September 7, 2023: My name is Julien Betts. I’m a reporter from Carson City, Nevada. Today, I am being taken to a high-security prison in Mina to interview one of Oregon’s most famous killers. The building is so high security that I have to get a police escort just to be let inside. There are seemingly hundreds of layers of security and identification, because the prisoners here are so dangerous. “Ms. Betts?” The officer was here to bring me inside.
“Yes, that’s me!”
“Alright Ms. Betts, and who are you here to speak to?”
“I’m here to speak to Anthony Simone.”
The officer was stunned silent for a moment, almost as if he had a painful flashback. “Oh… Simone. You really sure you wanna speak to him? He’s always pretty on edge.”
“Yes, I’m sure. I want to ask him about his life. About… what he did to all those people.” I could hear my voice trail off. I was starting –even though I’d already begun– to have my doubts about talking to this psycho.
“Are you ready to go in, or do you need a minute to think?”
“No, I’m ready. How far in is he?”
“All the way. He’s in the max security unit, can’t really trust him around the other inmates.”
“Oh, –anyways– I’m ready. Let’s do this.”
