find a way to say everything that she wanted to say to her daughter. How sorry she was for not speaking up for her when it mattered, for dismissing her feelings, for trying to make her choose between her and the place that she felt loved, and most of all for disowning her for not choosing immediately. She wanted to start over again with her daughter and Build a better relationship with her. Maybe get to know her new daughter in law and granddaughter better ( she would still have to get used to the fact that she was an ablua now.) But based on the way Luz was glaring at her that might not be the best idea right now.

Maybe it would be best to start simple. “I just wanted to make sure that nothing bad happened to you, Luz” Camila replied

“ You mean besides the fact that the woman who was supposedly my mother disowned me for not wanting to make crappy promises under duress” Luz practically growled out. That one had hurt but Camila knew she deserved that. “Other than that I’m doing great” Luz abruptly added in a sugary sweet faux tone.

“So what do you do two for a living?” Marsha suddenly asked.

“Oh I am the assistant curator at the supernatural museum of history and do volunteer work at the bonesbough library” Amity replied politely

“And I work as professor in the university of wild magic and a part time writer” Luz said respectfully

“Oh that sounds lovely” Camilla said sincerely

Luz and Amity ignored her “I could ask you the same question…” Luz asked

“Marsha, Mx Marsha Havenbrook” Marsha introduced themselves

Camila turned to Azura and asked her “and where do you go to school pequeno”

“I go to Hexside and I just started fifth grade” Azura replied happily “ my favorite part is learning a lot about different animals that live on the isles, like last week we learned about the Amphisbaena and how even if you cut them in half they will just stitch themselves back together and move on like nothing happened”

“Oh that’s interesting” Camila replied supportively. In spite of her desire to listen to her granddaughter talk more about her school she knew she would have to find a good way for her to talk to her own daughter. Although talking to her on her own may not be the best idea given the way that she was glaring at her in spite of her own conversation with Marsha and Vee. She could swear that she saw her pupils slit like a cat. Before she had time to think of a proper apology she heard from the front door what sounded like wings flapping followed by heavy footsteps that sounded like they were heading towards the front door. Then she heard a voice screaming “WHERE IS THAT BITCH!!!!” Before the door slammed open.

Chapter 6: Ill start

Notes:

Sorry for the delay I had a lot going on but I finally got to a place where I was satisfied with what I’ve done
So enjoy

Chapter Text

So to recap vees day she, her mother, and her partner went into the isles with the expectation of bringing Luz back home only to find out that she had no intention of returning home and was still holding onto a grudge on their mom to the point that she had never told her own daughter about her abuela. Not to mention she was getting a weird smell from her. Almost as if she had pure undiluted magic. On top of all that now she was trying to stop a literal mad harpy woman with a hook for a hand who also happens to also be the owl lady from Murdering her mom along with Luz , Amity, and another witch whose name might have been Raine based on all of the yelling.

“Eda put her down!”

“No this bitch needs her throat ripped out!!”

“That’s not going to help anyone, especially me!”

“Yes, just go to your happy place!”

“I am in my happy place”

This entire exchange had been happening for about the last 15 minutes or so. Despite everyone’s ( including a new person with dark skin and teal hair who she had never met before) efforts the infamous owl lady still held her mother in a death grip with one hand while threatening to stab her with her hook hand.

Finally the stalemate was broken when Azure with a loud voice spoke up shouting “WOULD EVERYONE PLEASE SHUT UP!!! FOR TITANS SAKE YOU ARE NOT GOING AWAY WHERE WITH THIS STUPIDITY!!!!”

Further emphasizing her point the red deathipede (Stacy) that lives in her hair shot out, making itself look as tall as possible and began hissing and clicking its mandibles in annoyance. It was not alone in this endeavor as several snakes also bust out of her hair hissing as well. She couldn’t tell what type they were but judging by their bright coloration she could tell that they were highly venomous. In addition bats were flying around screeching their heads off, the fireplace ,wiche had fire bees with in it began to explode in blue flames, she could hear various sounds of other animals coming up stairs and from the barn, and she could have sworn that she saw a pair of pincers snapping from under the couch.

After a few seconds of blank staring everyone calmed down. They, thankfully, could let go of the owl lady who hopefully was no longer in the mood for Muder.

“Good” Azura replied “Now that’s over Ablia what are you doing here?”

“Well” the owl lady replied “I got a tip from a reliable source (“she means from a drinking buddy” Rain chimed in) that there was a portal door that was open and so we went to check it out so we cou”

“Makes sure it went to a place where you could make a quick buck” Amity replied without missing a beet

“Yep” eda smiled without a hint of shame “anyhow once I realized that it led to Gravesfields, grabbed the portal and after asking around I rushed over to make sure everyone was safe.

“Uhh”

“Everyone I give a…” Eda glanced towards Luz and Amity who were giving her the universal look that said there are children present “never mind”

“Now” Azura looked towards Camila before politely asking “Mrs Camila I believe that you have something that you want to say to my mama”

At this her mother stepped forward to Luz and after a brief moment found the words that she wanted to say to her daughter after more than a decade.

“Mija I know that what I said hurt you and you have a right to be angry with me but I want you to know that I am so sorry for what I said and I want us to start over again please”

The tense silence followed with no one speaking and the only sound that was made was the occasional scurry noise that Vee couldn’t quite place. Luz just stood there with an unreadable expression. This lasted for several minutes before she responded.

“Well if that’s all you have to say it’s about time for you all to go home” as she was saying this she was pushing them out the door and grabbed the portal door. Before they could even get in a word out in protest Azure spoke up

“Wait” she said quickly “I uhh… haven’t even got to show them my pets yet”

“Mija” Luz replied tiredly “I’m not sure if any of them wouldn’t get fre…” Luz had paused as if to think it over. Vee could swear that she saw a little smirk peaked when she said “I’m sure that Camila would love to meet your pets”

At that Azura squealed in delight as went over to the couch and went to pull something out. After a few seconds she pulled out a two foot long scorpion with a bright orange exoskeleton and a bright red stinger.

“This is burtrum” Azura introduced the scorpion “say hi to everyone burtrum”

“Burtrum” for his part only clicked its right pincers while staring at them with its beady black eyes. Vee had to give her mother this. She was taking this a lot better than most would. Oh sure, on the inside she was most likely screaming. But she never showed it. Hopefully things won't get worse.

Chapter 7: Light panic

Chapter Text

Camila was using all of her energy and parenting skills to not scream in horror every time Azura brought out one of her pets. In addition to Bertram and Stacy there were various snakes, a few that lived in her granddaughter's hair. They included Ishtar, Ally, Cleopatra, Jafar, Draco, Pandora, Kaa, and Fang. They came in a variety of colors and patterns ranging from simple browns and grays to vibrant reds and blues. Their sizes ranged from a respectable three feet to fifteen feet. Most were of the venomous variety except for Kaa who was a constrictor and Jafar had the unique ability to hypnotize people.

After that came the bats. There were more of them than could be named. A few of the individuals that were introduced were Dusk, Zephyr, Tempest, Night wing, Twilight, Noctum, Specter, Skydancer, Echo, Blade, and so many more. Camila did admit that for the most part the smaller ones were adorable especially when they nuzzled up to her cheeks. The bigger ones on the other hand she was a bit more cautious of. Especially because they were about the size of horses.

Another critter that lived there was Scrooge. Azura said that he was a mimic, a crab-like demon that used common objects as his shell such as treasure chests, crates, cabinets, and urns. He currently uses a medium sized chest as his shell and as she quickly found out was a cheeky stinker who had a bit of sticky fingers when it came to shiny objects. They found out the hard way when he lunged towards Marsha trying to grab their bracelet. She also noticed that Eda was glaring at him like he had insulted her family honor or stole her kid.

Up next were what were called fire bees. They were like normal bees except for the fact that they are constantly on fire. Most of the time it was a warm orange color but she had seen them earlier burn a bright blue. There was an entire colony living right in the back yard on a tree. For obvious reasons not everyone was introduced but the fire bee queen was pointed out by Azura. She was given the name Queen Sofia and apparently was a long time friend to her granddaughter.

Other creatures and beasts were introduced such as hell hounds, a manticore, a nue (a chimera like beast with the head of a monkey, the body of a raccoon dog, the legs of a tiger, and the tail of a snake.), two cockatrice, a small herd of kiran, a baku, and what looked like a Pegasus except instead of a horse head it had a snakes head.

Lastly were the scorpions. Besides Bertram they were Nero, Brutus, and Clawdina. Their sizes ranged from about 15 to 22 feet long. That was scary enough but the que de grace was King Magnus, a 60 foot long behemoth of a scorpion. Camila could tell from the cracked and withered armor and vegetation growing on him that he had lived for a very long time.

All of this and more made Camila fear for her granddaughter’s safety. While she will admit that she loved Azura’s enthusiasm towards animals and she seemed to know quite a bit about them she was still a child. As a veterinarian she had first hand experience with various animals from dogs and cats to snakes and spiders. She even helped out at the local zoo. From that experience she learned that if you are not careful an animal will hunt you in a variety of different ways. Dogs can bite you, cats will scratch you, snakes will inject you with venom, she had seen coworkers who were not careful enough get kicked and bitten by zebras, and the less said about what chimpanzees would do to a person if ticked off the better.

The point being that those were human realm animals. The animals in the demon realm seemed even more dangerous. Between the various venomous snakes, bees that set themselves on fire, giant scorpions, creatures that spit acid, and giant flying predators. She was one wrong move from getting eaten or worse.

Plus there were the other things she mentioned offhandedly that made her worry more about her safety. First there was the weather which included boiling rain, gorenadoes, knife hail, and painbows. Other hazards included getting hexed, carnivorous plants, people with a vendetta against the owl lady, and something about cults trying to commit atrocities in her name. What ever that means Not sure what that last one was about. What disturbed her the most was how nonchalant she was about it.

At the same time she saw how Azura talked the entire time about them. The way she got excited when showing off their unique attributes and abilities. How she would ramble on and on about their behavior and how she found them. It was in the same manner that Luz did about the Good Witch Azura. She was also attentive and kind to all the creatures. At the same time she could also be stern when she needed to be such as when Scrooge tried to grab Marsha’s bracelet.

At the moment she was showing off King Magnus ( she insisted on always having the king part of his name included ) eating his meal, a big pile of meat. “Fun fact despite their large size death striker scorpions only need to eat about a quarter of their body weight” she said “they will eat just about anything that they can get their claws on, I’ve personally seen one take on a full grown Slitherbeast and win”

“Sick” Marsha replied impressed

“Eh Nieta, are you sure that he's safe to be around?” Camila asked in a worried tone.

“Yeah, why” Azura answered with an innocent expression.

“It’s just that…I work with a lot of animals and from that experience I can tell you that it can be dangerous if you’re not careful with them,” Camila told Azura.

“That’s not a problem with me” Azura said confidently “I can always tell what they’re all thinking”

“Sweetie I know that yo…wait actually can you understand what they’re saying”

“Well, not in the way that you’re thinking of” Azura explained. “It's more like I can understand what kind of mood they’re in. For example King Magnus here is certainly in a relaxed mood”

“And none of the animals here attack people” Vee asked
“Well not…exactly, you see while they all are sweet they can be just a little bit….over protective from time to time” Azura awkwardly confessed

“And just how over protective are we talking?” Camila questioned already dreading where this was going.

“Well……….”

~~~~~~~~
Last week:
A group of young demon teens runs away in terror as multiple creatures chase them with murderous intent.
One of them yells out “why in the hell did you push that kid off the swing set”
“Hey how was I supposed to know that her pets were going to freak out like that” shouted another.
“Shut up you idiots and run!!!!” Their leader shouts.
“….yeah calming them down after that was difficult but I did manage to get them to not kill those guys” Azura finished with a bit of embarrassment.
Camila's worried expression increased “eh…that’s nice…at least”
“So” Vee interrupted, “do you have any friends at school?”
“Oh totally I have quite a few friends ” Azura answered excitedly “my best friend is Astrid. And I have been friends since our days in the baby class together. She’s so cool and kind. She and I always have each other’s backs no matter what”
At that Camila smiled seeing how despite her oddities, her granddaughter was able to make friends. She was still worried for her safety. But at the same time judging from the story that she was told she would have a long line of protectors.
