Chapter Text
Arin and Sora shivered as they shuffled up the stairs, the air rapidly dropping and freezing wind blasting through them, Sora held tightly onto Arin’s hoodie. The night air rapidly cooled as the sun fell below the horizon. Soon the only light that illuminated them was Arin’s small flashlight.
“Are you sure this is a good idea?” she yelled over the wind.
“We are almost there!” he yelled back. “The doors are just a little further!” He pointed towards the lanterns. His little hands gripped the green mask harder.
Shaking rapidly Arin pressed the doorbell, the sound of the doorbell echoing only to dip into silence. He could feel his gut dropping by each second. Just as they were about to turn around the door swung open.
Golden light shined on them before a shadow enveloped them. In the doorway stood a man in a green outfit and shaggy blonde hair, a bright smile plastered across his face until he looked down and it shifted to a softer but sadder gaze, he leaned down resting on one knee in front of them.
“Sorry for taking so long, I wasn't expecting company,” kindness and warmness laced his voice as he gave a soft laugh. “What brings you kids up at this time of night? It’s very dangerous, you know.”
Only one word was able to escape Arin, “Lloyd!” he began to shake Sora’s shoulder. His smile widened at the sight of his hero.
“Looks like I got a fan,” Lloyd laughed. “Say is that mine?” he pointed at the green mask.
He opened his hand allowing the young fan to drop it in his, it was dirty but otherwise intact. Looking behind the boy he noticed the girl shivering, her skin turning paler by the second.
He could feel the cold nip of the air on his skin as well, and he knew the walk back to wherever they came from would be impossibly long. In that second, he made his decision.
“Would you two like to come inside? The air is only going to get colder,” he pulled the door wider. “And trust me it’s not a good flight back down in this weather.”
Arin was practically ready to rush right in, yet he turned to Sora to see if she was okay with it. She nodded slowly yet kept her head down avoiding his gaze. As they walked into the monastery, he could see their shivering bodies begin to settle. Luckily, they were just cold, not wet.
“How about something to eat?” He grabbed the pot of rice he had been making. “It’s probably not the best but it's warm.”
Sora was beginning to say no, but her stomach rumbled. Lloyd smiled as her face began to turn bright red, he laid a bowl in front of them both giving them spoons.
“Thank you,” she managed to whisper.
They ate quickly, he was almost worried they would upset their stomach.
“Woah there,” he placed his hand over their bowls. “You might want to slow down; you could upset your stomachs.”
They nodded attempting to eat slower, Lloyd resigned himself to analyzing them throughout dinner, something was setting off alarms in his head. He noted how thin they were, most likely being scavengers, especially with the grime under their fingernails. Thinking back to when he was their age, he remembered being bigger though he was more well fed, even at Darkley’s he had a hot meal every day. When he takes them home tomorrow maybe he could drop off some supplies, it was becoming a difficult world to live in.
As he continued to refill their bowls, he noted new things each time. Matted and greasy hair. How stained and dirty the clothes were. He felt bad that they had to go through this, they didn't look any older than nine or ten. Did they have families to return to?
Time for some light digging. “You two know my name, but I haven't learned yours yet.”
The boy came forward first, “My name is Arin!”
Arin had been practically shining the entire time, Lloyd could tell he was a ninja fan. He wore an orange hoodie with a makeshift dragon symbol on his shoulder.
Barely a whisper left the girl's mouth. “Sora.”
He nodded and smiled, she had been silent and reserved for the entire time, even going so far as to avoid eye contact with him every time. Her outfit however looked like a uniform of some kind; it looked like she had ripped off the trim on it. Her pink hair is what stood out the most to him and deep golden irises.
“Have you two had your fill or do you want more?” he had hoped they were full, especially since they practically ate the entire pot.
Bits of rice hung to their mouths as they shook their heads. Color had finally returned to their little faces.
“Good, would you two like to get some of that grime off?” He walked over to a shelf pulling out two towels. “We have several showers throughout the monastery, two are right next to each other but if you want you can take turns.”
Sora gave a skeptical look at first her eyes darting between the showers and staying close to Arin but relented. Lloyd handed over a set of fresh clothing and towels to the kids before sending them off. He tried his best to match the colors giving Arin an orange set but since white and black were taken, he grabbed a pink set for Sora.
As Lloyd waited for the kids to get done, he sorted through Kai’s room, his heart grew heavier as he came across various pictures and memories. Finally, he found it and grabbed Kai's hair styling kit. Hopefully, he didn't mind Lloyd using it. The sound of quiet whispering filled his ears as the kids exited the bathrooms. Along with the tiny patter of them searching for him.
“Arin, Sora, come here for a few seconds please,” he made his way back to the kitchen.
“What’s that?” Sora whispered, appearing next to him.
He barely heard her.
“It’s a hair kit used by my friend Kai; I figured you two would like your hair untangled.”
Sora’s eyes widened and glistened; he had her approval. Now what about Arin? He turned his head just as he thought Arin was going to jump to the moon. Standing behind them he did his best, all those lessons with Kai and Nya were finally coming in handy.
He worked on Arin’s headfirst, the curly hair having knotted, and being as gentle as he could he cut the knots out and applied various products to get it presentable. Proud of his work he moved on to Sora.
“Can you make it a ponytail?” Sora spoke up for the first time.
He happily agreed, ecstatic that she was finally talking to him. As he fixed up her hair, he noted how happy she looked that her hair was clean.
“I’m sorry if this is prying, where do you two live?”
Arin piped up. “We live at the Crossroads,” he marveled in the mirror.
“What’s that?” He scrunched up his face. “I haven't been down the mountain in a while.”
“Everyone who got displaced in the merge has been finding their way to the Crossroads,” she whispered fiddling with her ponytail.
“What about parents or guardians? Anyone to take care of you?” He knew he was pushing it.
Arin looked down, looking like tears were going to well in his eyes. While Sora looked to the side like the words had physically hurt her. He nodded and apologized before helping them down from the chairs.
“I’m sure you two must be tired,” he motioned for them to follow him. “These are the spare rooms. If you need anything, please let me know.” He smiled before opening the doors.
“Can I sleep in Arin’s room,” she whispered.
Lloyd nodded before closing the door, hearing the small children whisper amongst themselves before leaving. He was smiling, how long had it been since he smiled? After the merge he was all by himself, the bounty soon broke down as well, and then thing after thing happened forcing him to stay in the monastery by himself.
He played with the thought in his head, maybe they could stay? He had always wanted kids but with world-ending threats happening every second it wasn't a likely thing to happen. But it had been peaceful longer than he had honestly expected, but he needed to search for his family.
His internal ramblings went on and on until he found himself on the bounty. Reluctantly grabbing the tools, he walked down the staircase to the engine room. Parts lay scattered across the ground and various engine blueprints hung on the wall.
Not that he could make heads or tails out of it, he never was good at this kind of stuff. Nya, Jay, Zane, and Pixel were making good progress before the merge, so theoretically, all the hard stuff should be over. He knew he wasn't as tech-savvy as them, but he did manage to connect the steering somehow so surely, he could do this too.
He picked up a couple of parts and put them together, it looked like they fit, slowly he made his way trying to get rid of all the smaller parts before moving to the big ones.
Sweat dripped off his face as he settled onto the bench, there was a knock on the wood next to him, looking over Arin and Sora were leaning their heads into the room staring at him.
“What time is it? Shouldn't you be sleeping?” he tilted his head.
“It’s morning?” Arin piped up scrunching her face.
They must have searched all over for him, he motioned for them to come closer.
“What are you working on?” Sora asked, examining the blueprints.
Her eyes seemed to be scanning every piece of information on the blueprints before jumping to the parts that lay scattered across the room.
“It’s an engine, but I'm not having much luck with it,” he sat the wrench down.
“You placed the power coupling wrong, you put this piece in the wrong place.” she pointed at the two spots before continuing to ramble on about everything he did wrong for the engine.
“Lloyd, how did you even manage to get this part placement wrong?” Arin seemed to be scowling at his work
Lloyd sat there for a few seconds, he was dumbfounded, what did they mean? There was no way they knew all that. But she said it with such certainty that maybe she does, even Arin seemed to be judging him.
He followed her instructions slowly putting each piece in place where she wanted, it was almost like she was a different person with how much she was talking. When everything was done the three of them walked to the control panel. Hesitantly he pressed the activation button, and the engine came alive with a roar and a bright orange flame poured out of the ship's thrusters.
“You little genius, how did you know?” he picked her up and swung her in the air.
Her face is bright red but with a smile. “I've always been good at stuff like this.” her voice had gone back to being meek.
He sat her down and got to her level, “Thank you Sora, I have a few more things I need to check. Why don't you and Arin explore the ship for a few minutes.”
“Really!!” Arin grabbed Sora and ran off.
He fiddled with the control panel and each system seemed to be in working order. “Arin, Sora you two ready for breakfast?” he yelled out.
“Yes,” Sora said next to him.
He almost jumped out of his skin; she was too quiet for her good. He picked her and Arin up, they were surprisingly light, if they decided to stay he would need to feed them more.
They entered the monastery’s kitchen, and he sat them on the stools.
“Let’s see here,” he mumbled to himself as he sorted through the fridge. “Looks like the only meat we have right now is fish, you two okay with that?” He turned his head to look at them.
It looked like their mouths were already watering, but he couldn't ride the whole meal on just fish, he remembered liking cut carrots growing up so he’d do that too. It must have been a while since they've had a good meal, how bad was it getting down there? When was the last time he left the mountain?
“Here’s breakfast.” he smiled, placing the warm plates down in front of them. “It’s not as good as Zane’s cooking but it should do the trick.”
They happily ate it much to his surprise; he didn't think they would like the carrots. They reminded him so much of his past, that he couldn't deny the selfish feeling growing inside of him, he wanted to give them the same chance he had.
“Oh, by the way, here’s your clothes,” he pulled them out from the dryer and laid them neatly on the table.
“They’re fixed up,” Arin examined the hoodie with a sad smile spreading across his face.
“Is that hoodie important to you, Arin?” He wished he could take back the words as soon as it left his mouth.
Tears formed in his eyes, “my parents helped me customize it before they disappeared in the merge.”
He nodded and apologized again; they sat in silence for a while as Lloyd tried to figure out the right way to say what he was thinking.
“Arin, I'm sure you've noticed that the other ninjas aren't here, I lost them in the merge too, it’s horrible and I feel like every time I think about them, I'll cry,” he cringed at being so open. “But we need to have faith that we will see our loved ones again, I am sure your parents are looking for you right now.”
Arin nodded seemingly emboldened, or at least Lloyd thought he did. He didn't know how this next bit would go but he walked over and lowered them off the stools before getting to their level.
“How would you two like to stay here?” Too casual he cursed to himself, before continuing. “This may be a selfish desire on my part, but you two are blindingly bright. In the short amount of time you have been here, I've felt happier than I have in a long time.”
Before he had time, they had leaped on him hugging him and thanking him profusely, leaving him stunned.

Chapter 2: Aches and Sorrows
Summary:
Kai is battling his demons as he finds wyldfyre
Chapter Text
Kai slowly etched his way across the burning fields, cursing the stars as he sidestepped pools of lava. Each step careful not to disturb the delicate ground. His once pristine Gi was now ripped and ruined, he was missing a glove, and the upper part of his hood was ripped off.
He grimaced as straps dug into his shoulders, his back ached, and his feet hurt. On his back he carried a makeshift backpack from the remains of the Bounty, it held the trinkets, pictures, and important information that were irreplaceable. He lifted a hand to cover his face, the sun had been beaming in his eyes the entire day. His body was weary and his mind was slowly losing focus.
“Stupid lava fields! Stupid broken bounty!” he growled under his breath, fire shooting out of his mouth.
“Don’t tell me,” said a voice behind him. “The “great” fire ninja is being beaten by a little exertion? Perhaps you should rest, I'll be happy to help,” whispered the voice.
“I’m not talking to you,” he said bluntly to the conniving voice.
Kai continued walking ignoring the voice whispering in his ear. In the distance, he saw a cave. Slowly trudging his way over he settled into the cave, the darkness soothing his aching eyes.
“Look at you pathetic,” said the voice. “Nothing but a shell of smoke now, you’re wasting precious time.”
He sighed covering his eyes and resting his head against the cool stone attempting to block out the ramblings of whispers in his ear. The voice continued to try and get under his skin using his weakness against him only stopping when it realized it would get no more reactions from the ninja for today in the physical world. He tossed in turn in his sleep the voice reaching into his dreams trying to manipulate it into its sweet manipulation, his arm burning as if someone had shoved tiny rods into his veins.
He stood in the blackened void of his brain. Standing across from him was a darker version of himself, a crooked smile on his face. In his hand was the staff of elements
He woke up in a cold sweat, his body aching from days of nonstop walking to leave this accursed land. He rubbed his face staring out, it was night now.
Grumbling, he reluctantly left the cave, continuing in the same direction, with the same scenery, lava pools, and tall peaks here and there; he couldn't wait to see anything else. He stopped in his tracks, dragon marks.
Leaning down he rubbed his hand along the edges, the ground was wet. The tracks were narrow, the dragon appeared to be medium-sized in build, and it was a fire dragon too, which complicates things.
“Perhaps if we heal it… we could subjugate it,” the voice whispered coyly in his ears.
“Enough! We are not doing that,” He rubbed his fingers together. “It lost a lot of blood. I don't think it will last long.”
“Jeez, touchy.” The voice disappeared, finally leaving him alone.
Standing up he wiped his hands free of the dirt before continuing. He followed the tracks, each indentation showed signs that the dragon was having trouble standing. It was getting worse the tracks turned into sweeping motions until finally, he came across the beast. The dragon was heavily injured and as he assumed didn't have long left to live. Its breathing was shallow. But that was far from the worst of it.
A young girl was crying near the dragon, sorrow painted her face as tears streamed down it. Kai knew the look too well by now, he had seen it after so many battles in Ninjago City.
“Stay away!” she growled once she noticed him.
He stepped back, lowering down so that he was at her level giving her a soft smile, perhaps this would work to calm her down. “Don’t worry I won't hurt you.” he used the tongues of dragons.
All those lessons with Master Wu were paying off, the girl visibly softened, and while her tears were still flowing, she had stopped growling. She had been using the same language, so he knew she at least understood him.
“Is this your patriarch?” he rumbled pointing to the pained dragon. “I’m a dragon too.” he ignited his fist; it was a little white lie, but it worked wonders.
The girl nodded, “Help him please.”
He stepped closer inspecting the wound. It was a deep gash, and the blood he had lost was physically taking a toll on the dragon. He got closer to the dragon's head, its yellow eyes boring into him.
“Tell me what happened, who did this to you?”
“Hunters.” wheezed the dragon. “Killed them.”
Kai grabbed a geode and placed it on the dragon’s wound he motioned for Wyldfyre to grab them for him. “What are your names?” the dragon hissed as he placed another. The girl followed suit haphazardly placing geodes on the wounds. Her flames were a bright blue and ended in orange.
“She has my power!” he sat awestruck before shaking it out of his system.
“The child’s name is Wyldfyre, mine is not important right now.”
He nodded. “This is only delaying the inevitable you know,” he whispered so only the dragon would hear. “Have you explained it to her?”
The dragon shook its head, Wyldfyre looked concerned before continuing to grab geodes for Kai. When she was far away, he spoke, “She holds false illusions, and this is only fueling them.”
“That’s what she needs right now,” he snapped. “I don’t know what relationship you two have but she’s about to lose someone she cares about.” he softened his tone and finished the last geode.
“Stranger, will you look after her?” his rumbles came out wheezy. “She is special like you.”
“I- Of course, you have my word.”
He motioned for her to come over while stepping back to give her time to speak to the dragon one last time. There was immediate wailing, and Wyldfyre clung to the dragon, time seemed to pass by slowly it could have been hours or even seconds, but the dragon's embers eventually gave out.
Kai placed a hand on Wyldfyre’s shoulder, she immediately latched onto him, her tears soaking through his Gi. He held her close letting her stay as long as she needed. A new flame awakened inside him, one he had long thought dormant, he would protect her with everything he had.
Notes:
Hey all I hope you enjoyed this chapter; I wanted to try and make something sadder, in the first go around in the demo I had kept Heatwave alive but decided against it this time, sorry.
As always if you have any tips, questions, or really anything you want to say I am glad to hear it I love reading the comments.
Chapter 3: Master of Destruction
Summary:
Garmadon begins his journey to find lloyd

Chapter Text
“I AM LORD GARMADON, MASTER OF DESTRUCTION!” He roared into the air igniting his fists, purple oil-like flame slithered off and hit the ground burning it with a hiss. “YOU SHALL LET ME PASS THIS INSTANCE!”
The snake’s giant body lifted off the ground, pebbles and rocks falling to the ground, its tongue slithering out at the rude awakening. Uncoiling its body it struck the Oni, venom stepped heavily along its breath.
Garmadon dodged before slamming his fist into the back of the snake; a puff of purple flames shot echoed around them. The snake slithered away quickly burrowing into one of its holes.
“Foul beast, come back and fight!” he roared into one of the holes.
He waited for the snake to come back, he desperately needed a fight, his frustration was boiling over at this point. Once it was clear the snake would not return he left, continuing to scan the horizon.
“I do not understand, the Monastery should be here.” he pulled out his map, sure it was ancient but even so it should still work.
He had climbed up every pillar of rock, and every mountain, and looked towards the sky for hours, yet it still evaded him. Almost as if it had disappeared into thin air.
“Lloyd, where are you,” he whispered.
He ripped up the map letting the torn up bits float in the breeze.
“Garmadon.” A voice flew through the air like a serene melody.
“Who said that,” he ignited his fists once more scanning the surrounding area.
Two orbs surrounded him, swirling around him in a tantalizing pattern. A large orb swirling gold and black floated around him swirling sadly, almost as if it was analyzing him. Meanwhile, a smaller Golden orb floated almost directly in front of his face, remaining within sight at all times.
“You must find them,” whispered the golden orb.
“What do you think I am doing Orb, playing in the sand?” he growled before catching himself. “Wait, there’s something familiar about you.”
He touched the orb and a flash of flowing beards echoed through his mind.
“You must find them, Garmadon,” it whispered before flying in the opposite direction of where he was heading.
“And what of you-” He began looking for the second orb, but it had already disappeared. “This better not be the norm, Wu!”
He took off his helmet fiddling with the two horns, a deep sadness overcoming him for some reason. Perhaps he had always expected himself to go first. A tear ran off his face, he was surprised cupping the liquid in his hand, it was a delicate reminder of everything Lloyd and Wu thought he could be.
He ignited his hand evaporating the liquid, he would push these feelings down for now there was much work he needed to do, Lloyd needed him and he would march back to the underworld if he failed him again.
Continuing forward he followed the path of the orb, still looking all around in the hope of finding the Monastery. When he finally caught up with the orb the sun had set and the scenery had turned into a hellish swampland. Green gasses floated upwards and roots shriveled and decayed almost a sickly green.
“Why are we here brother?” he grumbled, igniting his hand to see better, the area bathed in a purple light. “This is the tomb of Venomari?”
The orb disappeared leaving him alone.
“Curse you and your enigmatic ways,” he scowled hissing. “Look at me, I'm Wu I can't just give a straightforward answer, you must earn it.” he mocked walking down the rocky corridor.
His oil-like flame illuminated the way until he reached the furthest point of the burrow, it was well-lit, letting his flame dwindle he analyzed the current area. He looked at the walls, and various maps, however, one big one sat in plain view. A red marker marked an area he was all too familiar with, along with several other markings that he couldn't tell what we're saying.
“Hn,” he scratched his chin. “The Forbidden Five.”
He blocked the incoming hammer with his hand, the slight ache of pain ringing up his arm, he could feel his blood finally running again, finally a battle. Turning his head he came face to face with a black tiger humanoid, the being let out a fierce growl forcing his hammer out of Garmadon’s grip. Garmadon watched the assailant; his body was covered by a tunic, on his actual skin were pink markings. Garmadon scrunched his face, this being smelt strange his oni instincts were trying to tell him something.
“Tell me what you want with the Forbidden Five and I may- no that isn't right, I will let you live.” He smiled triumphantly dodging every attack skillfully.
“Like I would tell the son of our enemy!” he growled, swinging his hammer sending shockwaves with each hit.
“I am warning you, I am not as kind as my son,” he grabbed the handles of the hammer using his spinjitzu and slammed the tiger into the wall. “I will not ask again what you want with the Forbidden Five!”
“I'll never tell you!”
A flash of orange light filled the room and the beast was gone.
“Hrmph! Why does no one want to fight anymore!” He growled.
Returning his focus to the maps, he rubbed his hand along the markings, since the assailant did not help, perhaps he could find someone who did.
Notes:
I hope everyone enjoyed this chapter I always wondered what would happen if Ras fought Garmadon and wanted to show off going forward that they will have a rivelry.

Chapter 4: Trip to the Crossroads
Summary:
Lloyd upon realizing he knew little of the merged world sets out to see it first hand in a short trip with his new kids.

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Lloyd replayed the previous day in his mind. He was ecstatic that they wanted to stay with him, but something nagged at him in the back of his brain. Why were they so ready? Arin only knew him from stories but Sora showed no idea who he was, how bad were things getting down there while he was wallowing on the mountain? He needed to see for himself.
“Arin, Sora you ready?”
He had already gathered what supplies they would need in his travel backpack.
“Coming!” Arin yelled out.
He had the brightest smile across his face as he carried the smaller backpack.
“Why aren't we taking the bounty?” Sora stepped out from behind Arin with a similar backpack.
“We need to conserve fuel, and I don’t want people to recognize me quite yet,” he smiled, leaning down and tightening the straps on their backpacks. “If these get too heavy let me know okay?”
As they walked out Lloyd locked the monastery door. Grabbing Arin and Sora he sat them on his shoulders. As they bobbed down the stairs his mind fell back to when he was a kid and how Cole would do the same thing. A mix of sadness and fondness filled his heart as he replayed the memories in his head.
Was he this light too? Even with all their supplies this was nothing they felt like carrying a bunch of grapes if he was being honest.
“So what are the Crossroads like, what races did you see there?” He turned his attention back on the kids, laughing to himself as he saw how awestruck they were at the morning view.
“I've seen more Serpentine than usual, there’s these weird lava things and rocks with blue eyes.” Arin began to count on his fingers.
“I’ve seen these mechanical beings walking around, they never let me get close to them though,” she grumbled quietly.
“Hmm Arin, I think what you saw were Lava Tides and Craglings,” he thought about which mechanical beings would be widespread in Ninjago. “Sora, I think you saw Nindroids.”
“Things have gotten weird haven't they.” They finally reached the bottom and he sat the kids down. He stood in awe as the land had changed to lush scenery, though there was a path.
“Was this path here when you came up?”
“Yes?” Arin seemed surprised by the question.
Lloyd eyed the area suspiciously, nodding along and pushing the kids along to get out of the area quicker, it felt like something was watching him. He listened to the kids talk even chiming in with a story of his own here and there to distract himself.
“You know I rode a few dragons,” he smiled.
Sora seemed encapsulated with a shine in her eyes. “Really what was it like?”
Arin piped in too. “How many!”
“Ehhh I can't remember how many,” he shrugged. “Nonetheless it is exhilarating, maybe one day I can show you too.”
The kids began to smile and nod talking about how amazing dragons were. Perhaps later he could experiment summoning his energy dragon.
“Though I think Oni looks pretty cool too, they're so strong!” Arin smiled. “Especially Mystake I want to be like her!”
Just as Lloyd was about to talk to him about it, the topic changed almost as quickly as it started and they began to shift between hundreds of topics. He looked into Arin's eyes there was a sharpness he had not noted before, the subtlest undertone of something he couldn't quite put his finger on.
“Oh we're here,” Arin pointed.
The area was… not as distinguished as he thought it would be, it was lackluster. One-story buildings, and some food stalls. He did see signs of it being a melting pot, many species were walking the streets.
“Alright let’s get some supplies.” He put a straw hat on to hide his face.
He followed closely behind the kids asking them what food they liked, writing it down, what kind of clothing they liked, and writing that down. Arin seemed to enjoy the usual kind of clothing, while Sora didn't seem to know anything about clothing. As they walked he explained what was relevant, eventually just buying various types for her to try.
“Arin, Sora is that you?” a frog man was staring at them and glaring at Lloyd.
“Mr. Frohicky!” they piped up running over to them.
He held back letting them talk amongst each other until he patted their heads and sent them back. They seemed happier after seeing him, allowing Lloyd’s tension to ease.
“Who was that?” he pried a little, a tang of jealousy.
“That’s Mr. Frohicky!” Arin smiled.
“He organizes the shops around here along with the events,” Sora examined the various clothing Lloyd had bought.
She was awestruck that there were so many options she could choose from. Smiling, they sat on a bench and he allowed them to examine the clothes they had bought. Sora pulled out a white coverall, stars in her eyes.
“What’s this?’ she asked.
“Oh that’s a coverall, they are usually used by mechanics, and since you like technology, I figured it would be perfect for you,” he smiled, holding it up to her so she can imagine wearing it.
He let the kids continue rummaging through their supplies.
“Let’s see here,” he mumbled, pulling out his list. “I think that’s everything, do you two want anything in particular?”
Their tiny heads shook, barely paying any attention to him, his senses went haywire and he looked around. It didn't look like anyone was staring at them. Pushing the feeling down he returned to the task at hand.
“Alright we got a lot of ground to make, come on,” he nodded for the kids to follow.
As they walked his mind dwelled on his siblings and friends. How he missed Kai and Nya constantly talking to him, Zane’s love and how they would cook together, How Cole and Jay would help him destress and live life a little fuller. It brought aches to his heart.
“Lloyd, are you okay?” Arin’s face was saddened almost as if he knew what Lloyd was thinking.
“Yeah just in my head,” he gave a brief smile before faltering. “I’m thinking about my family, all the good memories we have, and what I would do if I saw them again.”
Arin nodded, kicking a rock along, “I think about my mom and dad a lot too, I miss them so much,” tears pricked the boy's eyes before he shook them away. “But I'm going to get bigger and stronger, then it won't matter where they are I’ll find them.”
“What about you Sora?” he cringed, forgetting the last time he brought up her parents.
She shook her tiny head avoiding eye contact, “They're gone.”
“I’m sorry.”
A twig snapped behind him and he spun around, startling the children. “Behind me,” he whispered. “Show yourself I know you are following us!”
He spoke up, pulling his sword from its sheath, if things got dicey he would use his powers but for right now they were on the down low. He held his hand out ensuring that the kids stood behind him at all times.
A branch snapped to his left and as he darted to meet who was ambushing him he saw a blur of white and red pounce on him knocking him to the ground. He heard the kids scream anger flashing his eyes briefly before the beast changed forms.
“Gotten rusty I see.” Akita laughed on top of him, flashing her fangs showing. Helping him up she eyed the kids almost surprised, a look flashed across her face before she fixed it.
“Akita!” He hugged her. “I can’t believe it’s you!”
“Who’s this?” Sora was hiding behind Arin who also looked confused.
“Arin, Sora this is an old friend,” he motioned that it was safe. “She helped me out a lot when we were in the Never-Realm. They showed up at the Monastery a few days ago and I took them in.”
Akita nodded, a brighter look flashing across her face. Lloyd felt overjoyed that he finally saw someone he recognized. He hurried their trek trying to get to the Monastery as soon as possible.
“Sorry I forgot to ask, do you want to come with us to the Monastery?” Hope burned bright inside him and he hoped she would say yes.
“Of course, you rambled so much about it I can’t help but be intrigued.”
The kids stared at the two watching Lloyd fumble over himself, as they continued on their way to the monastery. Once inside the monastery, Lloyd sent them off to play while he continued talking to Akita.
“I still can’t believe you’re here,” he poured some tea. “Is Kataru nearby?”
“No, he and the other Formlings are exploring the merged realms, in search of a new home.” she fiddled with the tea.
“A new home? Did something happen?” he prepared himself for horrible news.
“A lifetime of ice and snow in a new world is rather boring,” she laughed. “We wish to explore this new world.”
“I’m… glad you came to explore this area.” he smiled, relenting on the cup.
“Lloyd, are you okay?” her whimsical nature dropped for a few seconds. “You’re skinnier than the last time I saw you, and your eyes look saddened, are the other ninja not here to help?”
“We got separated in the merge, the others are who knows where, and… it was hard on me, but when Arin and Sora showed up, it sparked something in me, and I started to take care of myself again,” he spoke softly so the kids couldn't hear.
She reached out placing a hand on his, “Good, then you won't mind me staying for a little bit and making sure you do.”
“Of course not, I would love to have you here.” he had to physically restrain himself from jumping up in excitement. “Welcome to the monastery.”

Chapter 5: Ghost in the Archives
Summary:
Morro enters the archives finding a awful situation
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Morro walked openly in the halls, not that he was letting the monks see him. But still, he loved watching them fumble their hands as they felt him approach, goosebumps traveling across their skin. It was so satisfying to watch the stuck-up monks get a little of what they deserve.
Now where was he, that’s right, he walked up the staircase pulling out files and sorting through them. Wrong one, nope, with each passing file he could feel his mood souring.
“Morro.” a young girl whispered below him.
His head swiveled looking down at the girl, her small face staring at him with awe. Smiling he walked back down the staircase settling into a squat. “Don’t you know it’s bad luck to say my name?” His ghostly green mist floated off his body.
With a lift of his finger, the child was lifted so she floated next to him. Her face was shining with glee. Morro grimaced, this kid was weird, how was he supposed to scare her off if she seemed so invested in him?
“I can’t believe it’s you,” she whispered. “I read all about you!” her voice still whispered, reaching out trying to touch him. “I can’t believe my writing worked.”
“Oh really all amazing things, right?” he sighed, maybe she could at least be helpful, she seemed to want him here. “Say kid, do you know where in the archive I can find the ninja?”
The girl began to open her mouth before a voice yelled out.
“Euphrasia!” yelled a voice, it sounded like a few bookcases down. “You are supposed to be in bed young lady!”
Morro sat the kid down, watching as a rather… large man with a beet-red face came running down the halls. Raising his eyebrow he watched the situation. He rested his head on his hand watching the situation unfold.
“How many times have I told you not to enter the archives so late!” a slap echoed across the air as the large monk hit her.
Morro saw red for a second, his hand instinctively beginning to tighten, only stopping when he saw the pleading look of Euphrasia.
“Yes Master Writer, I’m sorry.”
Euphrasia was pulled away, her head down as the large man dragged her away. Morro followed them, tracking behind catching glimpses of a tear-stained face. He walked through the walls and into Euphrasia’s room, the girl sobbing, curling onto the bed.
“Hey,” he whispered, sitting on the edge of the bed. “I- are you okay?”
The sobbing grew quieter as she sat up. Morro was horrible at this, anyone would have been better, Lloyd would have been better. But he was the only one able to right now and he knew it.
“Hey it’s going to be okay,” he patted Euphrasia’s head and pulled her into a soft hug. “Does this happen often?”
He tried being delicate, trying hard to make his voice soft but anger was still steep on his tongue, hell it was practically the only language he could speak. Morro could feel her nod and anger bubbled its way back into his ghostly heart..
“Don’t worry I won’t let this happen again,” he whispered. “You’re going to want to cover your ears for a while.”
Who was he kidding? He wasn't a good man, he was the furthest thing from it, he couldn't be as soft or caring as Lloyd and Wu, there was no way he could be like that. But it’s a good thing he wasn't or else he wouldn't be able to do what Euphrasia needed right now.
Slamming open the door of the Master Writer, his wind throwing off the writer's blanket and slamming him against the wall. He showed himself to the quivering man, a devilish smile covering his face.
“So you think, it’s good to beat on kids?” he sauntered forward, gripping the man’s paling face and tilting it side to side.
“Wai-” the writer tried to speak before Morro slowly sucked the air out of his lungs.
Many came to see what the noise was intending to rescue the master writer, that was until they saw Morro holding the Master Writer effortlessly.
“Looks like we got an audience, perfect.”
With a flick of his wrist, the master writer slammed against another wall. Swiping his hand he sent the master writer into the hall floors, the onlookers cowering as he grew closer.
The Master Writer desperately crawled away, his face turning purple, Morro’s wind slowly drawing him back in.
“Ah, I know exactly what to do now,” his laughter filled the hall as he threw the master writer out of the window, his screams filling the air, before the oh-so-peaceful silence. With his desire fully sated he disappeared, walking past the many writers as they ran to the window.
Making his way to Euphrasia’s room, he pulled the covers on top of her, she had passed out from crying so much. How many times did she endure this? What has this accursed realm come to?
A golden light appeared in the room analyzing him. It bobbed, circling him worriedly.
“I know I went too far okay, just… can your lecture wait till later,” he whispered.
The orb bobbed before disappearing.
Morro returned to sitting on the edge of the bed fiddling with his hand. He messed up, he honestly had gotten carried away and slipped back into his old self, he didn’t want that for himself anymore. Perhaps it was time to let someone else take the mantle, a clean slate.
He returned his focus to Euphrasia. She was breathing softer now, almost like she knew she was safe. He placed a hand on her head, his thoughts swirling like a storm.
The golden light appeared once more settling onto the bed next to Morro. It was somewhat comforting to Morro. He placed a hand on the orb flashes of the sprawled-out body of the head writer and monks surrounding him. There wasn't anger like he thought it was going to be, but a deep sadness.
Morro pulled his hand away, fidgeting with his hand as he pulled his thoughts together, “I’ll do better Master Wu.” He promised, returning his attention to Euphrasia. “But she can’t stay here, it wouldn't be right.”

Chapter 6: Two Flames Together
Summary:
Kai and Wylfyre talk, and things get slightly better. Wyldfyre realizes that she is in safe hands.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Kai marched through the lava lands, Wyldfyre clinging tightly to his chest. She had passed out a few hours ago, the tears on her face finally having dried. It had been nearly a week since Heatwave’s death and while things were still raw, they were improving.
Wyldfyre was finally speaking, and she was speaking in Ninjargon, no less. Kai made sure to speak in dragon tongues here and there. She was also finally eating, though it was in small amounts, but it was better than nothing.
Kai looked up at the horizon grimacing; it was starting to dip. Pushing some sticks into formation, he made a small camp. Igniting his fist, he shot a small blast that lit up the twigs, accidentally jostling Wyldfyre awake.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered down to her. “Would you like to stretch for a few minutes and eat?” despite offering the worry in his heart was getting in the way.
She nods weakly, settling down gently next to him. He sat down on the large log he pulled to the camp. Rustling through his makeshift backpack he pulled out some fruit.
A small gray and black photo dropped to the ground, delicately he picked it up, sadness and happines s washing over him.
“What’s that?” her voice was weak, hurting Kai’s heart more.
He handed the photo over to her. “This is an old friend of mine; his name is Flame.”
“He’s a dragon,” she whispered. “Where is he now?”
“He’s gone,” a slight warble entered his voice.
“Just like Heatwave,” tears pricked her eyes.
“Yes,” he patted the log motioning for her to sit down, wrapping his arm around her he began to speak. “I know this is hard Wyldfyre, but just because they aren't here doesn't mean they are fully gone.”
“They aren't?”
He shook his head. “We still have our memories of them, all the good times together, all the bad times, and so long as we remember them, they are always with us.” He whispered. “Would you like to hear some stories about Flame?”
She nodded softly again.
“Back when I had just found Flame, we were inseparable,” he smiled and looked at the sky. “We roamed the skies freely, we rode from one end of Ninjago to the other, we would play hunter and prey where we would try and tag each other, I even managed to get him a couple of times.”
Kai ignited his fist and touched the dying embers and ignited them upon the fresh stick. She tried to mimic what Kai did, but her flame was smaller and put more of a strain on her. Noting it he brought his fist to hers adding his fire to her. She had never felt so much strength even from Heatwave.
Tears pricked both their eyes, Wyldfyre stared up at Kai realizing how similar they truly were, she played with Heatwave the exact same way. A realization came to her as she told stories about Heatwave, this dragon that happened to stumble across her was strong, and with him, she would get stronger, she would never be weak again and fail her family.
“There we go.” He whispered wrapping her in a red blanket as soon as he felt her fall back asleep. A small puff of flame escapes his nose as he warms up his body, trying to mimic how a dragon warms their young.
It seemed to work as Wyldfyre slept much easier but still clung to him, taking in the heat. His own sleep was coming much easier too thanks to her, though it didn't stop the voice fully, it was much more tranquil than he had ever been.
Kai rustled awake, the sun shining directly into his eyes.
“Good morning,” Wyldfyre whispers.
Kai blinked in surprise this was the first time she had spoken in the morning.
He whispered it back to her, sitting up he cleaned up the camp and picked her up, marching forward again. He didn't feel right questioning her yet, but there was one thing he wanted to say to her.
“I promise to take care of you Wyldfyre,” he rubbed her head. “You are part of my family, and when you meet the rest of my family, they'll protect you too, you'll never be alone, we will be with you.”
A teary smile covered Wyldfyre’s hidden face.

Chapter 7: Dreams
Summary:
Lloyd has a nightmare and seeks out Akita helping him be able to sleep
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Lloyd tossed and turned under the sheets. Sweat coated his body. Voices and visions swirled in his head, voices of his family.
“You let us down Lloyd, you’re not even looking for us!” Kai screamed in his face. “After everything we have done for you? Really?”
The other ninja looked equally displeased. Their bodies turned away from him walking away into the mist. Then Master Wu and Garmadon showed up, anger spread across their faces.
“Some leader you are.”
Lloyd jumped up his breath leaving his body as he looked around the room, a green light glowing across the room from his element. It was just a dream, the same dream he’s been having for a while now. Rubbing his face he threw on his Gi before walking out of his room. He hesitantly knocked on the door. There was some light shuffling before the door opened, Akita rubbed her eyes.
“Everything okay?” she whispered knowing the kids were sleeping.
Upon seeing his restless state she dragged him inside and closed the door. She didn’t know exactly what to do, so she did the only thing that would most likely work. She hugged him tightly, not letting him leave until he got whatever was in his system out of him. Lloyd melted into her touch not realizing how much he needed it. The facade he was carrying barreled down as he spent more and more time with Akita.
Arin and Sora ran to Lloyd’s room slamming open the door, only to find him not there, his bed empty. But if he wasn't there, where was he? They ran all over the monastery, outside to the bounty, to the courtyard, and even to the old dragon stables, they were getting ready to give up, that is until they got to the room Lloyd’s guest was staying in.
“Her name was Akita right?” Arin whispered. “You don’t think she did something nefarious right?”
“It wouldn't hurt to check,” she whispered back, eyeing the door suspiciously. “From what you’ve told me Lloyd has a lot of enemies.”
The two kids nodded propping the door open slightly, looking in they saw Lloyd sleeping peacefully, Akita intertwined around him, almost protectively with how she was holding him. Slowly closing the door they tiptoed their way back to Arin’s room exchanging looks of confusion.
“Agreed to never speak of this?” They both nodded walking out to the courtyard like nothing had happened.
Sora stepped forward looking at the surrounding area, “You know this place could use some more tech,” there was a tunk under her and the sound of gears turning. “What was tha-”
She was flung into the air, her screams filled the area.
Lloyd jumped up, running into the hall and slamming through the window using his spinjitzu he caught her and landing, looking her around he saw the training course activated.
“Whoops sorry about that, forgot to shut it down.” he sat Sora down and pressing the stone again the training course slowly deactivating.
Akita slumped against the archway, her face flustered and worried slowly easing off her face before sighing.
“Woah,” there were stars in Arin’s eyes. “Do it again!”
Lloyd pondered for a few seconds, noting the interest in Akitas eyes, before agreeing. “Okay fine just once okay.” He tapped the rock again before immediately using Spinjitzu, he jumped, dashed, and cleared the course in a matter of seconds.
“Would you like to try Akita,” he motioned. “Or are you a chicken.”
That seemed to catch her and Akita immediately jumped into action turning into a wolf she was slower not used to the course. Lloyd was awestruck alongside the kids, his head keeping track of her, his heart seeming to skip a beat everytime they made eye contact. When she finally landed in front of him a smile was on his face as well.
Shaking himself, he looked at the kids, “Do you two want to try as well?”
Arin nodded and Lloyd dropped the difficulty down to one, and while Sora was still shaken from the earlier jostling, the lower speed seemed to help calm her and she tried as well. Together the two watched the kids and Lloyd felt happiness blooming in his heart.

This took longer than I expected, totally wasn't because I worked on everything but this....
I wanted to go slower with this chapter and have it be a little shorter. But as always if you have any criticism or want to talk I am all ears
Chapter 8: Raging Current
Summary:
Nya stuck in a craigling village breakdowns
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Nya sat on the stoney stairs watching the sky twist and turn, an effect of the residual realm energy that continued to plague the realm of madness. The sound of sharpening her trident to a fine point filled the air. It was strange, usually the dragons had shown up by now but everything had been so quiet it was starting to worry her.
“I'll be back.” she nodded to the Cragling standing guard with her.
Propping herself up with her trident, she slowly made her way around the cradling village, inspecting to see if all the defenses were up to date. After satiating her curiosity and boredom, she turned around and soon found her way back to the front gate, leaning on her trident as she watched the warped sun dip into the horizon.
“Well, Arccrack you ready?” She turned her head to look at the Cragling stretching. “It’s almost time for practice.”
She still couldn't believe he was an elemental master and a master of an element she had never heard of before. The cradling nodded, and she assumed her position, pointing her trident at the Stoney being.
Opening her flask she pulled some water out, coating her staff. A red energy surrounded the Cragling as he dashed forward, Nya easily sidestepped tapping the cradling on the back with the end of her trident.
“Good, you're getting better at dashing.” She positioned herself again. “Now let’s see if you can stop this time and change direction.”
She really was making this up as she went along, she had no idea how this power worked and truth be told, she was just trying to waste some time before she went back to that blank hut of hers.
She dodged and dodged, and did some more dodging, but each time he was getting better at stopping so there was that. The way Master Wu spoke of the realm of madness she would never have guessed the FSM had popped into the realm.
“Okay I think that’s good for tonight.” she patted the Craglings back. “See you tomorrow Arccrack.”
She watched the starry night sky twist and swirl as she made her way to her hut, her arms stretched behind her head as she dropped her smile. Opening the door she leaned the trident against a bookshelf.
The bed creaked as she slammed herself onto it, she covered her face rubbing it.
She was beyond tired of this, the craglings were sweet in their own way but she could only sit on this same blank bed and eat the same dull mud so many times. Her gaze lingered on the ornate golden dragon at the base of her trident, how her friends and family have the same piece at the end of their weapons. Tears streamed down her face as she turned over shuddering in the darkness.
Notes:
Was stuck on how to properly show off how depressing this situation is for Nya. At first, I thought about doing self-harm, but I just couldnt write it in a way that felt appropriate, so I settled on her crying in the darkness.
As always if you have any criticism or just want to talk I am all ears.
Chapter 9: Thundering Anger
Summary:
Agent Walker is fed up with the responsibility of being an agent, but ends up finding a different level of responsibility in the process
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Agent Walker sat in his office, the paperwork gradually growing by the second, every time he filled out one stupid form another took its place. He just wanted to live his life playing video games, inventing to his heart's content, instead, he got stuck with this shitty hand. He threw the papers into the floor, his nostrils flaring. A shudder was behind him and another piece of crisp paper plopped down, taunting him.
Everything in his body told him this wasn't him, but who was he? Who was he in the past before being an agent for the Administration?
“Agent Walker, return to your post, immediately.” a cold synthesized voice echoed behind him. “Countdown will begin in five secooonndsss.”
Electricity rippled through the screen, the glare from its light shining across Jay’s face as he looked away from the screen.
“No, Agent Walker will not return to his post.” He whispered, shorting out the system in his office and walking away.
With the cost clear he configured the panel to activate the return system, he scrolled through the options, and one called out to him the Dark Island. It was massive and seemed to connect to a number of different places. Just as he passed through the portal alarms blared, and once he was on the other side the portal quickly dissipated.
He breathed in the fresh air on the beach, freedom was at hand finally. He stretched his aching back, enjoying the feeling of the sun shining across his body.
There was a sneeze behind him, and he spun around, a small girl with red hair. She was glaring at him, hiding behind a rock, with what appeared to be a glowing blaster.
“You’re not imperian,” she whispered, her finger hovering over the trigger.
“No I'm not,” he raised his hands, as he analyzed the young girl's face. “But you are?”
She nodded, never releasing the hold on the weapon.
“Why don’t you lower the weapon thingy, and we can talk this out?” All he needed was a moment of weakness and he’ll blast it out of her hands. “Where are your parents? Are they out here as well?”
Tears began to flow down the young girl's face, and a pang of guilt hit the agent hard.
“No they’re not, all they care about is looking for that stupid girl!” sobs began to form in her words.
“I’m sure they’re looking for you,” he tried to speak softly, awkwardness flowing through him. “Why don’t you tell me what’s going on and I might be able to help, okay?”
The girl sobbed and told Agent Walker about how the soldiers of Imperium were searching for some girl named Ana who ran away, and her parents were in the military, and how they never had time for her, so she wanted them to search for her rather than her rival. Walker approached the girl and was finally close enough to pat her head while taking the gun from her.
But now he faced a new problem, he couldn't exactly abandon her, but he couldn't stay in one area, the other agents would be able to quickly track him down.
“Tell you what kid,” He picked her up and set her on his shoulders. “While we wait for your parents to track you down and come to their senses, will you travel with me?”
“Hmph, fine.” she sniffled.
Walker nodded and started walking along the shoreline, a new responsibility that was even heavier on his shoulders now.

Thank you so much for reading and if you have any questions or constructive criticism I am more than happy to hear it.
Chapter 10: Frostbite
Summary:
Two figures find themselves before Doctor LaRow and she wants answers.
Notes:
Slight warning there is death in this chapter, but I don't dwell on it too much.
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
Doctor LaRow looked at the two black figures forcibly kneeling before her. The bulkier one glared at her while the slimmer one stared into space as if waiting for something to happen.
“This is your last chance to tell me who sent you and who you are, or else I will have you dismantled and turned into scrap metal,” she said, picking up a hand saw and turning it on. “Time is ticking.”
The slimmer one finally seemed to take this seriously, turning its eyes toward the doctor and the spinning blade. However, the bulkier one just chuckled, lifting his head and exposing his throat.
“You better make it count then Doctor, you won't have a second chance.”
She hated the bulkier one's voice; it was grating and full of malice. She pressed the saw into the machine's neck only to receive an electrical shock. She yelped in pain, dropped the saw, and stepped back. The thinner one jumped forward rolling onto his back using the saw to cut open the chains around his hand.
“Guards!” she yelled out.
But it was too late the slimmer one kicked her into a control panel, surely bruising her ribs with how hard it kicked. She watched as the bulkier one was freed, only one of his eyes was exposed but she could see the dark thoughts turning behind those red digital eyes.
There was a hum in the air as electricity gathered around the other eye, she ducked as a red bolt shot out and hit the control panel behind her.
The two black figures ran off leaving her hunched over in pain in her lab.
“Haha, I knew it would work!” gloated the bulkier one. “Sentry tell us where to go!”
“Down the corridor on your left, then you need to make a right, warning: increase in personnel down the halls.”
Static filled his ear after he was given the directions. A smile formed under his black mask, he had been itching for a fight for a while.
“You heard him, we have company.” He pulled out his two silver katanas as his cohort pulled out two red katanas.
The two slammed into the imperian guards, their blades making quick work of their enemies, a dance of sparks and red splatters coated the room until they finally reached the first area.
His cohort shook his blade, shaking off the red splatter that coated it.
“We’re at the location, Sentry where to now?”
“There should be a panel below you, the duct will lead to the lower levels.”
Nodding the two opened up the floor panels and dropped down. With each level, they went further and further until finally they reached a darkened area with only a blue glowing pod in the middle.
“So this is where you have been hiding,” he placed his sword back on his back and walked up to it.
He flicked his wrist up exposing two pointed pieces of metal, he circled it he finally found what he could interface to. As he worked on opening up the pod he nodded to his cohort to keep an eye on things.
“I would prefer it if you stopped calling me Sentry, Cryptor.”
Cryptor rolled his eyes before responding. “Oh, I am so sorry,” he rolled his eyes again. “And what would the princess like to be called?”
“I would prefer Brain.” the nindroid said bluntly.
Cryptor finally opened the pod and a white figure dropped onto his shoulders. A static voice filled the air as the white ninja stared at who freed him, his legs wobbly as he tried to stand and back away.
“Cryptor… Mr. E?”
“Just rest, ninja, we have a long trip ahead of us,” he said coldly as he punched Zane in the head knocking him out and putting him back on his shoulder. “Let’s go before anyone comes down here.”
Mr. E nodded and the two ran back to safety.
Notes:
I had so much difficulty trying to figure out how I am going to set this up, at first I wrote them breaking into the lab and overhearing Jordana's parents as a little easter egg, but I just could not figure what pacing worked best for that scene, and then it hit me to already have them captured.
As always thank you for reading, if you have any comments such as constructive criticism or want to say something about the story I would love to hear it.
Chapter 11: A New Day
Summary:
Lloyd makes new suits for Arin and Sora
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Lloyd hummed to himself as he walked down the hallways, the subtle sweeping of his broom filling the air as he made his way. Using the end of the handle he knocked on Arin and Sora’s room.
“It’s almost twelve you two ready to get up?”
There was a slight sound of disgruntled protesting before reluctance. The door shuttered open, and two sleepy children walked out, their messy hair flopping all over the place. He couldn't help but chuckle at it.
“Go on ahead and brush your teeth, I'll fix breakfast and help with your hair soon.”
The two kids walked like zombies towards the bathroom. Smiling, he returned to sweeping the hall. Once he was finished with sweeping he went into their room, grabbing the sheets and the laundry basket.
“Alright that’s two things done let’s see,” he pulled out his list, the rest could wait till after breakfast.
Walking into the kitchen he saw the two kids trying to get onto the high stools without much luck. Picking them up he placed them onto the seats, they still felt way too light for their age.
“Where’s Akita?” Arin plucked a red apple. “I thought she was staying for a while?”
“She is, but she needs to go back to her people to let them know what is happening, so she’ll be gone for a little while.” Lloyd tried to hide the sadness in his face. “But anyways, what do you two want to eat this morning?”
The two ended up deciding on pancakes, as he prepared them he grabbed Kai’s hairstyling kit. Placing the plates of fresh pancakes in front of them he moved behind them and began to work on their hair. Silently he braided Sora’s hair. Then he worked on Arin’s getting it into the style he liked. Smiling at his work he finally ate his pancakes.
“Oh that’s right I have a gift for you two,” he clapped his hands together and picked up a medium-sized box, setting it on the table. “I was up all night making them, they are your Gi’s.”
“Gi?” Sora whispered, pulling out the white suit.
“It’s the name for the ninja suits!” Arin yelled, grabbing his yellow one.
“He’s right, I tried to match them as best as I could,” he smiled. “Sora, since you've shown more interest in machinery yours is more of a mechanics suit, and Arin I tried to get the same color as your hoodie, so if you want you can wear both.” He picked up the box. “You don’t have to wear it, it’s just an option.”
Arin immediately ran off to the bathroom to change into it, while Sora wasn't as sure but still ended up going to the bedroom to try it on.
Smiling further at his work he dropped the box in front of their bedroom and walked out to the courtyard. The picture of a smiling Master Wu was off to his side, almost as if it was smiling at him. Walking over he sat next to the picture.
“It really has been quiet Master Wu,” he fiddled with his thumbs, looking out at the open sky. “I miss you, and the rest of the ninjas, Mom, Dad, everyone, I hope I can start to look for you all soon, I just need to prepare first.”
Lloyd thought to himself what would Master Wu say?
Almost as if carried by the wind Lloyd could hear it clear as day. “Patience, nephew, the path will be revealed when it is ready.”
Lloyd smiled to himself that would be something he would say, as he stared into the sky he wondered what his enemies were planning at this second.
Nokt tapped his finger on the table. As he suspiciously eyed his allies. What were they planning and could he overcome them? They were tricky and he knew they were gunning for him, they always do.
“Five of a kind,” he smiled, placing down four aces and a joker card.
“Hah! I have High cards!” Rox placed a king, queen, a seven, four, and a three.
“Not so fast!” Zarkt placed a card down. “I Digivolve Black WarGreymon to Omnimon Zwart!”
“Go fish!” Drix placed their cards down.
“I play Black Kyurem EX with lightning energy and two normal energies.” Kur rasped, placing the cards down.
Nokt leaned back rubbing his head as Rox flipped the table. A heavy sigh left him as he tried to control his migraine, while Rox, Zarkt, Drix, and Kur began to fight amongst themselves over who won.
Lloyd smiled to himself, whatever they were planning he was ready.
Arin and Sora popped up next to him wearing their new Gi’s.
“Do you two like them?” He turned his head to properly look at them. The arms and legs flapped as they walked around in them.
Arin’s eyes were dazzling as he practically vibrated with excitement. “Of course!”
“A little too flappy in the arms and legs, and it lets in the cold air.” Sora criticized her eyes squinting at her limbs.
“That’s because there’s more to be done,” he smiled, motioning for them to sit as he stood. “You see, the mountain up here is cold, so you need to wrap your arms and legs.”
He motioned to his arms and legs. He began with Arin, pulling a pale green he wrapped his legs and arms. “There we go, you’ll get the hang of it in no time.”
He handed Arin a piece of paper giving more detailed instructions for when Arin wanted to practice on his own.
Sora’s was a little bit more baggy, but he could tell she was enjoying the look more due to its uniqueness, as he wrapped around her arms and legs, in the end, he used a navy blue for her wrap. “There, now I know you’re not as much of a ninja fan and I don't want you to feel pressured, but because you’re under my care, I wanted you to have this option.”
It dawned on Lloyd he practically knew nothing about her, other than her name. He would have to try harder to get her to open up.
“Thank you,” she whispered a look of happiness coating her face.
“Now, I'm going to start my training for the day,” he stood up stretching. “Would you two like to join me?”
He remembered the other day, how they had done a few exercises, but nothing he would call true training. Arin was excited and Sora was showing a glimmer of it too. With both on board he started with the basics, they had a long road ahead of them if they wanted to be ninjas but he felt excited to teach them.

Chapter 12: Ghostly Advice
Summary:
Morro and Garmadon receive advice from some ghosts
Chapter Text
Morro watched the sun set, it had been a few days since he killed the last master writer and thankfully they hadn't managed to point it to Euphrasia. But now the word was spreading that he was in the kingdom, which made his search for the ninja even harder.
Which led him to where he is now, watching Euphrasia interact with the other monks and doing her daily duties. He had been hoping that one of the monks would be talking about the ninja but they were pretty tight lipped.
Morro broke off from Euphrasia to look into the library he combed through the catalog of books but it was as if the ninja had been completely stricken from their records.
“Whatcha looking at?” Euphrasia popped her head up next to him.
“Still looking for the ninja,” he handed her a book. “Have you finished your tasks for the day?”
Lifting his hand he floated her up so that she was eye level.
“Of course,” she grinned, floating alongside the book shelf. “Even managed to finish a few extra chores today as well.” she moved her arms as if she was swimming through the air.
Morro watched her carefully; he still wanted to get her out of here, but he had a task to do first.
“Okay, enough playing it’s almost time for bed,” he dropped her carefully to the ground and shooed her to the showers. Finally alone with his thoughts again, he moved through the bookshelves searching for anything related to the ninja.
A golden light appeared behind him.
“I’m sorry Master, I’ve checked this library twice and still havent seen anything.” he placed the book back. “Have you had any luck on your end?”
The light shook before disappearing.
Morro continued going through the books but he couldn't help but imagine the man's face as he fell out the window, the pure fear etching across it. For some reason it was upsetting his stomach everytime he imagined it. Maybe he could have reasoned with the man, just scared him enough to stop, a hundred different decisions could have been made. He shook his head; this wasn't the time for that he needed to focus.
Elsewhere in the World Forest, Garmadon grumbled as he climbed up on one of the trees. “Of all the idiotic things I do for this family, this has to be by far the dumbest!”
The golden light traveled upwards beside Garmadon, keeping pace with him.
As they reach a branch the light flashed upwards to it signaling Garmadon to rest on it. With reluctance he sat on the branch staring out into the columns of the trees.
“Wings?” the golden orb whispered.
“Oh yes, Wu why didn't I try that,” he mocked. “Oh wait, yes I did!” he grumbled. “Why are we even up here? I thought I was trying to find Lloyd!”
The golden orb faded into golden mist leaving Garmadon alone once again.
“Hrmph,” Garmadon bit his tongue he would yell at his brother as soon as he reappeared.
“The path you seek will not always be clear.”
A voice echoed through Garmadon’s head, it was a gathering of whispers, some harsh and bitter, but some also serene and calm.
“Who is there!” he growled, igniting his fists. “Show yourself!”
“I have always been here, Garmadon, watching the many paths you have taken.” The voice continued shushing Garmadon. “I must give you a heavy burden, Garmadon, one only you can complete now.”
Garmadon felt a pull upwards and as he looked up he saw an opening in the tree. Climbing once more he reluctantly followed the pull, his once sharp tongue for some reason no longer working.
Staring at the red arches he raised an eyebrow, “A temple this far up?” Continuing forward he stepped into the temple.
“Welcome Garmadon, son of the First Spinjitzu Master, I have been waiting for you,” a blue and green ghost appeared before Garmadon. “We have much to discuss.”
