Work Text:

“What the hell do you mean there’s no heat?” Bakugou glared at their teacher.

“Bakugou, if you haven’t noticed, we are all snowed in. The furnace went out, and no one will be able to get out here until some of the roads are cleared,” Aizawa explained again, “Now, if you keep everyone down in the common room and keep the doors shut to the upper floors, you should be able to keep it warmer.”

“Wait, U-A doesn’t have a backup generator or anything?” Kaminari raised his hand.

“It’s frozen, not an electric problem,” Aizawa shook his head. “Look, what I am trying to tell you is that there will be no heat tonight, and the temperatures are freezing. I recommend you all go up to your rooms, get what you need for the night, and sleep down here together.”

“Mr.Aizawa,” Todoroki raised his hand, “I can omit heat.”

“I’m aware, Todoroki, but you cannot omit heat all night. You would wear yourself to exhaustion.”

“I can do it for some of the night.”

“Todoroki, I don’t want you to wear yourself down.”

“I’ll be fine.”

Aizawa rolled his eyes. “If you do it for a little bit, fine, but if you feel any fatigue, I need you to stop. Recovery Girl is off-campus, and there is no way we could get any of you medical attention if something went wrong.”

Todoroki just nodded.

“My room is fucking freezing already,” Bakugou grumbled.

It was no secret he hated the cold. His quirk and body thrived in the heat; it was hard to produce sweat in the cold. That’s why he always gravitated towards Shouto’s left side.

“It doesn’t seem bad,” Todoroki shrugged, watching him grab his things for the night.

“Yeah, well, you are a walking heater.”

Bakugou realized in his complaining that his room had gotten significantly warmer.

“Shouto, are you using your quirk?”

Todoroki just shrugged.

“Stop it! You are going to wear yourself out.”

“But you were saying it was cold.”

“Yeah, I don’t like the cold, but I’ll be fine,” Bakugou threw on a hoodie and sweatpants for extra warmth. “Here, put this on.”

Todoroki caught the hoodie thrown at him. " Thank you, but you know I’m fine with the cold.”

“Just shut up and put it on,” Bakugou rolled his eyes.

Tsu’s teeth were already chattering; she was exhausted and fell asleep beside Uraraka. The girls decided to all share blankets in a pile next to the couch, where the boys were on the other side of the common room.

“Tsu, are you okay?” Yaoyorozu shook her awake.

“It’s too cold for me,” she admitted tiredly.

Todoroki glanced over from across the room. Bakuguo was selfishly leaning into his left side, where Kaminari and Aoyama were also near, clearly trying to steal his warmth. Most of the girls were already shivering, and the boys were trying to appear fine, but you could tell it was starting to be unbearable for everyone.

Mina and Kirishima put something on the TV to calm everyone down. Yaoyorozu, Satou, and Ojiro made cups of tea for everyone. Iida attempted to get everyone to use each other for body heat. Todoroki continued to watch his classmates. Kouda was trying to keep his rabbit warm with Ojiro’s tail’s help. Mineta and Tsu tried hiding in Shouji's arms. Jirou, Hagakure, Yaoyrozu, Mina, and Urarka were all under two blankets together. Aoyama and Kaminari were still getting suspiciously closer to him. Tokoyami, Satou, Iida, Kirishima, and Sero were sitting very close to each other under individual blankets. Midoriya was pacing and trying to come up with some other ideas. He eventually came and sat down beside Bakugou. Bakugou had somehow already fallen asleep despite his classmates' chatter. Todoroki should have known; he was usually sleeping by this time and knew he was probably the warmest other than Todoroki himself.

Todoroki sighed and began admitting heat. It didn’t take a lot of effort, but he knew it would start wearing on him the longer he let his quirk run.

It took about ten minutes for someone to realize.

“Todoroki? Is your quirk activated?” Midoriya looked across a sleeping Bakugou.

“No?” Todoroki lied.

“It seems to have gotten warmer.”

“It must just be everyone being in here.”

“Todoroki, you are definitely releasing heat, buddy,” Kaminari said, feeling the heat coming off his body.

“I always release heat. You must be noticing it now because it’s so cold here.”

“I don’t feel so tired,” Tsu looked up.

“Todoroki, stop it. We will be fine without you over-exhausting your quirk,” Iida glared at him.

“I’m not!”

“Todoroki, just take it easy,” Midoriya said calmly, “You can use it for a little bit, but when you start to get tired, please stop it.”

“Fine,” Todoroki finally admitted for being the reason for the room to get warmer.

Everyone got used to the room's warmth and began falling asleep.

“Todoroki, you’ve had your quirk activated for an hour. I’m sure there is enough heat in the room for the rest of the night,” Midoriya looked at him, sleepy.

“I’m done, Midoriya, I’m okay,” Todoroki nodded.

“I don’t know if I believe you,” Midoriya stared at him.

“I promise.”

“Okay, goodnight, Todoroki.”

Bakugou woke up in an even colder room. He glanced down at his phone; it was 6:00 AM already. He looked around at the rest of his classmates. Most of them were still asleep, but you could tell some just had their eyes closed.

Wait, when he fell asleep, he was extremely warm. He was literally lying on Todoroki’s left side. Why was it so cold again? Shit. That idiot used his quirk most of the night.

“Shouto, you got to wake up,” Bakugou gently shook his side.

“It’s so early, Bakugou,” Kaminari whined instead.

“I’m not waking you up, Dunce Face! Shouto,” Bakugou shook him again.

He wasn’t responsive. What did you do to yourself, Shouto?”

“Shouto!” Bakugou yelled, this time waking up the rest of his classmates.

“Kacchan, what’s wrong?” Midoriya quickly turned to his side.

Bakugou picked up his limp body, grabbing his wrist.

“His pulse is really faint,” Bakugou looked up at them in concern.

“I’ll get Aizawa,” Iida jumped up in a panic.

“Here, wrap this around him,” Kirishima grabbed an extra blanket.

Bakugou nodded, wrapping him in his embrace, trying to increase his body temperature.

“He kept the rest of us warm most of the night,” Yaoyorozu shook her head.

“How’s his body temperature?” Sero stared at Bakugou.

“He’s freezing,” Bakugou looked up, “His shivering is so bad.”

“His quirk’s exhausted,” Midoriya rubbed his back.

“He needs to warm up.”

“It doesn’t help that it’s freezing here again,” Kamianri admitted.

Suddenly, they heard a click and the sound of the furnace running.

“Was that the furnace?” Jirou looked up.

“I think so,” Urarka agreed.

Aizawa and Iida just swung open the door.

“Mr.Aizawa, is the furnace back on?” Mina asked.

“Yes, someone was able to come this early, luckily,” Aizawa pushed his class aside to get to Todoroki.

“Idiot used his quirk for who knows how long,” Bakugo looked up.

“I knew he would. I told him not to, but he’s stubborn,” Aizawa sighed.

“His pulse is faint,” Bakugou mumbled.

“He should be okay once he warms back up. Bakugou, let’s take him to his room and put him in bed.”

Bakugou nodded as Aizawa followed him, carrying Shouto’s limp body towards the elevator.

“I don’t care what you have to do, just get him warmed up,” Aizawa sighed.

Bakugou grunted, “Stupid IcyHot bastard, never thought I would hear you say that.”

“I don’t think I would have to say that either,” Aizawa shook his head, “I’ll be downstairs when he wakes up.”

Bakugou nodded.

Bakugou grumbled as he set Todoroki down on his futon, covering him in his one blanket, then sitting down and pulling his body onto his lap. Bakugou had already started sweating again after the furnace turned on and carrying around his frozen partner. He hoped pressing Shouto against him would help him warm up faster.

Bakugou felt him stir about thirty minutes later, still lying across his lap.

“Kats?” Shouto mumbled, leaning more into him.

“It’s me, you frozen bastard.”

“You’re warm.”

“I know,” Bakugou muttered, drenched in sweat at this point.

“I like it.”

“Well, that’s because you tried to freeze yourself to death.”

“What?”

“You don’t remember?”

“I remember trying to keep everyone warm.”

“Yeah, and then you overexerted your left side, and your right side took over and tried to give you hypothermia.”

“Oh,” Todoroki sat up, looking into two furious red eyes.

“Oh! You almost died, and the most you say is oh?” Bakugou glared at him.

“Well, I’m fine, so?” Todoroki shrugged.

“Shouto! I swear, give me one good reason not to throw you off this bed right now.”

Shouto tilted his head with his usual puzzled look that made Katsuki either want to kiss him or punch him, depending on his mood.

“Why are you giving me that look?” Bakugou screamed at him.

“Because you are preventing me from leaving the bed, why would you throw me off?”

“I swear! I will leave you to become a human popsicle next time.”

“You could just let it go,” Shouto closed his eyes and laid back on Katsuki’s chest.

Bakugou sighed and kissed the top of his head.

They walked down an hour later when Todoroki decided to wake up fully.

“Todoroki!” Midoriya instantly ran and wrapped his arms around him.

“Back off, Deku,” Bakugou growled.

“You’re warm again!”

“Katsuki helped. He’s really hot,” Todoroki nodded as the rest of the class broke out in laughter.

“I told you not to say things like that!” Bakugou glared at him, trying to hide his blushing cheeks.

Todoroki tilted his head, “But you are.”

“Thank you, Todoroki, for keeping us warm all night, but don’t ever do that again,” Tsu smiled.

“Tsu is right. It was appreciated but irresponsible. Todoroki,” Iida added.

Aizawa stepped in, “Are you feeling better now, Todoroki?”

“Yes, sir,” Todoroki nodded.

“Good.”

The class rested the rest of the day after classes were canceled as they had to fix some burst pipes in the school.

“Why is it so hot now?” Kaminari whined, throwing off his sweatshirt.

“Well, they probably had to turn the furnace to ensure everything was defrosted,” Yaoyorozu added.

Suddenly, the temperature in the room dropped again.

“Todoroki!”

Almost the entire class turned to look at him.

“I swear, I will fucking end you myself if you try that again!” Bakugou glared at him.

“You wouldn’t,” Todoroki smirked, “You like me too much.”

Bakugou instantly tackled him off the couch. Todoroki looked up at him angrily, looming over him, and smiled.

Bakugou reluctantly picked him up and put him back on the couch, grumbling as he laid his head down on his shoulder. He knew it was useless to pretend to be angry at him again.

“Stop staring, you damn extras!”

The rest of Class 1-A quickly turned their heads before Bakugou tried fighting them instead.

“You are lucky, IcyHot.”

“I know, I have you.”

Bakugou’s pride would never recover that day.
