"I don't. Daniel, something tells me not to trust him."
Daniel rolled his eyes. "You're being paranoid, Sam. It's Jack. He's not acting weird or saying weird things. I don't know what you are seeing."
Convinced her best friend was conspiring with their boss, she shook her head and smiled weakly. "You're right. I'm being paranoid."
With a friendly clap on her shoulder and a bright smile, Daniel left her office, promising to return for lunch. She waited until he turned the corner before shutting her office door. Sam pulled up the security camera in Jack's office. A shadow stood behind him as he pecked at the keyboard of his desktop. She assumed he was writing his latest mission report.
The shadow moved to his left side as he straightened in his chair. It put a hand on his shoulder. Sam watched the colonel stiffen as the shadow disappeared. Moving haltingly, he glanced to either side before refocusing on his computer. His head tilted slowly from one side and then to the other. His hands moved swiftly over the keys as the unknown entity took him over.
SG1 sat in the briefing room the next morning to review the mission from the previous day. Sam stared hard at her boss and best friend. Daniel had a shadow lingering around his right shoulder, and Jack was still twitching. Teal'c, Hammond, and the other two were acting as though nothing was amiss.
Halfway into their meeting, the shadow inside of Jack lunged out of him and toward her. Sam Jumped back, tipping over her chair and pulling a pistol from under the back of her shirt. "Don't move! Nobody move! Did you see the shadow? Sir? Are you yourself?" She shifted her aim from Jack, who knew better than to move to just above Daniel's shoulder. "Daniel! It's going to get into you if you don't move! Now!"
Before she could pull the trigger, Teal'c disarmed and subdued her. Jack grabbed the side arm from the table and stepped away. "Carter, what is wrong with you? There's nothing! No one is here but us!"
She struggled to get away from the Jaffa. "There's a thing, a shadow person. It was in you, and it tried to get into me! Sir! It's going to get Daniel!" She pleaded with her CO.
"O'Neill," Teal'c said. "I believe this is what Doctor Fraiser calls a hallucination. I believe it may have been caused by Major Carter's encounter with the tree on yesterday's mission." He stood holding a fighting Sam. "She should be in the infirmary."
Hammond nodded as he watched the major struggle. "Teal'c? Would you mind?"
The Jaffa nodded and threw a screaming and kicking Sam over his shoulder. Jack, Hammond, and Daniel all looked helplessly at one another as her cries for help vanished down the concrete corridors of The Mountain.
