Your body is getting so cold now that it's finally over. I'm truly sorry for this, Rose. You were so brave, so kind, so… destructive. I didn’t mean for any of this to happen, but you forced my hand. I love you, so please stay by my side as my gem darkens for you.
Present time.
"Steven, be careful! We don't know what this thing is capable of!" Pearl yelled as he threw her spear at Spindel doing her best to hold her off from the others. Steven didn't listen, though. He kept running, holding the last shred of hope for the group. Garnet was busy trying to help Amethyst from under the falling rocks, and Pearl couldn't worry about two things at once. She saw Spindel getting ready for another attack and instantly braced herself only for it to go straight for Steven instead. In a last stitch effort, she threw her spear again and started running.
"Steven!" Pearl screamed as she pushed him out of the way of the attack. Steven stumbled for a bit but kept running. He was almost there. Suddenly, a loud crash got his attention, and he looked back for a moment. Pearl had been struck in her gem, and her body was now nothing but dust.
Tears filled Steven's eyes, and he wondered what this was all for. Why were they here? Why were they fighting Spindel? Why are so many of my friends dying?
He was broken out of these thoughts by Garnet, who threw him out of the path of another one of Spindel's attacks, taking the hit. She was badly damaged and screamed, "Keep running steven! Get to the Warp pad!" So he kept running and running, no longer wanting to look back to see what carnage was left of his friends. Until he finally managed to make it to his destination. The Warp pad.
As he climbed onto it, Spindel caught up to him and threw a deadly attack, hitting Amethyst, who managed to jump in front of him. Her soul gem cracked, and she fell to the ground, her body distorting as writhed in agony.
"No!" Steven yelled as he tripped and fell onto the Warp pad, dropping the object he was desperately protecting. It shattered, and the glow of the pad changed into a deep black. When the glow disappeared, Steven was obviously no longer there, and he traveled back home.
He coughed aggressively and crawled off of the pad landing on the hardwood floor. He was too weak to stand and was too heartbroken to cry. It was as if his whole world came crashing down in just a matter of minutes. He laid there for what felt like eternity until his father came inside.
"Hey dad…" Steven muttered as he turned to look at him. Wait, huh? "Dad, what's with the new look?"
"Um… who are you, and why are you in my house?" Only then did Steven look around. Everything was different but somehow still the same. Just when he was about to call out again to his father, another figure walked in. "Wha...Mom!?"
