>>>Black Ninja Video Audition// Candidate #32
[The video begins with rustling heard off screen. The video has a grainy quality, and is pointed at a plain white wall. The lighting is warm, and there's a faint buzzing that can be heard.
“Okay I’m ready!” The audio peaks at the loud exclamation, but finally the candidate appears in frame. The young boy is beaming as he stares from the back of the room into the camera. His hair is frizzy and irregular, and he is shaking with anticipation.
“The camera is on and recording - go!,” An older woman's voice chimes from behind the camera. The effect is immediate. He calms and stands straighter, confident as he speaks.
“Hello prospective directors! My name is Kai Smith - I am 12 years old and I am auditioning for the role of the Black Ninja! The scene I am going to be performing for you today is about the recruitment of the Black Ninja from the top of the mountain!”
Kai smiles and glances behind the camera - looking for a signal it would seem. as he commences his audition.
…
The camera then cuts and shows Kai and a younger girl holding wooden swords and standing opposite each other. The younger girl has a dark bob, and wears a severe expression on her face. They are now standing in a small grassy garden, a football and a skipping rope visible at the bottom of the frame.
“You will go no further Ninja! I, Samukai, will take the golden weapon by force for my master Garmadon!” Her voice is tight, and her posture rigid in comparison to Kai who stands relaxed and confident in front of her.
“Not if my team and I have anything to say about it you dodgery old bag of bones - Ninja Go!”
The battle between the two is short lived as the girl is knocked down with Kai standing victorious. He pauses for a moment, and mimics putting the sword in a sheath before he hurries over to the girl.
“Sorry Nya, I didn’t mean to knock you over so hard - are you okay?” Nya is helped to her feet as she responds.
“Of course! If we weren’t acting we both know I would’ve beat you!” The words hold no heat and the pair seem satisfied with their performance. The camera shakes, as the person holding it approaches the two children. The prompt is silent, but both turn to the camera.
“To demonstrate that I am willing to go above and beyond, my sister and I just demonstrated my action capabilities as well! Thank you for your time, I look forward to hearing back!”
The video ends, Kai standing with his arm around Nya in the back garden…]
…
Observations:
-> Kai is very charismatic, he seems to respond well to the camera and to signals he receives.
-> He seems to have a lot of energy, this comes across as infectious - he does compose himself.
-> He remembered the lines satisfactorily, and his delivery was solid if not Theatrical.
-> Did demonstrate the ability to work with a prop - his sister is in the audition, but has not auditioned for any role.
Conclusion: He is not what we are looking for for the role of the black Ninja,
but he has what we envisioned for the red ninja. Please contact his
agent so we can offer him the role and inquire about his sister’s interest in a role.

>>>White Ninja Video audition// Candidate #17
[The video begins. Standing in the centre of the frame is a tall boy with dark hair neatly combed to the side. Coupled with his dark skin and his ironed, navy uniform, the boy stands out against the bright studio he is standing in. The video quality is clear, and the audio is connected to the microphone attached to the collar of his blazer.
“Hello, my name is Cole Brookstone. I am auditioning for the role of the White Ninja in the show Ninjago. I am 13 years old and have experience with performing on stage and in winning competitions, so I am both a skilled actor and a capable performer.”
To the left of the frame, the end of a trophy cabinet is visible, evidence for the boy's claims. His speech is fluid and practised, but the words aren’t his own. Despite this, Cole stands straight and delivers the introduction with the certainty of a practised performer.
“The script I am reading from is the attached section of how the White Ninja is recruited to join ‘Master Wu’s’ team.” Cole then removes his jacket, he rolls up his sleeves and relaxes. The reading then begins…]
…
Observations:
-> Cole demonstrates a high level of professionalism in the audition.
-> He is dressed formally, similar to how we imagine the white Ninja would.
-> Clearly familiar with scripts and with delivering lines confidently and with assurance.
-> He has listed in his application that he has led dance teams before, please keep note as we have yet to find a promising ‘leader’ for the team being cast.
Conclusion: A valuable candidate for one of the roles of Ninja. He has
understood his character well, but we feel he may better suit the Black
Ninja. If no better Candidate appears, offer the role of White Ninja.

>>> White Ninja Video audition// Candidate #65
[The video starts with text on screen: ‘Zane Julien, auditioning for the White Ninja’. The frame then shows a large bedroom with tall windows and accents of pink to compliment the numerous plants and greenery visible.
Sat in front of the camera with a serene smile and a distant look in his blue eyes is Zane. The video is evidently filmed on the webcam of a computer, as the edges of the frame blur slightly.
Zane is wearing a comfortable white turtleneck, appearing tidy and organised from the hair on his head to the folded sheets on his bed.
“Good day, my name is Zane Julien. I am a 13 year old student with a curiosity to pursue new avenues in life, as such I am here auditioning for the role of the White Ninja on your show!” The boy’s voice is rhythmical and steady. Interestingly it looks as though Zane is staring through the camera to try and connect to the people he is speaking through, he appears every bit as interested in seeing how his audition goes as the potential viewer would.
“The script I will perform to you today has been sent to me, and details the White Ninja’s recruitment.” Zane wastes no further time and begins his audition in earnest…]
…
Observations:
-> Zane is exactly what we have been looking for but haven’t been able to get right.
-> He embodies the whimsy of the white Ninja perfectly, almost unsettling but reassuring at the same time.
Conclusion: Contact Zane’s manager and offer the role. Be insistent.
Rectification: Cast Cole as the Black Ninja.

>>> Blue Ninja Video Auditions// Candidate #24
[The video begins in chaos. The camera shakes and there are several clangs and loud noises that echo from the blurred screen. After several seconds the camera settles and a cluttered yet domestic kitchen can be seen alongside a cowering boy.
Books are stacked on the table tops, a mixture of sea-shells and half constructed machines teeter into frame, and the boy standing in the middle looks mortified. His face is half obstructed by the scarf around his neck and his short red hair seems to stick to his head due to his nerves.
His anxious muttering is picked up by the camera’s surprisingly good audio as he removes his scarf and hands it forcefully to someone off screen. He seems to compose himself as his nattering becomes discernible.
“Okay Jay, Take number 7. You’ve got this, 7 times the charm. Everyone knows 7 is the luckiest number - well not everyone, well mabe 7 isn’t the luckiest… But-”
“Jay bird, - whenever you’re ready!” A man speaks clearly behind the camera, movingly slightly as a woman affirms what he has said.
“Right! Right, sorry,” Jay giggles nervously - shaking his arms before he looks up at the camera. It’s like someone has flipped a switch - the only indicator of his previous nerves was the hair that was still sticking to his neck.
“My name is Jay Walker, and I’m auditioning for the role of the ‘Blue Ninja’ - for a lot of reasons, I really like blue being one of them, and - and I want to challenge myself and do something out of my comfort zone!”
“Don’t forget your age Hun,”
“Oh - uh, right! I’m 12 years old.” The boy stammered.
“Well done Jaybird! Here Cliff, here’s the script-” The audition continues…]
…
Observations:
-> Jay seems easily distracted and he seems to be camera shy.
-> There is potential as he seems to act confident in front of the cameras.
-> He does have that jittery quality we were looking for in relation to the Blue Ninja.
-> Not completely sold on his ability to embody the character.
Conclusion: Candidate has some of the qualities we are looking for
but there is some uncertainty in the consistency of his acting. Don’t
write him off completely - could be a good supporting character.
Rectification: The other candidate that was chosen for the Blue Ninja
retracted their audition due to family issues. Upon re-evaluation, Jay
should be offered the role of Blue Ninja.

New Ninjago action reality TV show actors announced!
In partnership with Nextflix, Ninjago Entertainment has finally announced the young cast members for its new, highly anticipated show: Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitsu! You may be wondering why a show with a name after our world would be viewed with anticipation as intense as we’ve seen - it’s because of one simple reason: Ninjas!
Ninjago is a world rich with mythological tales and folklore, yet in our lightning fast modern age, more and more people seem to be forgetting the roots of what makes Ninjago such a fantastic place to live and be a part of!
Nextflix show runners stated: “We hope we can bring back the interest in our world’s history and teach people of all ages the magic of our world through a dynamic and interesting story.” In addition to this they clarified why they chose to tell the story through the eyes of four young Ninja: “They will represent the youngest generation, who we believe to be the most out of touch with our ancestral roots and it will use human connection and stories to re-frame classical stories and heroes”.
The approach is unlike any we have ever seen before for a show - and interest has rocketed amongst the general public and history buffs alike. Which is why spirits are high in the face of the newly confirmed main cast!
Starring Kai Smith as the Red Ninja:
[The image displays Kai sitting on a garden step, with an arm around a large fluffy Alsatian. He is wearing wide jeans and a yellow jumper, his face bright with a boyish smile. The sun compliments the pair, setting both the Alsatian's dark glossy fur and Kai’s wild hair ablaze.]
Starring Cole Brookestone as the Black Ninja:
[The image attached shows Cole standing on a first place podium with a crystal trophy in his hands. His dark hair is pulled back into a neat bunny tail and his face is pulled into a professional smile. He is wearing a dark leotard, with the words ‘The Royal Blacksmiths’ shimmering in silver down his arm.]
Starring Zane Julien as the White Ninja:
[Zane’s photo is different from the others as it is a passport photograph. The background is white, and only Zane’s upper body is visible. His button up shirt is ironed neatly and a thin silver chain rests on his neck. Despite the photo’s clinical nature, Zane still gazes warmly through the camera, neat and unruffled.]
Starring Jay Walker as the Blue Ninja:
[The photo of Jay was taken at a restaurant. Beside him a neon sign bathes him in a blue light, whilst waiters and customers can be seen weaving between tables and decor behind him. His posture is open, and a genuine, beaming grin decorates his freckled face. Jay is wearing a white shirt with a comfortable, pastel red cardigan layered on top. ]
Despite all this there have been concerns voiced about the potential quality of this upcoming show due to Ninjago Entertainments track record of unsuccessful productions. The most recent release prior to the development of Ninjago was a live action remake of the animated success ‘Chimp adolescent’, which was met with a poor critical and public reception.
The show’s pilot episodes are due to air at the start of next year, production has already begun - with the show rumoured to begin filming late September or early October. Only time will tell if the show marks a turning point for the company and its aspiring talent.
