Things you might find helpful to know about this series before you dive in (in no particular order)
This is a canon-esque series which begins in the Marauder's era but spans into Harry's era. It is canon compliant for EVENTS through COS. It will become canon divergent during the timeline of POA. But there are MANY aspects which can be viewed as very canon divergent already. This is fair warning to people who like canon compliance. I use the Alternative Universe tag in my main fics, though there isn't a specific AU element. I merely take some creative liberties.
Heads up: this series will become quite dark.
I write single POV for each installment with a few other POV's sprinkled in as Prologue, Interlude(s), and/or Epilogue(s).
This series is meant to be entertaining, heavy in ships and also in magic. Do not go delving into my magical theory, it is based off many other things I have read and then churned up in my mind and spewed out. Its fun, flashy, and exciting. I like drama, I like character trauma, I like to push past what canon offered us magic wise. And I do develop it slowly over the series, it isn't just inexplicable feats of magic I sometimes come across in fanfics. But it isn't meant to be picked apart, merely enjoyed.
You can assume every title I have "announced" below is already fully written even if it hasn't posted yet.
The works in chronological order:
WIP TLOAR - The Life of a Rose
Evan POV, the series from Evan's POV as his story is often hinted at but not explained in detail
WIP ART - A Rat's Tail
Peter POV, the series from Peter's POV as I felt he was not given enough time in the main works
THATS - The Heir and The Spare
Sirius' POV, first year at Hogwarts ---- 107K words, 25 chapters
TPP - The Prince's Pact
Severus' POV, second year ---- 117K words, 24 chapters
TBOF - The Bonds of Friendship
James' POV, third year ---- 134K words, 27 chapters
THOTL - The Heart of the Lion
Regulus' POV, his third year/Marauders fourth year ---- 160K words, 35 chapters
TWATS - The Wolf and The Star
Remus' POV, fifth year ---- 161K words, 30 chapters
TCT - The Changing Times
Lily's POV, sixth year ---- 180K words, 37 chapters
The War Years
Part I - TBB - The Battered Boy ---- Barty's POV, his sixth/Marauders seventh year
48K words, 9 chapters
Part II - TOWBTM - The Ones Who Bore the Mark ---- Regulus' POV, his sixth/Marauders seventh year
Part III - TPOD - The Prince of Darkness ---- Severus' POV, his seventh year
MORE TO COME :)
These are the ships:
- Wolfstar - Endgame Wolfstar
- Subtextual in THATS through THOTL
- Kicks up in TWATS because it is year five and from Remus' POV
- Jegulus - Endgame Jegulus until Regulus dies, and even then...
- Begins in TBOF
- Kicks up in THOTL (but the boys are still pretty young)
- They get one POV chapter in TWATS and in TCT
- Snily - Endgame Snily until Lily dies, and even then...
- Begins in TPP (but they are quite young, year two so nothing smutty for a LONG time)
- Kicks up in THOTL, but not from either of their POV so we see it from Regulus' POV only
- Obviously it will be a major part of Lily's installment TCT
- Comes back in TPOD, Severus' POV and continues through the war years
- Rosekiller
- Subtextual begins in THOTL
- Kicks up in TCT, they get two POV chapters in that installment
- Dorlene
- Always in the background as neither of them are POV characters
- Frank/Alice
- Always in the background as neither of them are POV characters
- Minerva/Poppy
- Always in the background as neither of them are POV characters
- Albus/Gellert
- This is a bit of a plot critical ship and they get a flashback POV chapter in THATS and then another POV chapter at then end of TPP
- Lily/Mary
- Happens in the background of TBOF, they are just third years, so nothing smutty
- Lily/Emmeline
- Happens in the background during TWATS
- Bellatrix/Rodolphus & Voldemort/Bellatrix/Rodolphus
- Happens here and there in interludes and epilogues
There are other ships, but due to spoilers I'm going to keep from sharing them until the appropriate works post.
There is no romantic Jily, though Harry is conceived and James and Lily do get married. You are going to have to very much trust me that it makes tragic contextual sense in the story.
This is a very ship heavy series. I think there is a decent amount of really awesome world building but the ships are the focus of the series.
This series is canon compliant for EVENTs through October 31, 1981. If you want to leave off there, you should be able to read the original series without a hitch, though maybe a lot of annoyance (some of my characterization strays from canon depending on how you personally connect with canon). I intend to write canon timeline installments which account for the years through Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. But during the timeline of Prisoner of Azkaban the series will change to canon divergent AU.
There is a lot of magic in this series. And it manifests in a different way than in canon. Expect it to feel somewhat different, and also not that different. This begins in earnest in the second installment, The Prince's Pact. The entire concept of Dark magic was inspired by Evitative by Vichan (a fic I highly recommend if you are a Drarry shipper). Wandless magic was inspired by brief mentions in canon and a slew of random other fantasy media combined with my own imagination. The concept of Light magic was mostly my own invention (that I'm aware of). I also used the Prince of Slytherin's wiki page for inspiration for Wild magic. I *think* Evitative mentions at least some of the six types of magic I bring into this story: Light, Dark, Blood, Soul, Earth, and Wild. I greatly expanded on these concepts. The way I talk about African and Japanese magic practices are mostly my own invention, as far as I know. But there is always a source from which inspiration struck.
Canon Divergence (sometimes a whoops, sometimes intentional)
I'm following the original seven books in print as my canon guideline. And I took some creative liberties to enhance the plot and diversify the cast (see above for most of the ethnic variations).
- Bellatrix is the middle sister, Andromeda is the oldest. For some reason this is how I thought it was for my entire life, until I started writing this fic, looked at a Black family tree, and realized I was confused on their ages (Bella is the oldest, then Andy, then Narcissa technically). So I'm sorry about the switch there. I really wanted Andromeda to be out of Hogwarts when Sirius arrived and for Bella to be there, but in an upper year. Narcissa is the youngest and is also older than Sirius.
- We know so little about what happens to all the main characters parents from canon, but for some reason they are ALL MIA. I know JKR has published things about some of them. I'm generally ignoring those. So I wrote some backstory for many of the kid's parents, I don't think they are necessarily canon compliant, but I'm a bit unclear about what even is canon in this instance.
- I know I use a lot of my own invention last names for Slytherin characters. I know most (but not all) people in Slytherin are purebloods and are likely linked to the Sacred Twenty-Eight. In magical tradition, women always take their husband's last name, so I HC there is a lot more family interconnectedness but the names are lost in the marriages at times. Also, there are a LOT of students at Hogwarts, I know there are theories which can prove how EVERYONE in the series is actually related, that feels quite far into the weeds for an entertainment driven fanfic.
