Chapter Text
Stella is aware that Kelly has been married once before. She didn’t find out directly from him, but instead the gossiping around firehouse 51. Before Shay died, she and Gabby were always the ones behind all the gossip.
Shay’s 10 year death anniversary is coming up soon and Stella can tell that Kelly is struggling although he doesn’t talk about his late best friend. She doesn’t care that he was married before because she too had previously been married. What concerned her was that while he was spiraling the murder of his best friend, he went to vegas and within 24 hours was married to a complete stranger.
His first marriage only lasted around two months. He and Stella have been to gather for seven years and married for five years. Together they created a handsome six year old son, Gabriel Briggs Severide, and their beautiful three year old daughter., Alyani Rose Severide.
Gabriel resembles more of his father than his mom. He’s protective like Kelly and kind like Stella. He loves hanging around the firehouse with the guys. He wants to be a firefighter just like his parents.
Alyani resembles her mother, but has her father’s eyes. Shes fierce and stubborn just like her Stella. She has Kelly’s humor and is always the brightest soul in the room.

While squad was out on a call, a medium height woman walked into the firehouse, seeming to know her way around made her way towards the paramedics who were stocking up the ambo.
“Sylvie?” The blonde paramedic turned her head as she heard her name.
“Um..” she had to think before remembering who was in front of her. “Brittany? What are you doing here?”
“Is Kelly around?” she asked.
”Squad is on a call right now, but i’ll let him know you stopped by, unless you planned on waiting.”
”Okay. I’ll just wait.” she walked over toward a chair still in ear shot of the ambulance.
“Who’s that?” Violet asked her partner.
“Kelly’s best friend was the paramedic before I was here. Her name was Shay. Her, Gabby, and Severide were really close until she died. Kelly started to spiral and he went to Vegas. When he came back, he was married. That was the ex-wife.” The blonde explained before they heard footsteps.
“Vi, Sylvie!” Stella called out as she rounded the corner to the ambo. “Guess what my husband asked me last night.”
“If someone could take the kids so you could finally get some time alone?” Sylvie chuckled at her partners words.
”The opposite sort of. He wants to have another baby.” she was cut off by the sound of her phone ringing.
“Hey, Brianne. Is everything okay? she asked her babysitter.
”My daughter’s doctor just called. Somebody canceled so there was an available spot in an hour. Can I drop Alyani off at the firehouse. I can pick her back up on my way to grab Gabriel from school.” Stella heard through her phone.
”Of course. If we get a call before you get here, you can leave her with Connie.”
”Brianne?” Sylvia asked when the truck lieutenant put her phone in her pocket.
“She has to take Maria to a doctors appointment so she’s dropping Alyani off here.”
Engine 51-Truck 81- Ambulance 61- Battalion 25
Squad 3 needs assistance at 3465 Glenwood Ave.
Stella rushed towards her gear as everyone started emerging from inside the firehouse. She slid her boots on, grabbed her jacket and hopped into the passenger side of the truck.
All of the companies from firehouse 51 started exiting towards the address with lights and sirens blaring.
“What’s going on out here, Kelly?” Kidd asked walking in full gear towards her husband’s squad.
“Car crashed into the house. There was a guy trapped under the car. We were setting up the airbags to extract him. Truck 112 was called to another scene. Minutes later it gets hot and the house is on fire. We made quick work on getting the guy from under the car. I caught a burn, but sent my guys to sweep the top floor.” Secretive quickly responded, using his forearm to wipe his forehead.
“Get that checked out. Your neck must be burning.” She told him before turning towards her team. “Carver and Dawson, clear the first floor. Squad has the upstairs.”
”Copy that lieutenant.” they say in unison.
Cruz exited the last room as Tony was exiting his. He grabbed his radio, “It’s all clear up here, Lieutenant.”
Copy that, Cruz. Head back out here.” Kelly ordered.
It was getting foggier; darker if you will. They were about to head towards the kitchen, when Dawson almost tripped over something. “Carver, hold up.” he said, squatting down and feeling around. “There’s a kid” she said. “Carver take him out. I’ll sweep the kitchen.”
Sam picked the kid up. One arm under his neck and the other under his knees. Almost like holding a baby, but a little bigger.
“Carver’s coming out with a little boy.” Dawson announced through the radio, while shuffling to the kitchen as quickly as possible.
Carver burst through the front door and headed straight for Violet’s gurney. “Can’t be older than four. He inhaled a lot of smoke.”
“Alright. Novak, he needs an airway. Intubate him and let’s get him to Med.” Violet told her partner and looked at her fiancé.
Carver wasn’t usually the type to become involved with victims, but something about this little boy made him stand there, not able to move. Violet has seen him with kids before. They would typically be the first ones to volunteer to babysit for Kelly and Stella and he’s great with them. It was something different seeing him growing an attachment towards a victim.
She was snapped out of her thoughts at the sound of her partner. “He’s intubated. Let’s go.” Violet hopped in the seat behind the wheel. She took off down the road as soon as Sam tapped on the ambo doors.
They finished their secondary search and were almost done cleaning up when Stella went up to her husband. “How is your neck feeling?”
“It’s fine, Stel. I can still do my job.” He leaned down and kissed his wife.
Engine was already back at the firehouse when they started the clean up. Am i had probably also already gotten back as well.
Firehouse 51
Engine rolled in right before ambo 61. The paramedics hopped out and headed towards the kitchen. “Jeez Brett, I’m starving.”
Sylvie walked through the doors first to see Brianne handing Alyani off to Herrmann and Brittany leaving the bathroom and coming straight towards them. “You’re back. Is Kelly here?”
”Not yet. Tuck and squad are cleaning up the scene. They will be back soon.” Herman kept on looking towards them. “Why do he keep looking over here?” Brittany asked.
“He’s probably wondering why Kelly’s ex-wife is here 9 years after the divorce.” Sylvie answered.
Alyani reached for Sylvie, so Christopher stood and handed her to the paramedic. “I want mama.”
“She will be back soon, sweetheart.” Alyani gave the stranger in front of her the same confused face that Stella uses.
“Hey, I’m Brittany. What’s your name?”
“Alyani. My mommy and daddy work here.”
A half an hour later, truck and squad were pulling into the apparatus floor on opposite sides of each other as Kelly walked past Stella, she grabbed his arm, “We were a little busy, so I forgot to tell you that Brianne dropped lyni off because she had to take her daughter to the doctor.”
”Let’s go see our baby then.” Kelly interlaced his fingers with his wife’s’.
Kelly guided Stella through the doors into the kitchen, not noticing the old face sitting in the corner, “Mama, Daddy!” The three-year-old shouted and leaked into her father‘s arms. “Hey, baby girl. Did you do anything fun today with Brianne?” he asked his daughter.
“We went to the park. She said we can get fries and a shake when we pick Gabe up from school.
Herrmann walked back into the common room at the sound of his coworkers and friends’ voices, “Hey, Severide?”
”Yeah, Herrmann?”
”Could I talk to you for a minute?”
Kelly hands their daughter off to Stella and walks into the meeting room behind the engine lieutenant, “What’s so secret that you need to talk about?”
”Why is your ex-wife here? She was sitting in the common room.”
“What? I didn’t know that she was here. Stella knows that I was married before, but I never expected her to show up at the firehouse, especially nine years later.
